Perspective change warning for this chapter.
Oh, there's a difference between POV and non-POV, can you spot it?
Storytime!
~Terminal~
"Anyone else excited for our first mission?" Terminal asked.
"Focus and be quiet Terminal." Godmother said, checking to make sure that her shotgun was at the ready.
"Where'd Verge go anyway? I thought we were going in as a single group." Terminal said, ignoring what Godmother had said.
"Tactical reasons according to Whisper, don't ask me why." Cherub replied, his eyes flicking from the road to the built-in car radar. "Destination's two miles away." He said, swerving to avoid a collision with a car that had ran the red light.
Terminal groaned, "Can't we go any faster?" She asked.
"Nope, we're already going faster than the speed limit, anymore and the police won't care if we're in a hurry." Cherub said.
Terminal sighed and became silent.
No-one talked much for the rest of the trip.
"We're here." Cherub said, getting out of the drivers' seat in the transportation vehicle that they were in.
Finally! Terminal thought, getting out in what had to be record speed.
"You forgot the drone." Godmother called after her.
"Drat." Terminal said as she turned around to get the medical field drone out from inside the transport vehicle. Said drone was required to be brought at all times by Terminal.
"Where's the mayor's most likely position?" Godmother asked, examining the building from where she stood.
Cherub replied with, "No confirmed area."
"So we should infiltrate one room at a time, right?" Terminal said, walking over to the other two agents.
"While that may not be the greatest strategy, I don't belive we have a better option." Godmother sighed.
"Charge unpacked and ready to be placed." Cherub said.
What about here?" Terminal asked.
Cherub scanned the area and- finding few hostiles- planted the charge. With little hesitation, he pressed the detonation button.
~Verge~
Verge stared blankly at the wall where he should put the infiltration charge. He hadn't been able to untangle the charge from its straps, instead only managing to tangle it further.
This is Cherub's expertise, not mine. He thought. Watching how to do it isn't the same as doing the thing ones' self.
Verge had a vague idea of how to use a charge, he'd seen it at training camp quite often. He was sorely tempted to call Cherub to ask for directions on how to untangle the charge, however, should the need arise for him to do it himself, he needed to know what to do without help.
Verge decided after a few more minutes of trying to untangle the infiltration charge that he was wasting valuable time and just planted the charge, hoping that nothing would go wrong.
Just as Verge pressed the detonation button, he realized something. Wait, isn't this the part where I run for co-
KA-BOOM!
-ver...
And then he was hit in the face with little chunks of wall and shrapnel.
~Cherub~
"After me!" He shouted, lowering his shield and running into the hole in the side of the building with his pistol in hand.
Cherub, Terminal, and Godmother got inside the building quickly and shot at the infiltraters before ducking into cover.
"Medic! Wait, I'm the medic!" Terminal shouted in slight confusion, that being one of her usual call-out's that she was hurt and didn't realize that she was the healer. if camp together had any perks, that would be one of them.
"Anything I can do?" Cherub called out.
"Yeah, shoot those guys." She shouted back.
"With pleasure." Godmother interrupted, firing at the closest enemy to her position. The infiltrater fell.
"Nice one." Cherub said.
"Focus." Godmother replied.
Terminal may have seen an opportunity to get into a better position, because she ducked and rolled when the bullets weren't whizzing past her ears to a new place. She ran over to an enemy when they reloading and smashed the butt end of her rifle on the infiltraters' skull.
"And stay down!" She shouted at the unconscious person.
Eventually they finished killing all the threats in the room
They cleared another room with a bit more coordination than the first- almost mistaking a hologram of mayor Nightingale to be the real person, er, hybrid-, Verge coming in to deal with the surprise enemies that almost shot them at the last minute.
"Man, what took you so long?" Cherub asked, lowering his pistol which currently pointed to Verge.
"I had to unpack a breaching charge." Verge replied, lowering the two infiltraters to the ground.
"That's my man." Cherub said.
"Cherub." Godmother said in a warning tone.
"What? You know what mean, right Verge?"
"I always do." Verge said, slightly amused.
"Heh, so creepy, don't ever change." Terminal said.
~Verge POV~
Terminal tried hiding that she was injured, but I saw the slight limp in the way she walked.
"Terminal, your hurt." I said.
"So? I'm on the team, I can't be deadweight." She replied.
"Actually, you'll be deadweight if your wound is left untreated."
Terminal didn't say anything back, instead, she called her drone over and bandaged her leg.
~Terminal POV~
I hate you, figuratively speaking, but I'm going to ignore that I ever thought that. I thought.
"I heard that."
"What?"
"Your mind faintly projects your thoughts." He said. I was about to retort when Cherub spoke.
~Cherub~
"What's taking yall so long? We've got a job to do." While Verge had been talking with Terminal, Cherub had already placed another breaching charge.
"Coming!" They answered in unison, and came over to where Cherub was.
"Round three." Cherub said.
He detonated the explosives and rushed inside, firing at the closest enemy.
"Has help finally arrived? Oh thank goodness." A voice asked.
"Stay there mayor Nightingale, wait until we've dealt with the intruders." Godmother said.
Every agent quickly found spots, well, everyone but Cherub.
"I'll protect you, mayor Nightingale." He said, about to create a shield around her. Verge was shot before he could however, which diverted his attention long enough for him to fail in bringing up the shield and making him have to do it again before one of the insurgents fired a second time.
"Agent down!" Godmother shouted.
"On it!" Terminal said, however, it was at that moment that two of the insurgents decided to start shooting at her, causing her to be unable to help Verge.
Godmother shot at one of the intruders, clipping their arm. "Missed a shot."
"Shields up!" Cherub called out, firing right after springing an orange energy shield around Verge's unconscious body to protect him. The infiltrater fell that time, leaving Terminal a bit of room to move.
The insurgents shot at Cherub and Terminal, ignoring Godmother. She was ticked off about that, so she used her trademark gun technique and downed another enemy, but it wasn't the one that was shooting at Terminal.
~Terminal~
Verge was bleeding alot, if he didn't get medical attention soon, he'd be done for. Terminal realized. So, risking getting hurt as well, the medic ran to Verge and tried to bandage him up, however, without a good basic understanding of the body structure of a sectoid, she was next to useless.
Terminal realized that and settled for just stopping the bleeding while guns and grenades were fired and thrown around her.
"Damn, we need to end this fast." She said out loud. Raising her voice she said, "Can't do much for Verge, we need to finish this now."
~Cherub~
"Okay." Cherub ran as fast as he could to the nearest enemy and charged up his wrist shield, letting the energy flow thru it and then release upon contact with the intruder.
"Nice one, Cherub."
Godmother fired at the last insurgent, reloading once she was done. "We need to talk, mayor."
"Don't forget escorting." Cherub added.
"Right."
"I also have some things I'd like to say." Mayor Nightingale said.
She went on about how the insurgents that attacked her hadn't been able to do anything until recently, talking about her suspicions about someone backing them. Godmother listened intently.
"...City 31 was meant to show that humans and aliens can keep a lasting peace, I'm the public face of this. Tonight, someone wanted what I represent to go up in flames."
"Chimera squad will look into it, I promise." Godmother replied. "Now, may we escort you to the vehicle waiting outside?"
"Yes."
I told you there'd be tweaks!
