"IT'S A FUCKING MECHA?! WHY?! WHY IS IT A FUCKING MECHA?!" I scream, fleeing from a bipedal wooden structure over thirty feet tall.
Its feet thud on the earth, creating large craters wherever it walks and causing the very earth to shudder with each movement.
It...
Looks like a giant wooden squirrel.
Its right arm seems to whirl slightly, causing me to let out a shout of surprise as I dive behind a tree.
Acorns whiz past my hiding place, I can hear loud cracks and the sound of ripping wood as large clumps of dirt are kicked up by the sheer velocity of the acorns.
"WHAT THE FUCK?!" I shriek.
After a moment, the acorns stop, causing me to rapidly rush forwards as the figure crashes through the tree.
It is hauling ass.
Holy fuck that thing is fast- why is it so fucking fast-
I dive to the side, just barely avoiding being flattened by the stampeding squirrel mech.
It turns again, its arm whirling.
"FUUUUUUCK!" I loudly curse.
BANGBANGBANGBANG*
I am rendered Swiss cheese by fucking acorns.
I sit up abruptly, the hard bed and dark room greeting my red eyes as I look around briefly.
I am on the top bunk of one of six bunk beds in this room.
I look around blearily, then let out a sigh, laying back down and pulling the criminally thin blanket I have been given up to my chin.
Well.
That was fucking embarrassing.
"Are... you alright?" Eridani questions through our link via sacred gear.
'I'm fine. I've died before. That was probably just the lamest one... ugh. How do I beat that?'
"Preparation."
'What more can I do?'
"You could always explore the snow area... that place has some useful things. I'll compile a list of things you could use! oh! and those heart shaped crystals are found under ground! if you find a bunch of those, surely you'd be able to both outrun and survive such an onslaught with only bruises!"
'Thank you, Eridani.'
"No problem!"
I scratch my chin as I stare up at the ceiling.
What sort of resources do I have at my fingertips?
What could I use to destroy that fucker? even before getting access to more of those heart crystals?
Wait...
It's wood. I just need to burn it.
But how?
Ah! Slimes!
I can use slimes!
Slimes in that world drop gel whenever they are killed, said gel can be used to light fire that lasts a surprising amount of time... it's like napalm.
I'd need to commit slime genocide, but if I do, I should be able to light the fucker on fire, then I just need to worry about dodging as it burns to a crisp.
I nod slowly. 'a good plan, but I should also take a look in this 'ice zone' Eridani mentioned'
"Sooo, Eridani." I begin quietly as I trudge my way through the thick forest, a small smile on my face. "What am I expected to gather while I'm in the snowy place?"
"Ice and Snow." She replies simply.
"Oh..."
"That's merely the basics, of course. There are other items you should grab while you are there. There are some beasts that drop leather, the spikey slimes there drop a special crafting material, and there's also some beasts down in the caves that drop fuzz- which you'll need for some things." She continues.
"I see." I mutter, mostly to myself. "Do you think my clothes are thick enough?"
"No. But that's why we are going. We need the fuzz from that one monster to make effective winter clothing."
"Ah i- wait... what the fuck is... that?" I mutter suddenly, spying a... little girl with a flower flying at me at reasonably high speeds.
And by little, I mean size, not age, though she also appears to be quite young.
"That's an enemy!" Eridani shouts, and that's all she needs to say for me to charge a ki wave in one hand.
A puff of energy shoots from the flower towards me, but I sidestep and unleash the wave, utterly vaporizing the... fairy? I'm guessing it's some sort of fairy from the little insect-like wings.
My beam subsides as two items fall to the ground, I slowly approach, finding... some sort of patch?
It's blue in color with a white symbol on the front...
Beside it is just a small bag of coins totaling to about one silver and sixteen copper.
"Hey... Eridani? What does this do?" I question as I pick up the little patch.
Point Item:
Used to craft special boss summoning items or as currency for a special shop.
New Items have been unlocked in the Shop.
"Ah. Never mind." I blink owlishly. "What can I get with this?"
