Touring Sandgem Town and Settling In
After leaving Professor Rowan's lab, Lincoln and Sam are being led through Sandgem Town by Dawn.
"So, what would you like to see first?" asked Dawn.
"Pretty much everything." said Sam.
"Sure." said Dawn as she starts leading the two through the town. They soon stop at a moderate-sized building with a red roof.
"What's this place?" asked Lincoln.
"This is the Sandgem Pokemon Center." said Dawn.
"Pokemon Center?" replied Lincoln.
"You sound like you don't know what Pokemon Centers are." said Dawn.
"We're basically beginners when it comes to Pokemon so we don't know a whole lot." Lincoln admits.
"We're from somewhere that doesn't really have them." said Sam.
"Really? I thought Pokemon existed everywhere in the world." Dawn replied.
"Maybe in this world." said Lincoln.
"What does that mean?" asked Dawn.
"It's a long story." said Sam. Dawn got a confused look on her face, but she decides to drop the subject and just goes on with the explanation.
"Pokemon Centers are basically medical facilities that treat Pokemon." said Dawn. "There in just about every town or city, and they're easy to find because they all have the same red roofs on them."
"How much does treatment for Pokemon cost?" asked Lincoln.
"Oh, their services are complimentary." said Dawn. The three then walk over to a building that has a blue roof on it.
"What's this place?" asked Sam.
"This is a PokeMart." said Dawn. "It's a store that sells items that trainers need or use to catch and treat Pokemon while on the road." Lincoln leans his bike against the building and the three then head inside and look around. As they do, Lincoln puts his hands in his pockets and feels some small objects in one of them; he pulls them out and sees that they were the bottle caps that he was practicing magic tricks with back at the Royal Woods High School.
"What you got there, Lincoln?" asked Sam, getting Dawn's attention who notices them.
"You have bottle caps?" asked Dawn.
"Why? Is that bad?" asked Lincoln.
"Don't you know how valuable bottle caps are?" asked Dawn.
"What do you mean?" asked Sam.
"You can sell those and get good money for them." explained Dawn, surprising Lincoln.
'I didn't think about money before going to another universe; let alone if the money from ours would be good wherever we ended up.' Lincoln thought to himself. He goes up to the front counter and hands them to the clerk, surprising him.
"Where did you find those?" asked the clerk.
"I found them lying around somewhere." said Lincoln. "How much can I get for them?"
"Let's see." said the clerk. "Six bottle caps would get you..." Later outside the PokeMart, Lincoln and Sam look at the big wad of cash they had.
"Fifteen thousand?!" says Lincoln.
"That is awesome." said Sam. After that, the three finished the tour of Sandgem and return to Professor Rowan's lab where he was waiting for them.
"So how was your tour?" asked Professor Rowan.
"We learned quite a bit." said Lincoln.
"So, what are you going to do now?" asked Professor Rowan.
"Are there any apartments for rent here?" asked Sam. Professor Rowan then goes in and brings out a newspaper.
"No apartments I know about." said Professor Rowan as he looks through the classifieds. "But there is a beachside cabin for rent."
"How much is rent?" asked Sam.
"Two thousand pokedollars a month." said Professor Rowan.
"Awesome!" said Lincoln. "We just got fifteen thousand pokedollars."
"Where did you get that?" asked Professor Rowan.
"Lincoln had bottle caps which he sold for that." explained Dawn.
"Quite fortunate that you did." said Professor Rowan. He then contacted the cabin's owner and arranged to meet him there in half an hour.
They walked to the south part of Sandgem Town where they soon arrive at a decent-sized, one floor cabin that was near a beach. Twenty minutes later, the cabin's owner arrives and gives Lincoln and Sam a tour of it. The cabin was fully furnished, had a living room with a large couch and recliner, coffee table, and a wall-mounted, flat screen TV in it, plus a kitchen, dining room that had a table for four people (six if they used the table addition and extra chairs), two bedrooms with queen-sized beds in them, and to Lincoln's delight; two bathrooms.
After the tour, they worked out a payment plan with Lincoln giving the owner two thousand pokedollars for the first month's rent. Once everything was taken care of, Professor Rowan, Dawn, and the owner leave to allow Lincoln and Sam to get settled in. The two then unpack what they brought, then go into town to a grocery store where they bought some more food, along with toiletries.
"Good thing that this world has the same kind of food in our universe." said Lincoln.
"So how much cash do we have left?" asked Sam.
"After the first rent, plus the stuff we got from the grocery store; we got about twelve thousand pokedollars left." said Lincoln.
"How long are we staying here?" asked Sam.
"Maybe a couple months." said Lincoln. "Hopefully after that, things will have settled down back in Royal Woods."
"What should we do in the meantime to keep busy?" asked Sam.
"I could give Pokemon training a try." said Lincoln.
"Yeah, it did seem kind of cool." admitted Sam.
"I heard about a school in a city that teaches kids about Pokemon in a city north of here called Jubilife." said Lincoln. "Enrollment is only five hundred pokedollars."
"That doesn't sound so bad." said Sam.
"Yeah, I took that into consideration while planning our budget." said Lincoln.
"Would you need school supplies?" asked Sam.
"I got a notebook and some pencils I brought to doodle with while away from home if I got bored." said Lincoln. "I could use those as school supplies."
"That's good." said Sam.
"I'll enroll tomorrow." said Lincoln.
"I'll see about finding a job to earn some more money in the meantime." said Sam.
"Are you sure?" asked Lincoln.
"It'll give me something to do while you're at that Pokemon School." said Sam.
"Okay, then." said Lincoln. Soon, night came, and Sam was laying on the couch while Lincoln sat on the recliner, both of them watching television. Lincoln began to drift off to sleep, but he was able to keep himself awake, which Sam notices.
"I think it's time we turned in for the night, Lincoln." said Sam. Lincoln lets out a yawn.
"Yeah, I'm kind of sleepy." replied Lincoln. He turns off the television and he and Sam left the living room. They each went to a separate bathroom to shower and brush their teeth. After that, they all went to their bedrooms.
"Good night, bro." Sam says with a smile from her room.
"Night, sis." said Lincoln with a smile from his room. Remembering the Dimensional Watch on his wrist, he takes it off and puts it in the nightstand drawer next to his bed for safe keeping. The two soon fell asleep to rest up for tomorrow.
