Emily heaved out a heavy sigh as she rolled around in her boyfriend's bed at the Salvatore boarding house. The Radkova witch had definitely regretted drinking until two in the morning with Damon and Katherine if her headache was anything to go by. Emily had been happy to celebrate Damon's cured werewolf bite and saying goodbye to Katherine before she left town last night, but Emily was really regretting those multiple bottles of bourbon.
The headache was partly to blame for why the Radkova witch was still in her pajamas in bed at three in the afternoon. The other part was because Emily was missing her boyfriend so much. Emily didn't realize how difficult it was going to be going without Stefan around. This was the first time that the Radkova witch had been away from Stefan since he was locked underneath Fell church, so it was hard for Emily to go on knowing that she couldn't even contact her boyfriend and hear his comforting voice.
The sadness that Emily felt about not being able to talk to Stefan was on top of the heartbreak that she felt from losing her twin sister along with the guilt that she still felt for all of the people that she had hurt when her emotions were off. Emily knew no one blamed her for what happened during that time period but that didn't mean that Emily had forgiven herself for being so careless and hurting innocent people.
It was hard for Emily to go back to her regular life when all of these emotions were hitting her all at once. Emily honestly couldn't even be bothered to get out of bed for anything. Katherine had to forcefully pull Emily out of bed to say goodbye before the Radkova witch clung onto Stefan's comforting blanket.
Damon had tried to get the Radkova witch up to eat something a couple of times but the eldest Salvatore vampire gave up when he noticed that Emily really wasn't feeling well emotionally. Emily did appreciate it that the blue eyed vampire left her a couple of fruits and waters on the bedside table, so she didn't grow hungry or dehydrated.
The Radkova witch tossed and turned in Stefan's bed for the millionth time that morning before she groaned when she heard the bedroom door open. "I'm fine, Damon," the blonde teenager mumbled into her boyfriend's warm pillow as she figured that he was coming to check up on her again.
"Thank God I'm not Damon, then," the familiar voice of the Forbes vampire muttered as she and Bonnie came walking into the younger Salvatore vampire's bedroom with a black plastic bag in Caroline's hand and stack of a books and papers in the Bennett witch's hands. Caroline loudly clapped her hands together as she jumped onto Stefan's king sized bed. "It's time to get up!" The Forbes vampire exclaimed as she pulled the blanket away from Emily's face.
The Radkova witch groaned when the sun shined onto her face before she tried to pull the warm blanket back over her face but it was no use against a vampire's strength. "Let me wither away," Emily mumbled as she flopped back down onto the soft pillow.
"I know you feel like your life is falling apart right now but you can't stay in bed all day," the Forbes vampire softly murmured as she gently rubbed her cold palm up and down across Emily's warm arm as she laid next to her best friend.
"You know Stefan nor Elena would want you to do that," the Bennett witch added as she placed her stack of the books and papers down onto the wooden dresser before Bonnie joined the two supernatural beings on the large bed as she laid down on the other side of Emily.
"Besides, we brought a present!" Caroline excitedly exclaimed before she hurriedly sat up in the large bed. The Forbes vampire grabbed the black plastic bag that she had placed on the ground before she had joined Emily on the bed. Caroline flipped the plastic bag over and emptied it out in her previous spot with a wide grin playing on her lips.
Emily grew curious at the noise and from Caroline's excitement, so she sat up in her boyfriend's king sized bed before she furrowed her brows at what she saw. The Radkova witch picked up the small box before she puzzledly inquired, "hair dye? What's this for?"
"We know you've been beating yourself up over what you did while you were in an emotionless state," the Bennett witch mentioned before she inquired, "we thought we could help you get back to your old self, so why not start off with your hair?"
"I personally love the blonde," Caroline teasingly exclaimed with a wide grin playing on her face. "But some people just can't handle the blonde," the Forbes vampire joked as she tossed her blonde hair over her shoulder.
The vampire and the two witches chuckled at Caroline's antics for a couple of minutes before Bonnie grew serious as she looked over at the new witch. "In all seriousness," the Bennett witch began as she lightly touched Emily's wrist before she murmured, "it might help you heal if you went back to brown hair since you had the blonde when you went through your emotionless period."
