bronny9: Thank you for the review. Glad you found it cute.

Lily. (Guest) Thank you for the review. I can do a chapter where Cal finds out baby Matilda is not his and Ethan comforts him. Set where Ethan doesn't have the gene.

Guest: Thank you for the review. The extra details for Cal and Alicia's car crash were good. Do you want any deaths in the chapter? Is Alicia the mum to Cal's daughter? What's the name and age of her? The reason I'm asking these extra questions is so that I have a better idea of what I'm writing, if you don't mind answering them.

R: (Guest) Thank you for the review, I'm glad you loved the chapter. I can do a chapter where Cal has the gene, instead of his brother.

Lauren: (Guest) Ethan has a stroke or TBI and everything in his life changes, and Cal has to adapt the flat in order to look after him.

Tigsey: Thank you for the review. I received this request ages ago, but I forgot about it, I'm sorry. Lily is jealous of the flirting going on between Ethan and Alicia. I'm not confident on Lily or Alicia, but I will attempt it, may just take longer than I thought.

That's just a list to keep me up to date with what I still have to write.

This chapter was prompted by Fabian with the prompt: Cal comes down with appendicitis. Will he be ok?

I'm no doctor, so it is probably incorrect.

The Secret Life Of Casualty.

Chapter 271.

Cal was at home on his day off, he was planning to watch some TV and maybe drink some beer, as it was a Friday and he nor Ethan were in work at the weekend, although Ethan was working now. Cal reached forward to grab the remote off the coffee table, he winced as a pain passed through his stomach, it seemed to pass, but he also felt flushed on his face and he felt sick. The pain come back again, and it intensified so that he had to wrap his arms around himself, he hated being seen as weak, but it was just too painful for him.

He managed to call an ambulance, just as he passed out due to the pain.

Iain and Jez attended to the call. They headed through the double doors, up the stairs to the doors of flats, but they were unsure which flat number had made the call.

"It's flat 2A" The boys elderly neighbour James, told them.

Jez nodded. "Thanks mate, " As they headed to the flat, Jez noticed that the door was on the latch, so it was easy to gain access to the flat.

"Hello? Paramedics " Iain called out, as he walked further in. Iain walked in to the living room, only to find Cal lying unconscious on the floor. He gently shook Cal's shoulder and asked him if he was ok. He called Jez in and asked for a stretcher. Jez nodded and went to the ambulance, getting the equipment he needed to transfer Cal to the hospital.

Jez held his head still as Iain slid the board under his unconscious form. Together they lifted it up and lay it on the stretcher, tightening the straps around Cal's body and then lay a blanket over him. They loaded him in to the ambulance and started the vehicle.

"This is Caleb Knight, 32, found unconcious at his flat. BP 60/90. GSC is 2."

"Cal?" Said Ethan as the trolley was took to RESUS and he was moved over to the bed.

Cal was still wriggling in pain, as Zoe examined him, he winced as she pressed around on his stomach. Cal did his best not to scream out in agony.

Ethan rushed in.

"Your appendix has most probably burst," said Zoe as she examined him. She got on the phone to surgery. So the surgeons could see what was causing him pain.

Zoe put a small needle in Cal's arm as surgeons come for him.

"You'll be ok, Cal. " Ethan kissed his his brothers forehead, before he was wheeled down to surgery.

Once the anesthetic had been administered, the surgeon made 4 small incisions in Cal's stomach and guided a small tube, which had gas in, through the incision, As well as a tube called a laparoscope and then the surgeon used instruments to take out the appendix, they then closed the incision up, with stitches.

Once the operation was complete, Cal was wheeled to recovery and was looked after by a nurse, until he woke up, but he still felt a bit groggy as he was wheeled back. When he was parked up, Ethan was sat in a chair.

"Ethan?" Cal whispered groggily, as the anaesthetic wore off.

"Yes?" Ethan whispered back.

"Hurts Ethan" Cal whimpered, as he pulled a face. Ethan grabbed a kidney dish as Cal vomited.

"I know," Ethan stood up and stroked his hair.

"How are you feeling?" Asked Zoe as she entered the room after knocking.

"He's in pain," Ethan told his friend and boss.

"I'll organise some pain relief," smiled Zoe as she left the room, her heels clacking as she walked down the corridor. She soon come back in and put on a pair of gloves as she injected the morphine in to him.

"Ethan, I'm cold" Cal shivered as he spoke.

Ethan grabbed the blanket off the edge of the bed and wrapped it around his brother. As he slowly fell asleep.

A day later, Cal was given the all clear to go home and he was under strict instructions to take it easy by both Ethan and Zoe. Ethan knew that Cal had to take it easy otherwise he risked bursting open his stitches.

Looping an arm around Cal as they left RESUS, Ethan made sure that Cal was OK after every step that he took.

He helped his brother up these stairs and in to the flat where he gently pushed his brother down on to the couch, got him a blanket, a packet of paracteomol and a bottle of water and told him to call him if he needed anything. Cal nodded and as Ethan walked in to the hallway to head to his own room, his brothers voice called him back again.

"Ethan?"

"Yes?"

"Thanks mate" Cal said as Ethan walked back over to him. He knelt down and kissed his forehead.

Ethan nodded. "That's ok, Cal" As he went to bed after locking the front door and then went back to the living room to see if Cal was ok, he was asleep, but snoring to himself. Ethan allowed himself a small smile as he went to bed.

The next morning, Ethan woke up first. He made his bed and then went to check on Cal. He was sat on the couch.

"Are you ok?" Ethan asked.

"Yep," Cal nodded as Ethan rolled up his brothers tee shirt, to have a look at his brothers wound. He knew it would leave a scar, but only he and Cal would know it was there.

Ethan rolled his top down as he winced.

"Take some pain killers," Ethan advised him.

"I will" Cal nodded as Ethan went to work.

Arriving at work, Zoe asked Cal a question.

"How's Cal?" Zoe asked, signing a patient document.

"He's fine, Dr. Hanna" Ethan smiled. "Thank you"

"Good" Zoe grinned, she looked out for her team.

Ethan went home in his lunch hour and checked on Cal and in a moment, it felt like Cal was younger and Ethan would do anything to protect him.

Just a short chapter as I think the next chapter will be quite long. Well, that up getting longer than I expected. Thanks for reading.

Next chapter: Cal and Alicia are involved in an accident, with their daughter. similar to what Adam and Jess and their kids were involved in. Prompted by guest. I might leave that update until my laptop is fixed though. Well, I got my laptop up and running so I hope that the next chapter will be up within a few days.
