Mako came from a generation where the husband took the lead. But she was willing to do what was necessary, what her husband Chizuo was not.

Day after day, she witnessed Tenko be subjected to Kotaro's belligerence for not developing a quirk and "daring" to look up to heroes. Mako couldn't remedy the former, but would foster the latter. It'd help the boy to have someone on his side, even if in secret. Hopefully, showing Tenko the error of his father's ways by demonstrating herself that adults could admire heroes without belittlement would keep his faith in them, and her.
