The Secret Life Of Casualty.
Chapter 531
Ruby was kept in for observation after her attack, Connie had found her a private room, away from prying eyes. Kirsty had stayed with her while she had been examined and she was now dressed in her own clothes that Robyn had brought her in from her flat.
Now, the examination was over and Ruby was getting ready to go home. Kirsty took hold of her shaking hand. "You've done the hard bit, Ruby" Kirsty told her.
Ruby nodded, all she wanted to do was go home and lock the door.
There was a knock at the door and both Ruby and Kirsty looked up. It was Mrs Beachaump. She walked over to the bed and stood at the foot of it. "Ruby, take as much time as you need. "
"But the team-" Ruby started, but Connie shook her head.
"Can cope without you for a while. Lev and Jan can cope. " As Connie was talking, in her mind, she was relieving her own attack, she had been 12 years old and her uncle came in to her room one night, shut her door and when Connie questioned what he was doing, he put a finger to his lips and had started to undress her. She sat down on the bed.
Ruby nodded, she needed time to get over this. Connie left her to it.
"I'll walk you home," said Kirsty.
"Thanks" Ruby said, standing up from the bed and walking out in to the corridor, to the lifts.
Connie had told Charlie of Ruby's ordeal, just as the lifts doors opened and Ruby stepped out. Charlie walked over to her. She knew Charlie wasn't going to hurt her but right now, she wanted to stay away from men, at least, until the police had caught the man who had attacked her.
"I'm sorry Ruby, Duffy was attacked so I know what your going through, " The older man placed a hand on the younger paramedics shoulder.
Ruby could only mutter "thanks Charlie" before her and Kirsty left the ED, got in to Kirsty's car and drove back to her flat.
While I am enjoying writing about Ruby, I kind of feel like this story is becoming about her and it's not just about her, it's about different characters, so after this chapter, I will be taking a break from writing Ruby for a while.
