The Radkova witch's side effects had been getting a lot worse over the past few days since her little episode in front of Elena at their twin night. It was starting to happen in public, too, which Emily wasn't exactly thrilled about when she was trying to hide these episodes from her loved ones.
The last one Emily had was yesterday afternoon at school and she was, once again, almost caught by Elena. The Gilbert twins had been walking to class after their lunch period when another episode flared.
Emily wasn't sure how it even happened. One second she was talking to Elena about hanging out at the grill later and then the bell rang before Emily found herself in another trance. Emily could only remember seeing a wolf-like shadow around the corner of the lockers before everything just went blank.
Emily wasn't sure how long her twin sister shook her for but it had to be at least a couple of minutes from how worried Elena had been staring at her. It took Emily probably twice as long for her to convince Elena that she was okay.
Emily, of course, had to lie to her twin sister once again for her strange behavior. The Gilbert girl's lie wasn't as big as she told Elena that she didn't sleep well. Emily was having issues sleeping but that wasn't why she was in a trance. Emily was thankful that Elena believed her but that didn't stop the human girl from keeping an eye on Emily for the rest of the day.
One of the other big side effects that the Radkova witch had been dealing with a lot lately was nightmares. In the last week, Emily had woken up screaming her lungs out three times. The nightmares was an easier side effect to lie about since their daily lives seemed like they belonged in a horror film.
It was a Saturday morning when Emily decided that she would call the druid of Beacon Hills to see if Deaton had found any solutions for her side effects yet. The last time the young witch talked to Deaton was a week ago and Deaton promised that he would look into any spells or potions that would be able to help her. Emily really hoped the druid found something useful.
The Radkova witch didn't want any vampire or any noisy human (Elena) to hear her conversation with the druid, so Emily secretly borrowed Jenna's Honda and headed to the old Fell's Church. Emily knew no one ever came out here anymore. She didn't think anyone has been out here since before Klaus arrived in Mystic Falls.
The only reason people would come out this far out of town is for a spell or to go inside of the tomb. Emily knew she would be safe from running into any unfamiliar vampires with Katherine, Klaus, and Elijah out of Mystic Falls for the time being.
The Gilbert girl grabbed her laptop and her cell phone from the passenger seat before Emily stepped foot on the place where the Fell's Church used to stand. Emily scanned the area for a few seconds before she found a large oak tree a few yards in front of her. Emily walked up to the tree before she sat underneath it, so she would have some shade to see her laptop screen.
Emily placed her laptop on her thighs and opened it up before she logged into her account. The young witch moved her curser over to the blue Skype icon before she went to her recent calls. Emily pressed on the first name before her laptop started to ring as she called the druid from Beacon Hills.
The Gilbert girl only had to wait for three rings before Deaton's kind face appeared on her laptop screen. Emily immediately noticed that Deaton was at the familiar animal clinic. Emily figured someone had an accident with their animal since Deaton was rarely at work on Saturdays.
"Emily, hello," the druid greeted the young witch with a soft smile on his face.
The Gilbert girl lightly waved her hand as she smiled back at the older man. "Good morning," Emily murmured as she greeted the druid.
Deaton briefly stood up from his desk and walked over to the filing cabinet behind him. Deaton used the key from his white veterinarian coat to unlock it before he grabbed a black journal from inside that held all of Deaton's notes about the Radkova witch's condition. "How are you doing today?" The druid asked Emily once he sat back down at his desk, "how would you rate your morning?"
Emily lightly shrugged her right shoulder. "It's still pretty early, so anything could happen," the Gilbert girl joked before she quickly grew serious as Emily released a heavy sigh. "I called because I'm worried," the Radkova witch admitted.
Deaton quickly placed down his pen before he focused his brown gaze onto his computer screen. "What's wrong?" The druid worriedly asked the young witch, "did something happen?"
"It's not just one thing," Emily stated as she shook her head. "It feels like everything keeps coming right after another," the Radkova witch mumbled before she began ranting without realizing it, "I feel like I'm always on edge. I don't want to worry my family and friends or for them to find out what's going on, so I feel like I'm constantly lying. On top of all of that, I don't even know if I'm dreaming or awake half the time!"
"Hey, hey, hey," Deaton quickly murmured when he noticed that the young witch was getting worked up. "Let's just calm down and take it one step at a time," the druid softly suggested as he tried to calm the Gilbert girl down.
Emily closed her green eyes and forcefully took a deep breath. The Gilbert girl took three deep breaths until she felt her heartbeat relax before Emily opened her eyes and looked at the druid. Emily gave the veterinarian a small nod to let Deaton know that she was okay.
"Good," Deaton complimented the Radkova witch for listening before he advised, "now, let's start at the beginning." The druid picked up his pen from his desk before Deaton gently asked in a soothing voice, "what's been bothering you the most?"
"It's the hallucinations," Emily mumbled as she brushed a portion of her brunette hair behind her right ear. "They are happening more frequently now," the young witch admitted to the druid.
