Pokémon: Sinnoh no Isekai
Chapter Two-hundred and seventy-seven: Remnants of a dream gone horribly right, conclusion
Delia Ketchum was laying in a hospital bed, the only sign she needed treatment at a hospital being the cast on her left forearm, going from around the elbow to covering the hand, leaving the fingers and thumb to poke out at the end. Aside from the injury, Delia was fine, and she would be making a swift recovery in due time. This is in spite of the fact a madman recently had tried to sic a powerful Pokémon on her, practically screaming his clear intent to want her dead.
The mother of Ash Ketchum may very well have been vanquished that day, were it not for Ash himself and his friends swooping in to stop the madman. The madman's own Pokémon that he'd tried to have slay Delia was resistant to the idea, and it had been noted the Pokémon was relieved when, given no choice but to act to slay Delia, its attack was stopped because Ash's friend Dawn had one of her very strong Pokémon tank the attack.
Last that Delia heard, the madman's Pokémon was released from the madman's custody, and it ended up being taken in by one of Ash's friends. Given what it had been used to do under the word of the madman, if it roamed around free afterwards than a good many people in Kanto wouldn't rest easy. It was kind of necessary for one of Ash's friends to take the Pokémon into their custody, they have proven many times over they can handle such strong Pokémon.
It was as Delia was thinking about all of this that the door leading into her hospital room opened up, and in walked Ash, who practically zipped right over to Delia and threw his arms around her before he began crying into her shoulder. Following in after Ash was Gary, Goh, Dawn, Kenny, Trip, and last but not least Mina. "I ain't gonna bust Ashy-boy's chops for crying," Gary said, a hint of amusement in his expression that seemed understanding, "I was freaking similarly when I heard that Gramps may have been in danger."
"So what all has been going on while I was recovering here?" Delia asked.
Goh had a grim look on his face. "...Project Mew has been officially disbanded, and a good many of its members, Amaranth included, have been arrested. I myself, along with Gary here, are not among those in trouble, but I still feel like I have some karma coming. I mean, it was me who reported the fact Mew was found to Project Mew."
"In your defense, you never would have known if I didn't by chance see Mew over at Professor Oak's lab and told you about it," Delia replied, "I still remember back when I was younger and a student of Professor Oak's, he'd scold me because I had an unfortunate habit of sharing secrets I learn but said secrets shouldn't be shared." Holding up her arm that was in a cast, Delia went on, "I guess this is punishment for all of that."
"What's done is done, ma'am," Dawn said, "Anyway, if it makes you and Goh feel better, Froot Loop has been checked out by Nurse Joy at the local Pokémon Center, and she said Froot Loop just needs to rest. Khan also got a complete physical and examination and was given a thumbs up."
Delia looked confused. "Professor Oak did mention that you nickname your Pokémon, Dawn. And I do have it that Froot Loop is the name you gave to your Mew. But who's Khan?"
"Someone who... wants to apologize for its actions against you while under Amaranth's command," Dawn explained, "If you're willing to hear it out." Delia realized that Dawn spoke of the powerful Pokémon that was sicced on her; Delia didn't know that it was Dawn specifically who took custody of the powerful Pokémon, she just knew it was one of Ash's friends. But Delia was aware that the powerful Pokémon was objecting to the orders the madman gave it, its heart wasn't aligned with what it was being made to do.
Nodding once, Delia said, "I got it that the powerful Pokémon was ordered to act against its will, made to act against what it felt was right. I don't mind hearing the powerful Pokémon out."
Dawn gave a single nod before she tossed up an Ultra Ball to call out Khan, her named Mewtwo. Seeing Delia laying in that hospital bed, Khan had a look of worry shoot through its eyes. "So I did hurt you," Khan said, speaking through telepathy, "Good human ma'am, it was never in my heart to-"
Delia held up a hand to cut off Khan's pleading. "It's alright, I know you didn't want to do anything bad, you were just compelled to act bad at the word of that madman who commanded you. I even got it you used exact wording to do as told without doing what was actually intended." Delia flashed a small but sincere smile at the named Mewtwo. "I guess that what I heard really is true. There really is no such thing as a truly evil Pokémon, it all depends on the humans they work with."
