There she was, at the entrance to her own private labs, equipped with the most advanced technology in the world and fitted with some of the best researchers and scientist in the Neo Silver Millenium.
ll
ll
All she had to do was ask them... to research how they could bring back the fallen Sailor Guardians.
ll
ll
At first, she hesitated. Mamoru warned her about forcing the Guardians to come back early and that it took time and theys shouldn't mess with the process.
ll
ll
But she missed the so dearly. And running the entire kingdom by themselves was weighing on her. She desperately NEEDED the support of her friends.
ll
She took many days to weigh her options. But in the end decided that she would do whatever she could to bring them back. She had the resources and and a bit of the time, why not, and she swore not to even tell Mamoru until after it was successful.
ll
ll
So one day, she gingerly walks down to the labs to greet her personal researchers.
ll
ll
They are surprised to see her, they never thought their queen would have any business going down to the labs for anything.
ll
ll
ll
ll
After the shock and awe wore off, Usagi gave them the Guardian's crystals and told them what she was requesting of them, making sure to explicitly explain to them how she did NOT want Mamoru knowing about anything she was talking about.
ll
ll
So the researchers went to work, figuring out, just how they could potentially revive the Sailor Guardians to the amazing people they heard about. They did experiments to see how the crystal reacted in different ways.
ll
ll
For many days, tests were run on the crystals, figuring out what made the react and release fragments of power.
ll
ll
So experiments proceeded for months, some experiments showed progress, others created doubt.
ll
For months on end, The researchers tried different, promising methods to see what would work, but nothing seemed to go as planned. Every time they though they were close, an experiment would fail at the last second.
ll
ll
Since Mamoru had no business being in the labs either, he was none the wiser about what Usagi was doing behind his back. Sure he would notice every now and again that she would be gone for short periods of time unannounced, but she always came back within a reasonable time frame. When he asked about where she might have been, she always tells him that she was just out for a walk just wandering about.
ll
ll
To him, this made complete sense. Usagi had always been a free spirit. You couldn't keep her in one place too long, unless it had to do with sleep.
ll
ll
ll
To Mamoru, she was completely fine and he had nothing to worry about.
ll
ll
But these "walks" that Usagi went on, were usually trips to the lab to see her scientists progress. Seeing what was happening, asking questions, it was a schedule she kept to almost religiously.
ll
ll
ll
ll
But after some time, when she was laying asleep in bed with Mamoru, she received a message to her new transceiver, it was no capable of receiving messages and calls like a phone. It buzzed softly on her wrist until she groaned quietly awake to see what it was.
ll
ll
ll
(Usagi) Jeez, who is even contacting me at this hour, better be something good or else I'm gonna be mad...
ll
ll
She looked at the message and quickly hid it to herself as she saw the sender. After she made completely sure that Mamoru was still asleep did she finally read the entirety of the message, which was only a few words.
Message: Head of Research, Ryo:
It is done. Please come to the Lab immediately.
She repeated those words in her head as she quietly, but quickly got dressed and went down to the lab, almost sprinting as she went, even though there was no one to see her.
ll
ll
After 5 minutes, Usagi burst into the labs to meet with her head of Research for the Neo Silver Millenium, Ryo Asahi.
ll
ll
ll
(Ryo) Good morning my queen. I see you've received my message.
ll
ll
(Usagi) Is it true!? Did you really perfect the procedure!?
ll
ll
(Ryo) We do not know if it is perfected, but we are about to try reviving them through the crystals for the very first time. I thought you would want to see it.
ll
ll
(Usagi) Thank you for your consideration, I did want to be here to see them first.
ll
ll
(Ryo) Okay everyone, start the procedure!
ll
ll
Scientist started pressing buttons on keyboards and monitoring systems.
ll
ll
All the while, there were eight glass chambers with a socket on the front for the crystals. From there, there were hidden wire and tubes that were involved in the process.
ll
ll
ll
Within the glass chambers, they began to fill with colored lights, each a different color that corresponded to each of their crystals.
ll
ll
It took a few minutes, but there was an alarm that sounded before everything seemed to power down.
ll
ll
ll
(Ryo) Now, to see if the experiment went well. Would you like to do the honors of welcoming them back from the dead?
ll
ll
ll
Usagi had small tears coming from her eyes.
ll
(Usagi) Certainly. I am their leader after all.
ll
ll
Usagi walked out of the control center and walked out into the enormous underground lab space that was covered in marble white floors and walls.
ll
ll
All of the chambers opened at once and the Guardians all stepped out. They were recognisable through the steam that emanated from the glass chambers.