Emily knew Bonnie was right. She had started doing all those horrible things to the people around her and even strangers after she had changed up her look. Emily knew changing her hair color wasn't going to completely heal her but Emily knew it would help her move forward and it was the right direction that she needed to go right now if she ever wanted to be happy again.
"Okay," Emily quietly murmured while she glanced between the Forbes vampire and the Bennett witch as she agreed with their plan.
"Yay!" Caroline cheered before she excitedly grabbed the box of hair dye from the Radkova witch's hands. "Okay, so, you change shirts first or this could get messy," the Forbes vampire told Emily as she began to read the directions on the box of the brown hair dye.
The Bennett witch lightly chuckled at Caroline's excitement before she collected the gloves, the plastic bowl, and the brush from the large bed. "We'll be in the bathroom when you're ready," Bonnie told the new witch before she grabbed Caroline's hand and pulled her down the hallway to the bathroom so they could get set up to dye Emily's hair.
Once the Radkova witch was alone, Emily released a heavy sigh before she sluggishly pushed herself out of her boyfriend's bed for the first time since nine this morning. Emily stretched out her sore body before she headed over to Stefan's closet.
Emily grabbed one of the many black shirts hanging up in her boyfriend's closet encase Caroline ended up staining the shirt with the brown dye. The Radkova witch slipped out of her lavender pajama top before she pulled on her boyfriend's black t-shirt over her body.
Emily heavily sighed when she was immediately encased in her boyfriend's scent. God, I miss you, the blonde teenager thought to herself as she brought the large t-shirt up to her face and smelled Stefan's comforting and home-like scent. Please, come home, Emily silently begged before she hurriedly wiped the warm tears that she hadn't even realized were falling down her cheeks.
Emily took a shaky deep breath as she tried to calm herself down before she headed out of her boyfriend's bedroom and down to the bathroom. The Radkova witch silently walked into the bathroom and found Caroline putting on a pair of gloves and Bonnie mixing the brown dye in a plastic bowl.
The Forbes vampire was the one that noticed Emily in the doorway of the bathroom. "Come! Come in!" Caroline excitedly exclaimed as she grabbed the Radkova witch's hand before she led Emily over to the wooden chair in the middle of the bathroom in front of the large mirror that was connected with the sink. "Let's get started!" Caroline cheered as she excitedly clapped her plastic gloved hands together.
"Relax, Care," the Bennett witch uttered with an amused chuckle as she watched the blonde vampire practically jump around. "I know you're excited but we gotta take our time with this or we'll mess it up," Bonnie reminded the Forbes vampire.
Caroline looked over to the Bennett witch with a deep pout but, sadly, she knew Bonnie was right. The last thing she wanted to do was mess up Emily's hair when she was just trying to help her best friend. "Fine," the Forbes vampire mumbled as she grabbed ahold of Emily's hairbrush from on top of the sink before she slowly began to run the brush through Emily's platinum blonde hair to get rid of her bedhead and the tangles.
Bonnie briefly glanced up from the bowl of hair dye that she was mixing up and over to Emily before she gently inquired, "how are you feeling today?"
The Radkova witch lightly shrugged her shoulders - as to not mess up Caroline as she brushed her hair. "Well, the world is constantly falling a part around me, so I wouldn't say I'm doing that well," Emily muttered with a light joking tone to her voice.
"It'll get better," Bonnie quickly assured her best friend as she shot Emily a small smile. "What are you most worried about right now?" The Bennett witch asked as she tried her best to figure out an answer to Emily's worries as to help her feel better after everything that had happened to the new witch.
Emily briefly flinched when she felt Caroline lather a gallop of brown hair dye onto her head without any warning before the Radkova witch quickly focused back onto Bonnie through the mirror. "It would be better to ask what I'm not worried about," Emily muttered with a sarcastic chuckle. "I'm worried about Stefan when I have no idea where he is or what Klaus is doing to him," Emily finally ranted about what was bothering her, "and that's on top of being some Protector of the Innocence."
