Chapter 499
A letter arrived on the Dean's doorstep, addressed to both Iain and Ruby, but Iain opened it to spare Ruby, any more pain.
It read:
"Dear Mr and Mrs Dean,
Jessica Harrison is due to stand trial for the kidnapping of your twins. You have been called as a witness."
"Iain?" Ruby whispered, standing on the stairs.
Iain looked at the letter again, for a moment, he debated lying to her, but he knew she hated lying. He handed her the letter.
"Oh my god, " Ruby whispered.
"Ruby, it'll be fine, you don't have to go. " Iain said, taking her hand.
Ruby nodded. "Iain, I want to. "
"Alright, " He said as he joined her on the stairs and hugged her.
That afternoon, Iain's solictor arrived at the house, to talk them both through what would happen.
"What happens if she's found guilty?" Ruby asked, when the solicitor asked if any of them had any questions.
"She'll spent five years in prision. " The solicitor replied.
"And if she's not" Iain knew there was a chance that as she was grieving for her own son, the judge could take that in to account and she could be let off.
"She'll be allowed to return to the ED. " The solicitor replied. "I'll be in court tomorrrow"
"Thanks mate" Iain replied, shaking the solicitors hand as he showed him out, while Ruby did the one thing Iain thought she had grew out of: She threw up. Iain followed her in to the kitchen, rubbing her back and getting her a glass of water. "Here" He said, handing her it. Ruby sat down at the kitchen table and took small sips.
"I love you, " Iain told her.
"I love you too. " Ruby replied as they kissed.
