Panama, 1904.
A Horse Drawn carriage approached a camp full of tents, the clattering of their hooves against the mud was easily heard, some men in the tents, awake at the hour, watched as it approached under the dim moonlight. Sun had set, and despite the hot sun of Panama they had gotten a good bit of work done. It was one of the first days of the immense project's construction, and despite almost no progress being made that was to be expected, fifty miles of land would have to be cut through to make this work, complex machinery and devices installed to make it work too.
As the carriage pulled up to the tents, a door swung open, and out through it stepped a figure dressed in a rich attire. He was obviously wealthy, or a political figure, as no one else in the camp was dressed so elegantly. He stood tall and straight, with a tophat and a monocle. He looked like your standard rich man of the period, mostly because he was.
He let out a cough, and then spoke with a very western accent, probably Texan, but most certainly the classic cowboy one.
"I expected more of a welcome down 'ere." The Rich man said, "Who do you think blew money to pay for all these fancy bells n whistles?"
One of the other men, presumably the man in charge, came forth.
"Welcome, Mr. Rutherford." The Man spoke with a Heavy Japanese accent.
"Ehh…I was told about you, What was your name…Serishowa?" Mr. Rutherford asked.
"It's Serizawa." Serizawa corrected.
"Alright, got it. The First thing you need to know about me is how to properly address me." Rutherford said. "Me, and my company, put quite a lot of money into this project, chances are those shovels you've been digging with were bought by us, those crates of Dynamite? Bought with our money, almost everything you have here is thanks to me so from now on I will be addressed as 'SIr Rutherford', Got it?" Rutherford demanded.
Serizawa was quite intelligent, he knew most of what Rutherford was saying was true, however much he despised men like him, who seemed to think their status as rich made them superior to others. They embodied almost always the worst qualities of mankind.
But Serizawa knew he had to play nice, although he was not even particularly high in the command structure this visit would make a lasting impression on the Investor.
"Welcome, Sir Rutherford then." Serizawa said.
"A Good Welcome then." Rutherford said he looked around at the men of different nationalities. They all seemed to tell their own stories, and their faces were also field with sweat and dust from all the mining they had set in the first batch of tnt today to detonate a mountainside.
"I trust our funding has been put to good use." Rutherford asked.
"Yes it has, we are preparing to crack open the first mountainside Tonight in a few minutes." Serizawa said as Rutherford scratched his chin, His eyes glinting in the moonlight.
"Why don't we begin now?" Rutherford asked, "It won't hurt at all to just get it over with earlier, will it?"
"The Explosives are already in place." Serizawa explained, "But that doesn't mean you should go around blowing up stuff, It's a dangerous task, particularly at night." Serizawa told him.
"If you're not up to it, we can always enforce more strict schedules, perhaps cut pay for additional equipment." Rutherford said.
"I Didn't Suggest That!" Serizawa said.
"Then I suggest we get moving to reach these explosive detonators, I have to make sure my investment pays off as quickly as possible after all." Rutherford said, and Serizawa looked around him at the tired men, all the digging done today had taken a toll on them, but he and they had no choice but to comply, and it wouldn't be too much trouble since all they had to do was pull the detonator.
"Alright, Sir." Serizawa said, hiding the disdain from his voice. He nodded to the other men, who grabbed their lamps and led down the dirt path. The Sting of Mosquitoes was a worry on his mind, given they were a problem here due to their diseases and just how many they were.
Finally, they reached the detonator device.
"Would you like to do the Honor?" Serizawa suggested.
"That would be your job." Rutherford said coldly, Serizawa wondered why this man seemed so hostile, perhaps it was greed, spoiling, the power going to his head.
"Yes sir…" He said in a low voice, with more force than necessary he pushed the lever which controlled the detonator down. Only a second or two later there was a colossal explosion as the Dynamite embedded in the mountainside exploded. Massive bursts of flames as each was set off nearly simultaneously, chucks of rock being thrown out as boulders thrown free fell to the ground. The Orange light of it lit up the surrounding landscape, and only seconds later it was done, just dust settling with flames licking at grass that had survived.
"An impressive display, I see my money will be made back sooner than I thought." Rutherford said, and Serizawa, still facing away from him at the mountainside, scowled.
Suddenly there was another boom, far louder than the explosions they just set off. He stared at the mountainside confused, then with horror as he saw it begin to break apart. Cracks laced around it as trees were uprooted by an unknown force, rocks torn open and thrown as the entire mountain collapsed, dust and smoke hid the sight but he saw some part of it was still standing.
No, that wasn't the mountain.
It was a creature, easily 300 feet tall, if not higher. Jet black with scales and massive Dorsals that resembled that of a Shark, but far more numerous and on a different scale. He couldn't see much else, but it was with even more horror he saw it began to move, its towering form suddenly lumbering slowly as if groggy. Its massive feet came down, crushing a worker nearby.
He knew that man, he had a family back home! His name was Patrick Beran, he was only 24….
…and he had just been crushed. He stared at its intimidating form as it receded, both slowly and with great speed, into the nearby Waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
His family had passed down legends, myths he thought of the ancient past. A Great Titan, both a monster and hero…
…Gojira!'
This is my first Godzilla fic so its probably not gonna be very good, but if you want to imagine Godzilla here just imagine the 2014 version of him.
