Just like to point out that this is from an anime called Soul Eater, so if you find any characters that are not named Eve, Joseph, Joshua, Piper, and Darcelle, then they are NOT mine. I might be making a few more characters as this story goes on. I'm writing this story just like how it is on the anime, so if you don't want to be spoiled, I suggest you watch the anime first.
What to expect from the fanfiction; Soul, Kid, and Black Star will each have a love interest, and they will be with my ocs'. That's about it.
If you haven't seen the anime, Soul Eater, I would recommend that you do, just to get a better understanding of everything. It is a really great anime and I think you'll love it.
Enjoy! :)
Death City... a city which existence remains in the city of Nevada. Don't be fooled by this town's sane exterior. While everything appears normal during the day, there are dangers that appear at random during the night. This metropolis is a huge disaster, nearly bursting at the seams with unneeded problems. Kishin are terrible humanoid beasts with a voracious appetite for human souls' virtue. Witches are deceptive manipulators with disastrous skills; some are good, while others are not. Creatures like those two are the world's principal source of strife, wreaking devastation for millennia. The defenders of the Death Weapon Meister Academy are the reason it is still calm. Lord Death, the owner of both the building and the city, is one of them.
You may be in wonder as to why I'm at this location; my family merely moved here a few years ago. My father, Ethan Ballard, had died before we made the decision. He was a strong man, a trained martial artist, and the best swordsman anyone had ever seen. He was one of the most powerful pupils to have ever graduated from the DWMA at the time. He was able to capture all 99 souls, as well as the soul of a witch, with the help of my mother. My mother, Evangeline Ballard, was offered the role of Death Scythe for Lord Death as a result of this, which she gladly accepted. She turned down the offer, however, since she wanted to spend the rest of her life with our father and become the head of our Ballard family, considering we are of nobility.
Our parents had determined that after giving birth to us three, we'd become the most powerful members of Lord Death's Academy and the guards of Death City. My father began training me every day when I was six years old. He and my mother both taught us how to fight; I was trained as a meister, and my eldest twin brothers were trained as weapons. Even after father's death, we've never ceased, not once. We've worked harder than ever. I have once vowed to cleanse this world of these horrid shambles and it will be accomplished as long as I'm still alive. I, Evelyn Ballard, the daughter of Arthur and Evangeline Ballard, will attend this academy, and my brothers will achieve becoming Death Scythes for Lord Death. For our father and the sake and cleanliness of our people of Death-
"HEY! Could you knock off your stupid inner monologue!" yelled an irritated young man. Eve groaned and glanced away from her elder brother, annoyed that he had interrupted her statement. She had always enjoyed telling stories. She would read aloud to herself so much that she didn't care if anyone else heard her. It was all part of the process of becoming an author, which she aspired to be one day. "That was impolite of you to interrupt like that, Joseph," Eve grumbled.
"Good. Y'know, people are gonna think you're crazy if you keep that up." Joseph replied without feeling sorry for his younger sister.
She said nothing and just stared at him before moving forward to take in the sights of Death City. Despite the fact that it appeared to be any ordinary metropolis, she was awestruck by the sight. Eve and her twin brothers were all stationed in a tall building, patrolling the region around them. The crescent moon smiled with a less-than-appealing grin that was pouring blood from its teeth, and it was tenebrous out. It was a chilly night, and the air had lowered the temperature.
Eve's hair strands flowed across her face, almost tickling her lips, as the wind blew strongly enough. Her hair was placed behind her ear and flowed under her chin. For a 14-year-old girl, Eve's appearance was quite exquisite. Her purple eyes glistened with light and were hidden behind her black round-shaped glasses. Her skin was light-toned and supple. Her hair was silky black and silky smooth. Covering the top of her head was a light purple headband. Her outfit consisted of a silk black cloak with a gold button that was short enough to cover her entire upper body. Her legs were hidden behind black pantyhose that hardly revealed her skin color. Last but not least, she was dressed in black flat-heeled buckled shoes.
"The roof is an excellent spot for patrolling," she murmured quietly to herself, "The view of Death City is very commendable from here." Eve began to hear joyful giggles from behind her. She sighed as she realized the laughter was coming from Joshua, her second brother, and Joseph's younger twin. She turned around to see him hovering over the edge of the building, peering down. She didn't show it, but she was worried about her brother's safety. At the same time, she was irritated by his cavalier attitude toward his health. "Take a step back from the edge, Joshua. You're going to lose your balance," she exclaimed.
"But we're so high up!" Joshua beamed with an exhilarated grin, "I like seeing from up here. I bet I could make a perfect landing." He took a step on the ledge, about to leap to the ground.
Joseph immediately took the hood of his brother's jacket and pulled him away from the ledge with Joshua grunting and begging his brother to let him go, "Don't even try it, damn nitwit." The two walked behind Eve after Joseph yanked his brother beside him. Joshua puffed his cheeks as he glared at the elder twin. The twin boys had a striking resemblance in appearance; both were tall 19-year-old men with an average muscular build, the same skin tone as their younger sister but somewhat lighter complexion and green eyes. Each strand of hair was spiked and waved, and their hair was trimmed and naturally black. They were both dressed in black varsity jackets with gray sleeves and black fingerless gloves. They donned dark blue pants and black sneakers on the bottom half of their outfit. Both wore undershirts, but they were different colors: Joseph's was blue and Joshua's was red.
Eve turned to the younger twin and spoke with a sharp tone, "We're not here to play, Joshua. Please keep focus. "
"Alright, " chuckled Joshua, rubbing the back of his head, "Sorry, Sis."
