Sara dropped a less than happy Avalon off at the underground bunker underneath Verdant. She made quick pleasantries with John and Oliver, glancing around to notice that Felicity wasn't there. She considered asking Oliver where his 'IT girl' was. She had wanted to ask a favor from Felicity, but Oliver wasn't her keeper, so Sara decided against questioning him about Felicity's whereabouts. Plus, Sara had Felicity's number. She could simply call her.
Sara quickly left with a ready and eager John to find her sister, dialing Felicity's number as they climbed the stairs on the way out.
"Hey Felicity, I don't have a lot of time, but I need a favor." Sara uttered when the younger blonde came on the line.
"Hey Sara, what can I do for you?" Felicity inquired
The waverider captain responded by explaining the situation with Avalon and asking Felicity to dig up dirt on Avalon's parents - Rowan and Iridessa Toscana - in order to have leverage against them. Sara planned on blackmailing the teen's parents into signing away their parental rights. Not just to Avalon, but to the baby as well.
Down in the Arrow bunker, Avalon sat while Oliver kept watch over her. She quietly stared at her phone, so he busied himself by sharpening some of his arrow quivers.
For the first about thirty minutes or so, Avalon played games on her phone, never once looking up at Oliver, or attempting to make eye contact with him. Her goal was to ignore him for the duration of time she was with him - for as long as it took until Sara came back.
"So you're Sara's kid?" Oliver spoke after a long thirty minutes of dead silence, with only the noise from him sharpening his arrows and the clicking of Avalon's phone keys.
"I will be. She's adopting me. As soon as my biological parents sign away their rights."
Oliver hummed, "That sounds wonderful. Sara's probably an amazing mom, right?"
"She is." Avalon replied, "But she keeps a lot of secrets. She keeps me in the dark a lot."
"She just wants to protect you."
Avalon sighed, "So…how do you know my mom?"
"We grew up together, and I dated her sister for a while."
"Laurel." Avalon uttered, "I haven't met her yet."
Oliver smiled, "You'll like her."
Avalon bit her lip nervously, "You haven't asked about me."
"What?"
"My…" She gestured to her belly, "And why Sara's adopting me when my biological parents are still alive."
"I figured you'd tell me when you're ready. I know all about how trust has to be earned. I'm not one who likes to open up either."
Avalon nodded, "I thought maybe Sara already told you."
Oliver shook his head, "No. She'd never betray your trust like that."
"Yeah." The teen smiled, "Hey, you work with a team too, right?"
He hummed, affirmatively, "Yes, I do. Why?"
"Well, mom's team seems to regard her like a mother or something. I was wondering if your team looked to you like a father?"
"Hmm…I…not really. Your mom has a very unique team due to the fact that they live together for extended periods of time. My team works together, but at the end of the day we go home to our own houses." Oliver explained
He heard footsteps coming down the stairs and quickly stood up, rushing towards the bottom of the staircase to knock the person out, and thus would be protecting Avalon in the process. But as soon as the person came into view, Oliver saw that it was just Laurel. She appeared to be stumbling, barely able to hold herself up. He wondered if she was drunk.
"Laurel, where have you been?" He asked, "Sara and John are out looking for you. Apparently your place was trashed. She thought you'd been kidnapped."
"I was." She uttered weakly, before collapsing in his arms.
After Oliver caught Laurel, he noticed the dried blood caked on the back of her head - most likely from a hit to the back of the head - and the dirt under her nails - like she'd clawed away at a hole or dug herself out of somewhere. He carried her over to the table that he had laid injured on so many times.
Avalon placed her phone down before strolling over, intrigued by the brunette that Oliver had called 'Laurel' - but still stayed a little behind the man. She stared back and forth between Oliver and the unconscious woman a few times before speaking.
"You called her Laurel. Is that…" She started, "Is that my mom's sister?"
Oliver nodded, "Yes. This is your aunt."
"What happened to her?"
"I don't know, but you should call your mom."
