It's my birthday today, so, I decided to just post this fun little thing I wrote with my boyfriend on valentine's day. Expect more of these in the future~

Ben glared at the rain pounding on his living room window. He and Ruby had plans to go out for the day, but the weather decided otherwise. Ben sighed loudly, slumping into the couch.

...although he felt like he was forgetting something-OH SHIT RUBY WAS STILL OUTSIDE!

The second he realized that, he heard pounding against his front door.

"BEN!" Ruby screamed as she desperately tried to get inside. The two had been outside for just a moment and then in the next Ben was back inside and she stuck in the middle of a storm, and good god was she not dealing with another cold.

"Lemme in, lemme in, lemme iiiiin!"

"SHIT!" Ben immediately opened the door and Ruby darted into the room. Scatterings of rose petals flew behind her as she rushed towards the fireplace. Her body quickly curled up close to the fire, rubbing her arms to keep warm.

"...please don't kill me," Ben weakly squeaked, slowly approaching the fireplace.

"I-I-I soooooo want to right now!" Ruby shivered out as she tried to curl her hood around herself.

"Do...do you need a change of clothes?" Ben asked. "I can put yours in the dryer or something."

"Y-Yeah." Ruby just slowly got up, still dripping water onto the floor, but less so than earlier.

"Just slip into a bathroom and I'll hand you some of my old clothes," Ben instructed her. "I think they'll fit you."

Ruby quickly got up, still shivering, but quickly made her way upstairs to the bathroom. If one could hear closely, the sound of a loud "A-CHOO!" could be heard as the cold hit her hard.

"...well, shit. She's gonna kill me," Ben sighed as he grabbed some old jeans and a thin t-shirt. He held it up; the graphic on the front was a fairly popular cartoon mascot. It looked like it could fit Ruby well enough.

After taking a moment to get herself changed, the sound of the shower turning on could be heard. Ruby, still wanting to keep herself warm, decided that she would at least have a quick bath before putting on whatever Ben had for her. It seemed only fair.

Ben awkwardly sat downstairs, waiting for Ruby to finish. He really screwed up this time. Like, big time. There was no simple 'hug and make up' to a situation like this. Ben had to find a solution, and quick-

-his eyes drifted over to a blanket.

It was a fairly large one for the most part, one that could easily be compared to a king-size duvet cover...and Ben got a brilliant idea. One that would need multiple blankets.

Ben immediately rushed over to a closet in the hallway and dragged out every single blanket inside. He took a deep breath and quickly got to work on his masterpiece.

Ruby, meanwhile, had finished part of her shower and could sort of hear sounds of someone moving downstairs; for the most part she assumed Ben was grabbing some stuff.

Ben eventually heard the shower shut off, and walked upstairs to the bathroom door. He knocked, the bundle of clothes in his arms.

Ruby quickly looked toward the door before opening it lightly, clad in nothing but a towel. "You got the stuff?" she joked, putting on a slightly gruff voice.

"Yeah, I guess."

Ruby looked down to see...what she assumed to be Ben, holding her spare clothes. The alien in question was small, red, and bore a close resemblance to a gremlin or imp. He was small in stature and wore a cute little aviator suit.

Ruby just giggled at the cute lil' mascot on the front of Ben's old t-shirt before quickly taking the clothes. "No peeking, OK? Yang would actually kill you."

"What? I'm focused on something else right now." Ben grinned as he scurried back downstairs.

Ruby could clearly hear the chaos that was going on downstairs. It sounded like...Ben was...breaking a lot of shit.

"Uhhhh...?" Ruby decided to do the most logical thing and tried to ignore the noise until she was done changing. If it was anything that would get him in trouble then that was on him, though her mind did wonder at the possibilities. Perhaps he was breaking stuff on purpose to divert her attention? Or maybe he was mad? Or maybe it was something even worse?

Nah, he had his reasons. Ruby just shrugged and got back to drying her hair and changing.

...of course the more shit she heard breaking, the more her anxiety seemed to spike.

"Uh, Ben? There isn't anyone currently in the house trying to break stuff, right?" she asked as she poked her head out into the hallway.

"What? No! I'm trying to make something!" Ben yelled back. "Don't come down yet!"

"I'm comin' down!" Ruby exclaimed, her anxiety having peaked as she started to slowly walk down the stairs, unsure as to what the heck he was doing and why he needed to break more things than usual.

Ruby came downstairs to a literal building of blankets. This was no blanket fort, like the ones she and Yang made when they were kids. This was a blanket FORTRESS.

"Ah!" the gremlin gasped, holding some random pieces of tech. "I told you not to come down yet! I'm still building stuff!"

"Ben...?" Ruby's eyes had widened to the size of saucers, taking in the blanket fortress before her.

"...yes?"

"Whaaaaat the hell is this?!" She was excited, confused, and really, really into this.

"I, uh, took apart some stuff," Ben responded awkwardly. "This form is called Jury Rigg, and he's great at building stuff, so, uh..." Ben quickly put together the two pieces of technology in his hands and set it down. "I made a fort."

"You made a fort in the middle of the living room." Ruby was still slack jawed, though her tone of voice betrayed her.

"Yeah, I did." Ben grinned sheepishly. "You wanna come in?"

"HOLY SHIT DO I?" Ruby yelled as she bolted towards it. She was curious to see if Ben was able to do the age old Doctor Who technique of making it bigger on the inside.

"Yeah, Jury Rigg has a tendency to overdo everything," Ben explained as he jumped onto one of the support chairs.

Ruby looked around for the entrance and let out a soft hum. "Come oooon, where's the door to this place?"

Ben disappeared from view, and just as suddenly peered out from one of the blankets, sticking his tiny face out. "Through here!"

And just like that Ruby rushed her way inside, spiralling through the blanket fort and quickly landing on the soft, comfy interior that already gave her a sense of warmth.

"You like?" Ben asked.

"Oh my goooood, this is amazing!" Ruby grinned as she started to roll across the blankets.

"I'll take that as a yes." Ben smiled as he started to set up the little contraption he had just made.

"Eh?" She quickly looked up, wondering what Ben was trying to do but ultimately still focused on the very fluffy floor.

"I hope this one doesn't shoot lasers," Ben mumbled to himself.

Ruby gave Ben a strange look. "What?"

"Long story. Let's just say that Kevin's hair regrew faster than expected," Ben snickered.

Ruby snickered along with him before looking over the contraption in question. "So, what's it supposed to do?"

"You'll see." Ben grinned as he plugged in his phone. Suddenly, a projection of Toy Story shot out from the device and started to play on a single white sheet Ben had set up.

Ruby's eyes widened as she watched the beginning of one of her beloved childhood movies. "Oh my gosh, Ben!"

"Listen. The next time a storm comes around, you can totally lock me outside," Ben joked as he joined Ruby, happily snuggling his small body underneath a bunch of blankets.

Ruby laughed as she quickly started to wrap herself up in the blankets before letting out a soft sigh. "Ahhh, this is so good..."

"It's even better for me." Ben grinned, his little gremlin body starting to warm up.

"You tease." She laughed a little more before moving closer to the small alien. His body heat was surprisingly toasty, and he warmed the area around him easily.

"Shame about our plans for today," Ben sighed. "Honestly kind of wanted to do paintball."

"Listen, we got plenty of time to do paintball later...and besides, I kinda like just doing this." Ruby giggled before putting an arm around him, pulling him a little bit closer.

Ben blushed, cuddling against Ruby and getting lost in the movie.
