Another set of one shots.

3. Chapter 3

Fire starter:

The neighbours of Privet drive, Little Whinging were all out in the front gardens. The weather was beautiful so they decided to get some chores done. They mowed laws, pruned and weeded the garden beds along with washing their cars and the windows of the house.

It was a normal sunny Sunday in Privet drive.

That all changed when they saw smoke coming from number four Privet drive, but that wasn't the only difference. Just as many began to run towards the house, they saw a small child with dark hair lying on the front steps. He wasn't moving. Many went into their houses to use their phones, to call the fire brigade but also the police. One man had pulled his hose from his house and connected it to number four. He kept the water on the roof while they waited for the fire brigade to arrive.

The woman from number six checked the boy and found him to be alive but unresponsive. She picked the small child up and moved him into her yard away from the fire. She had her husband get a blanket and call and ambulance. She laid him on the blanket but pulled some over the small boy.

By the time the sirens were heard, the house was a raging ball of flames. The man with the hose had given up due to the heat. All the neighbours were now standing on the road in front of number six.

The fire brigade instantly began to fight the fire while the police began to ask the people if they knew what happened.

For the next few days, all anyone in Little Whinging could talk about was the fire at number four privet drive and how Vernon, Petunia, Dudley and Marge Dursley had perished in the fire, which seemed to have started in the kitchen. There was another woman in the house who also died but so far, they had not found out who she was.

They had heard that the little boy was not a Dursley, but Petunia's nephew. So far they did not know any more about him and if the woman who also died, was his mother. He was fine but was still in hospital.

It was two weeks later when the police had found out the woman who died in the fire along with the Dursley's was Arabella Figg, a woman who lived in Magnolia crescent and was not related to the small dark haired boy.

The police were able to find out that the boy's first name was Harry, but still they could not find out where his parents were and what his last name was. They did find out that Petunia Dursley had a sister named Lily. From the time she was eleven, there were no more records of Lily Evans. They believed she must be Harry's mother but until they could find out more, they just didn't know. They had not been able to question Harry. It seems he couldn't talk and was very fearful of everyone. The doctor looking after Harry did give the police a copy of the boy's file. It showed that the boy had been badly mistreated, even going as far as starving the boy. They thought he was around two years old. They could not find out why he never spoke as they did not find any damage to his vocal chords.

One of the police that was working the case had a suspicion. He decided to speak with his cousin.

'William, got a minute?'

'Greg, this is a surprise. I haven't seen you in a couple of years.'

'Yeah, when the family get together, I end up working. How's the family?'

'Good, really good. Gwen has taken the kids out otherwise you'd see how much they had grown. So, is there something I can help with?'

'Yes, first let me explain. From the time I was fourteen, I got suspicious about...well, sorry, you. If I'm right then you might be able to help with a case I'm working on. A small boy around two years old survived a house fire. Now I found out the boy's name was Harry and was the nephew of the woman who died in the fire, along with her husband, her husband's sister and their son. The aunt of young Harry was Petunia Dursley, she had a sister who seemed to have disappeared, from the age of eleven. Petunia and her sister Lily's last name was Evan's. We believe that Lily is Harry's mother but can't find out for sure. Harry is still in the hospital due to abuse the Dursley's put him through. At first he was there because he had inhaled a lot of smoke, now it's to help fix all his problems that the Dursley's caused.'

Greg stared at his cousin, 'So what do you think you know about me?'

'You're from some secret society that most of us aren't told about. This Lily Evan's disappeared at the age of eleven. There's no death mentioned, no school records, nothing. You could never tell us about the school you went to, from the age of eleven. If I'm wrong just say so, but I'm trying to help this little boy. He doesn't speak so getting information has been impossible and he's too young to read or write.'

Greg nodded, 'He turned three on the thirty first of July, so he's three and half years old. Lily Evan's married James Potter and yes, we all went to the same school. We have to abide by our secrecy laws or we could end up in jail. Now James and Lily were killed in October thirty first of nineteen eighty one, when Harry was fifteen months old. Harry is very famous in our world, which is why I knew who you were talking about. None of us ever found out where he was hidden, only that it was to keep him safe from the supporters of the man who killed his parents. No one in...our world would ever believe he would be hidden with his...um, normal aunt.'

'Normal, she's a child abuser, that's not normal William.'

'I know, I mean normal compared to me and people like the Potter's. I can't tell you Greg, I'm not allowed. Only mum and dad knew and their the only ones who can know out of the family. I could tell a sibling, but I never had any. Okay, back to Harry. He could be in danger if...certain people find out he's in a normal hospital. I know someone I can talk to that will help move him and put him somewhere safe. Um, if you give your word, as family, you can retain your knowledge of this but everyone who was involved will not remember anything about Harry. It's for our safety and his. Promise me Greg that you will act like you know nothing?'

Greg stared at his cousin and could tell the man was very serious, so he made a promise. He explained where Harry was and who knows about him. Greg did explain about how the files were in computers. William knew all about them so he would take care of the information on the computers.

'Could you let me know how the boy is, just occasionally. I came to like that kid. He's so scared of everyone and everything. The first time I went into his room, I found him hiding under the bed, with a blanket covering his entire body and he was curled up in a small ball shaking like a leaf. It was like he was scared of everything and trying to hide from the world. They can't find anything wrong with his throat so they have no idea why he doesn't speak, especially now you said he was three years old and not two.'