The Radkova witch released a heavy sigh before she exclaimed with anxiety all throughout her voice, "everyone is counting on me to be this important witch when I have no idea what the hell I'm even doing!" Emily crossed her arms over her chest as she mumbled, "like what's the point? At least in bed, I can hide away from my problems."
The Bennett witch looked at her best friend with sadness in her brown irises. "You know that's not how it works," Bonnie softly told the new witch as she helped Caroline lather on the brown dye onto Emily's platinum blonde hair. "All those problems will still be there no matter how long you hide away in bed," the Bennett witch reminded Emily.
"You're not alone in this," Caroline swiftly jumped into the conversation as she assured her best friend while she ran her fingers though Emily's now brunette hair as she worked in the dark hair dye. "We'll always help and be there for you. We'll figure this out all together," the Forbes vampire promised.
The Radkova witch briefly closed her green eyes as she released another heavy sigh before Emily quietly murmured, "thank you," as she connected her gaze with her two best friends through the mirror. "It's just a lot to deal with," Emily stated, "I think I'm putting too much pressure on myself to fix everything that's happening."
"Well, let's just take it one step at a time, then," the Bennett witch calmly told her best friend. "We know you can't do anything on the Stefan front right now when Klaus thinks you're dead," Bonnie mentioned before she advised, "so, why don't we focus on the witch part. I can even help you every step of the way."
Emily anxiously bit down on her bottom lip as she thought about her witch self. The whole being a witch concept scared Emily because the last time she focused on that part of her, she almost immediately turned emotionless and started hurting the people around her - and that was the last thing Emily wanted to do again.
The Forbes vampire could tell that Emily was mentally struggling with the whole witch situation, so she quickly exclaimed as she assured her best friend, "we don't have to worry about that right now!" Caroline gently patted the Radkova witch's wet and brown head with her stained plastic glove as she murmured, "let's just focus on your hair."
Caroline glanced down to her rose gold watch on her wrist before she stated, "we have thirty minutes before you're officially back to being a brunette." The Forbes vampire shot Emily a wide grin as she leaned back against the sink in front of the young witch before she jokingly asked, "did you enjoy your stint as a blonde?"
Emily lightly chuckled at the Forbes vampire's innocent question before she halfheartedly joked, "well, I did hurt people as a blonde, so it wasn't exactly a good experience." The Radkova witch quickly added when Bonnie glared at her from her dark humor, "but I did really like the color."
"We would be too powerful if there was two blondes in our group," the Forbes vampire teasingly exclaimed before she playfully tossed her long, blonde hair over her shoulder.
The two witches both chuckled together at Caroline's antics before Emily assured her best friends, "I'm perfectly fine being a brunette." Emily did actually like being a blonde. It was nice color and it gave her a fresh start. However, Emily connected all of the horrible things that she did to the people around her to the platinum blonde hair that she had, so Emily certainly didn't want to go back to that period in her life any time soon.
"Well, as a brunette myself, I'm happy to have you back," the Bennett witch murmured with a teasing grin before she carefully wrapped her arms around Emily's shoulder for a hug while she tried to avoid touching any of the wet, brown hair dye.
"Happy to be back," the Radkova witch shortly replied with a nervous smile across her face. Emily was still so nervous about getting back to her normal life now that she was a witch. Emily just didn't want to disappoint any of her loved ones - that was Emily's worst fear at the moment. Emily knew there were so many people counting on her to be this Protector of the Innocence. Emily was worried that she wasn't going to live up to what Deaton had mentioned to her and from what she knew from Maria and Darina.
The young witch was honestly scared out of her mind about her witchy future. Emily was, of course, worried that she would hurt someone again with her magic but she was also afraid that she was going to be a major failure. What if she couldn't do any spells right? What if she did the wrong one? What if she can't save someone with her magic? Worst of all, what if she killed someone?
The Radkova witch flinched as she was suddenly pulled out of her worries and thoughts when Caroline loudly clapped her hands together. "It's time!" The Forbes vampire cheerfully exclaimed before she swiftly grabbed ahold of Emily's wrist and started pulling the Radkova witch over to the large bathtub to rinse out the brown hair dye.
