What's up readers? VickyT36 here with another Ninjago fanfic, starring my OC Opal. Enjoy!
It had been a few months since the Ninja stopped the Plague Doctor, and Cole was now dating Opal Lancaster, the nurse who'd helped him and the rest of the team. The two were enjoying being with each other, and Opal found herself spending time with the whole team.
One morning, Opal arrived for her shift at the hospital. In the faculty locker room, she had just put her purse in her locker, when her boss, head nurse Nurse Ursula Rachet came in.
"Ah, good morning Opal." she greeted.
"Good morning, Nurse Rachet." Opal greeted back.
"Ready to help treat some patients?"
"I'm ready."
"Then let's go."
And the two nurses left the locker room to get to work. All day they saw assisted doctors, and helped weed out the patients that really needed help and the crazies that just wanted attention.
Opal herself was pretty busy. She bandaged wounds, gave checkups, assisted in surgeries and baby deliveries, stitched up cuts, and comforted patients. When her shift was over, she got ready to leave.
"Plans for after work, Opal?" asked another nurse.
"I'm going out bowling with Cole and the rest of the Ninja." she told.
"It must be really cool dating a Ninja."
"It is. And the others are great too." Opal replied.
That evening, Opal was with everyone at the bowling ally. Cole had just rolled the ball down the aisle, and got a strike.
"And that's another strike for the Earth Ninja!" he cheered.
"That's great Cole." Opal told him.
"Looks like you have a lucky charm, Cole." Jay said, referring to Opal.
The two smiled at hearing that. Then when the guys went to go get some food from the concession stand.
"Hey, Opal the girls and I are going out tomorrow." said Nya.
"Oh really?"
"Yeah, we're going to lunch." told Harumi.
"Sounds nice. I'm in."
"Great, it'll be nice for you to join us." Skylor said.
Opal smiled, this was going to be fun.
The next day, Opal joined the other girls for lunch. Instead of going to the usual Chen's Noodle House, they went to a taco place. They found a table, and a waiter took their order. After ordering, they began talking.
"I was practicing my water powers, and I accidentally sprayed Master Wu." Nya told.
"(Laughs), I hope he wasn't too upset." Harumi said.
"No, he was fine."
Opal was about to bring in her own story about how a patient accidentally squirted one of her co-workers. But then decided against it, because a restaurant probably wasn't the best place to tell her work stories.
"I managed to fix up the Samurai X suit, and even added some upgrades." Pixal told.
"That's great, Pixal. You're a good engineer after Nya of course." Skylor complimented.
As the rest of the ladies talked about Ninja training or tech stuff, Opal stayed quiet. It was awkward, and she hoped that the food would be brought soon. Luckily it was, and they all started eating.
When they finished eating, they paid, and left.
"Well I had a nice time." said Harumi.
"So did I. What about you, Opal?" asked Pixal.
"Oh, yes very nice." Opal replied.
"We should definitely do this again." Nya declared.
And they decided to meet again this time to go shopping. While the others looked excited, Opal just forced a smile.
From then on, whenever Opal hung out with the rest of the girls she found herself fading into the background. The others would talk about their powers, the adventures they'd been on, and the training they do.
It made Opal feel a little left out. Her stories about the hospital seemed to pale in comparison to the stories of how the others help save Ninjago. Then she began to wonder, if she truly fit in with the Ninja crowd.
On another day, Opal was with everyone at the monastery. The guys were playing video games, and the girls were watching them.
"You're dead, Jay." Kai told.
"Don't count your chickens before they hatch, Kai." Jay replied back.
As the boys played, the girls watched. While it was nice, Opal couldn't help but feel like she didn't belong there. She then excused herself to go get a drink from the kitchen. As she poured herself a glass of juice, her cell phone rang.
She answered it, and it was Nurse Rachet.
"Opal, sorry to call you on your day off, but one of the nurses called out at the last minute, can you come in?"
"Oh, sure thing, Nurse Rachet." Opal replied.
And she hung up the phone.
"Going somewhere?" asked a voice.
Opal looked and saw Cole walking towards her.
"Yeah, sorry Cole but they need me at the hospital."
"Hey, it's okay. We're still on for tomorrow night right?"
"You bet."