Joseph softly groaned in exhaustion. He couldn't believe his sister had left him out in the cold all night to keep an eye on a certain monster. He didn't mind a light breeze every now and again. It would be preferable to having a fever. He, on the other hand, would much rather stay at home and sleep all night. The individual was uninterested in commitment and viewed many aspects of life to be utterly pointless. Joseph can be a touch too laid-back at times, to the point where he doesn't seem to care about anything; this worried his siblings, particularly his mother. Nevertheless, he had no issue tagging along with his siblings; not only because he had to, but because he felt he needed to protect them. He wanted to protect Eve most likely.
He pulled his wrist to check the time on his silver watch; 12:00 am it had shown. Despite the fact that they weren't as visible, the bags under his eyes felt as heavy as a bag of flour, and he couldn't keep them open owing to the breeze. He couldn't even keep track of how many times he'd yawned. He went to his sister and expressed his displeasure, "Remind me again what we're even doin' out here. Tomorrow already came today. I should be in bed."
"Stop with your unnecessary complaints, " snapped Eve, "We must keep our stay here. This beast could be roaming about anywhere and it will take more innocent souls than it has before if we decide to leave now."
"Why's this on us?" Joseph argued, "Isn't someone from the school out to hunt for this thing?"
Eve shifted her gaze to the twins, particularly Joseph. She didn't want to have to explain why they were on the lookout for a creature... again. She smiles, despite her minor annoyance at her brother's accusations "If I must remind you, Mother had maintained touch with Lord Death and had received his approval for us to handle this matter. This is our way of demonstrating to the city's owner that you are capable of acting as his Death Scythes. And if we want to be students at his institution, we must at the very least make a positive first impression. Now keep your eyes peeled and your ears perked." Eve circled back around to get a better look at the town.
"No problem, Sis," Joshua saluted, a pleased grin on his face. Joseph grumbled and followed his brother to the edge of the ledge, ignoring his younger sister's argument. Eve was silent as she focused her sights on the metropolis, wondering about something. She took her hand and gently rubbed the jewel of her brooch that was fastened on her garment beneath her cloak. The brooch was just stunning. It had four gleaming purple opals, one large and three lesser ones beneath it. Eve's father gave her this brooch when she was a young girl. Since then, she has adored it. Eve looked up into the starry sky, where she saw a reflection of her father. "Just you wait, Father. It won't be too long."
It was near midnight, and everyone was sound asleep in their homes. That isn't true for everyone in Death City, though. There was a small group of young people, two males, and two girls, somewhere around Death City. They were young teenagers, between the ages of 13 and 15, casually strolling through Death City's streets. They appeared to be violating curfew at all hours of the night, seemingly without a care in the world. On the tiny road, they were laughing and conversing. "Man, that playground was lame!" one boy commented tartly, "We're gonna hang at the Chupa Cubra's Bar next time."
"Let's just hurry up and get home. My mom will kill me if she finds out I'm not home."
With a short delay, one of the other boys came to a standstill. He began feverishly looking through his pockets, including his jacket and the rest of his garments, with a worried expression on his face. When his friends noticed that just a handful of them was walking, they came to a halt and asked him what was up with him. He came to a halt and replied, "Guys, I-I don't have my phone. I think I left it at the playground."
"Ah, seriously, " complained one of the girls.
"Well go find it then."
"Let's just go and help him out, " the first male told the two girls.
The four teens dashed to the park in Death City. There were a few slides strewn about, some huge, others small, and it appeared to be a standard playground with all of the usual amusements. Swings and seesaws, as well as a merry-go-round and a jungle gym, were available. They started looking for one of the male adolescent's phones, which had been misplaced in the park. The teens had separated themselves from one another in order to inspect each piece of equipment individually. As the minutes passed, they couldn't help but notice that something wasn't quite right about the playground. Almost every piece of equipment had a liquid material oozing or adhering to it. The girls had noticed it while searching and were horrified and perplexed at the same time. What was the deal with all the slime in the park? The lads had assumed the children that would play in this park had made a mess with putty slime.
After a few moments, there was no trace of a cell phone. The teenagers were about to give up when they heard a noise. The lads paused what they were doing to focus on the sounds, which seemed familiar to them. It had the feel of a one-of-a-kind electronic and musical track. It appeared to be extremely appealing. The song sounded like it originated from a grove near Death City's playground. One of the youngsters smiled with relief when he realized it was his ringtone and that his phone had been abandoned in the bushes. He had no idea how his phone ended up in these bushes because he couldn't recall going anywhere near the grove, but he didn't mind as long as he found it.
He dashed over to the bushes, where he realized his phone was vibrating and flashing brightly. When the teen reached for his phone, his hand became entangled in some sort of liquid. The child was perplexed by the identical liquid that had been strewn around the playground. He attempted to pull his hand back, but it became fully stuck, and he was unable to move it. As he continued to tug his hand out of the bizarre wall of slime with no success, the child was on the verge of panicking. Then there came a gentle sound from above, which caught the young man off guard. He cautiously and hesitantly lifted his head to see what was creating that sound, his face drenched with sweat and filled with anxiety. He couldn't get a good look at what this "object" was because it was so dark outdoors. The only thing he noticed was a pair of glaring red eyes looking at the youngster, threateningly. This wasn't no average slime, it was clear.
