bronny9: Thank you for the review. I wasn't expecting one so quickly.
sweet - as - honey: Thank you for the review. I'm glad you thought it was perfect and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm glad you enjoyed the extra details. It is a shame, I think Lily and Alicia could have been good friends.
sweet - as - honey: Thank you for the review. Both brothers were hurting.
Lauren: (Guest): Thank you for the review. I can do a chapter where Ethan suffers a TBI (traumatic brain injury) have to admit, I had to google because I was unsure what TBI stood for. And Cal has to adapt his lifestyle and the flat to help Ethan.
Ethan does not have the gene. Matilda is the boys mum.
Rated T for the nature of the storyline. Mentions cancer, please don't read if you have been affected by that.
I'm no doctor the research in this chapter has come from the net, so please don't hold it against me.
The Secret Life Of Casualty.
Chapter: 260.
Cal was writing up his patient notes as he had neglected them. He'd tried to persuade Ethan to do it but he had said no.
"Cal your needed. " Zoe informed him, finding the doctor in the staff room.
Cal stood up, closed the file he was writing in and walked out, grabbing his stethoscope off the table and heading towards the ED doors as Iain wheeled in a patient, she had blonde hair and was of slim build.
"This is Sarah Davies, 30, she's finding it hard to breath. She was recently diagnosed with Small Cell Lung Cancer. BP 60/90" Said Iain.
"This way," Cal gestured with his arm to RESUS. He held the double doors open as Iain wheeled her in.
Cal helped Sarah over to the bed and put an oxygen mask over he face. Sarah began coughing. Cal placed a kidney dish in front of her as she spat up blood. Cal ran some tests such as a sputum test.
He gowned up and was oversaw by Dylan as he did the procedure.
Cal studied the tests results that Robyn had just handed him. He groaned silently, her prognosis wasn't good. He knew that he'd have the same look on his face that Matilda's doctor did when he told her she didn't have long left. It had been Ethan who had wept, while he tried to strong strong for both his younger brother and mum, but as soon as Ethan was in bed that night, Cal had broken down in tears. He took a deep breath, bracing himself to deliver bad news. He put the results back in the envelope and walked back through the double doors.
"Sarah, I have your tests results " He told her. "I'm afraid your cancer is back,"
"Oh, god" She sobbed.
"We can treat it with chemo." Cal informed her, in his mind he was thinking about the chemo sessions that him and Ethan had attended with Matilda, before the doctor gave her the news that the drugs weren't doing anything for her, so she had stopped receiving treatment, much to the shock of her sons, who had tried desperately to get her to chance her mind, but Matilda wasn't having it, she didn't want to live with having drugs pumped in to her system. Even through the boys had tried to convince her, she was firm, so the boys had no choice but to accept her decision. He was pulled out of his thoughts when Sarah spoke.
"I can't let my son live without me. "
"What's his name?" Cal asked, interested.
"Jake. He's 10."
"Is there anyone I can call for you?" He asked.
"No. My husbands working. "
Cal nodded, smiled and left RESUS.
Monitors kept going off and beeping. Cal rushed in.
He placed his hands on her body and pumped up and down, muttering to himself. He looked at the monitor, no matter how hard he tried, she wasn't coming back.
Cal ran to the staff room, tears running down his face. Sarah Davies had reminded him of his mum.
Ethan looked at his brother and scoffed, thinking that he was putting it on as he didn't attend their mums funeral or didn't cry when she had passed. He had left him to attend on his own.
Robyn rubbed Cal's arm. "Cal it's hard. But we can't save everyone"
Cal nodded while still crying. Ethan walked over to him. "Always trying to get people on your side aren't you, Caleb?" He snapped.
Cal ran from Ethan.
Robyn gave Ethan a look as she walked over to him. "Cal's patient has just died. She had cancer"
Cancer. That was a poisonous word. Ethan felt a pang of guilt as Robyn walked away.
After his shift ended, Ethan returned to his flat, wondering if Cal was at home, but he found the lights out as he walked up the stairs. He pulled his keys out and pushed them in to the lock. He walked in and made himself some tea, checking his phone to see if Cal had called. He hadn't, but then it got yo midnight and as Ethan went off to bed, he was worried about his brother.
After a few days, Cal hadn't rung or text and Ethan went to the police, who told him as Cal was an adult, they could t do anything. Ethan was frustrated.
It had rained and rained and Ethan couldn't think of where a Cal might have gone to get some
Someone knocked at the door.
Ethan answered the door. "Cal?" He asked.
Yep," Cal replied through clattering teeth, his hands were blue and he was shaking.
"Your freezing" Ethan said as he almost pulled his brother inside, shutting the door behind him. He took him to his bedroom and ran him a warm shower.
The two boys were lying on Cal's bed, holding each other, Cal was gripping on to his bringers shirt, whispering: "Mummy. I want mummy" Ethan stroked his hair as he continued to cry.
"Shush," Ethan soothed him, kissing his forehead. When Ethan tried to move, he realises he was trapped under his brothers weight.
The next day, Ethan was up early.
"Let's go to see mum" Ethan said.
"I don't want to go," Cal shrugged.
"She's our mum. " Ethan replied, confused.
"Fine" Cal sighed, standing up and grabbing his coat as they left the flat.
Cal and Ethan stood, in silence by the grave for a few moments, both thinking about their mum, before Cal stepped forward and put the flowers down. He looked at Ethan to see if he wanted to say anything. Ethan shook hs head, so Cal found it was up to him to say something to their beloved mother.
"Mum. We miss you. "
Putting their arms around each other, they left the cemetery and decided to go and get a drink in honor of their mum.
Thank you for reading. I really enjoyed writing this one.