"I'll go get a new shirt and a towel," Bonnie stated while the Forbes vampire turned on the bathtub faucet before the Bennett witch quickly rushed out of the bathroom.
Caroline made sure the water wasn't too hot and not too cold before she excitedly turned to the Radkova witch and loudly cheered, "let's get this party started!"
Emily released an amused chuckle as she watched as the Forbes vampire was practically bouncing with excitement over something as simple as her going back to being a brunette. "It's not that serious, Care," the Radkova witch told her best friend. If anything, the action of dying her hair back seemed like such a boring task to Emily.
"Of course it is!" The Forbes vampire yelped as if Emily had just offended her. "You just turned into a freaking witch!" Caroline loudly exclaimed as she threw her arms in the air. "This is the beginning of a new journey in your life," the Forbes vampire softly murmured as she stared across at the new witch, "you're going to get to experience new things for the first time and that's really exciting!"
"Huh," the Radkova witch mumbled before she stated, "I never thought about it like that." Emily reached over and gently squeezed the Forbes vampire's wrist before she praised the blonde, "thank you, Care. Thank you for helping me with this."
"I always got your back," Caroline exclaimed with a wide grin stretched across her face. The two supernatural beings shared a small chuckle together before Caroline clapped her hands together as she asked with that same wide grin, "so, are you ready to get started?"
Emily smiled softly across at her best friend as she nodded her head and murmured a quiet, "yeah." The Radkova witch then gently dropped down to her knees in front of the bathtub to get the dye out of her hair and to officially go back to being a brunette and to start this new journey in her life.
The Forbes vampire was immediately ready for Emily after she had slipped on a new pair of gloves as she helped Emily flip her dyed hair over the edge of the bathtub before she started to softly rub her fingers through Emily's hair as she washed out the excess brown hair dye. "I really hope hair dye doesn't stain this bathtub or Damon isn't gonna be happy," Caroline mumbled as she watched the brown dye splatter all over the insides of the white bathtub.
The blonde vampire continued to run her fingers through Emily's hair for another five minutes or so until the water coming from the young witch's hair was clear. Caroline turned off the facet and started wringing the water from Emily's hair before she heard footsteps behind her. The Forbes vampire glanced over her shoulder before she grinned when she saw Bonnie and exclaimed, "you're just in time!"
The Bennett witch chuckled as she handed Caroline the black towel that she had gotten out of the dryer down in the basement while in her other hand, Bonnie held onto the light blue sweater that she had gotten out of Emily's bedroom in the Salvatore boarding house.
Bonnie thought it would be best for the new witch to not be completely surrounded by Stefan's things like his clothes that she had been previously wearing or Emily would just continue to be sad about the younger Salvatore being gone.
Caroline helped the new witch stand up from the floor of the bathroom while she kept the black towel wrapped around her wet, brunette hair. Once the Forbes vampire had Emily standing up straight, Caroline rubbed each section of the new witch's hair through the towel as she absorbed as much water as she could. Caroline made sure no water was dripping from Emily's hair before she removed the towel from the young witch's head and happily exclaimed, "ta-da!"
Emily released a small, amused chuckle as she stared across at the blonde vampire and her usual happy attitude - something Emily greatly missed over the past few days when she wasn't herself. The Radkova witch squeezed Caroline's hand as a small thank you before she slowly headed over to the sink and to the large mirror. Emily released a heavy breath when she looked up at her reflection and saw her newly dyed brown hair.
"How do you feel?" The Bennett witch gently inquired as she and Caroline walked onto either side of Emily as to let her know that she wasn't alone and that they were here for her.
Emily didn't immediately respond as she stood in complete silence while she continued to stare at her brunette hair through the mirror. It took the Radkova witch a good two or three minutes before Emily finally nodded her head. "I needed this," Emily gently murmured as she lightly ran her fingers through her new hair.
Emily knew realistically that dying her hair wouldn't be a big thing for everyone but for her, it was a big deal. It meant that she wouldn't be connected to those days that she was hurting the people around her. It meant that she could slowly heal from the things that she did and all the things that she tried to push away without her emotions. It meant that she could go back to the old Emily Gilbert, who took care and protected her loved ones with her life, and that was what the young witch needed right now.
