The Secret Life Of Casualty.

Chapter 551

I'd supported Ethan at Cal's funeral, when Josh lost his family in a house fire, I supported him, when Adam and Jess lost their baby, I'd supported them. But who was there to support me? Today was the day I laid my darling Duffy to rest, but I didn't know of I could manage it. She'd never forgive me though.

I stared in the mirror; I'd hardly slept since her death, but it comforted me to know that a part of her lived on as she had donated her organs. She was in a better place now.

I stared as someone knocked on the door. "Alright," I muttered, irratibly, trying to fix the button on my sleeve and brush my hair; Duffy would want me to look my best today. I unlocked the door.

It was Robyn. "I can't believe it, Charlie. " she says, dabbing at her already red eyes.

"I know, I know" I say, as she walks in.

Shortly after Robyn arrived, there was another knock at the door, it was Bill (despite our differences, Duffy would want him there)

Next, there is another knock; all three of Duffy's now adult children are looking at me, wearing sombre expressions.

"We wanted to pay our respects to mum, " says Peter, hugging me.

I nodded and Robyn informs me the hearse is outside. I took a deep breath, the boys and Noel were going to carry her coffin.

The boys and I sat in the hearse, with Duffy's coffin, in the back.

In the church, the pews were filled up, showing how loved Duffy was. The boys shouldered the coffin, aware it would be the last thing they could do for their mum.

After the service, I sat near the hole where Duffy now was.

"Sleep tight sweetheart, I love you" I told her.

"She loved you too, Charlie" The voice surprises me, I knew it,I turned slowly.

"Maggie?" I asked, in disbelief.

"I heard, Charlie, I'm so sorry" She says, hugging me.

I give in to the hug and cried for my beloved Duffy.

Please let me know what you thought, I'd really apperciate it.
