LoL, I wanted to make a Christmas special this year. This is placed about in the middle of the third book of my Wings of Power universe, and five years into the future giver er take.
A large brown dragon was flying through the mountains of the east coast of Pyrrhia. Alongside the dragon was a large white dragon that looked almost made of ice.
Crane looked over at the White dragon, "What do you think Icicle! You think the meeting should go well?" she said while steadying her wings in the rough winter winds.
Icicle thought for a few seconds but nodded her head, "I would almost guarantee it, the NightWings and the SandWings have never really had any real major issues, even during the SandWing civil war or Darkstalker's war." Icicle explained. "It also helps that Thorn's mate is a NightWing,"
Crane smiled at that. Icicle has come a long way since she first joined the group. If you had told her 4 years ago that a dragon that had tried to rip out her throat would one day be one of her best friends, she would call you insane.
Icicle has become more social in the past few years, still a little introvert. But, she would every now and then crack jokes with the group and she has seen her smile multiple times now.
There were a lot of things that have changed in the last few years, ever since the end of the war.
Clay and Peril were currently watching over their first egg back home.
Winter was running around with his SandWing friend, trying to keep the peace with the Scaven- I mean humans.
Turtle was hanging out with his mate during the holidays. So wasn't Sunny with her boyfriend.
And who knows where everyone else was at? They were always on the move trying to make sure that the world would never be thrown back into a war.
Icicle had been paired with her for this mission, which was fine. She loved hanging out with her on these missions. They had been paired up quite a lot on their missions because all the other Dragonets of Destiny liked to be paired up with their mates. Which she understood.
She wanted to hang out with her sibs this holiday. But it was announced about a week ago that the SandWings finally wanted to get an official peace agreement out with the Newly reformed Night Kingdom.
Last year had also been pretty wild. A weird-looking dragon had been blown in from a tropical storm off the west coast, and with the dragon came news of a new land.
A land that sounded about as wild as Pyrrhia. Apparently, there was a mad queen that could control minds with the help of a plant that was also being helped by the corpse of a dead dragonet? Weird.
But with the new land came four new members of the dragonets. During their stay in the new kingdom, they met up with two Silkwings, a HiveWing, and a LeafWing whom they invited to join their group.
They got along great. Blue, one of the SilkWings was almost identical to Turtle and Clay with how he acted. Luna, another SilkWing was nice but fierce when she needed to be. Cricket, the HiveWing got along perfectly with Starflight, Starflight liked to talk about scrolls and Cricket liked to talk about her books. Lastly, Sundew reminded her a lot of Icicle, it was almost uncanny.
Anemone and Turtle haven't given any of them powers though, we have been talking about it but we haven't done it yet. It's not like there has been a reason to though. There hasn't been a real threat since... Darkstalker.
Crane shivered at that thought because the formerly named Darkstalker's teeth just came into view.
Icicle saw her shiver, "Hey... don't worry, there is no way he is coming back after what Clay, Peril, and Anemone did to him."
Crane nodded her head, "I know, but he still is probably the scariest dragon we have ever fought or ever will fight,"
Icicle nodded with her, "I can agree to that, that had been one of the only dragons to truly get close to killing some of us..."
Crane kept flapping her wings silently, watching the landscape go by. She sighed slightly, remembering once again what time of the year it was, "I don't know why they had to do this on Christmas?"
"I think it's because they are trying to make sure everybody is in good spirits, so nothing goes wrong..." Icicle thought out loud.
Crane nodded her head, "Sounds about right," She was quiet when the lights of the kingdom started to appear ahead.
Showing off on how much the NighWings had come since they had moved back to their ancient kingdom.
She had truthfully wanted to see this kingdom again, but she hadn't had the chance with all the work. She had been here once, but it wasn't under the best... circumstances.
They flew over the kingdom, seeing all the dragons that were out and about. Many of them were partying, and putting up decorations, she could even hear choirs singing.
Icicle and Crane made their way to the castle that was almost done being repaired. There was still many abandoned building or homes in the kingdom, but many of them have now been repaired or filled in by a new family.
They landed at the gate to the kingdom where a HUGE NightWing was already there, waiting for them.
"Crane, Icicle, long time no see!" the huge dragon said.
Crane gave a smile to the NightWing, "Hope, I would have loved to visit, but we have been kept busy with all the work that needs to be done,"
Hope nodded, "Tell me about it! I have no personal time at all, trying to make sure this kingdom stays running without any issues."
