He had found one last Toad trapped in a box, and a few more holes, but nothing else important in Graffiti Underground, so he left through the pipe. He walked around the rubble until Olivia spotted something.
It was Luigi's hat.
"Mario! I found a hat that looks like your hat! It must be the twin of your red hat!"
Mario examined it. It was perfectly clean except for a little smear of dirt on the brim. "Luigi!"
"Big bro! Big bro! I'm over here!"
Olivia looked around, then at the hat. "It can speak...?"
"Olivia, no," Mario said.
Mario followed Luigi's call until he came across a fully-intact corner of a wall of the castle.
"Big bro!"
"Where are you at?" Olivia asked.
"I don't know, it's like I'm trapped between dimensions!"
"Oh! You're stuck in a wall then!"
"...What?"
"Mario, we have to save the soul of the hat twin!"
"Olivia, the hat isn't alive. That's-a my brother in the wall!"
Mario walked around and hammered a few things before finding the Magic Circle. He tore the paper off the wall and caught his brother as his hands returned to normal.
"Luigi!"
Mario!"
The brothers embraced, Mario patting Luigi consolingly on the back.
"Mario! It's-a good to see you're okay!"
"It's the same-a for you, Weegee!"
"So Luigi is your...twin brother?"
Both of the brothers looked at Olivia. Luigi gasped lightly. "She's adorable!"
Mario looked at Luigi, then back to Olivia. "Um...yeah. We're-a twins. Like you and-a Olly are."
Olivia looked at the hat in her hands. "I wish Olly would think of me that way. Or even give me a hug, or something..." She sighed.
"Is everything-a okay?" Luigi asked.
She shook her head, smiling. "It's nothing! I'm just morning over nothing!"
"Olivia-" Mario started.
"I told you it was nothing, Mario!" Her face went from angry, to sad. "Oh, I-I'm sorry, Mario. I didn't mean to yell at you."
Mario and Luigi stayed silent. Mario was surprised to hear Olivia raise her voice, since she was always pretty calm. Mario noticed she was shaking lightly.
"Olivia? Are you-a okay?"
Olivia looked at her hands. "I ruined everything for our relationship. I turned against him, he was just trying to protect me. Everything that's happened was all my fault."
"I don't-a think it was, Olivia." Mario told her.
"Yeah! You're-a super nice! If somebody hates you, that's their-a problem!" Luigi said cheerfully.
Mario nodded. "And, when I was-a talking with the origami-a Peach, she said something about-a 'the Toads being destroyed.'"
"The Toads? What do the Toads have to do with this?"
"And if you-a think about it, you said you were-a told that the Toads were 'horrifying-a creatures that can't be-a trusted,' right? Who-a told you that?"
"Olly, he was always there for me. In fact, I suppose I haven't seen our creator yet since I've been folded..."
"Do you think-a that your creator is a Toad?" Luigi asked.
"And Olly's colors are so faded...no wonder he's so upset." Olivia had a bit of a sparkle return to her eyes. "I wonder what happened to make my usually calm brother outrage like this. He's not acting like himself anymore."
"Oh yeah!" Luigi gasped. "I was-a supposed to find the key to Peach's castle!"
"Oh!" Olivia exclaimed. "You probably should find it then! Once we get rid of all the streamers, we'll need that key to get inside!"
"Alright, big bro! I'm heading off to find the key!" He ran off.
Olivia waved him farewell with his hat, then faced back to the plumber again.
"So, the red streamer. We should head after that one first, huh? I wonder where it leads..."
Luigi came back. "I'll uh...need my-a hat though."
Olivia handed it to him. "Here you are!"
Luigi rushed of again.
"Alright!" Mario said. "Onwards to the-a red streamer!"