Eve finally moved to a different part of the building while maintaining a high level of awareness of the creature she was in charge of. She couldn't believe she was saying it, but she was feeling impatient, just a tad. Because Eve and the Ballard Twins were not provided any specific information about this creature's normal whereabouts, all they could do was be on the lookout for it during the night. She wondered where this monster was, expecting it to at the very least appear by now. While going in pursuit of it would have been the greatest option, there was a chance they may miss the creature and end up strolling around mindlessly. Her brothers had decided to spray paint a wall behind their sister as she stood in front of the roof's ledge waiting. They became sick of keeping an eye on this monster after a while and decided to divert their attention by producing art on the building. Joseph nodded in appreciation as Joshua drew his brother's attention to examine his artwork.
Eve scoffed in disapproval as she heard the continuous sounds of spray paint from behind her. With her red vain popping, she turned her head to face her brothers with a frown, "Honestly, we are currently on the lookout for a humanoid monster and yet here you are vandalizing this building. How shameful!"
Joseph casually shrugged as he avoided facing Eve, continuing to spray paint the wall. Joshua, with a drop of sweat dripping from his head, chuckled as he rubbed the back of his head awkwardly while facing his sister, "Sorry, Sis. We kinda got bored." With her eyes closed, Eve sighed. She was unsure how she would cope with their indolence. Suddenly, she became aware of a presence, and her eyes widened. With an alert expression, she swung her head to the right and ran toward the other side of the roof. Joseph and Joshua, concerned, followed her. They looked at their younger sibling, puzzled as to why she wasn't saying anything. "Uh... somethin' wrong, Sis?" said Joshua first.
Eve's pupils constricted as she concentrated on her perception of the soul. "I'm sensing a presence from over there in that direction. I'm not sure it's any good."
"You think it's that thing we're supposed to catch?" asked Joseph.
"Only one way to find out, " said Eve with a smirk, "Let's go."
The three teenagers were in a risky scenario while assisting a friend in finding his phone. They were so terrified by what they saw that they could barely move. This slim thing was dripping with muck, despite the fact that it was apparently human. It was completely black in hue. The boy who was looking for his phone was in one of its clutches. Except for his head and legs, the unfortunate little guy was unconscious, his entire body engulfed in the humanoid creature's grasp. His buddies desperately tried calling out to him to wake up, but it was in vain. While still keeping hold of the young boy, the creature took its other slimy hand and stretched it at one of the girls to grab her. It caught her off guard, and she didn't have enough time to move. Luckily, the male reacted just in time to pull her out of harm's way.
They didn't know what to do, but they were determined to save the youngster despite their fears. The only reasonable thing they could do was to throw rocks or any other neglected object they could find in the playground at this creature. They threw everything they had, but the beast was unaffected. In fact, it's the polar opposite.
"Oh come on! We keep throwing things at it but, it won't budge!"
"What do we do!?"
"It's gotta let him go eventually. Let's just keep throwing rocks at it."
"Obviously, that's not going to work," Eve, who was just behind the teenagers with her brothers, said. The kids were startled by her abrupt entrance and turned to stare at her. As they confronted the mucked mutant, Eve and the twins stood curiously. The three were completely engulfed in darkness, with Eve's spectacles providing the only source of illumination. The three children were put off by their appearance. "Throwing a slew of stuff at him at this stage is pointless. In fact, all you're doing is exacerbating the situation, " Eve said sternly as she and the twins walked in between them. "In case you haven't noticed, the more stuff you hurl at this creature, the faster its growth increases. And the more it grows, the stronger it becomes, making defeating it more difficult. Surely, it had to be a lot smaller than it had been before, has it not?"
The three kids stared at one another in confusion and back at the creature. Now that they had noticed, it certainly did appear much bigger and taller than before. It was even less slim. "What are we supposed to do, then?" asked the male teen.
"You should run and hide away from this playground while you have the chance. There is not much the three of you can do." suggested Eve without facing the teens, "I will take care of the situation from here."
The kids stared at each other, then back at Eve, all with a bewildered expression. They almost wanted to laugh. What could Eve possibly do to save the boy and annihilate this humanoid beast? Joshua, not hearing any of their feet stepping away, looked at them and repeated what Eve had demanded, "Well, you heard her. Hurry up and get out of here! Our little sis knows what she doing."
The adolescents exchanged more stares, unsure of what to do. They weren't sure if they should trust Eve to save their friend, and Eve sensed their concern. She calmed them by saying, "Trust me when I say that your friend will be in good hands. Now flee, unless you want to be its next few targets." The youngsters had little choice but to leave the playground without arguing. Eve was ready to take the monster's soul now that they had escaped the area. She didn't know how to accomplish it, but she was determined to end its suffering.
Now prepared, she cued her brothers, "Boys?..."
Before delivering a nod, the twins exchanged glances and grinned. They flew up high in the air, amplified light encompassing their entire bodies. They begin to transform into their weapon forms from their original human forms. They turned into twin swords while in the air. To say the least, the swords were stunning in look. They were black metal in hue, with little curving slants of color that matched their clothes here and there, especially the on the grip. They were gleaming, and the edge and tip were razor-sharp, they can easily slice a single strand of hair. The swords fell back down and were caught by Eve. She twirled the swords and stood still in her original stance. As she glared at the creature, she pointed at it with her sword and announced, "I am Evelyn Ballard! With the assistance of my weapons, I will take your soul! Prepare yourself, you foul creature!"
The slime then stretched its arm towards the girl with its oozing hand, ready to seize and eat her soul. Eve shifted to the left as soon as it reached out to touch her. The gooey thing gave Eve a brief glance before continuing to lunge towards her, this time moving his full body to catch up to her. This was simple for Eve because she was able to avoid every single move it made against her, she was quite good at that. Eve was staring at the creature the entire time this was going on. She was aware that the youngster was still being held captive by it. She couldn't wait till he was completely absorbed. Before it was too late, he needed to be rescued. All she needed to do was catch the creature off guard.