ll
ll
As Usagi was about to go out and greet them, she looked back for a second to see Ryo spinning her head from person to person, his expression looking more and more horrified.
ll
ll
She was about to go back in and ask if everything was okay, but she heard him over the intercom.
ll
ll
(Ryo) Queen Serenity! GET OUT OF THERE, SOMETHINGS WRONG WITH THE OTHER GUARDIANS! GET BACK INSIDE, NOW!
ll
ll
Usagi took another look back at the other guardians. By now the steam had cleared and each one of them looked at her with a degree of absolute fury and hatred.
ll
ll
She felt an icy chill go down her spine. Each one of them, her own friends and allies looked with the intent to kill.
ll
ll
She rushed back into the control room, but as the thick metal doors began to close, they all rushed at high speeds towards her, sinister grins on each of their faces.
ll
ll
But before they could get to her, the doors closed and she could hear them wailing on the door to get to her.
ll
ll
When she rushed back to Ryo, she was mortified. What was wrong with them? Why did they all look at her like that?
ll
ll
Once she got back to the main control room, she stomped her way to Ryo, who was just staring out at the lab floor.
ll
ll
ll
ll
(Usagi) RYO! What the hell happened out there!? What's wrong with them? I thought you said that it was done!?
ll
ll
When Ryo continued to look out at the lab area, Usagi grew angrier.
ll
ll
(Usagi) OH come on! What is it...
ll
ll
ll
ll
She looked out to see that other scientists were also looking out into the lab area, but their faces were different. Ryo's face was one of complete shock and awe. But for the other scientist, some were crying, but not making a sound, some had covered their mouths and other just watched with mouths hung open.
ll
ll
Usagi snapped her head to the side. "What was so interesting that they could just ignore their queen!?"
ll
ll
ll
Her answer came, in the color of scarlet and white.
ll
Each of them were yelling at each other like they were the only guardian left.
ll
As she looked out. She saw Rei's body being thrown into the side of the lab at full force by an psychosis-induced rage by Makoto. After her body hit the wall and fell to the floor, she did not get up. There was now a giant red splotch of blood that had stuck itself from Rei's body to the wall, dripping down slowly.
ll
Looking at the body, she was covered in bullet holes.
ll
ll
But from Rei, she looked around to see that Makoto and Haruka were now in a full blown fist fight, one where they were beating each other, but also trying to shoot each other, but Minako used her chain on both of them and used her shotgun to blow an enormous hole into each of them. The two slumped to the ground together as the chain disappeared.
ll
ll
ll
ll
But Minako was then shot to death by Ami and Michiru trying to use their own strategies to kill one another. But after a few minutes, Ami was able to throw Michiru off guard and use one of her more advanced abilities to freeze Michiru and kill her instantly. But after her defeat, Ami was impaled by Hotaru, using her silence glaive to do the job.
ll
ll
Hotaru removed the blade with a sickening sound and was forced into combat with the last one standing, Setsuna. The two used their polearms to the best of their ability, fighting for their lives to defeat an enemy that had been long since defeated.
ll
ll
All the while, everyone in the command center watched with horror as their heroes, people they had heard about in school, were ruthlessly killing each other right before their very eyes.
ll
ll
Back to the fighting. As Hotaru and Setsuna clashed, no one could hear what they were saying. It was like there was a white noise in everyone's mind, trying to convince themselves that this wasn't real.
ll
ll
The two fought for a while longer, Setsuna gaining an advantage.
ll
ll
But as it seemed the end was closing in, Hotaru used the full force of her suicide attack that kill both of the in a shower of destructive light.
ll
ll
In the aftermath, their fights had done nothing more than crack a few of the floor and wall tiles and a crystals were scattered across the lab floor.
ll
ll
ll
It seemed that everyone was reeling back because Ryo began to try addressing Usagi.
ll
ll
(Ryo) Queen Serenity... I am sorry you had to witness this... "incident". We will try again at some time in the future, if do not wish to be present, I-
ll
ll
ll
(Usagi) No need. I will be here when it happens. And at that time, we will try again. Don't lose hope because we failed a first time, but allow it to drive you further.
ll
ll
The scientists didn't know whether to be concerned or to admire their Queen's courage from what she said. THey watched her leave the lab.
ll
ll
ll
After leaving the lab, she went to the replica of the Hikawa Shrine and went inside the secret compartment, somewhere no one would find her and she finally set herself down and broke into tears. No sobbing or crying. Just tears streaming down her face. It was just like then. Her friends died right in front of her, again. But this time, it was like they were possessed by something.
ll
ll
ll
ll
It became a yearly event. Every month, she would check their progress and every year around the same time, another experiment would take place.
