A Light Bearer's Rise
Chapter 2 A Bump in The Road and the Forging of a Ring
Pov: Omni
As William fell to his new world, a presence not felt since before the world was made, Morgoth notices him and lashes out having sensed what his power would mean for his discordant note. Despite using a large chunk of the power he was storing up to escape his sealing to do so, the target of his wrath is not killed but shards of light are scattered away from him far and wide around the world. During this attack, Morgoth felt and saw many things including the great enemies this being had faced. And so with the vast majority of his remaining strength Morgoth reached out and dragged some of these enemies here not realizing that in doing so he was not only sealing his doom but giving the man a second chance to save many that he failed.
As the light continues to fall to the earth below and Morgoth's Vision fades he can almost hear what sounds like someone laughing at him.
Pov: William
As the ground soars closer, several thoughts flash through his head. The major one being on how much that shadow hitting him HURT. The second most important one being on how much hitting the ground at this speed is gonna hurt, that is if he even survives. The last being about the last thing the R.O.B. said to him. About the Valar guiding him and how familiar that title was. And then he hit the ground and there was pain, and then darkness.
Minutes, maybe hours later, he wakes up with a groan and stretches as he gets up feeling far less sore than he should. Or far more given the height he fell from and how he would be too busy being dead to actually feel anything at all. Standing up fully, he takes stock of himself, checking his item bag to check for his weapons only to find all but the basic weapons and Marika's hammer missing. Not only that but he seems to be missing his spirit calling bell as well.
Hearing running water nearby and finding himself unbearably thirsty, he goes towards the sound and falls to his knees to drink from the stream. After several mouthfuls of surprisingly cold water, he sits back panting and glances into a nearby pool. Only to do a double take as he catches sight of his changed features, features which match what his character looked like. Having started with a Night Folk base, he had changed his skin to a more light tan color to be more human. He had also made his eyes purple for the heck of it and his hair long but pulled back into a low ponytail. Said hair he kept silver-colored but one thing stands out as he has slightly-pointed ears which his character didn't have. Beyond that, his physicality is entirely different. He feels stronger than he ever has. It no longer hurts to breath nor is he even slightly winded from the jog to the water like he would have been in his old body.
This incredible difference causes him to laugh in manic disbelief. Unable to decide whether he is upset at the loss of his old body and his humanity or happy to be free from the burdens of his poor genetics and even poorer life choices, he starts to make his way west and north, still laughing joyously, remembering seeing a gathering of lights in that general direction as he fell. After a few hours of walking, he finally decides that YES he is VERY grateful for his new body as despite being hours later he has yet to stop walking or tired of walking for that matter. During his walk, he had plenty of time to think about where he might be, which brought him back again and again to what R.O.B. said to him as he sent him on his way. About the Valar, it took an hour or two before he realized where he had heard the term but he finally remembered reading about it when he looked up the creation history for one of the many movie series he enjoyed: The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings! Not that he hadn't read the books but the movies were so much cooler!*1*
One of the many new changes to his body and mind seems to be a much sharper recall as, despite having centuries of memories stuffed into his brain, he can still remember the first time he met Bogart with perfect clarity. This has helped him as he has slowly gone through all the lore for Arda as well as what he remembers of the map of Middle Earth. From what he remembered, from when he was falling, he has managed to figure out basically where he is and has changed his course slightly as he seems to have landed near the Misty Mountains and Moria. But beyond that, he landed near a place of even greater importance. He landed near the plains of Eregion and more importantly still, near Ost-in-Edhil and where the Rings of Power for the elves were forged by Celebrimbor.
William blows into the ring to summon Torrent and lands upon his back in one smooth motion and starts riding off in that direction after having smacked himself for forgetting about the rather useful mount and takes off in a gallop. It takes another two hours of traveling upriver before he finally arrives at the ruins of Ost-in-Edhil. What a haunting sight the place is! The once-great city is now a shadow of its former self, with crumbling walls and broken arches that stand as a testament to the destruction wrought by Sauron's forces. The stones were worn and weathered, and the majority of buildings were now more than piles of rubble. The air is thick with the scent of decay, and the only sounds being the rustling of leaves and the occasional creaking of the old stone. Despite all the devastation, there is still a sense of grandeur to the ruins, a reminder of the glory that once was. There is an odd feeling in the air as William starts to explore the ruined city as if the stones are trying to tell him something: Deep they delved us, High they built us, Fair they wrought us, but they are gone. Shaking off the eerie feeling William continued exploring in the hope of finding something, something used by Celebrimbor himself.