"Ah... at the moment? Nothing. You need twenty for even the least expensive item. A sword which can change the weather once per day." The purple haired woman begins.
"..." I am genuinely shocked silent.
It can do what?! What happens when i bring that sword out of this place?! What then?!
"As for the other stuff... uh... it's five points for a dress that does nothing special."
"So... just a bunch of vanity cosplay stuff?" I question.
"Pretty much, yes." The spirit confirms.
"Damn. what about the bosses?" I question.
"Eh, I mean, they're reasonably close to the squirrel boss." The girl shrugs.
"So... out of my league currently." I note with a small frown. "Ah well, I'll continue to prepare for- what is THAT?!"
I am once more distracted as another thing flies towards me, only this time its some sort of thruster powered egg-shaped drone?"
I lift a finger and shoot a hole in it with a 'death beam'. Then, seeing as how it didn't poof I do so again and again and again.
Poof*
It dismantles into scrap.
"Oh? This is useful! Kill a couple of these and you'll be able to get some extremely useful weapons and armor!" The purple haired girl beams. "Honestly, it might even be worth abandoning our snow trip just to find some more!"
"How good are the weapons?" I question.
"Well, it has a blunderbuss-"
I cut her off as that is the ONLY thing I need to hear. "I'm doing it. I NEED a gun!"
"This is... huh." I look to the strange weapon that rests in my hands. it is breach loaded, having a brown stock and a greenish-silver barrel.
I open it, grabbing a fist-full of metal scrap and shoving it in the barrel.
It closes with a loud crunch, I can hear the metal being ground up and broken inside of the gun barrel.
Suddenly a small green light appears on the side of the gun.
"It's ready to shoot." Eridani informs.
I walk over to a tree, holding the gun in one hand.
I pull the trigger, my eyes widening as the gun is practically HURLED from my grasp.
"AGH- my wrist! My finger!" I curse as I cradle my hand.
I blink and owlishly stare upwards, then am forced to sidestep as a tree falls towards me.
I stare at the felled tree for a long moment, letting out a muted 'huh'.
"You know, if this thing cut down a tree, it'd probably be pretty good against squirrel mech." I mutter to myself. "The only real issue is how much it costs to fire it once... one large hunk of scrap... or ten silver coins."
New items have been unlocked in the shop.
"Eridani?"
"Guns. You've unlocked more guns."
"GUNS?! OHOHOHO! HECK YEAH! What kinds?"
"Just two for now... flintlock and what's basically a weaker minigun called a 'minshark'. It also sells some basic bullets.
"Minigun?!"
"It's quite expensive, though... fifty two gold for the gun itself, ten copper per bullet."
I let out a small choking noise.
Fuck.
That's really expensive.
A long sigh leaves my lips as I walk over and pick up the blunderbuss. "Ah well. I guess I'm happy with this for now."
I brush some grass of it and reload it, then nod once. "Let's go to the snow area, I guess."
I blow hot air into my hands, rubbing them together as I trudge through an expanse of white. Snow crunches underfoot as a chilling wind blows through the mostly bare trees.
'fuck... it's so cold.'
My eyes spy another large spiked slime steadily bouncing towards me.
It is dispatched like the others, skewered by magical daggers.
I briefly pause to pick up the coins alongside the little icy piece it leaves behind, then continue walking onwards.
I lean forwards slightly as I see something in the far distance.
'wait... is- is that what I think it is?'
"Eridani... is that a house?"
"It is!" The girl cheers.
"That's lucky." I note as I glance upwards seeing no end to rolling dark clouds which had steadily been filling the sky. "That looks like one hell of a blizzard."
I tilt my head, cupping my chin as I give the clouds an inquisitive look. "Y'know... since I unlocked my sacred gear, I haven't frozen to death yet. I wonder how bad it is."
"Dante! Stop trying to collect ways to die!" The spirit exclaims.
"Fine fine." I sigh with a small wave. "It'd suck to be forced to walk all the way back over here... though I will admit am mildly curious."
"HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU DIED FOR YOU TO BE CURIOUS OF THAT?!"
"..."