Emily turned around from in front of the mirror before she faced her two best friends with a small smile spread across her face. "Thank you," the Radkova witch murmured as she glanced between Caroline and Bonnie, "really, thank you for doing this for me and helping me."
The Bennett witch lightly waved her hand as a wide smile shinned across her lips from the fact that Emily was slowly healing and getting better. "It was no problem," Bonnie told the young witch, "we were happy to help."
"Group hug!" Caroline suddenly squealed before she quickly pulled the two witches into a tight hug. However, the Forbes vampire swiftly pulled away a few seconds later with a loud groan. Caroline looked down to her hand before she saw that the hair dye from the back of Emily's shirt was all over her palm.
"Sorry about that," Emily uttered with a chuckle in amusement as she watched as the Forbes vampire hurriedly ran her hand underneath the sink before she roughly started to scrub the brown hair dye off of her hand as if it was burning her.
"Oh!" The Bennett witch gasped as she had completely forgotten about the top that she had in her hand this whole time. "Here," Bonnie uttered as she held out Emily's light blue sweater to the young witch.
"Thanks," Emily praised the Bennett witch as she grabbed the light blue sweater before Emily headed back to Stefan's bedroom to change. Once back into her boyfriend's bedroom, the Radkova witch carefully took off the wet shirt that had hair dye and water all over it before she tossed it into the laundry basket. Emily then grabbed ahold of the light blue sweater that Bonnie had picked out for her before the young witch slipped it over her body.
The Radkova witch slowly walked up to the full length mirror in the corner of Stefan's bedroom before she gently ran her fingers through her brunette mane. Emily softly smiled at her reflection as she stared at her new (or old) hair color.
Emily honestly just felt so refreshed and relieved to have her old look back. It made Emily feel like before everything started going downhill in Mystic Falls. The Radkova witch knew everything was far from perfect with her twin sister still dead, her boyfriend with Klaus, and all of these powers running through her veins but Emily truly felt like this was a new start for her. Emily felt deep inside of her that this would help her begin this new journey in her life.
The Radkova witch's thoughts were soon interrupted when Emily heard a soft knock on Stefan's bedroom door. Emily quickly twirled around before she relaxed when she saw Caroline and Bonnie standing in the doorway. "Hey," Emily called out with confusion in her voice as to why they were approaching her right now. Had she really been wrapped into her thoughts for so long or was something wrong?
"I'm sorry but I have to get going," Caroline apologized with a deep pout settled onto her lips as she stepped into the younger Salvatore's bedroom. "My mom needs me down at the station," the Forbes vampire explained.
Emily quickly waved her hand at her blonde best friend. "It's okay. I understand," the Radkova witch assured Caroline when she could see the guilt in the vampire's blue eyes.
The Forbes vampire released a sigh of relief before she grinned widely at the new witch. "Thank you," Caroline murmured before she pulled Emily into a tight hug. "I'm so happy you're back," the blonde vampire softly uttered against Emily's temple, "if you ever need me for anything, I'm just a call away and I'll be here in a second."
The Radkova witch tightly squeezed her arms around Caroline's waist before she murmured against the taller girl's chest, "thank you." Emily slowly pulled back from Caroline's comforting embrace as she knew Caroline needed to get going before she told the Forbes vampire, "I'll see you later."
"You will," Caroline promised with a grin before the Forbes vampire walked over to the Bennett witch. "If something happens, let me know," Caroline requested. Caroline knew Emily would be okay when she was such a strong person but a little part of her was still worried about the young witch.
"I will," Bonnie quickly promised before the Forbes vampire pulled her into a short hug as well.
"Be good, guys!" Caroline called out to her best friends before she quickly left the younger Salvatore's bedroom and left the boarding house.
The two witches watched Caroline leave before Emily turned around and headed back to her boyfriend's bed. However, instead of getting inside of it like she had been doing all day, Emily grabbed the banana on the bedside table before she took a bite. Progress, the Radkova witch told herself from the fact that she didn't immediately throw herself back under the comfort of Stefan's blanket and back to that depressed and guilty hold that she had been under since Katherine left early this morning.