"What have you been seeing?" Deaton asked after he quickly scribbled a few words in the journal.
"It's always the same thing," the Gilbert girl muttered as she leaned her back against the large oak tree. "It's like this huge shadow of a monster or a beast," Emily recalled, "and it always seems to be calling out to me."
"Does it ever speak to you?" The druid of Beacon Hills curiously inquired.
"No," the Gilbert girl denied before she explained, "but I think it knows I'm there. It's always staring down at me and when I get closer, it gets angry, I think." Emily shook her head as she stated, "I know it might sound crazy but I swear I can feel it's breath against my ear."
Deaton silently nodded his head as he quickly jotted down what the Radkova witch was telling him before Deaton focused back onto his computer screen. "Has these hallucinations ever left any real effects?" Deaton inquired before he clarified, "any bruises or marks?"
The Radkova witch released a heavy sigh as she nodded her head. Emily pushed the side of her leather jacket to the side to expose her left shoulder. Emily closer to her laptop screen and slightly turned to the side before she showed Deaton the claw mark on her skin.
"It appeared last night," Emily mumbled as she gently ran her point finger across the reddened claw mark. It gave Emily quite the scare when it happened after her shower. Emily had been brushing her hair through the mirror when she got locked in a trance with her reflection. The Gilbert girl had practically felt the claws on her shoulder when the mark appeared on her skin.
Deaton looked very closely at the mark on the Gilbert girl's shoulder before he commented with his brows slightly furrowed, "it looks very similar to a werewolf scratch."
Emily placed her leather jacket back on her shoulder as she quietly recalled, "it always feels like it's calling out to me, like it needs me."
Deaton slowly shook his head in confusion. "I've never heard of this happening before," the druid admitted and quickly promised before the Gilbert girl could become even more worried, "but I will look into it."
"Thanks," Emily praised the druid before she released a heavy sigh. The Gilbert girl wasn't really thrilled that Deaton didn't know what these hallucinations meant but Emily trusted Deaton to find out. It seemed like druids knew practically everything in the supernatural handbook.
"How have you been sleeping lately?" Deaton inquired as he moved on to another one of the Radkova witch's current worries.
Emily couldn't help herself from releasing a humorless chuckle. "I wouldn't exactly call it good," the Gilbert girl muttered before she explained to the druid, "half the time it takes me forever to shut off my brain and then when I do, I end up waking up screaming a few hours later."
"Do you think it's caused by having nightmares?" Deaton asked while he quickly wrote down a few more notes.
"Yeah, definitely," the Gilbert girl agreed as she nodded her head. "It's always that stupid wolf or whatever it is," Emily mumbled, "it's like I can't escape it no matter what I do." The Radkova witch released a heavy sigh before she added, "it's getting harder and harder to explain to Elena when she wakes me up from screaming almost every night."
"Hmm..." Deaton murmured to himself as he absorbed what the young witch was telling him. "I could send you a prescription for a sleeping aide," the druid offered before he stated with a slight shrug, "they should be able to help you get a few more hours of sleep."
The Gilbert girl rose an amused eyebrow at the druid. "How can you get your hands on sleeping pills?" Emily questioned with a teasing smirk playing on her lips before she commented, "I thought you only take care of animals."
Deaton released a light chuckle before he nodded his head. "I do," the druid affirmed before he stated, "but I have my ways."
Emily giggled as she raised up her hands in innocence. "Alright, alright. I believe you," the Gilbert girl murmured with a grin on her face before she quickly grew serious. "If you can get your hands on the pills, then I'll take them," Emily told the druid before she mumbled, "I would love to get more than three hours of sleep."
"I should be able to get some Estazolam pretty quickly," Deaton stated before he promised, "I'll sent it right your way as soon as I can. It should arrive sometime around Tuesday afternoon."
The Gilbert girl silently nodded her head before she grabbed her cell phone and quickly put in 'Deaton Delivery' in her calendar for Tuesday, so no one (Damon) tried to open her package. "Thanks again, Deaton, really," the Radkova witch praised the older man once she focused her gaze back onto her laptop screen. "I really hope this helps with the nightmares," Emily mumbled.
"We'll keep an eye on it," the druid promised the young witch. "If you ever aren't feeling like yourself or if you feel like the medication is effecting you any way, please give me a call," Deaton requested before he vowed, "we'll figure it out together."
"I will," Emily immediately assured the druid. "I could email you in the mornings and describe how I slept with you would like," the Radkova witch suggested.
Deaton nodded his head in agreement. "That should work perfectly," the druid stated.
The Radkova witch figured that would be for the best. Emily would forget about each night by the time she spoke to Deaton since she only talks to him once a week. Maybe I should get a journal, the Gilbert girl silently thought. It would be way easier to keep track of her sleeping patterns, then.
"I know you may be having a rough few days," Deaton began as he interrupted the silence that had settled behind them before the druid told the Gilbert girl, "but I think I might have something to brighten your mood."
"Oh?" Emily curiously asked as she raised up her right eyebrow, "what is it?"
