"After over three decades since Hope's Peak doors closed shut, they are finally ready to open back up to take in students. People are trying desperately to be noticed by the scouting agents. Especially with the promise of a guarantee in life, it's no wonder so many people are eager to try and get accepted."
That's what the news article placed neatly on the table read. Placed in such a way that anyone who sat down here would take direct notice of it. Ultimates… The one sitting down had the potential to be one. They had just been scouted by the school, and they were awaiting for the interview.
For now, the room remained empty. Nobody else was around, so the potential student was left to take in all that was in the room. From the looks of it, this office belonged to an Ultimate way back in the day. They could see that they had a plaque with their old title… Except… The plaque seemed damaged, and the talent was illegible. Not to mention it was at a distance anyways… They didn't want to snoop around too much and risk getting caught. Oh, but maybe it was worth the information they could glean from this. They stood up from their chair.
Just then, a woman walked into the room, coffee cup in hand. She sat down on the other end of the desk, looking through some papers.
Sitting down, the potential Ultimate looked over at the girl sitting across from him. She had short brown hair, and yellow eyes. She seemed like she might be a teacher at this school. After a few seconds of sorting through her pages, she finally acknowledged the person sitting across from her. "Yes, sorry. Welcome. I was just looking at some of our other potential students. We've scouted a lot of people, so now it's down to figuring out who we actually wanted."
Listening to what they had to say, she offered a smile. "Most refer to me as Ms. Welsh, but you can call me Caroline." She looked through some of her papers, before she finally pulled out the ones she wanted.
"Let's start the interview. I have only a few questions to ask you." Taking a quick look through the papers. "Oh? That's an interesting Ultimate talent. Haven't had one of those before… Though, I suppose with how long ago Hope's Peak was, it makes sense…" Looking through the file some more. "So, it says here…" She trailed off, looking at the section deeply. "Oh… So you're interested in one of our new programs, aren't you?"
After the answer was given, she slowly nodded her head. "I didn't think we'd have anyone interested in something like that right off the bat. However, I will warn you, it's a very new project, so it might not end up working out. There's a chance it never gets its feet off the ground." Her doubts slowly formed into a smile. "Although, it's nice to see some people have the same aspirations as I do."
"Next question." She didn't even bother reading the file for this. Maybe it was a personal interest of hers. "How likely are you to trust others?" Pause. "Oh, don't give me that look. Most Ultimates in the past were focused on their own success, and rarely tried to rely on people. If push comes to shove, do you think you could put your trust in someone else."
Another pause, and they answered. "I see…" She marked that down. "Not very, it seems. Nothing wrong with that. There needs to be doubt in the heart at some points. Putting blind faith in anyone could prove disastrous." She finally placed the pencil down. "To take everything at face value isn't a way to live. However, on the other hand, never trusting anyone ever could prove just as unhealthy…" She let out a small sigh. Maybe something she knew from personal experience.
Moving on, she read further into the file. "So, what motivations do you have to become an Ultimate? Sure, there is a scouting process, but some people set out to become one far before we ever lay eyes on them. Although it's weird to see someone do that in this day and age… Especially after…" She stopped speaking. "Well… you know… The tragedies…"
There was a breath pause as she heard the answer she was given. "You… don't know about the tragedies? Have you been living under a rock the entire…" She cut herself off. She was getting off track. She only had ten minutes with every person who was scouted. And then she had to make a choice. "Nevermind… Let's get back to the question. Why would you want to become an Ultimate?"
Another pause to receive the answer. "Interesting…" She marked it down. "Can't say you would be the first to want to become an Ultimate for that reason. It's a completely understandable reason…" She tapped her chin with the pen, reading over the rest of the file. "Hmm…" Something had caught her interest, but she chose to let it slide. "Everything seems alright to me. Much fewer questions than I thought I would have. That can either be a blessing, or a curse." She stood up. "It just means I've made up my mind quicker than I would with most." She extended her hand. "It's looking good for you, though. You'll receive a letter if you've been accepted in about a week. I look forward to seeing you again… If you are accepted."