Gesturing to Dawn, Trip said, "Well you can trust my sister here, she's one of the greatest heroes out there when it comes to working with Pokémon. She's also gotten a powerful Pokémon that had been in bad guy custody once before, and was able to help that Pokémon make a turn around."
Ash nodded in confirmation. "Exactly. If Dawn can work with Reshiram, then she can work with Mewtwo."
"And I intend to work with Khan here," Dawn said as she turned to look at her named Mewtwo, "Let me just say that with the move set it had while working under Amaranth's word, if we did have to battle then we could have walled for days using either Ban or Marquess."
"Kenny's Sabeleye or your Spiritomb?" Mina asked. Dawn then told Mina what moves Khan currently knows. "Pfft, oh yeah," Mina said upon processing the info, "Mewtwo as strong as it is wouldn't be able to do squat to a dual dark ghost type with a move set like that."
Khan had a curious look on its face. "The moves that I know would fail to let me claim victory against a dark ghost type Pokémon?"
"You wouldn't even be able to scratch such a Pokémon, Khan," Dawn replied, "But don't you worry. By the time I'm done, you'll be able to do damage to essentially any Pokémon in battle."
"She's a region Champion," Trip pointed out, "And is currently officially ranked as the number one strongest trainer in the world. She didn't get such accomplishments by just winging it, my sister just knows her stuff."
"Then it would be the height of foolishness to disregard tutelage from so knowledgeable a person," Khan said, "I am ready when you are."
"We still have some issues of business to settle, and then we're set to visit the Alola region after going to pick up Goh's friend Chloe," Dawn explained, "But I know how to go about training you Khan, as well as what moves I'll want you to have."
Khan nodded once in the affirmative. "I already understand that my current move set is insufficient for certain enemies."
"Wait a minute," Goh began, "We're going to pick up Chloe?"
"Kenny says that he's got a script finished for the next Kenny Harris Studios movie, and Chloe will be given a leading roll," Trip explained, "After we grab Chloe, we're headed to Alola. The time there will give us a chance to relax before we have to carry out World Coronation Series obligations, and also let Dawn get in training for Khan."
"Oh yeah, the Kenny Harris Studios movies!" Gary said, "I love those! Hey Dawn, how is it that you are able to go from being really fat to really thin back and forth really quickly? What sort of diet do you use to achieve that?"
"None, she uses a fat suit," Trip answered.
Pulling out a mini notepad and pen to write something down, Kenny said, "And Gary joins the list."
After going to pick up Chloe, the heroes made their way to the Alola region. By the time that they touched down, the reborn trainers, plus Ash, Goh, and Chloe, heard that all persons guilty in the recent madness Amaranth tried unleashing had been rounded up and arrested. Sentencing will be determined later, but for now all loose ends have been tied up. This allowed the heroes to focus on Chloe taking the first step towards her dreams, a step she'll take with help from Kenny.
When the heroes touched down in Alola, they were met up by all of their old Alolan friends. To the surprise of the heroes, they found Sophocles in the company of Misty, one of Ash's old traveling companion who, due to trauma suffered during a Team Scorn attack, suffered a mild degree of mental regression. It only shaved a few years off her mental age, and she's showing signs that her mental age will one day catch back up to her biological age. A miracle to be sure.
...But the Misty the heroes knew prior to the incident, the water Pokémon loving and bug Pokémon fearing Misty, may very well not come back, replaced with the current Misty who fears water Pokémon and loves bug Pokémon. Misty, with her older sisters, were visiting Alola because the older sisters wanted to get in on the fashion scene. Misty came along because, aside from the fact her condition meant she can't exactly be left alone, Sophocles lives in Alola, and he's dating Misty.
The heroes found all of their old classmates, aside from Serena who was absent, along the beach, where Misty kept as far from the water as possible. "Guys, this here is Chloe, a friend of Ash's bud Goh," Kenny said as he made the introductions, "And she shall be the star of the next Kenny Harris Studios movie! A fairy tale classic revamped slightly to accommodate Chloe being the star."
"Aww yeah!" Mallow said, "A new Kenny Harris Studios movie!"