"We both know there is no cure to the repercussions of the heart resurrection spell," Deaton reminded the young witch before he stated, "but I might have found a way to lessen them."
"I have been doing a lot of research this past week about Radkova witches and their effects to the heart resurrection spell," Deaton uttered, "I ended up going down a rabbit hole of information about the connection between a Radkova witch and a true alpha and I found out that Scott's blood might be the way to help you."
The Gilbert girl's green eyes immediately widened in surprise. That was absolutely the last thing she thought Deaton was going to tell her. "What do you mean?" Emily questioned with her brows slightly furrowed, "how would his blood help me?"
Emily, of course, knew blood could have enhanced abilities like when a human drinks a vampire's blood. However, the Radkova witch had never heard anything about the blood of a werewolf healing someone.
"Well, a true alpha and a witch from the Radkova coven have never been alive at the same time since the days of the original witch back in 956 AD," Deaton informed the Gilbert girl.
"We know the two are protective over each other and are essentially soulmates to one another," Deaton mentioned about the true alpha and a Radkova witch. "In theory, Scott's blood could protect the negative actions from you," the druid voiced his conclusion, "it could help you keep the effects at bay or at least help you live more comfortably."
"Hey," Emily murmured as she lightly tossed her hands in the air before she stated with a quiet chuckle, "I'm willing to try anything if it might help me."
The Gilbert girl just wanted to get a control on these episodes before her friends and family realized something was wrong. Emily could lie all she could but she knew Elena and Damon were starting to become concerned about her constant nightmares. Emily would do just about anything at this point to keep this secret from her loved ones.
"Good," the druid murmured as he slowly nodded his head. "I'll start working on an elixir with Scott's blood later this afternoon," Deaton stated before he promised, "I'll send it your way with the sleeping medication as soon as I can."
The Radkova witch released a small breath of relief before she mumbled, "alright, okay." Emily really hoped Scott's blood would help her. The Gilbert girl knew it was a long shot since this was just a theory from the druid but Emily prayed it would help her in some way or she would be drinking the true alpha's blood for nothing.
"Thank you for doing this," the Radkova witch praised the older man with a soft smile. "Tell Scott the same," Emily added before she joked, "and tell him I'm sorry for stealing his blood."
Deaton released an amused chuckle before he told the young witch, "it's my pleasure." The druid closed his black journal before Deaton muttered, "and you can tell Scott yourself when you reach out to him and Stiles."
"Please call them," the Beacon Hills veterinarian desperately begged as he shook his connected hands in front of his face. "Stiles hasn't stopped bugging me about talking to you," Deaton complained before he mumbled, "he's a very insistent boy."
Emily couldn't help to break out in a heavy and joyous laughter as she thought of the Stilinski teenager. The Gilbert girl knew how persistent Stiles could be. Emily couldn't count how many times the Beacon Hills teenager blew up her phone in the middle of the night.
"I will," the Radkova witch promised the druid with a small smile playing on her lips. "I'll make sure to tell him to lay off, so you can work," Emily added with a light chuckle.
"That would be very appreciated," Deaton uttered with his own chuckle before the druid quickly grew serious. "I'll be in touch soon," the druid promised. "We'll see if the sleeping medication and the blood helps you and revaluate in a 'week," Deaton prescribed.
"Of course," the Gilbert girl murmured as she agreed with Deaton's plan of action. "I'll talk to you later. Enjoy the rest of your day," Emily told the druid before she ended the Skype call.
The Radkova witch couldn't help but to release a heavy sigh as she leaned her head against the thick tree behind her. It was a sigh filled with quite a few of emotions. Emily was tired from lack of sleep and the constant nightmares. Emily was exhausted from always having to keep her head on a swivel to keep her secret safe from her loved ones. However, Emily was also thankful and relieved because of Deaton and now Scott.
The Gilbert girl never thought blood would be possibly the way for her to go back to normal. Emily would usually never willingly drink someone's blood (except for the few vampires she cared for) but the Radkova witch wasn't scared to drink the true alpha's blood.
Emily completely trusted the werewolf from Beacon Hills. The Gilbert girl figured that had to do with their connection as a Radkova witch and a true alpha. Emily just knew Scott wasn't trying to hurt her or poison her with his blood.
The Radkova witch had zero worries when it came to Scott's blood elixir. Emily was more worried about the fact if the sleeping pills and the elixir would actually work against these negative episodes she kept having. Emily knew it wouldn't take them all away since there was no cure for the repercussions of the heart resurrection spell.
The young witch would just be happy to get these episodes down to a couple days a week instead of every single day like she had been experiencing. Emily honestly would be pleased with any sort of improvement, at least then it would be easier for Emily to hide these side effects from her friends and family.
That was all Emily wanted. The Radkova witch completely understood and accepted that there would be a negative outcome for bringing her twin sister back to the side of the living. Emily would happily go through the pain to be able to see Elena living her best life. Emily's issue was about hiding these episodes. If she could get a better handle on them with Scott's blood then Emily would be a way happier witch.