'He witnessed his mother's murder, so it could be caused by what happened that night. Our...doctors will be able to find out. As for your question about the boy, alright, you deserve to know.'

The cousins spoke for a while longer before Greg left. William went into his office. He sat at his desk and wrote his letter, about Harry. He left his office and went to the attic where he attached the letter to a leather strap on his owl's leg.

'Take that to Amelia Bones in the department of magical law enforcement. If she wants to reply, wait for her.'

William watched the owl fly off before he headed back down to the kitchen. Even though he was preparing himself some lunch, he couldn't stop thinking about the-boy-who-lived and how he had been abused. It would come as a shock to anyone that Amelia Bones talks to about this. He just hoped that Madam Bones would be able to give Harry to a good family, who would care for him but also protect him from the death eaters that never went to jail for their crimes.

It was only an hour later that William opened the door, 'Come in Madam Bones.'

Amelia and two aurors walked inside, 'You said this was about Harry Potter. What is going on William?'

'As you know, I'm a muggleborn. Well, my cousin is a muggle policeman. He turned up here today. He had been suspicious of me for years but never told anyone. He doesn't know who we are or anything about our world, he just knows we're different. He said he was investigating the death of a family in a fire. A small boy was found on the porch. It was Harry Potter. I never saw him but after everything my cousin told me, I worked out who he was. He was abused. They all believed he was two years old. He has never spoken so the police could not find out who he is, all they know is his name is Harry. My cousin did find out that the woman who died, petunia Dursley had a sister, Lily, their last name was Evans. This all happened two weeks ago and the boy is still in the hospital due to the abuse those Dursley's did to him. I knew I had to be quick before the wrong people found out.'

'You did the right thing. Now we have to work on who knows so we can send obliviators.'

'They will also need to know how to erase the information their computers.'

'We've all be studying those since we do have to erase information. I will make sure the ones that go have studied muggle technology. I always wondered where he was hidden. He might have been safe from the death eaters but it seems Albus did not believe he needed protecting from the muggles. Well, we have a lot of work to do and we will need to place the boy with someone who can care for him but also protect him, which means he will be returning to the wizarding world.'

'Doesn't James Potter have family still alive?'

'Yes, a few distant cousins. Some are dark so if I go that route I will need to make sure they aren't supporters. You said he doesn't speak?'

'No but the muggle doctors could not find anything wrong. It could be because he witnessed his mother's death.'

'Which means it will take a long time with our mind healers to see if they can help him, or he may never speak again. For all we know it could be a side-affect of surviving the killing curse, even though I still have trouble believing that's what happened. From everything I found out, Lily Potter was exceptional as a student. After what happened to my family, apart from Susan, I could easily see how any parent could resort to illegal or dark magic to protect her baby. I'm not sure I would use dark magic but I would do whatever I have to so Susan is safe.'

'From what I know, James Potter was also brilliant even if he liked to joke around. Maybe it was soul magic that allowed him to survive.'

'I had the same thought but since he was hidden right after, you nor your colleagues could examine him. Everything we know has been told to us by Albus Dumbledore, so again, it's hard to know what is the truth and what isn't. Alright, I best get this done. He will be hidden in the secure ward at St Mungo's that only aurors and unspeakables can enter, apart from the head healer, who happens to be a mind healer. Once you speak with Croaker, he will either go himself or send you.'

It took a few hours but the aurors and obliviators were able to deal with all the staff at the hospital along with visitors. They erased all the information on Harry before Amelia had to stun the young boy who ended up terrified of the new people who came to his room.

William had help from his cousin so he could obliviate anyone in the police force that knew about Harry. William also erased the information from the computers. They also went to little whinging to obliviate all the neighbours who had seen Harry when the Dursley's home had been on fire.

Now no muggle would ever remember anything about Harry Potter, the-boy-who-lived.

Time skip:

The Hogwarts staff were getting ready for the students to return to Hogwarts. The headmaster would never admit it, but he was anxious about a new student who would be starting this year. He decided that since he still had a few weeks before the students returned, he would go speak with an old friend, just to see how the boy was.

Albus moved towards his fireplace and called the address. The floo refuse to connect.

'That is very unusual,' Albus tried again, still the floo refuse to connect, 'I will have to go there by apparition.'

Since Albus was the headmaster, he was the only person who could apparate or disapparate while inside Hogwarts. He turned on the spot and disappeared from his office. He arrived in the back garden of a house in Surrey.

Albus looked around as he moved towards the house. The first thing he noticed was the yard was filled with children's toys and things like swings. He knew Arabella did not have any children so he had no idea why there would be children's toys. He thought maybe she looked after children which is why she bought things children could play with. He quickly cast the disillusionment charm on himself then entered the house. He instantly knew that another family lived in the house. Arabella's house was always a mess and it was usually filled with cats. The house was clean and tidy, with many pictures of a family, with five children and none of the pictures showed Arabella.

'Something must have happened to the old dear which is why she never contacted me. I best go see the boy, to make sure he is still with his aunt.'