It takes him hours more of digging through rubble and exploring a few barely standing buildings before he finally finds what he was looking for: a single still-intact elven anvil. One that gives of a feeling of loss and triumph, of Light and Darkness. By this time, it is almost noon and William is almost out of time to do what he plans to do, an act that while it will draw greater attention to himself, will allow him to stand toe-to-toe with the likes of Galadriel and Sauron the Deceiver.
He gathers himself as he sets up the forge proper pulling out three Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones as well as three Lords' Runes. He then pulls out Marika's hammer as he heats the Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones to form into a small ingot. And then with a deep breath, he takes hammer to anvil and metal.
Pov: The White Council
Many of The White Council look up at the same time Gandalf and Galadriel being the first to feel it as a wave of power sweeps through the land. A power very familiar and old yet so very new and different. To those sensitive enough it feels like the ringing of a hammer on an anvil in the stone halls of an empty mountain. Gandalf is lit with urgency as he hastens to Rivendell while Galadriel smiles knowingly at this feeling. Saruman the White too feels this power sweep the land and mumbles to himself, "This may yet change many things... I must prepare sooner," before speeding up his preparations.
Pov: The Ringwraiths
The Ringwraiths are the first to sense this new power HAMMER into being and shriek. However they continue their hunt for the One. For without it their lord will not be able to subjugate this new Ring. Though they note it's closeness just in case their can turn this new player to their will. Before they gallop off towards Hobbiton.
Pov: Sauron
He can feel it. A new ring is being hammered into creation. Oh well, this one will fall like all the rest. For now he should focus his energy on recovering his power.
Pov: William
William starts softly singing in Gaelic as he begins hammering the Lord's Runes into the mostly finished ring. A song of promise. A song of hope. And with each line the ring grows brighter and the light from it warmer. The song goes:
Arien, fear-iomchair an Teine Òir, guidheam ort, roinn do theine agus do sholas leam.
Lìon an soitheach beag so bheir mi le solas, Gus an loisg mi air falbh an dubhar.
Cuidich mi le m' dhion 's an t-saoghal so, Lìon an soitheach so le Solas chum 's nach meallar mo Shùilean, mo chridhe, 's m' inntinn.
Soillsich do sholas tromham gus an ruig e Sgàil gu lèir.
Mar sin is dòcha gun toir mi dòchas dha na h-uile dhaoine. Airson seo tha mi a' mionnachadh air an fhàinne seo gun sgrios mi gach olc.
Gus an fheadhainn lag agus gun chuideachadh a dhìon.
Airson a bhith nad Solas anns a' bheàrn gu bràth~!
(Translation at bottom of chapter.)
At the last hammer blow and the last word, the ring flashes as it is finally complete, and a voice rings inside William's mind and heart. {"I accept your oath little light. Go forth bravely into Shadow. Bring an end to all Shadow that meets your sight and my blessing shall be yours. Fail to do so and your light shall surely falter."} The clear female voice commands firmly but with great warmth as he holds the ring up to his eyes.*2*
William, rather startled by Arien actually responding to him forging the ring, slowly puts it on and gasps at the flood of warmth and strength that comes from it. As he looks around in wonder at the area, he notices a section of wall that isn't wall anymore but rather an alcove with a small chest in it. Upon setting his hand on the chest, it flashes and clicks open and inside are a few items. Inside is a small pouch with some gold as well as a green cloak with a pin in the shape of the two trees symbol of the Valinor. William rubs his hand on the pin of the cloak before putting it on with a smile, feeling a sense of safety and comfort as he looks around for a bit longer before exiting the building. It is almost nightfall but William neither feels tired or hungry nor has issues seeing as he mounts Torrent once more and takes off following the River Sirannon through the Swanfleet to Tharbad. The city is abandoned and mostly a ruin as well, though this feels more due to neglect rather than war as he rides through the town and onto the North-South Road, Also known as the Greenway. He heads north without stopping for food or rest as he feels a strange sense of urgency.
A/N: Well there you have the second chapter of the story. I am feeling pretty hyped to write this as it has been stewing in my head for some time now. So I will be continuing on with this immediately. Here are your translations and such.
*1* just my opinion as movie smaug was MUCH cooler than the book smaug. Though this will include references to the shadow of mordor and shadow of war games as well.
(Translation for the song/oath he sings as he forges his ring.)
Arien, the bearer of the Golden Fire, I beseech you, share your fire and your light with me.
Fill this little vessel I carry with Light, Until I burn away the shadow.
Help me with my protection in this world, Fill this vessel with Light so that my Eyes, my heart, and my mind are not deceived.
Shine your light through me until it reaches all Shadow.
So I might bring Hope to all peoples good.
For this I swear on this ring that I will destroy all evil.
To protect the weak and helpless.
To be a Light in the Void forever!
