Originally, I started writing this as I was bored, but then I realised I could turn it in to a prompt I was given.

This chapter was prompted by casualtycatmeow with the prompt: Hi I've been wanting to do this for a long time and basically Cal's life is in great danger and he's in a coma Ethan misses him and he tries to wake him up.

The Secret Life Of Casualty.

Chapter 291.

Cal Knight had been known for his temper and one day, Ethan knew it was going to get him in to trouble. It turned out that the younger brother was right.

Flashack

It had been a hectic shift, as the team had lost Roy Ellison and had also managed to save Lily's life, who was now in a side room, recovering, on monitors and machines, but as Connie and Charlie went outside on a break, talking about how difficult it was when a colleague was a patient, they come across a sight nobody wanted to see. Caleb Knight, had a knife sticking out of him, blood surrounding him. Charlie ran towards him, putting pressure on the wound and telling him he'd be alright, as Jez and another medic come with a stretcher. Lifting his limp body on to the stretcher, Connie ordered the team to clear RESUS, and to keep Ethan out of the way.

Transferring Cal to the RESUS bed, Connie and Charlie started hooking him up to monitors.

"He's loosing blood. " Commented Charlie.

"Lets get more in to him. " Connie snapped.

Once, Cal was stabilised, Connie knew the best course of treatment was to put him in a coma, to help him heal more comfortably.

"Ethan, can I have a word?" She asked, unusually nice as she noticed the doctor by the Nurses Station.

"Sure. " The younger doctor replied, following the woman to her office.

"Take a seat Ethan. " Connie said, Ethan sat.

"Cal's in a coma. " Connie said.

"Why?" Ethan questioned. He knew that people didn't just end up in coma's for no reason, something serious must have happened.

Connie laced her hands together as she considered her next words to the junior doctor.

"He was stabbed by Mickey Ellison. "

"Thank you, Mrs Beauchamp. " Said Ethan, quietly as he got up and left the office, making his way down the stairs, towards RESUS. Ignoring his colleagues concerned faces he tried to keep a straight face, he knew if Charlie said something, he would break and crumble.

End of flashback

Ethan walked in to RESUS, it pained him to see Cal laying so still with tubes and wires. A ventilator, an NG tube, a pulse oximeter were on different parts of Cal's body.

Ethan picked up his brothers cold hand and held it tight, hoping that Cal could hear him. "I'm here, Cal. " He whispered. A tear rolled down his cheek, followed by another. "I miss you, Cal. " He added, quietly, as he spotted Charlie lingering by the RESUS doors, a few minutes later they were opened. He put his hand on his shoulder and started, shaking him, wanting him to wake up.

"Why don't you go home, Ethan?" Charlie suggested, standing by the bed.

At once, Ethan shook his head. "Cal needs me. "

"You'll be no use to him if your not well. " Said Charlie, resting a hand on his shoulder.

"I'm fine Charlie. " Ethan told him.

Charlie left to get on with some work and to update the team on Cal's condition.

Ethan woke to a sound. For a few moments, he couldn't make out what it was. Then he realised. Cal was choking because of the ventilator. Ethan pushed the emergency button behind the bed and Connie came in. She removed the ventilator and then popped the oxygen mask over his face to help him breath a little easier.

"That's it, " Ethan soothed as Connie left both boys to it.

A few days later, Cal was well enough to be discharged and Ethan got all his favourite food, drink and DVDs in as he knew that he had to to take it easy for a while.

He settled him on to the couch and placed a blanket over him, before pulling the coffee table closer to Cal so his food and drink was easy to reach.

When the film had been watched, the eldest brother gave a yawn and Ethan come to the conclusion that he was tired. He held out his hand and watched as Cal took it as he helped pull both of them off the couch and to their bedrooms, he led Cal in to his and sat him down on the bed, before taking off his shoes and top and putting a white tee over his head as he helped him in to bed, under the covers and making sure he had everything he needed before going to his own room.

Lying on his bed, in his own room, Ethan briefly wondered what he'd do if something did happen to Cal or vice versa. A world without Cal in, for Ethan was just too horrible to think about, they had lost their mother, they couldn't lose each other as well.

Just as his eyes started drifting closed, he heard muffling coming from Cal's room.

"What's wrong?" Ethan asked.

Cal just clung to his brother while he rubbed his back comfortingly, and that's how the brothers remained, in each others arms.
