The Doctor stared at the trio, his forearm resting against the doorway of the blue box. He stared at each of the three people in front of them, two seemingly from different periods, primarily the boy and the girl. He rubbed his chin, attempting to pinpoint when and where he was. Judging by the appearance of Jeanne he assumed he was in France, most likely before she joined them, due to her more feminine appearance. That still didn't explain her armor, however.
The long-haired girl threw him into another loop, with the oversized shield she held. "Is this some sort of convention?" He asked to make sure they weren't just dressing up, though the boy's clothing was a bit too casual.
The boy raised an eyebrow, starting at the Doctor. "No," the boy answered in a somewhat long and dramatic fashion.
Jeanne stared at the Doctor with awe, looking at the angel she met all those years ago, standing in the very same box she met him in. "Doctor," she muttered slightly, earning the attention of the ginger.
"Ah, Jeanne, it's good to see you again, how long it's been," the Doctor asked to get a good sense of when he was. The boy pointed between the two confused.
"Do they know each other?" the boy asked the pink-haired girl.
"I do not know, Senpai. My knowledge of Jeanne d'Arc is minimal," the girl answered, perking the Doctor's curiosity a second. The way she said it sounded like she was speaking of a story, which the Doctor found curious.
Jeanne looked at the Doctor for a second, before giving a soft smile. "It's been far too long," she answered. The Doctor kept his smile, but mentally he had a grimace since that didn't help him much.
"Of course it has! How fighting the British has been working for you, I assume bloody exhausting," The Doctor laughed a bit, and then he noticed the smile on Jeanne's face disappear. It changed to a frown.
"I assume it went well, though we have a different problem now," Jeanne began, looking down slightly. The Doctor was left speechless, she was speaking in the past tense, which left him with more questions.
The boy looked at the Doctor, stepping forward toward him and the blue box. "Who are you, and why did a police box fall from the sky,"
The Doctor turned his attention from Jeanne toward the boy. "I'm the Doctor, and this is my ride the TARDIS," he said knocking on the door frame. The boy just stared at him and then looked behind him to see everything on fire.
"Doctor Who, and a what?" the boy asked confused, looking toward the girl in answer who shrugged, giving a face just as or more confused than he was.
"Just the Doctor," the Doctor said stepping completely out of the box and shutting it to the door. Fire shot out from the edges of the door, causing his eyes to widen slightly. "The TARDIS: Time and Relative Dimensions In Space, and it is currently under," the Doctor paused for a moment as fire shot out again, "repairs."
The two couldn't believe half the stuff he was saying since it didn't make sense. Was he a time traveler or an alien? Judging by the name of the box it was implied, and there was sure as hell no way for it to be in the 1400s. At first, the boy thought it was a servant, but then again Mash and Jeanne would've noticed; at least that was what he was told.
Jeanne stepped forward toward them. "He is an angel, he put me on my path to helping France," Jeanne explained hoping that explained everything.
"I think we need to contact Roman," the boy muttered to the pink-haired girl.
"I agree, Senpai," the girl muttered back in a hushed tone.
Outside Lyop, France
1431
A man walked just outside of town, along a long and somewhat treacherous dirt road. He was whistling to himself, holding a bucket in his hand and an axe on his shoulder. His hair blew with the wind, alongside the luscious green grass next to him. It felt nice, though the man knew of the ongoing conflict throughout the rest of France. Along the horizon, smoke rose into the sky, mixing with the clouds.
The man had a rather large smile, and in front of him, there was the sound of a trotting horse, just as he entered the border to the woods. Another man was riding a carriage; the carriage was rather plain, just wood with fruits loaded in the back of it. The man in the carriage seemed rather old, with silver hair a beard, and a decent amount of wrinkles on his face
"Good afternoon, monsieur," the man on the carriage greeted.
"Good afternoon to you as well," the man with an axe said in return.
"Where are you off to?" the other man asked with curiosity in his voice, stopping the carriage next to the axe-wielding man.
"I am just going to cut some wood for the fire," the man responded with a slight chirp in his voice. The other let out a small sigh, his face becoming serious.