"Hey," Bonnie softly called out after she had picked up the stack of books that she had originally brought with her to the Salvatore boarding house. The Bennett witch waited until Emily had turned around from in front of Stefan's bed before Bonnie uttered as she held the stack of printed papers and a few books in her arms, "Deaton emailed me some things about the Protectors of the Innocence. I printed them out for you and I also brought over some books that Grams had me study when I was first understanding my magic."
The Bennett witch shot Emily a soft look as she knew that the brunette girl wasn't exactly jumping to do magic before she gently uttered, "I know you are on the fence about working on your abilities but Deaton said it would be good to start off slowly to build up your magic." Bonnie held up her free left hand as she assured her best friend that she wasn't pressuring her, "if you're not ready yet, then that's perfectly fine."
The Bennett witch gently placed the books and papers down onto Stefan's bed before she looked back at Emily and murmured, "I just wanted you to have them for whenever you do decide that you're ready to dig into your witch side."
Emily stared across at the Bennett witch for a moment before she turned her gaze down to the books on her boyfriend's bed. Emily was honestly scared to even attempt any sort of magic but she knew that wasn't what she was supposed to do. Emily knew that Maria didn't pick her to be the last Radkova witch for nothing. It would be a waste of all of those powers - despite how scared she was of the magic running through her veins.
Emily briefly closed her green eyes as she took a shaky breath before she finally came to a decision. "Do you... Do you think you could help me go over a spell to just try?" The Radkova witch timidly asked Bonnie as she nervously reached out and ran her point finger over the edge of the stacks of papers that held the knowledge that she needed to be the Protector of the Innocence.
A wide and bright smile instantly lifted onto Bonnie's face from the young witch's words as she was glad that Emily was getting her witch side a chance. "I would love to," Bonnie assured her best friend once Emily had turned around and faced her.
"Um, Maria's - I mean my grimoire is in my bedroom." the young witch nervously muttered. "I haven't even touched the thing since everything started happening," Emily mumbled with a small chuckle as she anxiously played with her fingers.
"That's okay," the Bennett witch assured Emily with a soft smile. Bonnie grabbed ahold of the stack of papers and books that she had brought for the young witch before Bonnie murmured, "let's go take a look."
Emily released a heavy and nervous breath before she silently nodded her head. The Radkova witch led Bonnie across the hallway to her bedroom at the Salvatore boarding house. Emily continued to walk across her bedroom and walked into her closet before she squeezed through her clothes and grabbed the grimoire that she had hid ever since Elijah gave it to her. The young witch brought the book of magic with her as she exited out of the closet before she joined Bonnie on top of her queen sized bed.
Bonnie shot the young witch a soft smile before she murmured as she gently opened the Radkova coven grimoire, "let's take a look." The Bennett witch was extremely gentle while she flipped the pages as she searched for an easy spell for Emily to begin with. Bonnie flipped through a few pages before she stopped when a simple spell caught her attention.
"How about this one?" Bonnie inquired as she pointed her finger towards the spell. "It's one of the easier ones I learned in the beginning," the Bennett witch promised when she noticed Emily's worried gaze before she explained, "all you are doing is conjuring fire with your hands."
Emily nervously bit down on her bottom lip as she stared down at the fire conjuring spell in the Radkova grimoire before she looked up at Bonnie and quietly inquired, "what do I have to do?"
The Bennett witch clapped her hands together before she explained to Emily the main points of doing a spell, "okay, so one of the important parts of doing any type of spell, is that you have to believe and imagine that you can do it. The actual spell is also important but if you can't imagine it, then it just won't happen."
Bonnie waited until the young witch gave an indication that she was following along and Emily quickly did as she nodded her head before Bonnie moved onto the actual spell. "First, hold out your hand," the Bennett witch instructed as she held out her hand as well with her palm towards the ceiling.
Bonnie waited until the young witch had matched her movements before the Bennett witch ordered, "now, zero onto your fingertips. Imagine the heat of a candle. Imagine the sway of a small flame. Imagine that warmness surrounding your palm." Bonnie grinned to herself when fire lit up her palm before she looked over to the young witch.