Albus kept the charm on and walked to Privet drive. Even though he had not been here in ten years, he instantly knew the house was different. It did not look exactly like the other houses, which is what he remembered from the night he left the boy. He used magic to sneak into the house and instantly saw family pictures and it was not pictures of the Dursley's. He decided to search the house just to make sure but he already knew that the boy was not here.

Albus found the woman of the house feeding a small baby girl. He decided to find out what he could from her so he entered her mind.

Albus had to use every bit of concentration to get back to Hogwarts. He sent his patronus off to Minerva the moment he sat down.

'I am very busy right now Albus so I hope this won't take long.'

'I went to speak with Arabella Figg to find out how Harry was going. He's not there, none of them are there. There is another house at number four with a new family. I found out that the house was built two years after leaving Harry there. The entire family, apart from a small baby boy burned to death in a fire. The muggle police took the boy away. From what we've all heard, it would be impossible to erase information from their hospitals or police, yet it could be impossible to get the information on where Harry is.'

'If they died did Harry end up hurt?'

'The woman's mind did not have any information, only what she heard from a neighbour from another street, this was after she moved in. The neighbour did not know much as she had only seen a small bit before she had to leave.'

'If you want to find him before the letters go out, you will need to speak with some of your auror contacts. In another week, his letter was going to be sent. If he is with people who do not know of our world, that will complicate things, especially if they are now his family and may not wish him to come to Hogwarts.'

'I'll speak with Alastor first. He will know which young auror may have knowledge of all the muggle technology. Have his letter ready to send straight away in case we have trouble finding him.

It was later that day that Albus spoke with Alastor Moody. He knew of a young auror who had a muggleborn father. She knows all about the muggle world along with all their contraptions.

Alastor left Hogwarts and went to the ministry. Since Dora was young and still in her first year of training, she would have the night shifts. He found her at one of the desks.

'Dora, do you have a minute for us to talk.'

'Mad-eye,' Dora said sounding surprised, 'Um, sure, we can use the conference room.'

Alastor knew the way so he stomped off. Once Dora closed the door he cast many sealing and silencing charms.

'What's going on that you need so many spells in the auror office?'

'It's about young Harry Potter. It seems he's missing. His muggle relatives died years ago and the squib that Albus put near them to keep an eye on him also died. We don't have the knowledge of all those contraptions the muggle used. Albus asked me to speak with you and see if you can go find out where he is before owls with letters begin turning up for him.'

'Oh, sure, I can do that but it'll have to be on the weekend. I'm on night's for the next four days and it would be impossible to go through the day.'

'That's fine. It's another week before the letters go out. Albus can delay his letter until after you find out if he will need a visit or not. Everyone in our world will be expecting him to turn up so we have to explain to whoever has him that they will have no choice but to send him. If he doesn't, people like Malfoy will get Fudge involved.'

'Yes, he's also cutting costs to this office and I'm sure Malfoy is the one behind it. I'll let you know the moment I find out.'

'Good lass.'

Dora watched her old mentor remove the spells before leaving. She went back to her desk. Instead of going back to what she had been working on, she began to write a letter.

In a secluded home in the country, an owl flew in and landed in front of the woman. She removed the letter but told the owl to wait.

'They know love,' Andy said showing her husband the letter.

'We knew sooner or later they would find out. I am surprised it's taken Albus this long to find out that Harry isn't with those people.'

'He probably assumed Figg would have contacted him if there had been a problem. Well, he is going to be questioned a lot when Harry doesn't turn up.'

'Only us, Amelia, William and Croaker knows the truth. Croaker and William are both unspeakables and Amelia is the head of the DMLE. Albus won't get anything out of them and none of them are linked to us.'

'No and since the scar is gone and his hair is lighter, I'm not sure any would recognise him. It was told to everyone that he was the spitting image of James, yet looking at him now, he doesn't look like either James or Lily. Dora will keep us informed but Harry is safe here. I just wish he could interact with other children.'

'It took years before he was comfortable with us, it would take a long time again for him to allow himself to get close to anyone else, even another child. We take him out, he gets to see a lot and he's learnt more in the last two years than Hogwarts would teach him in five years. He will go on to be a great potions master, if he wanted to.'

'I'm not sure he will want to sit his test, he just likes making potions. I better answer Dora.'

It was a week later that Dora wrote to Alastor. She explained that there was no information in any computers at the hospital or police about Harry Potter. She wrote that she spent two full nights going through everything, there was nothing. She didn't really do any of that since she knew exactly Where Harry was. But she did go and speak with William and they made it seem like she had been there looking through their files in case Alastor or Albus got someone else to check the police files.

'Without finding out where they put him, I doubt we will ever find him.' Alastor said.

'And for all we know, he may have been adopted and his family moved and never let anyone know their new address. They could have also moved overseas. I will need to speak with all of my contacts to try to find the boy. Thank you Alastor. Let me know if you find out anything.'

'I will Albus.'

Harry was now thirteen, yet no one apart from a few knew where he was. He was still a shy, scared boy who hardly spoke. He loved his new family and the other couple of people he had seen at the house but he preferred to spend his time alone, making potions or flying. He did like learning spells but his passion was potions.

Harry had come into the house after having a fly. He saw the back of a strange man. When the man turned sideways, Harry knew he had never see that man before. His family said that no one would come to the house because they knew Harry didn't like strangers.