"What's the fairy tale you're revamping?" Lana asked. Lana was now mildly overweight, a stark contrast to how she had been bone thin a while ago. But she still wasn't too big; Sophocles who looked the same as always was still proportionally bigger.
"We're gonna do our own spin on Cinderella," Kenny said, "But with Chloe in the lead role, it'll be called 'Cinder-Chloe'. Anyway, where's Serena? We're gonna need all the gang together for Chloe's first steps towards stardom."
"Serena, upon hearing that Ash was coming, is now hiding and refuses to come out due to fear of Ash seeing her," Kiawe explained.
Looking curious, Ash said, "Why would Serena be afraid of me seeing her? I have no problem with her."
"You know how Serena," Lillie began, "After she became the first Contest Kahuna, got a role as an advertiser for the malasada shop, even selling her self as the 'Malasada Maiden'? Yeah, all of the free malasada she got as part of her payment in addition to cash income, well..."
...
The reborn trainers, it was just them as Ash, Goh, and Chloe waited back with the others, visited Serena and were rather surprised to see that Serena had, with all due respect, gotten rather big. She was bigger than Lana, but not as big as Dawn looks when she wears a fat suit for roles in Kenny Harris Studios movies. "I... can see why you don't want anyone to see you like this," Mina said dryly as she and the other reborn trainers visited their now big friend.
"I can't let Ash see me like this!" exclaimed Serena, "I can't even let him know, or else he'll think that-"
"Ash already knows, Lillie told him," Dawn interrupted, drawing a shocked and mildly mortified look out of Serena. Sighing, Dawn said, "Seriously, Serena. Ash when told about this didn't get bothered by it. Granted he was a bit surprised to hear it, but he doesn't think any less of you."
"And if your weight distresses you that badly," Trip went on, "Ash can work with you to help you slim back down. It wouldn't be the first time Ash played a role in helping a person lose weight, although you'd be the first human Ash would help in that regard."
Listing off of her fingers, Dawn said, "Ash's own Gardevoir, and later Clemont's Chespin which you ought to remember."
Looking nervous, Serena said, "Well, umm... if you promise that Ash won't think negatively of me."
"You'd have to be a villain like a member of Team Scorn for Ash to think poorly of you in any way," Kenny pointed out, "Trust me when I say that Ash is all good." Serena, although still nervous for Ash to see her post-weight gain, agreed to go meet with the others to get to work on the next movie out of Kenny Harris Studios.
"Now crew," Kenny said to everyone as they met to lay out the ground work for the next Kenny Harris Studios movie, "This next project will be my own version of the classic Cinderella story, and it will be titled 'Cinder-Chloe'. As you can imagine, Goh's friend Chloe will be the star of the show."
"So what will the roles be?" Lana asked.
"Firstly, we'll need the star, that's Chloe," Kenny said as he wrote Chloe's name up on the dry erase board, "There's a wicked step-mom and two wicked step-sisters. There'll be a messenger bringing word of the ball where the prince is looking for a bride, a fairy to tell Cinder-Chloe that her Fairy Godpimp is coming to-"
"I'm sorry," Trip said, "Fairy Godpimp?"
Nodding once, Kenny said, "Yeah, a Fairy Godpimp played by yours truly. Anyway, there will be a king and queen, their son the prince-"
"Ooh, can I be in the movie too?" Misty asked as she raised a hand, "Even if it's just a background role or something. My sisters love the movies you make, so I bet they'd be super impressed with me if I was in one of your movies!"
"Actually I... never thought about putting you in a movie," Kenny said, surprised that Misty wanted to take part, "But I do like your enthusiasm, I'm sure I can come up with something for you." Kenny then proceeded to lay out the rest of the cast, and go over the general flow of the movie, which was easy enough given it's a rendition of Cinderella. After everything was settled, production of the first step Chloe will take towards her dreams was a go.
...
The screen was black until it showed the logo for Kenny Harris Studios as Kenny's voice in the background said, "A Kenny Harris production." The screen then lit up and showed a quaint but lovely cottage home as 'Cinder-Chloe' appeared on the screen before fading away. The scene then panned in to show Chloe, dressed like a poor servant girl, scrubbing a floor as Lillie dressed like the lady of the house looked over everything.