"It'll get easier the more you work on it," Bonnie quickly assured the young witch, who looked frustrated and saddened when she didn't have a flame. "At the beginning, you should also say the incantation as well until you get used to the spell," Bonnie stated as she had to remember that Emily wasn't as advanced as she was.
"All you have to say is 'phasmatos incendia,'" the Bennett witch instructed, "just feel and imagine the heat on your fingers while you slowly pronounce it."
Emily released a deep breath as she nodded her head before she did what Bonnie told her to do. The young witch stared down at her hand as she imagined the flames dancing on the palm of her hand. Emily imagined the feeling of the warm fire before she slowly uttered, "phasmatos incendia... Phasmatos incendia... Phasmatos incendia."
"Oh!" The Radkova witch gasped when she actually saw fire swaying across her palm like she had imagined it.
"See!" Bonnie happily cheered when she saw that the young witch had completed the spell correctly. "You did i-" Bonnie had began before her brown eyes widened when she saw the fire disappear and small pieces of ice stick out from Emily's fingertips.
Emily huffed out a heavy sigh as she stared down at the ice that she remembered from when she was hurting people. "This happened before," the Radkova witch informed the shocked Bonnie, "when I was emotionless, my body would produce ice to attack."
Emily focused her gaze back onto the small icy tips before she watched a longer icicle shoot out of her palm. The Radkova witch held the icicle between her fingers before she looked up at Bonnie and inquired, "have you ever heard of a witch producing ice like some kind of villain?"
The Bennett witch furrowed her brows as she leaned over and lightly touched the frozen icicle. "I haven't," Bonnie mumbled before she added when she remembered all information that the druid had sent her, "but maybe Deaton does."
Bonnie grabbed the stack of papers that she had put together of all the things that Deaton had emailed her and placed it in the middle of Emily's bed before she began to search for anything that had to deal with ice. It took Bonnie a good three minutes or so before she gasped as she pointed at one of the pages.
"Here it is," Bonnie murmured as she read over the words to herself before she explained it to the new witch, "it says here that the Radkova coven were known to use ice over fire since it kept them grounded to the Earth and it was much more safer to use during the practice of building up the Protectors of the Innocence name."
The Bennett witch read a little bit more to herself before Bonnie added, "it says here that only a few Radkova witches were able to use both fire and ice if they were strong enough to find the balance between the two."
Emily honestly hated the ice part of her powers. It reminded her of all of the horrible things that she did when she wasn't in her right mind. Emily was scared that she was going to hurt someone again if she had to use these ice powers of hers.
Bonnie could see the young witch's inner struggles about her ice powers by how anxious Emily had been when she had first produced the icicle and from Emily's story about when she was emotionless. "Why don't we build up your fire powers?" Bonnie suggested. "I think since you're the last Radkova witch, then you will be strong enough to control the balance between the fire and ice," the Bennett witch commented.
Emily knew that she needed to find out how she can control the ice from appearing without her wanting it if she ever wanted to feel safe within her powers, so Emily silently nodded her head in agreement. "Okay," the Radkova witch mumbled before she asked with determination in her green eyes, "how do we control it?"
"We'll do the same incantation again but you need to try to fight the ice and anything that reminds you of coldness," Bonnie explained. "Let's do it a few times and see how long you can hold it off," the Bennett witch instructed.
Emily nodded her head in agreement before she released a heavy breath as she prepared herself to control her icy powers. The Radkova witch focused her green eyes down onto her palm as she was ready to get started. Warm, fire, flame, Emily thought over and over again as she stared at her fingertips and imagined the fire.
"Phasmatos incendia," the new witch whispered as she kept her thoughts all about the fire and heat. Emily only had to utter the incantation twice before a large flame swiftly took over her palm.
"Okay, good!" Bonnie cheered when she saw the flame light up the young witch's hand. "Just think about the fire," the Bennett witch gently instructed Emily as kept her gaze onto the flickering flame, "just think about what it makes you feel."
Emily silently nodded her head before she started thinking about how warm her hand felt and how the flame reminded her of a deep sunset. However, the Radkova witch soon frowned when the fire suddenly disappeared and freezing ice took over her hand.
