The Secret Life Of Casualty.

Chapter 403.

Ethan hadn't usually hated Christmas, but since Cal's death, the festive season had lost it's sparkle for him. It had been down to him to cook Christmas dinner while Cal put Christmas songs on.

"I miss you, Cal" Ethan whispered, while rooting through a box of decorations. He held the decoration up in his hand, it was an hand ornament that Cal had made in year 5. Ethan tied it around the small tree that was standing the corner of the room. It wasn't the same as having him physically around, but for him, it was the next best thing.

Charlie and Duffy were lying in bed, and Charlie's thoughts had turned to Ethan. Charlie knew the doctor was finding his feet after Cal's tragic death, but he knew he was still finding it hard.

"We should invite Ethan around, " Charlie said.

"OK, " Duffy agreed, since they were both off Christmas day, Duffy was cooking dinner for them.

Charlie had arrived at Ethan's flat and had just rung the doorbell.

"Coming" Ethan called, walking through the hallway and unlocking the door.

"Hey Ethan" Charlie smiled.

"Charlie" Ethan replied, wondering what the older man was doing here.

"Can I come in?" Charlie asked.

"Oh, sure" Ethan said, allowing the older man to come in from the cold.

Sat on the sofa, Charlie took off his scarf and gloves, while Ethan went to make them two drinks.

"Here we go, " Ethan placed two mugs on the coffee table.

"Thanks" Charlie picked one up and took a sip. "There's a reason I'm here" Charlie added.

"What?" Ethan asked.

"Would you like to join Duffy and I for Christmas dinner?" He asked.

Ethan didn't particularly want to spend Christmas day in an empty flat.

"OK, " He said, finally. "Thanks Charlie"

Charlie left the flat to head home to inform Duffy that they had a Christmas day guest.