"You are about done, I suppose," Lillie said, drawing a sigh of relief from Chloe. Then Mallow dressed like a bratty daughter came in, picked up a potted plant, and dropped it on the floor, not only breaking it but also spilling dirt everywhere. "Oh, you are not done cleaning I see," Lillie said.
"But she deliberately dumped that pot!" Chloe complained.
"You do not speak up against me ever!" Lillie proclaimed while pointing at Chloe, "You ought to be grateful I didn't leave you out on the roadside after your father passed after I had married him and became your wicked step-mom!"
"Why did you just refer to yourself as my wicked step-mom?" Chloe asked.
"Because this is a fairy tale, and all step-moms in in fairy tales are wicked!" Lillie said, "Now then Cinder-Chloe, unless you want me to become a hangry step-mom, then after you clean up the mess that Mallow made, you will-"
Lillie was cut off by a knock at the door, to which she answered with Mallow and Lana who was dressed similarly to Mallow following. Opening the door, it revealed Goh dressed as a courier, accompanied by Bonnie also dressed as a courier. "We bring word and invitation of a ball at King Ash's palace!" Goh said, "All girls of eligible marriage age must attend, for King Ash is seeking a wife for his son Prince Clemont!"
"Yes," Bonnie said, "Clemont needs a wife, yes!" Goh then handed an invite to Lillie before taking off with Bonnie, who was rubbing her hands in eager anticipation of Clemont getting a wife.
After closing the door, Lillie said, "You hear that, Mallow and Lana? You two have a shot at getting married to the prince!"
"What about me?" Cinder-Chloe asked.
"Pfft, what about you?" Lana asked.
Gesturing to the invite, Cinder-Chloe said, "The courier said ALL girls of eligible marriage age MUST attend! I'm of eligible marriage age, so I-"
"-Will pretend to not exist as I don't want you to go because I hate you," Lillie said, "Now, unless you want me to go hangry step-mom mode, you will go make me a sandwich!" Lillie and her daughters proceeded to do exaggerated haughty noblewomen laughs at Cinder-Chloe as she left to go make the sandwich for Lillie, who bent back so much in her exaggerated haughty noblewoman laugh that she accidentally fell over onto the floor.
...
Later, Lillie, Mallow, and Lana, all dressed to go to the ball, left in a carriage, leaving Cinder-Chloe alone at home. As she sighed in a depressed tone, she heard a knock on the door. "Oi! I'm here to bring word that will help you, Cinder-Chloe!" Dawn's voice called out. Curious, Cinder-Chloe went to answer the door, letting in Dawn dressed as a fairy.
"Who are you?" Cinder-Chloe asked as she closed the door behind Dawn.
"I am a fairy who is here to tell you that you can yet go to the ball and potentially get the prince to fall for you," Dawn said, "You just need to wait for your Fairy Godpimp to show up and he'll get you ready to turn heads."
Cinder-Chloe had a curious look on her face. "My... my Fairy Godpi-"
*knock* *knock* *knock*
Cinder-Chloe and Dawn the Fairy heard a knock at the door, which Chloe answered. Standing there was Kenny, dressed up in a purple suit with light purple dress shirt worn underneath and a black tie, purple dress pants, shiny purple dress shoes, a purple fedora with a leopard print band around the base, and he was carrying a cane that matched well with the outfit. He also had fairy wings on his back, same as Dawn the Fairy, but unlike Dawn Kenny wore a pair of purple shades that went with what all he was wearing.
"I... take it you're my Fairy Godpimp?" Cinder-Chloe asked.
"Mmm, it looks like I got my work cut out for me here," Kenny said as he made his way in. After entering, Kenny turned around to face Cinder-Chloe and Dawn. "...Girl, is you blind?" Kenny said, "Or do you not see that the door's open?" Acting quickly, Cinder-Chloe closed the door. "Now then, before I can get started, I believe that introductions are in order," Kenny said to Cinder-Chloe, "My name is A pimp named Kenny, and I am your Fairy Godpimp."
"Your..." Cinder Cinder-Chloe said, "...Your name is Ken-"
"No no no," A pimp named Kenny interrupted, "It is 'A pimp named Kenny'! One must say the whole thing every single time!" Pointing the end of his cane at Cinder-Chloe, A pimp named Kenny asked, "Are we clear?"