I begin counting on my fingers.
"Ah... about thirty from the mimic, sort of lost count after a while. Got struck by lightning that one time, ripped apart by zombies numerous times, pelted to death by floating eyeballs- and you'd think they'd be squishy... being eyes and all, but it was like being hit by a bunch of sentient head-sized rocks. I've drowned a few times- really not a fan-, fell to my death a few times, oh, then I got crushed by falling rocks, shot by poison arrows, got mowed down by a giant squirrel. Soooo overall? I'd say perhaps... two hundred deaths if we take into account the ones I skipped over?
I continue walking as a gentle flurry begins to fall on the land, then I speed myself up, blurring through the snow as I make my way to the top of the hill.
After around five minutes of running I come to a broken and battered house.
There's a large hole in one part of it, the part that I climb in through.
The floor has been absolutely covered in snow. Furniture lines the room. But the snow obscures its edges, making it a little difficult to figure out what a lot of this stuff actually is.
"A bedroom." Eridani observes.
There is one sole door that leads deeper inside the house.
I open the door- a bit of a task due to all the snow on the floor of this room and step inside.
My eyes widen as I look around. "Huh, this one is surprisingly secure!"
I close the bedroom door behind me, then look around the new room.
A low hum leaves my lips as I walk around briefly. 'Table, chairs, a fireplace... this is quite cozy.'
"Hey, Eridani... is it possible to set my 'spawn' somewhere?"
"You'll need a bed, and that requires some silk, which you get from spiderweb." She informs.
"Son of a- I JUST saw like... a MASSIVE clump of spiderweb in the caverns that I stepped around because I didn't feel like dealing with that shit!" I sigh dramatically. "Ugh. Walking back over here is going to be such a pain."
I walk over to the other door in the room and promptly slide open several latch bolts, then walk outside, spying a nearby tree.
It is cut down as I shoot several magical daggers into its base.
I am quick to chop it up, switching to death beams after my mana bottoms out.
After a short ten minutes, I am left with quite a substantial amount of firewood, and not too soon, as the blizzard above really begins to kick off. I'm struggling to see much more than twenty feet away.
I drag the wood to the door, taking in quite a few logs, then close the door behind me.
I walk over to the fire, taking some of the smaller bits of wood and toss them in the fire place.
'let's see here-' "Oh! Flint and Steel! How lucky!"
Send a shower of sparks into the fireplace, beginning to create a nice toasty fire.
I nod with a pleased smile as I can hear the wind whistle outside.
I stand up, turning to walk towards a nearby chair-
Thud*
I pause and glance down at the rug on the floor. "huh?"
I stomp on it twice more.
Thud*
Thud*
"Hmmmmm?" I hum, a small smirk appearing on my face.
I pull back the rug, revealing a trap door hidden underneath. "Well well well, what do we have here?"
I open the trap door that leads down into the cellar.
I take the Wulfrum blunderbuss off my back and haphazardly hop down.
My gaze scans the room briefly, instantly locking onto a simple blue chest.
"Hmph." I hum idly as I point the gun at the blue chest, eyes narrowed.
A magical dagger sinks into it, but judging how the lid didn't snap open, grow teeth, and tentacles didn't spew from its underside... I'd say that it's not a mimic.
I walk forwards and open the chest, letting out a low hum as i look inside to see... ah...
"Eridani, what exactly is this? The item description isn't exactly helping that much."
Presserator:
Allows you to infuse Actuators into objects as you create them.
"Oh, Actuators are something you'll unlock at a later date in the shop. Basically when wired to a switch, it could allow you to cause walls to stop being solid, allowing you to walk through them."
"..."
"Could I use this on a ghost to allow me to punch them?"
The purple haired girl opens her mouth only to pause.
"Huh... I... don't know, actually." The girl admits.
Anyways, the other items here aren't that interesting. I got two gold- which is going into my fund for buying that minigun- a Brick Layer, which... I mean, I have no bricks or cement.
Brick Layer:
Enhances the durability of created brick walls by 25%
There's a toolbox.