At first Harry had been scared at seeing the strange mean-looking man walking around his home. Then he just got angry. He knew he had to stay hidden, Andy and Ted had explained everything to him. He decided to very quietly moved to his secret room. He jumped when he heard the man shout.

'Got you.'

Harry's body tingled but he didn't have time to figure out what was happening. He just hurried to his room and slipped into the secret room that was inside his wardrobe. He didn't hear the man as he began to scream when his body became engulfed in flames.

It was only a half an hour later that Andy opened the secret room to find Harry curled up under the bed.

'Harry, it's me sweetheart, it's mum. It's safe.'

Harry crawled out and rushed into Andy's arms, 'I saw a mean man so I raced in here.'

Andy nodded but kept a tight hold of Harry, 'He's gone now but you did the right thing, just like we taught you,' she wasn't sure if she should tell Harry that her and Ted found a pile of ash in the middle of the conservatory. A few spells told them that the ash had once been a person. She would speak with her husband before they decide if they should tell Harry.

It took a while before Andy and Ted were able to get Harry to settle.

'Can you tell us anything about what the man looked like?' Ted asked.

'He had black hair, it reached the top of his shoulders and it looked dirty, greasy. He was wearing black robes and he had a really big nose. He looked mean. He said got you. I was already hurrying to the room. He looked mean dad.'

'It's alright now son, I'll let Dora know. She may be able to find out who he was and why he was in our home. Are you feeling okay now?'

'Yeah, I was scared mainly because he looked so mean. You explained about those death eaters and he just reminded me of them. It's why I hid.'

'You did the right thing. He was wearing black robes and as you said, he looked mean, so he might have been one of them. You made sure you were safe, that's the most important thing.'

'We've decided on a new charm for the house. It's called the fidelius charm. Only people who have been given permission to see the house can get in. I am the one that holds the secret of where we are so I'm the only one that can allow people in. Apart from the family, we are only telling, Amelia, William and Croaker. No one else will ever know where we are. The whole property is safe so no one will be able to find it. You were inside when it was cast so you automatically have permission,' Ted said with a smile.

'So I can still go outside?'

'Yes, it covers the entire property so you can still have a lot of places to go. This charm is very old and not many people know about it. Even if they did, they still could not see this house, not without Ted giving permission,' Andy said giving Harry a very gentle hug, 'So why don't you go fly for a while. It always makes you feel better.'

'Alright, mum,' Harry gave his parents another hug then went to get his broom. He knew they weren't his birth parents, but they had raised him and even called him their son. To Harry, they were his parents.

'It sounds like Snape,' Ted said.

'I believe Albus is checking with anyone that is related to James, even distantly related. If we get a letter about Snape, we just say we never saw him. I'll send a letter to Dora. Usually it's the younger aurors who deal with missing people but she can check their files to see if they find anything.'

'We'll probably get a letter by tomorrow. When Harry didn't turn up at Hogwarts, Albus began to get desperate. Albus is under a lot of pressure to find him. I thought eventually Albus would believe Harry had left the country with his new family. Croaker put out those rumours in the hope it would keep anyone looking here.'

'He might believe he is overseas but he is checking here as well. They will never find him, not until he is an adult and then it will be up to Harry. He's a little older now and he's not as scared as he was. It might be time for him to interact with some other children. We'll talk to him about that later. What I would like to know right now is why he turned into ash?'

'There have been a few incidents of fire Andy and we always believed it was his accidental magic. Those people that hurt him did die in a fire, now Snape. I would say he has a gift of controlling fire, yet he can't control it because he doesn't realise what he is able to do, which means we'll have to work with him with this.'

'Then we have to make sure he doesn't find out that Snape ended up dead because he caused fire. I doubt he would remember the Dursley's. We don't want anything to set him back so we'll have to be careful how we explain all this to Harry.'

Ted and Andy knew the truth about Harry, he was a fire-starter. He would need to be filled in yet they could not tell Harry he was the one to kill the Dursley's or Snape. It could set Harry back. It took them years before the boy finally spoke and years before Harry trusted them. They were not going to allow anyone or anything to hurt Harry again. He might not be their biological son, but they loved him like a son, just as Harry loved them. He even called them mum and dad now and thought of them as his parents.

It wasn't Dora who was assigned the job of finding Severus Snape. It was another junior auror. The auror, hated Snape as she had been one of his students. She would act like she was doing her job but she wasn't going to put in the time or effort in finding out what happened to the man. Anyone that had potions with Snape hated him, unless you were a Slytherin so Dora knew her friend wouldn't really bother trying to find out what happened to Snape. Dora would check the files, just to make sure Harry wasn't mentioned or her parents. She would protect her family any way she can.

Andromeda had a letter addressed to her arrive the following day from Albus Dumbledore. He asked if she had been visited by Severus Snape. Andy sent a reply back, stating she had not seen that death eater and asked why Albus believed she would have seen him. As far as she was concerned, Snape was and always will be a death eater and he had ruined many careers since he became a teacher at Hogwarts. She wrote that if he had turned up at her home, she would have him arrested.

Albus would know instantly that Andromeda Tonks did not like him or Severus. He would also believe she had not seen Severus. Albus had begun to send Severus out to visit anyone related to James Potter, even distantly. Severus would do one or two visits every couple of weeks, when he had time, from the list Albus got him. That meant Albus had no idea who Severus was going to visit.