"I heard the roars of drakes heading to the woods, so I think you should be careful, monsieur," the man in the carriage warned, his wrinkled face growing serious.
"I should be fast enough before they get here, besides, I'm more worried about bandits than dragons," the younger man admitted.
The old man hummed to himself before letting out a deep sigh. "Then be careful," the old man said before snapping the reins and the carriage went off.
The man watched the old man leave before marching deeper into the woods. It was far darker and much more eerie, with little sunlight reaching the barely living grass. The man was searching for small trees, which seemed to be few and far between.
The further he went into the woods, the more it felt like he was being watched by something. He heard the small pitter-patter of animals. Leaves rustled behind him causing him to jerk his body around. There were distant roars, followed by footsteps far closer than he thought.
"Why does this place need to be so creepy," he asked himself, seeing a small tree. It was barely alive and dry, with the bark coming off as the man ran his hand through it. "Perfect."
He placed the bucket down and stepped back a bit. He raised his axe into the air and slammed it against the trunk. He did it over and over until it fell, and continued to hack it into smaller pieces.
The pitter-patter returned right behind him but remained unnoticed. This was soon followed by the sound of slight growling. With the growl, something appeared on the tree just behind the man. It had dozens of legs like a centipede, though from its torso was more human. It crawled toward the man, raising its body to be taller than him. Its four-finger hand opened revealing four holes in it. Tendrils shot from the holes like a turtle from its shell. Its glowing green eyes stared down at the human before the tendrils wrapped around his neck.
Screams came from the man, who struggled in the creature's grip. He jerked around as the tendrils grew tighter, his breath fading, his flesh decaying, and then suddenly nothing. What remained was a dehydrated and malnourished corpse. Two more creatures crawled in front of the first, both letting out a small growl, leading the first to nod before crawling away and disappearing without a trace.
Jura, France
1931
Ritsuka, the young boy with black hair; and Mash, the pink-haired, shield-wielding girl walked with Jeanne who marched onward next to the Doctor. Ritsuka noticed that the single seemed to be wearing women's clothes. They were surrounded by trees and shadows everywhere they walked.
"So what happened to you while I was gone," the Doctor asked with a curious tone. Jeanne looked at him with her usual small and humble smile.
"Well after you left I continued to help my family, but soon after I decided to start trying to help stop the British any way I could. I joined the military and soon I was leading armies under the will of God. Then the British took me and prosecuted me, and burnt me at the stake. I hold no ill will towards them of course, if God thought it was my time, then I accept that. You should know most of that being my guardian angel" Jeanne explained, with the Doctor nodding until a certain detail set in.
He looked over at Jeanne with an utterly baffled look. "If they burned you, then how are you still here?" the Doctor asked.
"Well I am a part of the Throne of Heroes, and I was summoned here as a Servant to stop whatever is going on here in France," Jeanne explained with a small hint of a declaration.
The Doctor hummed to himself as more questions popped into his head. "A way to come back from the dead? Could that be possible," he asked himself.
Ritsuka watched their backs as they walked in front of them. "Hey, could we stop here for a moment, we need to contact someone," he asked rather politely.
Jeanne stopped turning with a small smile, while the Doctor kept walking consumed by thought. Jeanne, Mash, and Ritsuka watched him for a second. "Doctor?" Jeanne called out to the ginger causing them to stop in their tracks. Turning around, his face turned to one of embarrassment after the realization set in.
The Doctor cursed under his breath when something peculiar happened. Not because it was something the Doctor hadn't seen anything like, no he had seen it many times; it was the fact that this happened in the 1400s. A hologram of a man in a lab coat appeared, sparking the Doctor's curiosity.
"So they aren't from here," he muttered going into his white coat and pulling out his Sonic Screwdriver, which went unnoticed by the group.
The man looked at the boy and the pink-haired girl. "So what do you need," he asked in a laid-back manner.
"Dr. Romani, we would like help identifying someone," Mash asked kindly while the Doctor walked up behind the Doctor with an observant expression.
"Who?" Romani asked raising an eyebrow.
"Him," Ritsuka responded pointing behind Romani. The man turned to see the ginger analyzing the hologram with great curiosity.