Toolbox:
Filled with the basics. Pliers, a Carpenter Hammer, Screwdriver, and a series of small spanners. In addition, it has a small selection of iron nails, bolts, and lug nuts that regenerate at the start of every day.
And finally, there's two brown potions in a cube-like bottle.
Builder's Potion:
Grants you inspiration to make your carpentry projects and your Constructions look better than a simple wooden cube. (Duration: 45 Minutes)
"Huh." I hum mutely, eyes straying to another chair and a simple workbench.
"Question. Eridani. Can I smelt these nails down?"
"I... suppose?" She mutters.
"Good, good, I've just found an infinite source of Iron, then." I smile brightly, hugging the toolbox close to my chest.
"It's not enough for an entire bar, though. I doubt you'd be able to make much with them anyways."
"But. It's free." I repeat. "And it's Infinite."
"Days add up Eridani. I might not be able to make a single bar a day, but what about seven? If I can make one bar per week, then that's fifty five bars a year. Five hundred and fifty at the end of the decade!"
"It might just be better to find other materials in that scenario." The girl points out.
"Oh, for sure." I agree immediately. "If I haven't defeated that squirrel fuck in a year I've failed. This is just a little more of a side project. You never know when a bar of iron could be useful. Maybe I'll need some disposable throwing knives. Maybe some basic metal plating. If such a case ever arises... I know it'll have my back!"
"FUCK!" I loudly curse as I dive to the side, a laser beam shooting through the place my torso was moments before. "WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?!"
There's a slight glint from my foe... then a large blue beam carves through the land, creating a large spiked wall of ice as I duck to the side.
I glare over my shoulder, seeing an absolutely massive humanoid figure.
It towers above me, reaching possibly twenty feet tall.
It is entirely made of ice, a biting chill radiating from its body as it continues to lumber forwards.
Not quite the height of that squirrel mecha, but it is pretty impressive in its own right.
I heft the large blunderbuss in my hands, aiming it at the target, then pull the trigger, an ache entering my shoulder as the gun kicks back against me.
A spray of sparks explodes from the barrel, shooting up towards the torso of the golem, numerous large hunks of metal imbed themselves in the golem, causing numerous cracks to cascade throughout it as it takes a single step backwards. Its once clear body becoming an opaque white from the damage.
It glares downwards, causing me to let out another shout as two beams shoot from its eyes, a large spike of ice appearing where they land.
"Shit. Shit. Shit." I whisper as I reach into the thunderbird bag of holding and grab a fist-full of scrap that I had brought with me. I shove it into the gun and slam it shut, my knees tense, then I suddenly leap, body cloaked in sand as I spiral upwards.
A laser swipes through the area my chest was a moment before, narrowly missing my feet as the sand abruptly stops.
I flip forwards, punching forwards with my offhand as a large clamp shoots off from the vambrace around my forearm.
It sinks into the snow and I find myself drug forwards, my feet carving a trench in the snow as I land roughly back on the ground.
"Your blunderbuss should hurt it a lot more if you get closer." Eridani informs. "More force to a smaller surface area."
"Got it. I need to seal its mobility first." I whisper. "Sooo. Leg?"
I turn on a dime, rushing forwards at high speeds.
I duck to the side, avoiding a laser beam, then point my forearm forwards.
The hook shot fires again, digging into the icy body of the golem as I begin to run alongside it.
As it looks like i may get clipped by a laser, I begin rapidly retracting the grappling hook, pulling me through the snow towards the gigantic ice creature.
I am slightly catapulted upwards as I swing by the golem, once more propelled by sand, the chain grows taut, my upward momentum changing to sideways momentum, the chain curving along the back of the golem as i am swung low.
i grasp the blunderbuss in both hands and fire it towards the ankle.
BOOM*
"FF-" I hiss as I am practically punched in the stomach by the high powered weapon.
But it appears that my close proximity did cause a bit of damage to the golem, its step is stifled, leg being moved slightly.
It staggers forwards, nearly tripping over its own feet as its leg is shoved in front of its other one.
The grappling hook abruptly released, causing me to be sent rolling through the snow.