Alastor had spoken with Andromeda's daughter and he believed the girl had no idea about Harry Potter. Albus always knew it was a long shot that the Tonks family would know anything about Harry. Albus believed Harry had been adopted by some muggle family and now had a different name. The muggle family may have moved overseas or they may have used muggle medical techniques to get rid of the lightning bolt scar on Harry's forehead. They sent out many letters, but the owls were never able to find Harry Potter.

Albus had heard the odd rumour that Harry had been adopted and the family moved to America. He had some contacts who went to that country in the hope they could find Harry, so far, no luck, so Albus wasn't sure what to believe. One thing Albus had begun to believe, he would never find the boy and everyone was blaming him for losing the-boy-who-lived since it was his idea to put Harry Potter with his muggle relatives.

Andy and Ted had been teaching Harry magic from the time he came to live with them. He could easily take his owls now even though he was only thirteen. He could even do his newts in a few subjects. So far Harry wasn't interested in sitting any tests, he just like to learn. They hoped they could talk Harry into sitting his newts during the summer holidays after he turned fifteen.

It was a few days after Snape had been in their home that Andy and Ted began to explain to Harry about certain gifts that some magical people could have. They had explained to Harry not long after they got there about their daughter and Dora had shown Harry her gift. They already knew Harry was a parselmouth. They found out by accident when they heard Harry hissing at a snake and their heard the snake hissing at Harry. At first they had been scared until they realised Harry was having a conversation with the snake.

Harry had another ability, he was like Nymphadora, who was a metamorphmagus. Dora instantly began to teach him how to use his gift. It's how they had been able to go out and make sure Harry wasn't recognised. Even though he had changed as he grew, being able to change completely kept him safe. That ability ran in the Black family but so far Nymphadora was the first in more than three hundred years to have that ability. Harry was distantly related to Andy, who was born a black, so again, he got that ability from the bit of Black blood Harry was linked to. They had no idea where he got the ability to talk to snakes from. That was not a gift that the Black's or Potter's had. They put it down to the fact that Voldemort was a parselmouth and he had tried to kill Harry.

Now they found out he had another magical ability, he was a fire-starter.

They explained to Harry what they discovered and now it was the time to find out if they could help Harry control this ability. He had killed with it even if Harry didn't know he had. Both times he had been hurt or scared. They had to work on a way for Harry to learn to control it in case he used it again and in front of others which could have Harry sent to Azkaban. It was time to step up his studies, just this time it would be teaching Harry something that they themselves could not do.

During the summer holidays, Dora got word from William about an event being held at Hogwarts. William and Croaker were concerned that Dumbledore might be trying to use the triwizard tournament to force Harry to Hogwarts. The two unspeakables, Amelia and the Tonks family got together and spoke about this. It was Croaker who informed everyone that Harry would be safe even if his name was entered. The goblet of fire always stayed in the department of mysteries until it was used for the triwizard tournament. He had studied it for years and was an expert on the goblet of fire. Croaker explained that it did not matter what name was written on the parchment that was dropped into the goblet, it would be the person who dropped the parchment in that would be connected to the goblet and the triwizard tournament.

'So we just have to wait until the selection to find out if Albus is trying to use this to get to Harry,' Ted said.

'Yes. I do believe he will try this as he is getting desperate, he may even work it for someone else to drop the parchment in so he can't be accused of rigging the tournament. I also believe that some of the children of death eaters might use this to cause injury or death to some of the muggleborns. Those death eaters also might tell their children to add Harry's name in the hope he would have no choice but to turn up and ended up killed. No one apart from an unspeakable have studied the goblet of fire, so no one would know that it would not connect to the name of the person on the parchment unless that person put his own name on the parchment and into the goblet of fire.'

'So someone like Draco Malfoy, Theodore Nott and others may end up a squib or injured,' Dora said.

'Yes, they are two I believe will try this. From what my contacts have told me, those along with a few other Slytherin's are the ones hurting or causing major problems at Hogwarts. We believe they will use this opportunity to turn some muggleborns into squibs. We also know Lucius Malfoy has tried to find Harry.'

'Albus Dumbledore just refuses to expel a student. He is beginning to give Hogwarts a bad name but no one will dismiss him,' Andy said.

'Not with his reputation. He has lost many of his supporters but he still had enough that he is safe from losing his jobs.'

It was on Halloween that the champions would be selected. It was as they thought. Harry's name came out of the goblet of fire. What no one expected was, it wasn't just Albus Dumbledore who was rendered into a squib, but Mad-eye Moody along with some Slytherin students. After some investigation by Amelia Bones and Croaker, it was discovered that Mad-eye Moody wasn't really Mad-eye, it was Barty Crouch junior, using polyjuice potion. It seemed both men, Albus and Barty lost their magic and were now they were paying the price. Witches and wizards could not live long without magic. It also meant that Albus would finally be gone from Hogwarts. Hopefully the new headmaster would get tougher on students.

Crouch was sent straight back to Azkaban. His father was also sent to Azkaban when it was discovered he was the one that took his son out of the jail years before. Albus Dumbledore ended up being removed from his position as headmaster, as chief warlock and supreme mugwump. He ended up having to live with his brother. Only a few knew the reasons why someone as powerful as Dumbledore ended up a squib.