She moved even faster around the monster, circling it. Eve leaped too fast for the creature, he could barely see her anywhere. He looked in each direction to try and find her, but it was difficult. The creature seemed it was caught off guard and Eve used her chance to grab the kid without it noticing, leaping in his direction, slicing off its hand, and grabbing the boy with her arm at the same time. This surprised the creature. Eve smirked as she felt proud of pulling it off. She quickly exited the playground to flee from the creature as she wanted to put this young man out of harm's way. She then put her attention on the young teenager who was being carried on her back. It seemed like she lost the creature, but, by sensing its presence, she knew it was following her as it wanted her soul the most.
With slight concern, Joseph asked while in his weapon form, "Is the kid alright?"
"There isn't an injury on him that is too severe, not that I have noticed," Eve said as she continued rushing, trying to locate the children she had ordered to leave the playground. She couldn't help but notice the youngster was covered in ooze from the monster, and part of it was dripping on her cloak the entire time she was running. Despite the fact that it didn't come into close contact with her flesh, she felt appalled. "Ugh! This slime! How revolting! I'll have to take a shower when this is over."
Eve had continued to run until she caught up with the three teenagers. She screamed out to them, and they came to a halt when they realized she was catching up to them. She assured them she wouldn't talk to them until she was close enough "I was successful in rescuing your friend. He doesn't appear to be seriously hurt, but just in case, I'd advise you to take him to the hospital. However, you must rush him to medical care immediately before the oozing monster catches up with me."
"What!?" exclaimed the male teen, "So you haven't even killed that thing yet!? You said you were going to-"
Eve interrupted him by raising her hand to prevent him from speaking any further "Young man, please. I had to attend to your friend first, otherwise, he would have suffered. That's something I'm sure you wouldn't want to happen, right?"
"Well, no, but-"
"Then I recommend you wrest him from my clutches and depart as soon as possible. As we speak, I sense the creature's presence closing in on me. You wouldn't want it to notice any of you."
The kids really didn't want to be in the oozing humanoid's presence. They carried their friend and ran off to leave Eve to deal with the creature. Joshua didn't appreciate how that kid was talking to Eve. "I didn't like how that kid was talking back to you, Sis," he commented after he huffed.
"Neither did I, but they're out of the way and that's all that matters," Eve concurred. She could sense the presence of the creature far behind her, slowly walking toward her, "Now, where were we?"
The beast then dashed up to Eve and lunged at her, attempting to seize her. She shifted her weight away from the beast. Eve noticed the hand she had slashed off earlier and realized it had grown back. It won't be easy to get rid of this beast. She kept doing what she was doing previously, avoiding its strikes. The creature then threw slime balls towards Eve, which she managed to avoid. A light pole was hit by one of the slime balls. Eve noticed the steam pouring from the slime was melting the pole when she spotted it. The pole swung to the side and landed in front of her.
This surprised her brothers and they felt a little nervous about it, especially Joshua. "So... steel can't melt, can it?" fretted Joshua.
"Hey!" exasperated Joseph to Eve, "Ya gonna keep avoiding this thing, or are ya gonna fight?"
Eve didn't like being hustled by her older brother and calmly answered, "I'm not sure whether you noticed, but the hand I had earlier hacked off has grown back. He'd keep growing back if I kept cutting the rest of him. Fighting him like that would be pointless." Eve proceeded to dodge its slime and itself. She tried to focus, figuring out what kind of weakness it must have. Since this monster it was originally human, it must be vulnerable to something a human is vulnerable to. What could it be? As Eve stared at the creature she noticed something on the left sighed of its chest area. Could it be? It must be the heart. She knew as everyone knew, if the heart stops then, then your body stops.
She murmured, "I got you." She dashed towards the creature, taking care not to touch it or come into contact with his slime. She sliced the upper section of the monster's torso with her one blade as soon as she got close enough. She killed it by splitting its heart in two and slicing it in half. The beast wailed in anguish as it hauled its attacks. Transformed into a red floating soul before falling back. Eve rose to her feet and lowered her sword. She explained, smirking, "That is checkmate. Boys...our mission is now fulfilled." She sucked in the soul at the end of the grip with one of her swords, Joshua in particular, his red hue flaring in the process.
She let go of the swords as they turned back in their human form. Joseph stretched and tried to crack some of his bones. Sometimes, being a weapon can be a bother for his body. Joshua approached his sister, patting her on the back and praising her, "That was awesome, Sis. You wasted that thing!"
Joseph agreed with his twin, "Yeah, but didn't you say it was useless to cut em' up."
"I did, and that is correct," she acknowledged. "However, that creature was human, just like us. As a result, he possessed human body components, including his heart. If your heart stops beating, the rest of your body will stop as well. And anyone's weakness is their heart."
"Not sure if I should say that's clever or just plain damn obvious, but hey you beat 'em," Joseph smirked and chuckled as he scratched the back of his head. He moved in front of his sister, patting her on the head, "So we're finished here, right? I'm ready to sleep."
"Yes, we're finished." she giggled as she and Joshua followed him.
The three eventually came to a halt at Chupa Cabra's Bar, where they were waiting for their driver to pick them up. Outside the pub, Joshua and Joseph sat on the stairwell, laying back as one of them, Joseph, rested his eyes. Eve stood in front of them, her phone pressed against her ear, ready to make a call. She intended to contact her mother, but the phone was answered by her personal butler. She imagined her mother was preoccupied. "Hello, Benjamin... Is mother busy?" she inquired.