I manage to land sitting upwards, briefly blinking away the dizzy sensation that permeates my being.
I rocket to my feet, rushing to the side, just barely avoiding the blast of ice as the golem regains its bearings.
My eyes flick to its leg as i reload.
My attack did a bit more this time it appears... some of the ice has been sheared off the body of the golem.
If i can hit it with another one of those...
A flurry of magical daggers flies towards its leg as I slam the blunderbuss shut, they cause some fair damage, then i point my finger to roughly the same area as the golem stomps.
I slide to a halt as a wave of icicles seems to shoot from the ground, pointed towards my jugular.
Luckily I manage to stop, the ice hanging dangerously close to my neck, i turn and begin running again, this time in the opposite direction as I unleash several thin beams of energy towards the golem's ankle.
My attacks mostly just wash over the ice but a few seem to knock aside a few of the loose bits of ice that were cracked by my earlier attacks, further removing anything that has a chance to deflect my future shot.
I lunge forwards at high speed, angling myself so my sandy leap carries me just above the surface of the ground.
I am flipped upside down as I take aim, then with a pull of the trigger I am further disorientated, the kick thankfully, flipping me over, but yet again it hurts like a bitch.
I somehow landed on my feet, quickly turning around in surprise just in time to see the golem fall to a knee.
My attacks have worked. Now one of its legs have been sheared off below the knee.
The golem turns its head to look at me, once more unleashing a blast of ice that i barely avoid.
I reload my gun as I circle around behind it, my next target already chosen.
I leap up onto its back, avoiding a few icicles as it punches the earth.
My feet make contact with its frigid exterior, wincing slightly as frost begins to creep up my shoes.
But.
I have come this far. I can't stop yet.
I run up its back, pausing just at where the shoulder blades would be... i point the gun at the back of the golem's head, then after a quick peppering of magic daggers, i pull the trigger.
"Grooooo." The golem seems to groan as incredible cracks cascade throughout its body.
Then...
Poof*
It turns into a fine snowy powder.
I lay in the snow, breathing heavily as I stare up into the sky. "Fuuuuck."
I slowly sit up, a numbness beginning to set in on my limbs. My body aches and as i pull out the collar of my shirt and glance downwards, numerous large blackish bruises cover my torso.
I slowly get to my feet and look around. "Alright, what do we have here?"
I look to a blue little feather, a frown on my face.
Icy Feather:
A chilled feather used for crafting.
"Eridani?" I question.
"You can only make one thing with that... Wings... but to do that, you'll need souls of flight."
"WINGS?!" I gasp "I can fly?!"
"To get wings, you'll need to kill a wyvern, something far more powerful than that golem or even most of the other early bosses. It is quite a ways away." The woman informs as I stand up, briefly looking around.
There's a little gemstone on the floor and I pick it up.
Instantly I pause, cautiously looking over my body. "Hang on... I'm feeling pretty warm... is this the final stages of hypothermia?!"
"No." Eridani informs. "Take a look at the item."
Frigid Gemstone:
A shard of ancient magical ice that grants a great resistance to the cold. Additionally you are granted the ability to manipulate ice, with your ice attacks inflicting 'Frostburn' on whatever they hit.
I blink slowly. "Huh?"
I raise a hand, and with a flash a small spike of ice appears, hovering in the air.
"..."
"That didn't cost me any mana." I observe.
I create a larger one, then a larger one- "Ah. There's the cost. It seems like i can do small things for free. But anything larger starts taxing my magical power."
A bright smile comes to rest on my face as i continue to look around.
Now unbothered by the cold, I begin digging through the pile of snow the ice golem left behind.
After about ten minutes i find a few things. The first, nine gold coins, bringing me closer and closer to my goal, the next, a wooden crate which apparently is some form of loot box that I plan to open when i get back home, then, finally... some weird snowflake shaped stuff.
Essence of Eleum:
The Essence of Cold creatures.
"I don't believe you are supposed to have this yet." Eridani frowns. "However. this gives me an idea."
Heyo, here with another chapter. I hope you enjoy!