Nodding once, Cinder-Chloe replied, "Yes sir, Mr. A pimp named Kenny."
"The 'Mr.' isn't necessary, it's just 'A pimp named Kenny'," corrected A pimp named Kenny, "Nothing less, nothing more." Lowering his cane, A pimp named Kenny said, "Geez girl, first you make me think that you is blind, now you make me think that you is deaf. We really gotta work on you if we're to get your butt ready for the ball to make that fool Prince Clemont fall for you." Cinder-Chloe wasn't entirely sure if this was going to work, but she was holding out hope that, with help from A pimp named Kenny, she will be able to go to the ball.
...
After a montage, Cinder-Chloe was dressed up like the bell of the ball. "Girl, look at you!" A pimp named Kenny said, "Mmm mmm MMM! You are going to make even that Prince fall for you now!"
Looking at herself in a mirror, Cinder-Chloe said, "Wow, I look amazing!" Turning to look at A pimp named Kenny, Cinder-Chloe said, "Thank you so much, Kenny!"
A pimp named Kenny said nothing, just looked at his nails with a bored, indifferent look. "Umm... Kenny?" Cinder-Chloe asked, still getting no response. After a moment, Cinder-Chloe realized her mistake because she said, "A pimp named Kenny?"
"Yes dear?" A pimp named Kenny replied, a sly look of amusement on his face.
"Thank you for helping me," Cinder-Chloe said.
"You can thank me by getting your butt to the ball and making all the men there turn their heads to see you, girl," A pimp named Kenny said, shooing Cinder-Chloe out the door.
After Cinder-Chloe was gone, Dawn the Fairy asked, "You think she'll do alright, A pimp named Kenny?"
"Ooh, she better," A pimp named Kenny said, "Do you know how much gas I had to use to get out here to work my magic? I swear there better be some sort of payoff."
...
At King Ash's palace, everyone was mingling with one another as the royal family stood by to watch. Ash dressed up like a king, Serena dressed up like a queen, Clemont dressed up like a prince, and lastly Misty dressed up like a princess. "So Clemont my boy," Ash began, "See any maidens yet that you're interested in?"
"I do see many maidens yes," Clemont replied, "But none that I'm interested in."
As the royal family watched, they were met up by the couriers Goh and Bonnie. "Did you two make sure to extend invitations to every maiden of eligible marriage age in the kingdom?" Serena asked, "This ball, in addition to fostering goodwill with the people, is also meant to find my son a wife from among all of the maidens!"
"I have made it my life goal to find Prince Clemont a bride, your grace," Bonnie said. There was a hint of embarrassment on Clemont's face as Bonnie spoke.
Gesturing to himself, Goh said, "Trust me your royal highness, my efforts that I contributed to helping with finding a bride for Prince Clemont will pay off!"
"They better," Serena said, "Because if not, then you WILL be sent to the chopping block, as per the word of the deal we made."
Gulping nervously, Goh said, "Yeah yeah, I know. If my efforts fail tonight, I'll lose my head over that time I had a slip of the tongue and called you-"
Goh was cut off when Cinder-Chloe made her appearance, making everyone take pause so they could see her make her way in. Even Cinder-Chloe's step family failed to recognize her, thinking her to be some manner of noblegirl. Even Clemont was surprised by the appearance of Cinder-Chloe. "Who is that most alluring girl?" Clemont said.
"She's very pretty, big brother," Misty said, "Go ask her to dance with you!" The princess then pushed Clemont to go dance with Cinder-Chloe. After some awkward small talk, Cinder-Chloe and Clemont began to dance. All eyes were on them as they shared a dance in the center of the ball room.
The ball went on for hours, and eventually Cinder-Chloe was the girl picked by Clemont to be his bride. The people cheered, aside from the maidens who lost out on hooking up with a prince. As the royal family and the two couriers watched Clemont finally get a bride, Bonnie sniffled as she said, "It's a dream come true!"
Nodding once, Serena said, "Yes, this is what my son needs."
"Since I helped with bringing maidens to the ball, that means I get to keep my head," Goh remarked.
Shrugging, Serena said, "I suppose."