"Yes, we're done for the evening. Please arrange for Charles to pick us up at Chupa's Cabra's Bar. And do urge him to hurry. I'm in desperate need of a shower... Thank you very much."
She hung up the phone and stuffed it into the pocket of her cloak. She approached her boys and sat in the middle, crossing one leg over the other. In silence, the three sat and awaited their driver. Joshua sat back, his linked fingers cushioning his head as he gazed in awe at the night sky. He, too, was staring at the moon. He didn't show it on his face, but he liked the way it looked. He'd spray paint the moon on a wall someplace in the city if Eve would let him. When he looked at Eve, he observed that she had a little smile plastered on her face, which he thought was adorable on her. He was perplexed as to why she was smiling when she usually maintained a straight face. "You thinkin' about somethin', Sis? I see that little smile on your face." As he gently prodded his sister on the cheek, he inquired.
Joseph, with his eyes closed and rested, answered for her, "She's probably thinkin' about the school."
"Eve confirmed, "You wouldn't be wrong, dear brother. Though, you mustn't blame me. Since the day the two of you were born into this world, father and mother had dreamt this for us. There's a chance this wish will come true now that we're finally qualified to enroll in the Death Weapon Meister Academy! You're as ecstatic as I am, are you not?"
Joshua replied with a grin, "Hell yeah, girl! We're gonna rock this school!"
"Sure," Joseph simply replied, "but still, this is Dad's dream we're talkin' about. If you wanna do this, then do it for yourself, not just for him. You shouldn't force yourself."
Eve remained silent for a brief period before responding, "Obviously, I'm not. You're well aware that I've always aspired to be a meister in the academy." She had never considered being a meister as a youngster until her father, Ethan, told her stories about how it began, what its purpose was, and the experiences he and his wife had as partners. She'd always wondered what it was like to be a meister, catching souls and defeating witches on adventures. She admired the notion, no matter how impossible it seemed. Despite her desire to have that experience, which she sincerely desired, she was more interested in being a writer and author, since she adored literature. Until Ethan's death, there was almost little interest in becoming a meister.
Eve had determined to fulfill her father's ambition of becoming a meister and producing death scythes for her brothers ever since that day. She intended to fulfill his ostensible wish, author or no author. "Putting that aside, don't you think the academy might use some extra pupils to make things easier in the long run? Who knows, maybe we'll make some new friends throughout our stay." A limo had eventually shown up for the Ballard siblings after a few minutes. As soon as they reached home, the kids had headed straight to bed after a quick shower, though Eve's shower lasted more than an hour.
Eve had been startled awake by the sound of her clock. She softly grumbled as she sat up and stretched before removing her blankets and getting out of bed. As she heard a faint knock at her door, she massaged her eyes. "Enter!" she cried to anyone who knocked, signaling them to enter her room. Diane, Eve's personal maid, entered Eve's chamber, dressed in her mid-twenties. "Good morning, Lady Eve," she said with a British lilt in her voice.
"Good morning to you as well, Diane." greeted Eve, as she straightened her hair, which appeared a little messy.
"Would you like some assistance in freshening up for the day?"
"There's no need, but thank you, " Eve politely declined, "Are the boys awake?"
"Benjamin is waking them up as we speak, Lady Eve. The chauffeur is all ready for you downstairs."
Eve stood from her bed and faced her maid, "Do let him know will be down in 20 minutes."
The maid nodded and walked out the door, sealing it behind her. Eve had gone into the bathroom to take a brief shower. After that, she had her hair styled till it was dry, silky, and smooth. She dressed in a tiny purple collared dress with a black long-sleeved blouse underneath and black pantyhose, along with her black flat-heeled buckled shoes. She finally put on her perfume and exited her room, heading downstairs to the front door. She found her twin brothers waiting for her at the front door. Joseph crossed his arms, impatiently, as he was irritated by how long Eve took to get dressed in her chamber.
As soon as Joshua saw his younger sister, he smiled. "Sis, good morning! You sleep well?" With a little wave, he said hello.
"I did, Joshua, " she replied with a smile, "Thank you for asking. I'm sure you two have slept soundly as well."
"It took ya long enough." fussed Joseph.
Eve stepped in between her siblings and out the front door with a nonchalant demeanor "On the day she meets the one and only Lord Death, a lady must make sure she looks her finest. Let's get started."
"Not so quick, young lady," said a more mature female voice. Eve swung around to see a tall, attractive woman in her early to mid-40s. She appeared to be in her early twenties, though. She was a stunning woman with emerald eyes, jet black silk hair, and flawless skin. She was dressed in a long purple robe that exposed her cleavage. "I hope you three weren't leaving before bidding your mommy goodbye," she stated in her smooth voice as she approached the siblings with a blank expression.
"Oh, dear! Yes. Forgive me, mother." apologized Eve as she approached the older woman, "Perhaps I was too anxious to meet the owner of this city."
"It ain't no big, " said Joseph to his mother, "We'll only be gone for a little bit."
Evangeline smiled as she embraced her daughter with a gentle hug. She walked up to her two twin sons and did the same with each of them, obliviously shoving their faces in her cleavage, causing them to feel awkward. "Do send Lord Death my greetings as soon as you see him."
"Of course, " Eve said with a smile. Evangeline stood at the front door, waving at them with a loving grin, as the siblings boarded their limo. Today was Lord Death's first meeting with the Ballard siblings. Evangeline had successfully enrolled her children at the Death Weapon Meister Academy and had planned a meeting with the school's headmaster. Eve was overjoyed at the prospect of finally meeting him in person.