A dozen students all ended up squibs as well. Nine Slytherin's, two Ravenclaw's and one Gryffindor all had to leave Hogwarts and return to their families. It was explained that the goblet of fire connected to the person who placed the parchment in the goblet, not the name on the parchment. If they entered someone else without that person's permission, the goblet would take their magic. Draco Malfoy had placed parchment in the goblet and the name was a muggleborn girl who ended up showing up many pure-bloods with her intelligence. The other Slytherin's had tried to enter students they didn't like, whether they were a muggleborn or pure-blood. The two Ravenclaw girls who ended up as squibs, were bullies who had entered a thirteen year old girl hoping she would end up badly injured. The boy from Gryffindor, Ron Weasley, he had wanted to get Draco Malfoy killed so he entered his name. All those students were now gone from Hogwarts and still no one knew where Harry Potter was.

At the end of the triwizard tournament, one of the competitors had been kidnapped. She had been found days later, badly hurt, but alive. What surprised the aurors were the badly disfigured bodies found near her. One body shocked the aurors. The body of Peter Pettigrew was found near Fleur Delacour but what was also shocking, he had the dark mark on his arm. The aurors investigated and found that Sirius Black did not betray the Potters nor was he the secret keeper. Peter Pettigrew was a death eater and had been the Potter's secret keeper. Now he was dead and Sirius was cleared of all charges. No one had seen Sirius since he escaped from Azkaban but notices went into all the wizarding world's newspapers so he will know he does not have to hide anymore. No one knew where Sirius was, he hadn't been seen since he escaped Azkaban a year before. Many believed he was trying to find Harry to kill him, now they believed that he was trying to find Harry who was his godson, so they could get to know each other.

Once Fleur was healed, she explained what happened. After being kidnapped, stunned and had blood taken from her, she had been cursed as well. When a man tried to use the killing curse on her, her veela side appeared, something she had no control over. It always happened if her life was in danger. The veela killed every person who had been there, all were known death eaters, except one man but he had been so badly disfigured, no one could figure out who he was.

Andy and Ted had been talking about Sirius while Harry was outside flying.

'Sirius did love Harry but he was hot head, he was reckless and he joined the order of the phoenix. For all we know he still supports Dumbledore. But we also know what Azkaban can do to people so it could have changed him,' Andy said.

'He also might be angry at people like Dumbledore who never bothered to give him a trial. We could write to him Andy, find out what he is like before we decide if Harry should know about him,' Ted said.

'He did love James which is why he was named godfather. From what we found out, he did turn up at the house that night but he never took Harry, he allowed Hagrid to take him to Dumbledore.'

'Yes, which was wrong. He was young and as you said, hot headed. Azkaban usually send people insane, yet he managed to escape and stay hidden. We won't know how he is or why he didn't take Harry until we've heard from him. He can't come here, we can meet him somewhere else. You are his cousin, so it's easy to make him believe you just wanted to connect with him as family. Harry's name doesn't even need to be mentioned.'

'Alright, I'll write to him and we'll go from there. Either way, he will not be taking Harry away.'

'No, William, Croaker and Amelia made sure we are his parents, adopted, but it's all legal.'

Andy did write to Sirius, it took a week for them to receive a letter. They agreed to meet up but in the muggle world. Sirius wrote that he literally did not want anything to do with the wizarding world when he was deserted by people he knew and ended up in Azkaban without even given a trial.

'I don't blame you Sirius. Even people you worked beside did not speak up for you. You were part of the order yet Albus Dumbledore did not speak up for you, he did speak up for the death eater, Snape. As far as I could find out, no one even asked if you had a trial or what the outcome was. I did not know you didn't receive one until you wrote me. When I did ask about you, I was informed that you confessed. With our family Sirius, it's easy to assume any of us could have been acting.'

'Our family name is dark Andy. My only regret was Harry. The moment I escaped I began to use my animagus form to hear everything I could. It took me more than a month before I found out he was missing. I still couldn't find out where Hagrid took him or anything about why he didn't turn up at Hogwarts. I kept hoping that somehow he ended up with a good family and they just moved or something. I was wrong not to tell Hagrid Harry was staying with me, but I figured Albus planned to take Harry to see a healer. I was so angry at what Peter did. We never suspected him, not at all. I also knew I could not fight Hagrid as it could have hurt Harry. Do you know anything about Harry?'

'I could find out as I do have friends at Hogwarts and the ministry. I'll speak to them and let you know. Where are you staying?'

'Uncle Alphiard left me everything, I ended up buying a home in the country. I did contemplate leaving the country, but I wanted to see if I could find out more about Harry, which meant staying here. I have snuck into Diagon alley and got the Daily Prophet but nothing was ever mentioned in the papers I got. I just want to know he's okay. He would be settled in with a family so I wouldn't want to disrupt his life, I just want to know he's okay.'

'I'll let you know what I find out.'

