Ch 2: Meet the Team, Suspicious Robberies
(Hiro's P.O.V)
"Give it up, Big Hero 6! We have you surrounded!"
That was Chief Cruz, and he's trying to get us to surrender. Why he and the rest of the police are after us is a long story. We didn't do anything wrong. We were only investigating a bank
robbery, one of many this week, when they showed up. We've told them many times that we weren't criminals and are only trying to help protect the city, but they won't listen.
"Chief. We mean no harm. We're only trying to help."
That was Honey Lemon. She was trying to tell Chief Cruz what our true intentions were, but as usual, he was refusing to hear us out.
"I don't care. You are all still under arrest for aiding in the escape of a dangerous criminal. Surrender now while you still can," Chief Cruz demanded.
All of us sighed in annoyance. Chief Cruz was referring to the incident with Globby and Nega Globby, but he doesn't know about Nega Globby. He doesn't know that's what was forcing him to commit crimes. We tried many times to explain this to the Chief, but he wouldn't listen to us.
"Sorry Chief, but there are bad guys to catch, and a city that needs to be protected," I explained. "Come on guys."
We all then hopped onto Baymax and took off, but not before hearing Chief Cruz say he wouldn't rest until we were behind bars. It didn't take us long to reach our secret headquarters, and we started talking about the situation almost immediately after arriving.
"That was a close one," said GoGo, taking off her helmet.
"Yeah. Too close. Every time we try to stop a criminal, the police show up and we lose the bad guy. And then we're the ones almost getting arrested," Wasabi explained. "I don't know about you guys, but it's starting to become a problem."
"I agree," added Honey Lemon. "It's almost like Chief Cruz is more focused on throwing us in jail rather than the actual criminals."
Everyone agreed with Honey Lemon before I spoke up.
"I don't think that's entirely true. Chief Cruz does have his mind set on arresting us, but he's also taking care of the bad guys," I said.
Everyone looked at me, confused. "Then how is this creep getting away without being detected, while we're the ones getting our butts into trouble," asked GoGo.
"They're taking advantage of the police going after us and using it as an opportunity to get away. That's likely how they were able to steal from three banks this week," I explained. "But lucky for us, I placed a small tracker on the robber before they got away this time, before the police showed up."
Everyone looked at me in surprise while I told Basemax to pull up the tracker information.
GoGo hummed as she crossed her arms. "Pretty impressive, Hiro. I take it you also made a plot chart to keep track of what banks this guy is stealing from."
I smiled sheepishly and told Basemax to show a picture of the plot chart. "Yeah. I asked Megan to help me with it. It took us a while, but we learned what banks they were stealing from, and how often they robbed them over the past few weeks. We also concluded they're mostly stealing from the top banks in the city, but we still don't know why."
The six of us were silent for a few moments before Fred spoke up. "Probably because those specific banks are known for holding onto top secret files and weapons," he said.
All of us looked at him in confusion. "Fred, what are you talking about, and how do you know this," asked GoGo.
"My dad. He used to be a superhero too, remember? The mayor and the people trusted him with everything, even their deepest, darkest secrets," he said.
"If that's the case, Freddie, why would they be going after them," Honey Lemon asked.
I sighed. "That's what we need to find out. It's why I placed the tracker on the robber. This way, we can follow them to their hideout and find out exactly what they're trying to steal and what their plans are," I said.
"That's a good idea Hiro, but there's still one problem. What are we going to do about the police? Every time we leave our headquarters to stop a bad guy, they are behind us shortly after. We can't help people and protect the city if they keep threatening to arrest us every time we turn around," GoGo explained. "We need serious help if we're going to pull this off."
"I agree with you one hundred percent, GoGo, and I know just the person to ask," stated Fred, as he went through some pictures on Basemax. "Ladies and gentlemen, may I introduce to you, our only hope for getting past Chief Cruz and saving the city, a powerful, legendary wizard!"
We all gave Fred a confused look as what looked like an elf appeared on the screen. The elf was holding a staff, wearing a white hooded college sweatshirt with teal pants, purple socks, and gray shoes. We continued looking at Fred until Wasabi broke the silence, and he said what all of us were thinking. "Um, Fred. What are we looking at," he asked.
"That, Wasabi, is Wilden Lightfoot, known as Wilden the Whimsical. He and my dad worked together all the time in the old days. Like, there were five times when all of my dad's enemies teamed up, overpowered him, and almost took over the city. Lucky for him, Wilden came to the rescue and together they saved it from mass destruction. A typical superhero phase three complication," Fred explained.
All of us continued looking at Fred in confusion, except for GoGo, who rolled her eyes and told him how ridiculous the idea sounded. Honey Lemon seemed to agree as well.
"GoGo's right. Even if wizards do exist, it would be too risky for one to help us right now. Sorry, Freddie," she said.
Fred sighed. "Fine, but I'm still going to talk to my dad while you guys are learning college stuff to see if he can contact Wilden. Because even if he can't come and help us physically, he might be able to give us advice over the phone," he explained, and we nodded.
"Then it's settled. We'll meet up at Fred's after school to talk with Mr. Fredrickson and Wilden before heading out again to look for this bank robber," I explained.
Everyone agreed. So, after a few more minutes of talking, we changed out of our armor and headed towards SFIT for class. On the way there, I couldn't help but think about what Fred said. Having a wizard on our side would help, but the existence of one is nearly impossible. Even if one did exist, helping us would be far too risky for them because of the police. I sighed. I tried my best to not think about it anymore than I had to for now, but I was unaware that would change later, after receiving a worrisome text from a close friend.