After all was said and done, the limo arrived at the academy. Eve and her brothers exited the vehicle after expressing their gratitude to the chauffeur for the drop-off service. As soon as they walked out of the building, the three of them noticed the large number of stairs in the building. To say they were taken aback would be an understatement. Eve was taken aback by the sheer number of steps, but she was nonetheless impressed. She smirked, her palm resting on her hip, as she took in the scene. However, the twins were apprehensively shocked, their mouths dangling and their heads expanding with condensed pupils and their backs hunched in fear. Their amazement at having to walk all the way up to the school just to get in was heightened by the fact that there were over 100 steps.
There was silence amongst the three with the breeze outside being the only sound heard. "Oh my," Eve finally spoke, "What a magnificent School."
As he stared at the steps, Joseph's eyes tilted. He growled in a low tone, "What in the holy hell was this dude on when he came up with this b.s.? I just got outta bed, dammit!"
Joshua, with whining eyes, stared at his sister and whined, "There's no way we have to walk all the way up there. Don't they have an elevator or something?"
"Enough with your moaning," Eve said, "I see no other option except to make it up top. Now is the time to stop whining. Lord Death is waiting for us." The boys followed Eve up the stairwell, much to their dismay. Climbing those stairs was a torturous experience for the twins. Despite the fact that there was a breeze, the sun was scorching hot, and the twins were perspiring profusely with every step they took. They became more and more sluggish as they took more steps. No one could tell what was going on with Eve, as she casually walked up the stairs. She was walking a long distance away from her brothers without realizing it. Eve eventually made it all the way to the top of the mountain, though it took a long time.
When she turned around, she saw her older siblings stumbling up the stairs, which caused her to sigh and shake her head, expressing her lack of sympathy for their situation. The way she saw it, they were being a little over the top with their dramtic behavior . Eve was well aware that her identical twin brothers would work out whenever they had the energy and were physically capable of lifting a full sofa if they so chose. The fact that their lethargy could sometimes overtake them seemed incredible to her at the time. It was hot and humid by the time they arrived, and they were panting and wiping sweat from their faces. They fell to the ground, their faces pressed against it.
"This school better be freakin' worth it..." mumbled Joseph, out of breath. His brother lied beside him with tears spilling from his crooked eyes.
"If only I had a baby bottle of milk, " scoffed Eve with a hand on her hip, "Would that make you feel better?"
"Screw off!" the elder twin retorted.
Eve took one look at the Death Weapon Meister Academy's appearance and thought it was out of this world. The school, which stands on a big platform with a long line of white steps leading up to it, is made up of a collection of large black towers and spires patterned with white lines and the occasional Shinigami mask. The towers have conical roofs that are vivid crimson in color. Huge candles protrude from the shafts that run around the perimeter of the buildings. Strangely, the candles' flames never burn out, and they never become shorter. The three huge Shinigami skulls lined up at the entrance are the Academy's most striking feature. The middle skull is the most massive, with three blood-red spikes protruding from its eye and nose holes. Smaller and with slanted eyes are the skulls on the sides. The school's primary entrances are the holes between the 'tooth' of these massive skulls. Three odd black orbs hover at the top of the school. It appeared to be a funhouse rather than a school.
They observed a big man standing in front of the door as they proceeded to approach the entry, the twins slowly walking behind Eve. He was an odd-looking man who appeared to be some kind of zombie. He had cornrowed hair and black Japanese tattoos on both arms. He was a muscular, bluish-skinned man with cornrowed hair and black Japanese tattoos on both arms. The kanji in his shoulder tattoo symbolized "death," and the arrow beneath it stands for "person." In addition, he wore a headband with the word "hole" written on it. His face is made up of a flat, piggish nose, pupilless white eyes, and a mouth that shows his top and bottom teeth all the time. He greeted them with a "Good Morning!"
His appearance fascinated the siblings, albeit they didn't show it, except for Joshua. Joshua was the first to approach him, quickly throwing aside his tiredness from the stair climb. "Whoa! Are you like, part of the undead or something?" he exclaimed, taking a couple of glances at him with sparkles surrounding him."
"Uh, yeah, " the man replied, feeling a tad uncomfortable with how close Joshua was to him, "You can say that."
Before presenting herself and her siblings, Eve chuckled, "Please forgive his fascination. My name is Evelyn Ballard. The young men are my twin siblings, Joseph and Joshua. They also serve as my weapons."
"I see, " said the older man as he shook Eve's hand, "So your the few who'll be attending this academy by next week? It's nice to meet you. I'm Sid Barrett, I work as one of the instructors here in this school. I take it you're here to see the headmaster here?"
"That is correct."
"In that case, let me show you to his office. Just follow me." Sid said as he walked inside the hallways, followed by the three kids. Eve and the twins strolled around the halls, admiring the school's look. Inside, the Academy is quite large and majestic, with many long halls with arched ceilings and lamps to illuminate the way, as well as stairwells. There are also spherical windows in the corridors that view out onto the school grounds. Inside, a large number of students were milling about, speaking with one another, or going down the corridors. A few of the students, notably the male students, gazed at Eve and were taken aback by her attractiveness, mumbling compliments about her, despite the fact that she was completely unaware of this. As for the female students, they couldn't help but feel attracted to the twins and gawk at them with sparkling eyes. The twins as well were oblivious by this.
Eve, as well as the boys, took notice of a couple of students fighting on a wide balcony. Not only were they fighting, but they were battling with weapons; one was with a sword while the other was with a battle axe. The siblings were confused as to why Sid wouldn't take notice of this, considering his job as a teacher. Joshua smirked, stopping to watch the battle, "Oh, sweet! A fight!"