Romani jumped a bit from shock, looking at the mysterious man. "I told them I'm the Doctor," the ginger said examining the other doctor's holographic body. "It seems to be a modified 2045 long-range holographic projector, though I won't be sure unless I scan it with my Sonic Screwdriver."
Romani glanced back at the two, with a nervous look in his eye, glancing down at the Doctor. "Who are you?"
"Are you an idiot, I just said I'm the Doctor," the Doctor paused for a moment before golden most leaked from his mouth. "I still don't know his I like being rude."
Romani seemed somewhat appalled, grossed out, and entranced by this person spiting gold from their mouth. "Doctor Who?"
"Just the Doctor," he replied flicking his Sonic Screwdriver and it lit up with a yellow light, making a weird humming noise. He started down at it for a second.
"He's weird," Ritsuka muttered, "Though not as strange as Roman," he added referring to Romani, who turned with a hurt look.
"Please be nicer, Senpai," Mash requested before seeing the scrunched-up face of confusion on the Doctor.
"Hey," Roman shouted at the young boy while the Doctor paced slightly, staring down at his Sonic Screwdriver.
The three saw the Doctor's confused expression grow more and more. "Who are you, you are not from around here," he asked.
Mash and Ritsuka looked at each other and then at the Doctor, who had rather expressive looks on their face. "I can say the same for you," Ritsuka muttered.
The Doctor crossed his arms and gave a small look at the boy. "I told you who I am. The only reason I'm asking you now is because it piqued my curiosity, next to the strange wording in your sentences," he explained matter-of-factly, with a slightly irritated tone.
Roman cleared his throat, looking at the ginger. Mash stepped forward slightly, opening her mouth, and cutting off Dr. Roman. "We are a part of Chaldea, our goal is to protect humanity and its history,"
"That would explain the strange clothing since I'm assuming you are time travelers, but did you get a time machine, humanity should have access to that," the Doctor muttered to no one in particular, before he suddenly stopped, golden mist left his mouth causing him to cough softly.
The hologram of Roman suddenly had wide eyes. "There was a sudden spike in energy," Roman noted with Mash nodding as well.
"I felt it too," Mash noted, "but it was not mana or a Servant, what was that?"
The Doctor beat his chest clearing his throat when Jeanne suddenly interjected. "It was heavenly energy, I remembered he called it regen... regenerate"
"Regeneration energy, its residue from... actually how would I explain it to you? Never mind, just note that it is harmless." the Doctor said waving them away. He received strange looks from Ritsuka and Mash while Jeanne kept her rather humble smile.
Before anyone could ask any more questions, Roman spoke. "Um, I think we have some guests of the unwelcome variety heading toward our location," Roman noted.
Mash raised her shield and Jeanne readied her... flagpole? Ritsuka stepped back and the hologram disappeared. The Doctor with a curious look on his face pulled and flicked the Sonic Screwdriver on. From the woods reptilian beasts with two large wings as arms appeared. Its mouth leaked fire as it glared at the group.
"A dragon," Ritsuka muttered.
"No, a wyvern, due to the fact it only has four limbs, that being its legs and wings. Dragons have six with four legs and two wings, sometimes eight depending on the myth," the Doctor corrected tapping the Sonic Screwdriver which lit up gold. He stepped toward the wyvern, pressing the sonic toward the reptilian, with Jeanne attempting to stop him. The wyvern seemed confused. "Bloody hell, you aren't made up of flesh and blood, but some kind of energy... so what is the cause for this energy forming into a beast like you I wonder?"
Before he could continue his rant the wyvern breathed a small breath of fire, melting the Sonic Screwdriver. The Doctor stood there speechless while Jeanne pulled him back. "Doctor, be careful!" she ordered now standing in front of the ginger and the wyvern.
"I think we should run," the Doctor muttered dumbfounded for a moment. Ritsuka stepped back and nodded.
Mash stepped back with Ritsuka as more wyverns appeared from the forest one by one. "I think that would be the best course of action. Senpai, what do you think?"
"I agree," Ritsuka started quickly and suddenly they started running farther into the forest.