Patting Serena on the back, Goh said, "Glad to hear it, your royal fatness!"
Instantly, Serena had a dry look of unamusement on her face as Goh had a nervous look of realization on his face. Serena gestured for two guards, Gladion and Trip, to come over. "Take this one to the chopping block," Serena said to the guards while jerking a thumb at Goh, "Like, now!"
Gladion and Trip nodded in understanding as they each grabbed one of Goh's biceps and dragged him away like that, with Goh screaming in panic the entire time. The doomed courier was ignored, as Cinder-Chloe and Clemont shared a dance to cement how they were now an item.
FIN
...
'Cinder-Chloe' ended up being a rousing success, similar to the other movies to come out of Kenny Harris Studios. A special screening of 'Cinder-Chloe' was done at Chloe's school over in the Kanto region, in Chloe's classroom for her classmates to see. Standing at the front of the class as all of the students cheered were the reborn trainers, plus Ash, Goh, and Chloe. "We will now take a couple of questions you guys may have about the movie," Kenny said.
One girl raised her hand and, when called on, asked, "The girl who played the queen, isn't she that Serena girl who's been in past Kenny Harris Studios movies? How did she-"
"-She over-indulged on malasada she was supplied with as part of her being a spokes girl for a malasada joint in Alola," Kenny explained, "But on that note, we are proud to announce that our very own Ash Ketchum here has, at Serena's request, started work with Serena to get her back to her prior fit form!"
As the class cheered in support of Serena slimming back down, Kenny took another question, this one from another girl, this one looking to be an 'ice queen' kind of girl. "I recently heard that one of your usual actors was... was actually killed," the ice queen girl said, "How are you guys feeling about that? Are you okay? Any plans to pay tribute to the fallen actor?"
"Oh yeah, Paul was killed," Kenny said, "And now that it comes up, I think that it wouldn't do if Kenny Harris Studios did not pay tribute to our fallen friend, who gave his life to save another."
"We were hit hard by the loss of Paul," Ash said, "A guy who realized he messed up and strove to make up for it, trying to better himself both as a trainer and as a person. But despite his mess ups, Paul proved that he's better than how he started. I believe a lot of us can learn from the example that Paul tried to present."
Holding up a hand, one boy in class said, "I heard one of you say something about the actress Lana dealing with het parents separating? What happened there?"
"Oh, it's due to a screw-up on part of Lana's mom," Kenny explained, "That explains why not only did Lana's dad get custody of Lana and her little sisters, but had so easy a time doing so. I'm not all that sure if Lana's parents are getting divorced straight up, but the girls made it clear their dad is their preferred parent to stay with."
Holding up a hand, the first girl asked, "When's the next Kenny Harris Studios movie coming out?"
"There are some obligations that Kenny and a few others in the usual cast and crew have to deal with," Mina answered, "Mostly in relation to the current season of the World Coronation Series. There's a heavily advertised battle in the Ultra Class where Kenny and Trip will duke it out, and also there's the Masters Eight tournament, in which both Ash and Dawn will take part."
"Oh yeah!" the ice queen girl said, "Ash Ketchum and Dawn Berlitz are both officially ranked among the eight strongest trainers in the world, with Dawn being the number one!"
"On a note related to the battle between Kenny and Trip," Dawn said, "It has been confirmed that the final destination for it is the Lily of the Valley Conference stadium in the Sinnoh region. It's also going to be a full battle, which is rare outside of the Masters Eight tournament according to what I've been told on the matter."
Dawn didn't say it, but Kenny and Trip also had to, as per the request of the persons running the World Coronation Series, use entire parties of their legendary and mythical Pokémon, as their full battle in the Ultra Class was the last major show in the World Coronation Series before the Masters Eight tournament, and the main event needed to be as hyped up as possible. The boys had a few days to prepare though, and in that time they'll train their Pokémon. Dawn was also planning to get in time to work on training Khan.
The first girl held her hand up. "Dawn, will you and Ash be prepping for the Masters Eight tournament?" asked the girl.
"I can't say anything for certain about Ash, but I sure as hell plan to train and prep," Dawn replied.