Andy had shown Ted, Amelia, William and Croaker the memory of her visit with Sirius. All of them said the same thing, Sirius had changed. His only concern was the well fair of his godson. They decided that if Sirius gave an unbreakable vow, he could be given the secret on Harry and eventually meet him. They would need to explain everything to Sirius so he would know to be careful around Harry who still didn't like to be near anyone apart from Andy, Ted, Dora, William, Amelia and Croaker. He had met Amelia's niece a few times and so far he was okay with her. Naturally Susan wasn't told who the blond haired blue eyed boy was, just that he was the son of Andy and Ted and his name was Orion. They used the name Orion so if anyone found out that there was a boy in the Tonks family, then it would be natural for him to have a name linking to the stars as that's what all of the Blacks were named after. But Amelia had brought Susan up to know that there were many things she might get told that she could never tell anyone else. Susan has never mentioned Orion, which is the only reason she was still allowed the occasional visit.

It was a couple of weeks later that Andy and Ted met Sirius, again in the muggle world, in a muggle cafe.

Sirius stared at his cousin after hearing what she wanted, even if she never said why.

'I always trusted you Andy so you wouldn't ask this of me unless you truly believe it was necessary. We're family, but real family who support each other. With how many ended up betraying all of us and how many good people died, it's good to be extra cautious. So okay, I'll give the vow.'

'I know this seems extreme but we'll explain soon and I believe you will be pleased.'

They left the cafe and went to the Leaky Cauldron. Ted had reserved a private dining room. They did not want anyone to know what they were talking about or about the vow. Andy and Sirius clasped hands while Ted spoke. The moment the vow was taken, they sat.

'Harry's safe and healthy. He wasn't, thanks to Albus Dumbledore. He came to us when he was nearly four. He had been badly abused so he was a very scared and timid boy. He was found when the people Dumbledore placed him with died in a house fire. Harry was believed to be two years old, he was three and a half. He was scared of everyone and couldn't speak. It took us two years to get Harry to believe we would never hurt him, in any way. It took another year to get him to speak and allow us to touch him. Amelia along with two others helped us legally adopt Harry. As I mentioned about Dora, Harry is also a metamorphmagus, so we use that to take him out so he isn't isolated. He will never interact with people like others, we're not even sure he will want to work or leave home when he's older. We already decided if he wants to remain with us even when he's an adult, we'll have a cottage built for him so he can have some space but still be close to us.'

'We worked on having his scar removed by muggle doctors. Between us, Dora, Andy, Amelia and two others, we began to teach Harry. He could be a potions master right now he is so gifted, but he still gets nervous around anyone but us. This is why you will need to be very careful when you meet him, Sirius. One wrong move could be devastating, not only for Harry but for you. We can explain that later.'

'But he's safe, he's okay?'

'Yes, he is.'

'Who did Dumbledore give him too? I only allowed Hagrid to take him because I thought Dumbledore would get a healer to check him out. He had cuts and bruises all over him and he was bleeding from his forehead.'

'From what we found out, he didn't have Harry seen by anyone. He left Harry, on the doorstep of the Dursley's. If you don't know who they are, well, it's Lily's muggle sister. They were the ones who abused him.'

'But Lily wrote in her will that Harry was never to have anything to do with them. When he was an adult, he could, if he wanted to but not before then. James wrote the same thing since he said he trusted Lily. They wrote out a list of people to take Harry if anything happened to them.'

'Yes, we know. Amelia was able to find out what was written in their wills. You and Alice were were named first but it said it was preferred if Alice took Harry as Lily and James believed she would make a wonderful mother for Harry. It was stipulated that you would have him every weekend until he went to Hogwarts, then it would be holidays. If Alice couldn't, then it was you before we were named, then Amelia. After her it was the Prewett boys. Albus did not contact any of them. Alice and Frank were still okay at the time. We found out that Albus did know what was stipulated in the wills, but he ignored them. We never found out why or his reasons for placing him with muggles,' Andy said.

'We did find out that Albus never took Harry to see a healer, not even Poppy Pomfrey. Albus then leaves him on a doorstep in the middle of the night. Harry was walking at the time, yet no charms of any type were left on him to keep him safe or keep him warm. It's like Albus did everything to make sure Harry died in some accident or by the muggles who would not like our kind,' Ted said.

Time skip:

It was not long after Harry turned sixteen that he decided to sit his test, for his newts. He only changed his mind because he wanted to get his master's in potions. Andy contacted William and Croaker, who could make sure no one found out Harry had done his newts. Being unspeakables, they could oversea Harry newts and they could also oversea his test for his masters in potions. From the time they found out how talented Harry was at potions along with his gift of being a metamorphmagus and a parselmouth, William and Croaker hoped that Harry may one day join their department. It would keep him safe and keep him from ever being recognised. If he had his masters, then he could use that in his job along with his gifts.

Andy, Ted, Dora and Sirius couldn't help showing how proud they were of Harry when they saw his newt scores and his certificate that showed he was now a potions master. The youngest potions master in all of the history of the wizarding world. Harry smiled shyly at his family.

'As we've told you sweetheart, you can just continue as you have been if you don't want to go out and work. James and Lily made sure you were financially secure. We will support any decision you make,' Andy said.

'And it has to be your decision,' Ted said.

'I've been doing a lot of thinking since I finished my tests. I want to help but I just don't want anyone to know who I am. When Croaker and William explained more about their department, they offered me a chance to be like them. I've decided to take them up on their offer.'

'Oh Harry, that's wonderful,' Andy hugged him before the others did.

