He dug his toes deep into the cold, sandy shore, his dark blue eyes fixated on the crashing waves. Amidst the vastness of the ocean, he found solace, a rare refuge from the chaos that encompassed his life. As he tightened his grip on his shoes, a glimmer of serenity sparked within him.
The sky painted a breathtaking canvas as the sun kissed the horizon, casting vibrant hues of oranges and reds that gracefully mingled with the sparkling sea. His tense and weary body found solace in this serene scene, a temporary respite from the darkness that consumed him. A small smile graced his dry lips as he allowed himself a moment of tranquil reflection. Though it quickly changed when his gaze unexpectedly fell upon the dark blue hedgehog that had silently approached him, helping the fox to come back to his senses as his body tensed up, on guard once again. Recalling the mission both are in.
He reacted instinctively, his expression masking all emotions. Sonic's eyes remained fixed ahead, a sternness etched upon his face. He absentmindedly slipped a hand into the pocket of his black leather jacket while the other rose to his mouth, clutching a cigarette. Inhaling deeply, he exhaled with a sigh of relief, the smoke dissipating in the chilly air.
Sonic extended his hand towards Tails, his eyes never wavered from the breathtaking sight before them. Nudging the cigarette forward, his senses heightened as a strong breeze swept past them, carrying the scent of the sea. Although it was much too cold to be near the beach, Sonic appeared unaffected. It was their previous battle having inadvertently dropped them here. Tails felt proud that he was the one Sonic chosed instead of Knuckles to help in the fight. It meant a lot to him. That meant he finally able to get his faith.
It's not like the hedgehog is the type to go hunt for sightseeing. But he seemed to taking in the breathtaking view today. Which is new, the hedgehog never let himself stop for a second to... relax.
Tails eyed the outstretched hand cautiously, his voice filled with hesitancy. "You know I don't smoke--"
Sonic scoffed dismissively, using a scowling tone. "Don't be a coward, Tails. Taking one whiff won't kill you," he persisted.
He tried not to hesitate when under the dark hedgehog's precence. Which was hard. Even a grown man would stutter with his aura. Tails stiffened, "I'll pass. I choose not to engage."
Sonic's gaze sharpened, his eyes narrowing. "Your loss," he muttered, tossing the cigarette to the ground and crushing it beneath his shoe, causing the fox's tails to flick uncomfortably. "That's enough talk for today! Let's get going."
Tails glared at his own shoes, "Tornado is ruined, its in no condition to fly--"
"Then we just have to run."
Tails tightly closed his fists, getting ready for a scowling with the next words he will use to barely remind his own foible, "Sonic... I can't keep up with you on land."
Sonic stuffed his hands in his jacket pockets, frustration lacing his voice. "All I hear are excuses, kid!"
Grimacing, Tails reluctantly accepted his predicament, realizing there was no other choice but to run back with his ruined shoes. Just as he was about to take action, his ears perked up, catching a flicker of what Sonic said next. "Well, you're in luck. We're running out of time. For today only, you can fly while I run." He knowingly smirked.
Tails' eyes widened with hope, quickly straightening himself. It's been such a long time since he flied on his own. "Understood. I'll be right by your side. I'll be on guard to make sure nothing comes along to slow you down. Thank you, Sonic!"
Sonic side-glanced him, his tone curt. "Don't thank me, kid. Take it or lose it." With that, he sprinted off in a flash, leaving Tails in sand.
He tightened his fists and bit down on his lip, drawing blood.
He wiped it away with a dark gaze. "I'll take it then." Determined not to waste another moment, he gathered his energy and, with a swift flick of his tails, propelled himself into the sky, soaring alongside the indomitable blue blur.
