The Carousel Murders
Chapter 20th
Edison had asked the three men after finishing their coffee and food to head out towards the warehouse with the first shipment arriving.
What he didn't like was the fact that Naval Intelligence did not doubt to be following them at some point. This is when Leroy Jethro Gibbs walked in as a stranger. He will see Edison and his associates sitting at the counter with the waitress asking on whether they needed something else. There was an open seat at the counter and the young woman would ask him for his order.
"Water for now. I will let you know in a moment or two whether I will need something to eat." Gibbs said to the young woman writing down the water order onto her white pad.
Meanwhile, Edison asked the woman for their bill as he pulled out a fifty-dollar bill along with a $5.00 tax leaving it on the counter for now.
"I will be back in a few moments with your bill," she said while Gibbs was able to hear her.
"Sure enough, young lady," Edison said with a smile.
But in the meantime...Suzanne and Maurice had watched the exchange. However, Maurice will say the following to the woman.
"What is it Maurice?" she says softly into his ear.
"I don't know Suzanne. But the man who had come into the diner seemed familiar to me. Maybe he worked for NCIS for the longest time before heading for Alaska to retire." he responded.
"You're talking about Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, Maurice?" she asked him with the woman at the counter to hand Gibbs the water and the bill to the four sitting next to him.
Maurice looked at the front counter. "Correct. But why is he here in the first place?" he had to ask with the sensitivity of the question.
With a shake of her head. "No doubt about the same thing we are doing. No doubt NCIS had called him to work on the undercover case," he remarked finishing the last of his coffee.
"I just hope to god Maurice that he doesn't interfere with the case or else Naval Intelligence will be losing more than you know!" she explained.
It was at this particular moment the four men at the counter got up after paying the food bill. This is when Gibbs is alerted to finish his water while the waitress asks for his food order.
"Not this time, I need to head out with having something to do," Gibbs said knowing damn well what he plans on doing with his weapon on him except for his rifle inside of his grey truck.
MOMENTS LATER...
All hell is going to break loose with Edison talking to his associates when he said to them..."I have a feeling we are being followed." he noted...
This is when Gibbs will say the following while pulling out his handgun. "Edison, hold it right there!" he holler out with his response.
It was at this point that one of his associates pulled out his forty-five to fire four times to hit Gibbs into his right leg and shoulder before falling to the cement ground. HE CRIED OUT IN PAIN...
"Let's get the hell out of here now!" Edison tells his associates.
Meanwhile, Suzanne and Maurice ran out of the diner to head over to Gibbs to call for an ambulance and NCIS along with Naval Intelligence.
"Maurice, I will stay with Gibbs while you follow them the best you're able to." she had to say breathing hard for a moment.
She started to help Gibbs telling him that help was on the way.