The girl left the room, leaving the supposed Ultimate all alone. But, they had almost gotten caught the first time, so they weren't going to risk snooping around again. Slowly, they stood up, and made their way out of the room.

"Congratulations, you've been chosen to attend the new Hope's Peak Academy." The letter explained. "You should consider yourself lucky as one of the very few who will be able to say they had that experience. Class will begin on September 5th 20-" The person who was holding the letter was currently blocking that off with their thumb. No mention of the Ultimate talent was shown in this letter. And if it was, it was being blocked off.
But that wasn't the only letter that they had gotten. There was one more, attached to this one.
"Not only have you been chosen as an Ultimate, but you have managed to be accepted into the program-" Once again, the finger was blocking off the name of it. "We hope for your full cooperation in the future."
Putting the letter away, the figure slowly took a look at the sky. Their focus was on the moon. After staring at it for a bit, they closed the letter and began walking back to their house.

The atmosphere around was eerie. It was quiet. Only a few sounds could be heard, like the humming of machinery.
The only other sound that was audible were footsteps of a figure walking down the hallway. They had knee high pink and white boots that added some metallic clanks to the eerie quiet.
In their hands, a tablet that they were tapping away at. Occasionally they'd look up from it to see where they were.
Still in the hallway.
They stopped by a window, taking a moment to glance outside. The scenery of space was so beautiful. A bit of debris floated by, but they didn't concern themselves with that.
As they kept walking down the hallway, they arrived at a closed door. To the side of it was a scanner.
Using their tablet, they pressed it against the scanner. After a few seconds, the door rose up.
It didn't stay open for long, closing as soon as they stepped through.
Entering the room, many different smaller rooms were visible, all with similar doors to the one they just opened.
Scanning their tablet on every scanner, the doors opened one by one. The only difference is that they stayed open. After every door opened, the scanner displayed the word "Vacant".
Once every door was open, they reached the end of the room, where a large monitor took up a large portion of the wall.
After examining what was on screen for a bit, they began to type away.
With every new command, the station slowly came to life, whether it be lights, or more machines turning on.
After they had successfully gotten the entire station started, they locked up the computer and stepped away.
It was finally time to get this project off its feet.
Hey what up guys! Otterplay here, bringing you my first ever SYOC! It's something I've never done, despite wanting to do them for years. This whole thing is all thanks to GoldEmblem :O or SilverMark, whatever he calls himself nowadays. Seeing his story take up off the ground and reach Chapter 5 allowed me to get in gear and start my own. Huge shout-out to him! If you haven't already, check out his Corrupted Hope fic. It's almost peak fiction.
Anyways, enough about giving someone else praise, time to talk about my story. This is a story set a few decades into the future, and if you couldn't tell by the intro, it happens in space. I won't give much else besides the two themes. The main theme will be Truth VS Ideals, also Reality VS Fantasy. The secondary theme will be Trust VS Doubt.
Below is the application. This application is going to be two parter. Don't worry about the second part, you'll only have to do it if I accept your character.
The second part is an interview that you'll answer as your character. This helps me figure out how they talk, and might get me some extra information I wouldn't otherwise know by just an application.
Send the applications via FF, unless you know me on Discord. If you are sending them to Fanfiction, label the message Algorithmic Alteration - Ultimate Talent.
You are allowed to send multiple characters, but I'll only accept one per person.
I'm aiming to accept 18 characters, but if I feel like I must, I'll extend that to 20.
Your deadline is the 1st of February. If you need an extension, just message me about it.
Here are a few rules to follow.
1) Please don't copy your character from other media. There has been issues of people sending carbon copies of existing characters.
2) If your character has a big plot twist attached to them, and they have been used elsewhere, I don't want the surprise to be ruined, so don't send them here.
3) I reserve the right to reject a character I don't want to use, or can't use. I'll let you know if the character has been declined. They can be for a variety of reasons, I'll make sure you let you know which reason.
