Chapter 25: Storm: Maggie and OA
A/N: Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Enjoy!
There was a different skeleton team assigned for the holidays this year. However, there would be additional agents from other teams who could be called in should the need arise. Maggie and OA came in for a possible bomb threat. They helped search and later clear the area when it turned out that it was a false alarm. They knew that if the threat was confirmed, the rest of their teammates would have to cut their holidays short.
When they were finally dismissed, the weather had turned for the worse. No forecast predicted the snowstorm hitting the city. The two agents braved through the elements. Wipers barely doing their job since they couldn't stare out of the windshield.
"Why is it that every time I let you drive, we always end up in a snowstorm or another weather disturbance?"
OA laughed. "Well, because that's the only time you let me drive."
Maggie joined in the laughter but suddenly stopped. "Wait, did you hear that?"
"All I can hear is growling wind and..." He managed to hit the brakes as a man seemingly appeared out of nowhere. He was frantically waving his hands but they couldn't hear what he's trying to say. Maggie reluctantly lowered her window when the man walked up to her side.
"Please, please, you have to help my wife!" the man pleaded. "She's about to give birth!"
She was about to open her door but her partner stopped her. "Mags, you don't know if he's telling the truth."
"You really think someone is going to rob us in the middle of this snowstorm?" He shrugged. "Well, I'm going to see if they really need help," she said before she went out of the vehicle.
Shaking his head, OA was left with no choice but to follow them.
"I was just about to drive her to the hospital but our car broke," the man explained. When they reached the car, he opened the passenger door. The very pregnant wife was taking quick breaths.
The husband and OA helped her to slowly transfer to their vehicle. Maggie held the door for them and helped her get settled in the back seat. Then, OA helped the husband quickly gather their things and secure their car.
When they returned, Maggie was already in the driver's seat. "I think it would be better if I drive this time." OA smiled as he climbed in.
"How long do you think it will take to get to the nearest hospital?" asked the husband while he's wiping his wife's face with a towel.
"About fifteen to twenty minutes but with my partner's driving, we could get there even faster," OA replied with a reassuring smile. The usual 15-minute drive took only 10 minutes.
OA and the husband were assisting the wife as Maggie rushed in to ask for help. "Emergency! There's a pregnant woman about to give birth!" The hospital staff jumped into action and soon the woman was in a wheelchair. They rushed her into the delivery room as the husband thanked them then immediately followed.
The agents sat and waited for two hours. When the couple finally got out, the wife was transferred to the recovery room. The husband motioned for them to follow. "I would just like to thank both of you for helping us. I know it wasn't easy to trust strangers nowadays but you still took the risk. Thank you."
Maggie and OA looked at each other. "It's our job to help people. We're just happy that everyone's okay, especially the baby," Maggie replied.
"Speaking of the baby, here he is," said the husband.
The agents turned to see the nurse bringing the baby boy. They peeked to see him sleeping and swaddled in light blue cloth.
As they stared at the couple with their bundle of joy, Maggie and OA were grateful to have helped bring a family together.
