Sara and John returned to the bunker about twenty minutes after Avalon called. Sara stood in shock at the sight of her still unconscious sister.
"What happened, Oliver?" John asked, having been the first one to speak.
Even though, he directed his question to Oliver, his eyes, much like Sara's, were fixated on Laurel.
"I don't know. She just stumbled in. I cleaned her wounds, just waiting for her to wake up."
Sara nodded. Feeling relieved that her sister was at least still breathing even if she wasn't conscious. Sara's eyes searched the room for Avalon, finally spotting her laying on her stomach, on a cot in a far corner over past the salmon ladder.
She focused on Oliver, gesturing to the teen, "How was she?"
"She was perfect. Quiet in the beginning, but then we talked up until Laurel stumbled in."
Sara hummed, "Thank you for watching and protecting her, Ollie."
Oliver smiled, "Of course. You have a good kid there."
"I wish I could take all the credit." Sara uttered and she truly meant it.
She wished she had been the one to raise Avalon from a young age. To have been able to protect her, but she supposed that everything happened for a reason. She learned that after joining the Legends, getting stuck in the 1960s on one of the missions. She ended up traveling - back in a way - to Nanda Parbat where she met Talia Al-Ghul and joined the League of Assassins. In doing so, Sara had unknowingly named the woman who would save her life. This trip was what allowed Ra's Al-Ghul to know to send his not yet born younger daughter to Lian Yu to save the life of Sara Lance.
If Sara had gotten Avalon sooner, maybe Sara never would have left on the Gambit with Oliver. She never would have joined the Legends.
If Avalon had been with Sara, then the child inside of the teen wouldn't exist. And maybe if that child wasn't created then Avalon wouldn't be able to have her son later in life. Or if she did, then that son wouldn't grow up on the Waverider and start the Time Masters.
Laurel started to wake, confused and in a daze. She tried sitting up, but felt light-headed and dizzy, so she laid back down.
"How…how did I get here?" She asked
Sara rushed over to her sister, "We were hoping you could tell us."
"You said you had been kidnapped." Oliver chimed in
Laurel stared at him, dazed, "I did?" She shook her head, "I don't remember that."
"What's the last thing you do remember?" John inquired
There was a long moment of silence. The others could clearly see that the wheels were turning in Laurel's mind.
"Coming home from work." She uttered, "I think it was last night. Or maybe two nights ago."
Oliver, John and Sara exchanged glances with each other. Without being able to get more information from Laurel about what had happened to her and who had taken her, they wouldn't be able to figure out the why. Why had Laurel been targeted?
"Are you working on any difficult cases at work?" Sara questioned as the thought popped into her head.
Laurel didn't have any enemies, so it was likely that whoever took her was related to a case she either worked on. Or was currently working on.
The brunette Lance sister gave a tentative nod, "Yeah. Actually. I just closed a case of a man on trial for holding his wife and kids hostage. Horrible situation. He kept going on about how they were going to turn to dust."
"What happened to him?"
"He was deemed unfit to stand trial and remanded to a psychiatric facility until a time when he is competent to stand trial." She explained
Oliver hummed, "Did anyone of the family seem particularly angry about that?"
Laurel shook her head, "No. His wife just looked sad. I think she felt sorry for him. The younger kids looked confused, but the man - he did say something as he was being taken out of the court room. Most likely the ramblings of a crazy man, but it did strike a nerve in me."
"What did he say?" Sara probed
"He said we'd all turn to dust."
A deafening silence filled the room for a good ten minutes before Avalon broke the silence by calling out 'Mom'. She held out her phone as she emerged from the cot, heading towards the middle of the mainframe room of the Arrow bunker.
"She's calling me." Avalon announced
Sara met the teen halfway, "Who's calling?"
"My…" Avalon started, before clearing her throat, "Iridessa."
"Ignore it, kid." The blonde replied, "But how did she get your number?"
Avalon shrugged, "No idea. I didn't give it to her."
Oliver's attention caught, "Who's Iridessa?"
"Avi's biological mother. I'm in a sort of custody battle with her and her husband for me to be able to adopt Avi."
"Want the Arrow to pay them a visit?" He offered
Sara shook her head, "Nah. I got Felicity looking into them."
He nodded, "Well, if you change your mind, let me know."