Crane nodded, "I offered it once a while ago, but you still don't want me to help fix the castle, do you?"
Hope smiled at her, "No, thanks for the offer, but it gives a large amount of the kingdom a job to do, fixing all the broken-down buildings and infrastructure."
Crane nodded, understanding. She had to study a little on this when she decided to help out with this kind of stuff, if she was going to be a major ambassador, she had to know what the queens were talking about in their deals.
Hope looked to the castle, "Do you want me to show you to your room? If I were you, I would try to sleep now, because it's probably going to be loud all night."
Ever since Darkstaker, the NightWings have been trying to get back into their ancient ways and try to be a nocturnal tribe again.
But she and Icicle remembered this, and on the way here they started trying to adjust their sleep schedule to work around this.
Crane shook her head no to the queen, "Thanks, but I think me and Icicle are going to go get something to eat before we go to bed."
Hope nodded, "All right then, I am going to head back inside. When you want your room, just ask anybody in the palace for help,"
"Thank you," Crane said to the queen before turning around.
"So, where do you want to go?" Crane asked Icicle.
She shrugged her wings, "I don't know, I have been here about as much as you, and I don't know anywhere here to eat," Icicle answered un-helpingly.
"Meh, let's just go look around for a bit, we got a while before we should try and sleep," Crane said while flapping her wings to get into the air.
They flew into the town and landed in the central plaza, spotting all the dragons running around and setting up for tomorrow's holiday.
Icicle and Crane walked through the city, spotting all the new stores and restaurants, till one caught their eye.
It was a restaurant that was supposed to have food that all dragons liked and it was run by a young nightwing family.
Crane and Icicle sat down at one of the tables. "It's good to finally get to sit down and rest for just a minute," Crane said while leaning back in her chair, her wings slightly spreading out while she stretched.
Icicle just nodded while looking down at her menu. "This should be a easy mission so we shouldn't have to stress ourselves to much."
"Do you see anything good on that menu?" Crane asked her. Most MudWings are notorious glutens, but she has prided herself by staying slim and fit for a MudWing. Now that doesn't mean she doesn't like to eat, she just likes to try and limit it.
"There is hickory smoked Catfish, smothered in honey, I think you would like that," Icicle said.
Crane nodded, "Do you see anything you like?"
Icicle looked for a bit longer until she nodded, "Yea, I don't know how they did it, but they got Polar bear all the way out here..."
Crane smiled, "I know how they did it, Winter and Qibli were here earlier this year and helped form a trade partnership with the IceWings and NightWings, arguably, in my opinion, was the hardest partnership formed this year."
Icicle nodded, "I am surprised that it was formed at all, especially with how IceWings and NightWings have always been major rivals."
Crane smiled even more, "It just shows the work we have been putting in has worked greatly,"
Icicle slightly smiled at that, and lightly nodded.
The waiter came and got their order. It should not take that long to get some food, the place wasn't very full with everybody out and getting ready for tomorrow.
"Sorry that you couldn't be with your sibs during the holiday, I tried to get them to pick somebody else like Blue or Sundew, but Starflight and Clay both said that you or one of the other sibs would be perfect for this with you actually knowing Hope," Icicle said, once the waiter left.
"No, it's fine, at least I get to hang out with you," Crane said while giving her a smile, "I could be doing this by myself,"
Icicle had a slight blush but nodded, "Thanks,"
The waiter came back with their food, and Crand and Icicle started to dig in.
Icicle finished up first and stood up. "I am going to head in for tonight, are you coming with me?"
Crane thought for a minute but shook her head, "Nah, I think I am going to walk around for just a few minutes,"
Icicle nodded her head and started making her way back to the palace.
Crane finished her food and paid the owner. Her and Icicle were on an agreement to take turns paying for food when they were paired up in these missions.
She walked out of the restaurant and started to walk down the plaza, looking at all the stores around her.
She wasn't really looking to buy anything. She just wanted to browse and look at everything here.
But there was one store that caught her eye that was almost a blast of the past.
It was a store that was selling capes and scarves of all different colors.
She remembered the day she first met Icicle, she was only holding her by the neck getting ready to kill her. Icicle was wearing a crème grey cape before she got tackled by Clay and it was shredded.
She smiled at the memory. It would be nice to get Icicle a present. She picked out a dark blue Cape and paid the owner for it. Leaving the store and heading back to the palace.
She went to bed that night with a smile on her face, looking forward to giving Icicle the present tomorrow.