"Excuse me, Sid," Eve said, drawing the zombie's attention to herself, "but you don't seem affected by this brawl. I don't mean to question you, but as an instructor, shouldn't you call a halt to the fight?"
"I could do that, but it's quite the opposite actually, " answered Sid, "In case you haven't realized, this isn't your ordinary school where you can get in trouble for a simple fight and caught by a teacher. In this school, we train students to fight evil in any way we can and they get stronger in the process. One of the ways for kids to learn and grow strength is by sparring while we instructors observe and critic their match."
"Wait! So what your sayin' is we can fight and we won't even get in trouble for it?" asked a surprised Joshua, excited by the idea, "Me and my bro would get suspended for it in our last school all the time."
"Like I said, this won't be your ordinary school. Let's keep moving." Sid continued to lead the siblings to Lord Death's office, which seemed rather far from where they were. Eventually, they had made it to the end of the passageways where a large door marked with a skull and the plate, Death Room. Sid turned to the kids and said, "Welp, this is it. I was never the kind of man to leave his soon-to-be students, but unfortunately, there's some business I have to handle. Will you kids be able to make your way back out?"
"Don't concern yourself, Sid. We'll do fine on our own," Eve reassured before bowing in gratitude, "We greatly appreciate your assistance in guiding us to Lord Death's room."
"Sure thing, " Sid smiled, "I hope to see you kids again by next week."
Sid had walked away after that. Eve had entered the Death Room, followed by her siblings, who had opened the door. They saw a tunnel of Torii gates, which are styled to look like guillotines, as soon as they entered inside. The Death Room is a strange-looking room with a dome-shaped and domed roof and a bright blue sky covered with white clouds, which is not what one would anticipate from a Shinigami's home. Clouds float about the ceiling as if it were a real sky, and there were even clouds drifting along the ground. The siblings were blown away. Is there anything more amazing than this school?
Despite the distance, the three had made it through the tunnels and into the main area of the room. The room's focal point is a big round platform with stairs leading up to it. A big mirror with a brass frame and a Shinigami mask sits in the center of the platform. Small windows at the top of the dome reveal the countryside outside. A wide desert-like landscape surrounds the platform and appears to extend on forever. The earth surrounding the platform is covered in unusual cross-like foundations that rise from the ground. There were black metal crosses strewn throughout the place.
The man himself, Lord Death, stood on the podium in front of his mirror. The siblings were taken aback when they saw him for the first time. He looked just the way their parents had described him. Death emerged as a ragged piece of pitch-black cloth with many jagged edges, adorned with a cartoony skull mask that seemed to serve the only function of simulating an otherwise absent face—a way of making Death more humanoid and so making it easier for humanity to converse.
Noticing the sight of the soon-to-be students, his large white foamed hand popping from his cloth, he greeted them with a high tone in his voice, "WAZZUP, WAZZUP, WAAZZUUP! You must be the Ballard kids; The lovely Eve and her handsome twin brothers, Joseph and Joshua. Your mother has told me so much about you three! I've been expecting you."
Eve and the twins were taken aback by the DWMA's headmaster's pleasant demeanor. They weren't sure why, but the atmosphere emanating from Lord Death was already making them feel fantastic. Eve was the one who greeted him first, "Yes, indeed. To you, a very nice morning! And you must be Lord Death, the one and only Lord Death about whom our parents have told us stories. The headmaster of this school as well as the owner of Death City."
"That would be me!" He sang, "A pleasure to meet ya! Good to see you! And thanks for comin'!"
"I'm curious, has Mother also informed you of our personal mission a few weeks ago?"
Lord Death responded in a fervent tone, "She has, indeed! In fact, I've been monitoring you."
"Oh, have you now," responded Eve in slight shock.
"Yep! Through my mirror." He revealed as he stepped to the side to show the siblings his enormous mirror, he revealed. The mirror turned on, displaying a short clip of Eve's battle with the oozing monster. The Ballard kids were astounded that a mirror could do such a thing. It was as if they were watching television. "You very much impressed me, Ms. Ballard. And you boys were fantastic as weapons! You remind me so much of my son and his two partners. If you ask me, you'd be perfect for my academy."
Lord Death's assessment of Eve and her older siblings had been enlightening. However, it was the term, son, that had piqued her interest. Lord Death had a son, but Evangeline never told her. But, to get right to the point, Eve told Lord Death why they came, "We're glad to hear that. However, we came here in regards to attending your lovely academy."
"Yes, of course. It's quite simple actually," replied Lord Death before pulling out a few papers. The three took a look at the papers and noticed they were quite long and filled with words in which the boys would never be bothered to read, "All you need to do is sign the Academy Agreement."
"Is that all?" asked Joseph.
"Not quite. I lied." Lord Death comedically confessed, making Joseph raise an eyebrow, he almost wanted to laugh. "First you'll have to hear some rules and regulations we require you to follow while you remain here. This is a special school indeed. However, we can be more strict than you think. As you can see, fighting evil can be serious business."
"Fair enough," agreed Eve, "No matter what, we will not disappoint you."
"I'm glad to hear that! Now listen up. Can't have you missing the important parts." The siblings nodded as they listened to Lord Death. "As you may know, Death Weapon Meister Academy serves plenty of purposes. I produced this school to teach you youngens to ensure the prevention of another Kishin rising and maintain world order. In addition, it is to teach Demon Weapons to control their power in an effort to prevent their power from accidentally hurting others as well as for them to properly integrate into society. Just thought I point that out for you."