Nodding once, Ash said, "Of course I plan to do what all I can to get ready for the Masters Eight tournament! I'm going to be in the Alola region for the rest of the time from now until the Masters Eight tournament, not only training my Pokémon to get them and myself ready, but also to get started on working with Serena to help her get back in shape!"
"Fun fact," Kenny said, "Ash has had a hand in helping with weight loss regimens for others before, although Serena is the first human that Ash will be helping in such a manner. Ash here actually knows his stuff. And who knows? If Serena is successful, it could be a story spun into the basis of a future Kenny Harris Studios movie."
The classmates cheered in support of Serena losing her excess weight, and cheered Ash on as he took on the effort to work with Serena. And the potential that a Kenny Harris Studios movie can come up from this had the classmates excited. Everyone had a blast, and it seemed that all was going to end up well.
However, there whereas Ash was going to be in be in Alola from now until the Masters Eight tournament, the reborn trainers were headed home to Sinnoh where, Dawn getting in work on Khan aside, Kenny and Trip had to prep for their final battle in the World Coronation Series, a battle that they would face one another in. But before that, the reborn trainers would be able to sneak in a quick trip to Alola with Ash, as there's something they wanted to check up on.
Later after the reborn trainers and Ash got to Alola, the reborn trainers caught a glimpse of Ash running with his Pokémon in a group exercise that was obviously training; Pikachu, Lucario, Gengar, Sirfetch'd, Dracovish, and Dragonite were all running/flying with Ash, and Dawn got it that Ash was also gonna do work with Melmetal and Naganadel, who Ash brought along when he began the part of his journey he's on now.
Also part of the group running with Ash is Serena, who Ash was starting to do work with to help her slim back down after she gained some weight due to unlimited malasada she got due in part to her being made a spokesperson for the local malasada shop due to becoming the first Contest Kahuna. It would be hard work, but Serena was determined to battle the bulge, and with Ash being there for her every step of the way aside from when he had to leave to take part in the Masters Eight tournament, she felt that her determination and inspiration would be without limit.
But Serena is not the girl that the reborn trainers came to see. No, they were focused on another of their female peers in Alola, that being Lana. They were concerned about the fact that her parents are separated, and most likely may very well end up getting divorced, due to Lana's mom having been borderline starving Lana and her sisters in a desperate bid to make and keep them as slender as possible. It got to the point it affected Lana not only physically by making her near bone thin and passing out from hunger, but also psychologically as she started parroting her mom's ideals.
Lana was able to recover in both aspects only when her parents began their separation and Lana's dad took custody of her and her sisters. It was also made clear that, if divorce does end up going down, the girls will stay with their dad. The reborn trainers, worried that damage may be caused and never fixed, decided to get to the bottom of why Lana's mom had gone as far as she did; they even brought Lana along, partly because it's her mom so they sort of had to.
...
"Why I went as hard as I did to make sure my daughters were made and kept thin?" Lana's mom asked, "I mean, why wouldn't I? What mom wouldn't want her daughter being as thin as possible?"
"Ma'am, when you were running that show," Kenny began, "Lana was thin to the point it weren't healthy. She passed out from hunger at least once from what I saw personally. And then there was the fact you had her influenced to the point you had her helping you trying to push the deal she had onto her little sisters. If it was to avoid Lana being unhealthy due to weight, then all you did was push her from one extreme to the other, rendering the goal moot."
Gesturing to Lana, Lana's mom said, "Well being very thin got her a boyfriend, didn't it?"
"Is THAT what this was all about this whole time?!" Mina practically snapped, "You nearly starved Lana to death because you were running with the belief girls have to be as thin as possible in order to get boys to like them?!"
"Well it IS true," Lana's mom defended, "No boy wants to date a fatty, and I want my daughters to be able to get with guys one day."
Doing a face palm, Trip muttered, "Oh you have got to be shitting me." To Lana's mom, Trip spoke up, "Ma'am, girls don't necessarily have to be beanpole thin to get a guy. Hell, Lana was disguised in a fat suit when her boyfriend first saw her and got the hots for her."
Holding up a hand, Mina said, "I know this one girl who's in the range of five-hundred pounds believe it or not, and she recently got a boyfriend."