And with that, she said goodbye the rest of the group, kissed Cole, and left.
Opal actually felt much better at hospital working.
"Thanks for calling me in, Nurse Rachet." said Opal, as she put some extra bandages away.
"Oh, you're happy to get called in on your day off?" Nurse Rachet, asked confused.
"It's better than what I was doing."
"Really?"
Opal then found herself telling Nurse Rachet about her feelings and doubts.
"The other girls are so talented and have such high rankings in the city."
"Now Opal, you're just as good as they are."
"Nya's the Master of Water and a Ninja, Pixal is Samurai X, Skylor's the Master of Amber, and Harumi's the Princess of Ninjago. And me I'm Opal Lancaster, the nurse."
"Nursing is an admirable profession. The Ninja and Cole are lucky to have you in their group."
"Maybe. But do I truly fit in?"
Just then a patient was brought in on a gurney, and the two hurried into action.
A couple weeks later, Opal was invited to dinner with Cole and the rest of the crew at a nice restaurant. So Opal dressed in a nice pink dress, and Cole picked her up at her place. Things at the restaurant were going well, even though it had started to storm outside.
"Glad we made it before it got bad out there." said Jay.
"You're right, Jay." Zane agreed.
"So Opal, how're things at the hospital?" wondered Lloyd.
"Oh, they're fine." Opal answered simply.
As she was about to take another bite of her food, when the peace was interrupted by a scream. Everyone turned to the scene, and saw that a man had passed out at another table, and people were surrounding him.
With her nurse instincts kicking in, Opal quickly dashed to the scene.
"Opal, what are you doing?" asked Pixal.
She made her through the crowd, and got down on her knees.
"Everybody give him space." Opal instructed.
People did so, and she started to look him over. "What are you doing?" asked a woman worriedly.
"Don't worry, I'm a nurse. What happened?"
"I don't know. We were just eating then all of a sudden he grabbed his chest, then passed out." she explained.
When the Ninja came over, they were surprised at what Opal was doing.
"Someone call 911, and tell them that Opal Lancaster is here with a possible heart attack."
She loosened the clothing around his neck and waist, and started doing chest compressions.
"Gee, Opal sure stays calm under pressure." observed Skylor.
"Impressive." replied Pixal.
After a while, the paramedics came, and loaded the man into the ambulance. As Opal saw them off, the others came up to her.
"Wow Opal, you really took care of the situation." said Zane.
"It was nothing, just my training." Opal told them.
"Well that was amazing, and so were you." Cole complimented.
Opal smiled at her boyfriend's words. After getting thank yous from the managers, Opal and the others went back to their table.
"Hey, Opal do you do that sort of thing the hospital every day?" asked Nya.
"Usually yes."
"Do you think we could observe what you do?" wondered Jay.
Opal was surprised to hear that.
"Well that'd be nice, but I can't have you all following me at work."
"I have a solution." Pixal piped up.
The next day, when Opal went to work she had on a special pin. It actually had a camera in it, and back at the monastery the others were able to watch whatever Opal did.
"All right, time to see what Opal does all day." said Cole.
All day, they all saw as Opal did her job. There were times when they had to cover their eyes whenever they saw her deal with blood or vomit. But other times they couldn't stop looking at how she saved people's lives by either preforming CPR or giving the right treatment.
They saw her comforting people who were scared or worried. And even shed a few tears when there were times Opal and the rest of the doctors weren't able to save someone.
"I know we Ninja are tough, but I don't think I could do what Opal does everyday." Jay piped up.
"You got that right." agreed Kai.
Then they saw Opal, going to the locker room to get her things. She then took off her pin, and had the camera face her. She smiled at the Ninja, and said,
"Well guys I'm on my way out."
When Opal got back to the monastery, she was met with the admiration of the rest of the group.
"Opal, you were great out there." Cole complimented, as he kissed her cheek.
"Thanks, but it's just what I do." Opal replied.
"Well that was amazing. We certainly couldn't do what you do everyday." Zane told.
"You should really tell us more stories about the hospital." said Harumi.
Opal smiled.
"Thanks, as long as you don't mind some gross stories."
"No problem." replied Nya.
And it was then that Opal truly knew she belonged with the Ninja crowd.
The End