"It's okay!" Bonnie quickly assured the young witch when she saw how disheartened Emily got. "It lasted longer than the first time," the Bennett witch uttered with a grin as she placed a gentle hand onto Emily's thigh, "so, it's progress!"
Emily released a heavy sigh as she did feel a little disappointed. However, Emily just had to remind herself that this could take a while since not every Radkova witch could even master this. Emily wasn't going to give up, though. It just wasn't in her to do so. "Let's go again," Emily uttered as she looked across at her best friend.
"Are you sure?" Bonnie inquired with brows furrowed in worry. The Bennett witch was happy that Emily wanted to focus on her magic but she just didn't want the new witch to push herself too much that she could hurt herself.
The Radkova witch instantly nodded her head in determination before she swiped the melted ice from her palm onto her lavender pajama pants. Emily focused back on her palm once again she thought about that flame and warmness that came with it. The new witch did the steps all over again as she focused all of her attention on conjuring that flame.
Emily only had to say the incantation once before the flame swiftly took over her palm. A light smile lifted up Emily's face before she quickly focused back onto thinking about the flame and the warmness on her palm as she tried to keep the fire lit and the ice away.
The Bennett witch kept her gaze locked onto Emily's flame as she quietly cheered, "come on, come on, come on." Bonnie grinned to herself when she noticed the young witch's flame was lasting longer than the last time.
The flame lasted for over a full two minutes before, of course, ice took over Emily's palm. The Radkova witch released a heavy sigh and slumped her shoulders as the spell took a lot out of her from trying to control both the fire and ice. "How was that?" Emily inquired as she looked over at Bonnie while she tried to get control of her breathing.
"Way over two minutes!" The Bennett witch excitedly cheered for her best friend. It went way over Emily's first attempt which had only been fifteen seconds.
Emily immediately frowned when she heard the time. "That's not good enough," the Radkova witch muttered as she wasn't happy that she was only able to hold the ice at bay for two minutes. If Emily was ever going to be able to protect her loved ones then she needed to go way longer than that. The new witch wiped the sweat from her brow before she muttered, "let's go again."
Bonnie furrowed her brows in worry at the fact that Emily wanted to get right back into it. "Are you sure?" The Bennett witch inquired before she reminded the brunette girl, "you don't have to push yourself so hard. This is only your first day of building up your magic."
Emily shook of Bonnie's worries as she stated with determination, "I'm sure." The Radkova witch then focused back onto her palm and thought about the heat and the warmness all over again.
Over the next hour and a half, Emily continued to conjure the flame over and over again. Every single time, the Radkova witch went further of keeping the ice at bay and that made Emily want to keep trying and trying until she had full control over the fire and ice.
"We should call it a day," Bonnie finally told the Radkova witch after she noticed Emily was having a hard time catching her breath and from the way her palm was shaking. Bonnie gently covered Emily's palm with her hand and squeezed it with a gentle smile. "You did such a good job today," Bonnie complimented the young witch.
Emily released a heavy and deep breath as she tried to get control of her breathing. "Thanks," the Radkova witch mumbled as she wiped the sweat from her forehead before she looked across at Bonnie with a small smile. "Really, thank you, Bon Bon," the new witch told her best friend, "thank you for being patient with me and helping me through this. It means a lot to me."
"Of course!" Bonnie murmured with a wide grin spread across her face. "I'm happy to help," the Bennett witch told Emily before she joked, "I'm just glad I'll finally know another witch, who understands what I have to go through."
The two witches chuckled together at Bonnie's joke before Emily pulled her best friend into a tight hug. "Thank you," the Radkova witch whispered as she praised Bonnie once more for all of her help.
Emily honestly felt like a weight was lifted off of her shoulders from actually working and building up her magic, despite how afraid she originally had been about her powers. Emily knew it was only one simple spell but it made Emily feel good doing it. It made Emily realize that she didn't have to be scared of the magic running through her veins.
Emily knew she still had a long way from being that Protector of the Innocence, who everyone expects her to be but as of right now, Emily felt excited for this new journey in her life as the last living Radkova witch.
