The Secret Life Of Casualty.
Chapter 317.
"Doctor Knight, Doctor Hardy, Doctor Monroe, a word please?" Asked Connie, before the three had started their shifts, Cal, Ethan and Alicia all looked at each other wondering what Connie wanted. "Now" She said as she walked away.
Wordlessly, the three started up the stairs to her office. Ethan knocked on the door.
"Come in, " Called Connie.
She hears the door handle be pushed down. "You wanted to see us, Mrs Beachaump?" Ethan asked.
"Yes" Connie was sitting down at her computer, it seemed she was looking at something.
"She could at least say something " Muttered Cal, to only to try to impress Alicia, who smirked and laughed as Cal poked her in the ribs, she laughed, it armed they had a brother and sister relationship
"I heard that Doctor Knight," Said Connie. She turned her computer screen around to face the three of them. On the screen was an email.
"Dear Connie,
I'm looking for three of your staff members to attend a conference next week, to learn about new equipment in the medical world. They'll be put up in a hotel, all expenses paid.
Yours sincerely,
Michael Peters.
"I want you three to be on your best behaviour, " She said, she was mainly looking at Cal as she spoke, as she knew that he could be the most mischievous.
The following Monday come around and Cal, Ethan and Alicia were all waiting for the minibus to arrive. Both boys had rucksacks on their backs, while Alicia was wheeling a suitcase, Cal wondered how much a girl could need for a week?
On the mini bus, that had been hired, an hour on two in to the journey, Cal felt sick, but didn't say anything to his brother, who was plugged in to his iPod
"Hr's faking" Said Alicia.
Ethan looked at Cal more closely, he didn't think he was faking anymore. He had beads of sweat on his forehead and he was pale looking, Ethan put a hand to his brothers forehead and bit his lip, Cal did seem a bit warm.
When they got there, they were allocated to their rooms. They were each on the first floor. Cal and Ethan were in the same room, each had a single bed. While Alicia was in her own room, (She was secretly disappointed, as she would much rather be sharing with Cal. ) but it was only for a week. She unpacked her stuff, while in their room, Ethan was doing the same, while Cal just sat on the bed as Ethan looked at him.
Someone knocked on the door. Ethan got up to answer it and found a man standing on the other side. He frowned. "Excuse me?"
The man handed Ethan two pieces of paper. It turned out they were their schedules for the week ahead.
On Monday, the three of them headed to the big hall where the conference was being held. Their seats had name tags on and they talked quietly to themselves as the woman in charge set up the screen in front of her.
"Welcome, everybody to the conference. Today we are going to learn about the stethoscope "
Cal, Alicia and Ethan all looked at each other, the three of them used a stethoscope every day.
Cal put his hand up. "It's used to check a patient's heartbeat"
"Very good. "
Alicia put her hand up, but to her, it felt like she was back at school and even though she was popular at school, she was glad to leave so she could study what really interested her.
"Yes?"
"It can also be used to diagnose patients conditions, "
"Such as?" The woman asked.
Alicia thought for a moment as Ethan whispered in to her ear. "Bronchitis. "
After the week was up, it was time to leave, Connie had requested that the three of them write a report on their time there and what they had learnt while there. Connie also received an email, informing her of her staff's behaviour.
After Connie had looked at their reports, she called each one of them in. She called Cal in first. "Take a seat, Cal. "
Cal sat down. And waited for Connie to begin speaking, he'd been on his best behaviour
Ethan and Cal decided against the pub, and Ethan took Cal home. Using his keys he opened the door and cal walked in as hiS brother followed him and they both sat on the couch in silence for a few minutes.
The boys decide to have a beer and chat about their favourite parts of the conference. Cal's was winning Alicia in a drinking contest, even though she'd kept up with him, she'd called time.
After they've watched a move they decide to have a takeaway as they are tired after their drive home and Ethan couldn't be bothered to cook. So Cal (who was quite fond of a takeaway and would eat them every night after work) but Ethan pointed out that too much fatty food would lead him to have a heart attack and Ethan wanted to keep his brother around for as long as he could.
The two munched in comfortable silence as Cal's phone beeped. He picked it up.
"Whose that?" Ethan asked, taking a sip of his drink.
"Alicia " Cal said, accessing his messages and chucking at what the message says before he tapped out a reply.
"What did she want?" Ethan asked, a ping of jealousy settling on his chest at the thought of loosing Cal to a woman, after Taylor, the brothers had vowed to never let a woman come near them again and it seems that Cal is breaking his vow.
Alicia rings the buzzer to the flat belonging to the brothers. Ethan stood up and walked to the phone, which allowed them to buzz people in to the flat.
Cal put his arm around his brother. "Alicia is a mate, Ethan, but she'll never come between me and you "
Ethan was relieved to hear that as he rested his head against his brothers arm, Cal brushed a hand through his brothers hair. Ethan loved it when Cal did that, it was reassuring that he had his brothers support and that Cal had his.
At work, on a late shift Cal found Alicia in the staff room on her break.
"Hey" She smiled, kissing him on the lips.
"Alicia" Cal tried to push her off him.
Her face had a hurt look on it "Oh, come on, Cal. "
"I thought you had a crush on me?" She asked.
"I did, "
Alicia walked out of the staff room, as Cal leant against the counter and sighed, Alicia hadn't meant to be anything serious and Cal would be up for a laugh with her, have a drink and share a ciggie.
