Chapter 12

Planet Yardrat

Yardrats were strange humanoids whose entire bodies are covered by straw-colored, very fine fur, with the exception of their long, tail-like, hairless and bulb-tipped tentacles which are used to speak.

I once thought the people who lived on Yardrat were isolationist, but they're actually very nice people.

I should know because they used to help me in my rebellious acts against my father. They were one of the main reasons why survivors existed after a planet was targeted for an "acquisition"

And all that was possible because of one technique. Instant transmission. A skill that made them the undisputed fastest transportation across the galaxy.

"Is that little Kuriza?" Said a blue Yardrat wearing a dress "I haven't seen you in years. Look how much you've grown!"

"Yeah, I guess I grew up a little." The small Yardrat patted me on my back.

"Wow, I remember you being half your size," a passing Yardrat shouted.

"Yes, indeed I've heard my grandson has returned!" Said a voice behind me. Turning around I saw my old friend Gingeera, the patriarch of Yardrat.

"It's been too long Kuriza."

"Old man, you still look the same after all these years." The two laughed for a moment until Kuriza became serious.

"Good to see you again Gramps, but unfortunately this isn't a friendly visit." I bowed my head to the patriarch. "Please train me in your ways!"

Gingeera smiled for a brief second before dropping it "Sure!"

"That easy?"

"We are a planet of peace. Our way of life is based off of unity, joy, and peace. We cannot teach our techniques to others if we are afraid that they will use it for evil. However, you are no stranger to us. I trust you and know you'll only use it for good." He leaned on his walking stick.

"Besides we can't have the next patriarch of this planet to not know our signature technique."

At this I deadpanned.

"You still on that Gramps? I already told you I'm not interested. Even if I was my race doesn't exactly have the right equipment for that type of arrangement." I sighed

Back during my rebellious acts I rescued a group of yardrat children from a group of crunked up frieza soldiers on leave.

If you've ever been to a frat party then imagine those hyped up frat boys but give them super powers. It could've easily ended in tragedy if I have never shown up and stopped them.

Apparently one of the yardrats was the chiefs daughter who after seeing me heroically saving them grew a crush on me. She was the primary reason I even got into contact with these guys.

No matter how many times I keep reminding him the chief never seems to listen or care.

"Hahaha, well regardless we should at least make it official sometime." He leaned back on his cane

"So why do you need this power anyways kid? You never asked us before even when we wanted to teach you."

I explained to him my encounter with Uncle Cooler and how he was able to surprise me with instant transmission.

"Hmm, That does sound concerning, if you know how to manipulate ki to some extent it's entirely possible to achieve it on your own. Though it should've taken him decades to learn it if he only knows a small portion of it. someone must've have taught him. Has he ever displayed this technique before?"

I shook my head

"It was the first time I've even seen him using it." I felt ashamed. All that training seemed to have gone to waste.

I need to work harder

The elderly Yardrat placed a hand on my shoulder. "Hey don't beat yourself up too harshly about it, kid. There are plenty of people with stronger ki levels than you who still haven't even begun to tap into the potential you've unlocked. It's amazing that you're already learning so many abilities at a young age."

I looked up from the ground at the smiling alien in front of me. "You really think so?"

The yardrat nodded. "Absolutely. Now let's start your training. First is spirit Control!"

"Spirit what!?"

Training with Gingeera

Instant Transmission is the ability to transport oneself anywhere within one's range of sensing energy signatures without traversing physical distance, often requiring intense mental discipline to properly harness.

And apparently this was only a basic technique one can achieve with something called spirit control.

"There are five stages of Spirit Control Kuriza, each of which increases in difficulty as well as the benefits each stage brings. Each stage is progressively named; Spirit Zone, Instinctual Detection, Spirit Search, Hyper-Focus, and finally Precision Mode.

I listened intently as Gingeera described what the process of controlling one's spirit was like.

"Imagine trying to move your fingers but you don't have them, try to understand what that means and you'll begin to unlock the true essence of your spiritual awareness."

Now while that did sound simple, it turned out to be one of the hardest things I had ever tried to do in my entire life. For Hours, days, maybe even weeks I was attempting to sense and grasp my own spirit but none of that yielded any results.

"I still don't understand how I'm supposed to do this?! Everytime I feel like I got it and summon my ki it's incorrect?!

"Calm down Kuriza and concentrate on my voice." Gingeera calm tone reverberated through the empty chamber we were practicing in. "What is it you have to do again?"

"I have to visualize myself moving a hand without fingers but I can't seem to picture that."

Gramps let out a soft chuckle before continuing.

"Listen to the world around you, Try and envision where everything is. Close your eyes and use every single other sense you have to guide you."

Doing as he said I closed my eyes and took in a deep breath. At first, nothing happened, but after a while I was able to slowly hear the wind outside the building. I was able to pick up the various voices throughout the town as well as the wildlife living around us.

But it was the smallest noise I noticed when I had finally understood the concept.

Woosh

Opening my eyes, I realized that my senses were combined with each other allowing me to have an overall image of what was happening around me.

"Gingeera, I think I got it?" I said tentatively.

"Now try to summon your energy, but try to keep that concentration up."

Doing just that I attempted to form a small amount of ki in my palm. Surprisingly a much larger amount appeared.

"Woah!" Gramps walked towards me and somehow took control of the large ball of ki.

"Good job Kuriza, what you just entered was a state of mind called spirit zone. This allows you to utilize your ki without any energy being wasted."

He snapped his fingers causing my ki to vanish

"Although this is only the first step it takes quite a bit of practice to attain."

"Great now we can move on to the next step right?"

Gingeera burst out laughing

"Who said we were done?"

"What!?"

"Think of the level of control you have in your body in normal combat, and then compare that to when you are in a meditative trance."

I was stumped. While meditating I could barley keep that state of mind. I can't imagine having to do it while fighting.

"For now Kuriza continue to practice, and eventually it will click."

I could only sigh and slump over.

"What a drag…"

Hey guys I'm back to this story after almost a year! …….yeah sorry about that I've been so focused on wanting to improve as a writer and began to shun this story due to it being one of my earlier works. But after reading through it again I realized it wasn't that bad! Other than the Grammer errors (I will fix those later!) It has reinvigorated my passion for this story. Screw the haters!

If you guys are interested in buying me a coffee I would appreciate it! Just delete the spaces.