ll
ll
Although Mamoru never found out about the experiments, after this one, when he saw Usagi, he could easily see the despair on her face when she didn't notice him, but when he would go up to her to see what was wrong, she would assure him, that everything was completely fine. But he knew something was off. He looked all over the place, but couldn't figure out a single reason why she might be upset.
ll
ll
ll
The next year came around and everyone watched with anticipation and dread. The difference this time was that each of the Sailor Guardians were given time to awaken in their chambers. Then they were released.
ll
ll
This experiment ended in failure because they each though the others were infected and that they were being deceived. It was the same outcome.
ll
ll
ll
This time, Usagi stayed in the labs for an entire day to wallow in her sorrows, just staring at the lab area, even after most of the scientists had gone home for the day. Thinking.
ll
ll
(Usagi) (Is any of this really worth it? Why is it that I'm trying so hard to bring them back. Every time we've managed to do so thus far, had ended in pain and misery, so why?)
ll
ll
ll
She left the labs late at night, to be a mother, wife and queen that did not frown or cry, but the brave, cheerful and calm Serenity that everyone in her current life has become accustomed to know.
ll
ll
It was slowly tearing at her, the "incidents" were so horrific and violent, she couldn't believe they were happening a few feet from her.
ll
ll
ll
In the following months, she only checked in every two months or so, less eager to see the progress being made.
ll
ll
ll
ll
Then came the time again in the third year. She was still recovering from the two previous attempts, but she still had a positive outlook.
ll
ll
ll
Before the experiment began, she had a word with Ryo.
ll
ll
ll
(Ryo) Alright everyone! This it the third attempt at Operation Solar Revival, lets get it right this time.
ll
ll
(Usagi) Ryo, I have an idea for this time.
ll
ll
(Ryo) Oh? And what might that be my queen?
ll
ll
(Usagi) I will go in there and personally greet them myself to the world of the living.
ll
ll
ll
The entire command center looked at her. Their eyes were full of shock, surprise, and worry, even a few of the scientists were whispering to each other.
ll
ll
Ryo had to straighten himself after remembering whose presence he was in.
ll
ll
(Ryo) Um... My queen, I do not believe I heard you correctly. Did you say that you were going in there to greet them yourself? Do you know how DANGEROUS that is!? You've already seen what happens when they see you or each other. Are you absolutely positive you want to do this? What if they injure you?
ll
ll
(Usagi) You don't have to worry about that. After so many years with the Silver Crystal, I'm almost indestructible. Anything they might try with either be useless or might bruise me, but I'll b fine regardless.
ll
ll
Ryo nodded, proceeded to prepare the Operation to ensue and Usagi walked in the Lab area, making sure to instruct the scientist to listen for her command for when she wants a chamber to be opened.
ll
ll
ll
ll
ll
One by one, Usagi awakened and greeted each guardian, whether it was peacefully or through brute force.
ll
ll
In the end, everyone was calmed and understood their situation.
ll
ll
ll
The day went by and everything looked like a success.
ll
ll
ll
When she hugged each of them and sent them to rooms accustomed to each of them, she felt like it finally worked, she had her friends again.
ll
ll
ll
She went back home, much happier than usual, Mamoru wasn't concerned, and actually welcomed the unusual joy that Usagi was feeling.
ll
ll
But her happiness didn't last.
ll
ll
The next morning, she came in, ready to say good morning to her old friends again, just like the good ol' days.
ll
ll
But before she when she got to their quarters, she heard banging and screams for help on the other sides of their doors.
ll
ll
She then went into the security office to see what was wrong with them.
ll
ll
They had gone insane.
ll
ll
ll
ll
They hadn't even lived for a day and they lost their sanity. No one knew the answer. There way just no telling how this could've happened. But after a psych evaluation it was learned that they all had gone insane under the pretext of the endings of their past lives. They felt the pain, they heard the sounds. They were reliving their final moments in their heads, over and over again.
ll
ll
ll
A few of the scientists were at their limits. They protested and felt that this was all pointless and fruitless. There was nothing to be gained here.
ll
ll
But in the presence of their queen, her now icy glare at them only said a single sentence.
ll
ll
ll
(Usagi) If you cannot proceed, that is fine, we will find replacements for now, but do not forget, you take this secret to your grave.
ll
ll
ll
ll
The scientists left, their replacements coming as they were leaving.
ll
ll
ll
The research continued.

End of Chapter 1: The Madness Begins
Sorry if this seems a little too much or too little. I'm really wingin it here because I'm not sure where to end! The idea of the story has so much potential that I;m not so sure as to where I should end and begin!