"We were told as such by Mother, but we appreciate the reminder," thanked Eve.
"In the Academy, there are two general advancement curriculums. This curriculum decides the purpose of both the student body and teachers present in the school.
⦁ N.O.T; that stands for Normally Overcome Target. This curriculum is for non-combatants teachers and students.
⦁ E.A.T; standing for Especially Advantaged Talent. This curriculum involves the students and teachers using their power to fight against evil.
"Of course, since you're more advanced in your combat and training, your mother and I have decided to make you EAT students. So you'll stick with the kids who are more skilled."
The Ballard kids nodded in understanding and Lord Death continued, "Now, on with the rules! Of course, you kids are free to fight with other students here, but there has to be a teacher or one of the other faculty members to witness the match."
"Yes, Sid had already informed us of that matter on our way here," told Eve.
"All right, that's good for him. There is also a Bulletin board of the Shinigami's List shown somewhere in the halls."
"A Shini-what-what list?" asked Joshua, tilting his head.
"Shini-gami," cleared Lord Death, "On that list, there are a number of people whose souls are judged to be evil by yours truly. And it is Yours Truly that decides who is permitted to go on missions and take those souls. Plus, it is also up to me who decides to hunt down a witch's soul. But, taking souls that are not in the list is forbidden, as well as over-hunting souls."
"Yes, that is well understood," said Eve.
"One more thing, " concluding Lord Death, "I, as well as an experienced teacher, have the choice to expel you if you do the following; Fail all class subjects or perform poorly in soul collecting and remedial lessons. Rules such as these are more serious than you think. When implementing these acts, you are showing disrespect towards the school, and especially towards me."
Joseph, taken aback by those few reasons for expelling a student, found that to be ridiculous, "You'll kick our asses to the curb just like that!?"
Eve shrugged as she answered to Joseph, "It's as Sid said, this isn't an ordinary school."
Lord Death pulled out a thumbs up from his cloth, "Correct! Welp, that is all I can tell you for now. There are plenty of other things you should know, but all of that will be in the student handbook I have sent to your mother." He then pulled the Academy Agreement papers along with a pen, "Now all you have to do is put your signatures on the agreement and you will officially be my students."
Eve was about to take the pen, but Joshua shoved in between her and Joseph, eager to sign the agreement. He took the pen from Lord Death, "Ooh! Let me do it! I wanna sign first!" He scribbled his name at the bottom of one of the papers, his siblings giving him an annoyed look. After he was finished, Eve and Joseph did the same and Eve gave the pen back to Lord Death.
"Hurray! I'm so excited!" cheered Lord Death, "I can assure that all of you will have so much fun here. You will start officially on Monday. I can't wait!"
"Neither can we," smirked Eve as she clapped her hands once, "I'm sure we'll have a fantastic time here in your school."
As they went, the three said their goodbyes to Lord Death. Lord Death greeted them with a cheerful wave. He'd give a wide smile if he had a real face. The siblings strolled all the way to the front door, passing through the corridors. Eve and Joshua were ecstatic to join the academy as pupils. They were looking forward to the adventure that lay ahead of them. Joseph smirked, his hands in his pockets. He couldn't believe he was saying it, but he couldn't wait to get an opportunity to attend this academy. At the very least, he'd be willing to give it a shot.
Three more kids were about to approach and stroll by them as the siblings headed out the front door to walk down the stairs. One of the kids in the middle was a young male adolescent. He appeared to be a skinny 14-year-old boy. Around the pupil of his eyes are two colors of yellow ringing. The outer ring is bright yellow, while the inner ring is a dark yellow that resembles gold. He wears a black suit with white rectangles most of the time. The rectangles are arranged in a totally symmetrical pattern. Six small rectangles go down the seam where the sleeves connect to the jacket, and four small rectangles run along the front of his jacket. A metallic skull rests under his collar and could be used as a tie. His undershirt is a formal white dress shirt, and a metallic skull rests under his collar and could be used as a tie. His color scheme is designed to be similar to that of his father. He also has black hair with three white stripes down the left side of his head. His face appeared to be blank, not showing a single emotion.
The two women in front of him appeared to be in their late adolescent years. The girl on his right side wore a cowgirl-style dress and had long filthy blonde hair. She was dressed in a sleeveless turtle neck belly shirt with a white tie. She wore black high-heeled boots, jeans, and a cowboy hat with it. The girl on the boy's right had brilliant short blonde short hair and wore the same clothes as the other girl, except she was wearing shorts. One of the females had a laid-back demeanor, while the other appeared to be effervescent, with pink cheeks and a smile.
Eve drew the attention of the boy in the middle, who was completely taken aback as soon as he took a glance at her. As he peered at her with his gleaming golden orbs, his eyes enlarged slightly. Time seemed to have slowed down as he gawked. The intricacies of her face, followed by her gleaming silk hair, her attire, and her body shape, were all flawlessly coordinated. He didn't even realize he had stopped walking to stare at her, leaving the females behind him perplexed. Eve spotted Kid staring at her, which shocked him a little. She smiled and nodded at him as a greeting and continued walking, then walked past him with her hair falling down her back and her brothers following. The youngster couldn't believe his eyes. It was like seeing a perfect and lovely angel for the first and only time in his life. He thought, "So... perfect..." Was he hallucinating?
"Uh, hey, Kid?" spoke the dirty blonde-haired girl in slight worry, making him snap out of gaze, "Is something the matter?"
The boy just stood there with a puzzled expression on his face. How long had he been staring? With a shake of his head, he said hurriedly, "It's nothing. Let's go."