To Lana's mom, Dawn said, "I can understand wanting someone to lose weight if they're big enough to actually warrant it. Hell, our friend Serena had gained some weight and is now working on losing it. But starving someone until they're bone thin and passing out from hunger is NOT healthy, and it certainly won't help a girl get a boyfr-"
"I helped ME get a boyfriend when I was younger!" Lana's mom snapped, cutting Dawn off and drawing surprised looks from everyone.
Even Lana looked surprised. "...Mom?"
Relenting, Lana's mom said with a sigh, "I... I used to be as chubby as you are right now Lana, back in my mid teens. No guy back then wanted to give me the time of day. So I dieted and starved myself like crazy, got really thin. And wouldn't you know it, it led to me getting together with the guy who one day would become your dad."
"I...see," Dawn said, "But in any case, just because it was the case for you doesn't mean it has to be the case for your daughters. Especially since times change and it's more acceptable for girls in the dating scene to have a little extra weight nowadays."
"And dad told me about how he got together with you," Lana continued, "He ended up sticking with you because the first girl he tried to get together with vanished without a trace. He's still to this day wondering where she had gone to. He even has a photo of the girl, and she's actually a little on the chubby side believe it or not!"
Lana's mom looked surprised by what Lana revealed, that Lana's dad used to know a chubby girl who was actually his first choice and that Lana's mom herself only got with Lana's dad because he failed to find the girl one day. It left her unsure of how to go about things from this point moving forward, but she at least got it through her head that a girl does not necessarily have to be bone thin and on the verge of starvation to get a guy to like her.
...
Back at where Lana and her sisters were staying with their dad, Lana was rooting around through an old box as the reborn trainers watched. "...Aha!" Lana said as she pulled out a photo. Showing it to the reborn trainers, Lana said, "This is a photo of the first girl my dad liked, before he had lost track of her and ended up with my mom."
Dawn took the photo and looked at it, and it showed a mid teens girl who looked like a teen version of Lana as she is right now, notably on the chubby side but not enough yet to qualify as obese. The only real difference is that the girl in the photo wasn't wearing glasses like what Lana needs now. "And your dad has a photo of this girl because..." Kenny began as he looked over Dawn's shoulder to see the photo.
"Because she was his first love," Lana replied, "She's also a missing person, she actually has missing person posters out for her that are working to this day. She was reported missing by my dad when he failed to find her."
Looking at the photo for a moment, Mina said, "Wouldn't it be funny if this turned out to be Lana's mom before she did that crazy dieting she said she did?"
"Oh that better not be the case," Dawn swore, "Because aside from being predictable as all get out, it would make a lot of the development as a person Lana went through rendered moot as it would of been all for nothing."
END, CHAPTER TWO-HUNDRED AND SEVENTY-SEVEN
Author's notes;
This chapter wraps up the major bits of the Project Mew storyline, showing that Delia did indeed survive despite Amaranth's efforts, so no need to worry there. Delia is even understanding towards Khan, as she knows it was compelled to act at the word of another and that Khan itself didn't have its heart in what it was doing. A few loose ends will be tied up here and there, but things for the time being have been settled.
Then everyone goes to Alola so as to make another Kenny Harris Studios movie, this one with Chloe in a starring role to help her reach her dream here. The reborn trainers also see that Serena, due to getting so much malasada for being the malasada shop spokesperson due to becoming Alola's first Contest Kahuna, had gained some weight. This leads to Serena getting to work privately with Ash, and it is a plot point that will be touched upon later.
Speaking of, the reason for Lana's mom being so gung-ho on Lana and her sisters being as thin as possible is finally revealed; Lana's mom got it into her head in her teen years that girls have to be as thin as possible in order to land a boyfriend, as Lana's mom herself used to be chubby but lost all the weight after starving and dieting like there's no tomorrow. It's also strongly implied that Lana's mom pre-weight loss was Lana's dad's first love and he just doesn't recognize her.
Anyway, the next chapter will see the last World Coronation Series battle before the Masters Eight tournament. The battle in question, which will be an Ultra Class battle, will see Kenny and Trip have a full battle where they both use entire parties of legendary Pokémon. This is being done solely to hype up the Masters Eight tournament as much as possible; it wasn't even the idea of either Kenny or Trip. The battle in the next chapter will be legendary, but until then take care.