They knew that no one but what would be considered family were the only ones who knew the real identities of an unspeakable. Harry would always be safe. They already knew he was, with his fire-starter gift along with his metamorphmagus gift. The robes unspeakables wore kept their identities a secret. Harry would use that but he could also change his appearance any time he wanted. The unspeakables also did not arrive at the ministry like everyone else. They had their own floo connection in the department of mysteries. Which meant Harry could use the floo from the house directly to his department. He would never be able to arrive in the atrium like everyone else. There were hundred's of people coming and going, it would be too overwhelming for Harry. Now he knew he would be able to do what he loved, along with helping the wizarding world but stay away from people and no one will ever be able to find out the truth.

It took three years of working as a junior unspeakable before Harry went on his very first date, with Susan Bones. She still did not know who Harry really was. Amelia spoke with Andy and Ted. They talked about Susan and Harry and if Susan should be told. They decided to wait and see how their dating went and if feelings developed before they spoke with Harry.

It was only after Harry and Susan had four dates that Harry spoke with Andy and Ted. He explained that he knew he was falling in love with Susan but he felt terrible that he was basically lying to her. A family meeting was called, but William and Croaker was also called to join in.

'Susan is an auror, she's the niece of the head of the DMLE. She knows about security and secrets. Once we explain how this must remain a secret and give her some basic information on Harry's life as a child, she will give an oath if she was asked,' Croaker said.

'We believe the same, but Harry wanted to hear from all of us before making a decision,' Ted said.

'I either tell her the truth or break it off. I can't keep lying to her, it's not right. Croaker is right though, Susan already knows that some things must remain secret.'

'I believe it will be safe to bring Susan in on the full truth and she won't need an oath. We've all see how she looks at Harry, her feelings are also growing,' Sirius said.

'Then it's time for me to go get Susan and bring her here,' Amelia said then gave Harry a smile, 'She could not have picked a better man.'

Harry blushed, 'Thank you Amelia,' he said shyly.

Everyone was going to stay for dinner, this way they could see how Susan was with Harry but she would also see just how protective the family was with Harry.

'Before we get to our discussion, Harry wants a private word with Susan,' Andy said giving her son an encouraging smile.

'Susan, would you join me in the conservatory?'

'Yes, of course,' Susan squeaked as she blushed.

The adults all watched Harry and Susan walk off towards the back of the house.

'He's going to tell her how he feels, isn't he?' Amelia asked.

'Yes, he thought he should before the truth is revealed. This will also let him and us know how Susan feels about Harry,' Ted said.

'I already know Susan is in love with Harry. I found a few doodles in on of her books. She wrote Mrs Orion Tonks, a lot. I believe she began to have feelings for him around the time she was fourteen or fifteen. She often asked if I had seen all of you but I know she was asking if I had seen Harry,' Amelia said with a smile.

'Harry would not have been ready for a girlfriend at that age. I believe once he had his newts then was offered that job, that is what gave him the confidence to finally date. We never asked him personal details, but do you know if Harry asked Susan or was it Susan that asked Harry?' Andy asked.

'It was Harry that asked Susan. After they worked it out and Susan had to return to work, she ran straight to my office to tell me. She was so excited that she just kept babbling.'

Susan wrapped her arms around Harry's neck and held him tight to her.

'No one will ever find out the truth, I will use my position to make sure of that.'

'You're not mad that I've basically been lying to you for years.'

'No, I'm not. You had a damn good reason to keep secrets.'

'I know but I felt guilty that I never told you the truth about who I am.'

'It was different back then. Okay, I was raised to know that things I might hear cannot be shared. It's just part of me now. But you didn't really know me or know if I was one of those girls that like to gossip. But tell me this Orion, or Harry, whatever you want to be known as. Were you only attracted to me because I'm the only girl you spent time with?'

'No, mum and dad took me out a lot, I was just disguised. From the time I was around thirteen, I...um, blimey.'

'You stared at girls,' Susan said with a smile.

'Yeah, but you're the only girl I actually wanted to get to know. You're the only girl I wanted...um,' Harry blushed brightly making Susan giggle.

'Snog?'

'Yes,' Harry said in a whisper.

'Then let's snog now everything is out in the open.'

Amelia and Andy quietly snuck towards the back of the house. They wanted to make sure Susan and Harry were okay.

Sirius and Ted looked up when they saw Amelia and Andy walk in and both were smiling.

'It went well I take it,' Ted said.

'Better than well,' Andy said.

'They were kissing.'

'Damn, my godson works fast,' Sirius said.

'Did he look comfortable?' Ted asked.

'Very, but we didn't stick around for more than a few seconds,' Andy said, 'and no mentioning this Sirius.'

'Don't worry, I won't. I know how sensitive he is.'

It was only four months later that Susan and Harry announced their engagement to their family. That night ended up as a small party.

Orion Tonks had a wonderful family, he now was planning on marrying the girl he loved. He had a great job and got to do what he loved doing. He may have everything he ever hoped to have and he was going to make sure no one tried to take that away from him.

Orion knew who he was, he knew who he used to be, yet only those he considered family knew the truth. Harry Potter was the past, Orion Tonks was who he was and always will be.

No one in the wizarding world will ever know what happened to the-boy-who-lived.
