Hi, everyone! I'm back with a brand new story and it doesn't revolve around the characters in the universe of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel. Instead, I'm shifting gears and focusing on a new fandom - Boy Meets World and Girl Meets World. This will be the first of a two part series I am working on. So something to know before jumping right in.
1.) I do not own Boy Meets World or Girl Meets World in which most, if not all, the characters will derive from. And some dialogue may also come from the original shows as well based on if I see fit to include it. For example, in this chapter, Shawn's speech.
2.) This story starts in the original Boy Meets World timeline and slowly will move into the Girl Meets World timeline.
3.) Background knowledge and a change of history. In the Boy Meets World episode "Prom-ises, Prom-ises" (season 5 episode 22), Alan and Amy discover they are going to have another baby. This leads to a hilarious sub-plot of Eric chasing his parents around the prom thinking that his father is cheating on his mother. As much as I love that whole interaction, for story purposes it will be nixed. Instead, that night Cory and Topanga go through with their initial plans of sleeping together.
4.) This story will pick up at high school graduation and skip around a bit with time jumps for the first few chapters.
5.) Enjoy!
Mr. Feeny wanted his students to write about what was in their hearts during their last week of school. And despite a missing paper from one Shawn Hunter, which caused a frown to form on his face, Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence had completed theirs. Though at times those three caused him to complain and grumble, he could not describe in words how much he truly cared about them. Feeny could not imagine a better class to retire with.
So there Feeny was mere hours away from retiring alongside the graduation class of 1998, reading his students papers.
Cory Matthews:
You wanted us to write how we felt during our last week and if I started this when Topanga finished hers, I would still need to rewrite mine. I thought I had my life all sorted out with Topanga. Now I'm not so sure. Topanga insisted on going to Pennbrook with me, but she should be at Yale. This is her dream school. She has worked too hard to throw that all away for me. I've been pushing Yale on her, that I think she's leaning towards going there. What will happen with her at Yale and me at Pennbrook? I should be happy for her. Right? I love her, but I'm not ready for her to leave me. Sometimes I wish we were back in middle school. Life was simpler then. Throwing socks into the laundry bin and wanting to be a baseball player on the Phillies. When did life get so hard?
Topanga Lawrence:
Being valedictorian has always been a goal of mine and with seven hundred A's I can officially say that I am at the top of my class beating out my academic adversary, Stuart Minkus. I should be happy. I am bound for Yale in the Fall, but what will happen to Cory and I. I love him more than anything, that's why I wanted to go to Pennbrook with him. But he keeps pushing me away, closer to Yale. He wants what is best for me. He doesn't want me to regret my choices. I've never regretted my choices, especially Cory. Not even the major decisions I've made. I have always got by because I had him by my side. I think I know what I am going to do. But first, I have to tell him that I am-
"George, it's time," a fellow teacher announced, opening Feeny's door slightly. Feeny did not have enough time to finish Topanga's essay, so he stacked the papers together and placed them in his briefcase by the door. He assured himself that he would finish reading them when he got home. Feeny stood from his desk and walked out the door, turning off his light for one final time.
During the ceremony, Feeny beamed with pride looking at his students. Cory, Shawn, Topanga, and Angela all seated next to one another. He knew they would leave John Adams High and emerge as competent adults into the world, even Shawn Hunter.
Topanga made her way to the stage for her speech. She had worked tirelessly on it all week, but she could not do it. Her mind was racing. She was unsure how Cory would react once her plans were revealed.
Besides someone else had something much more to say.
"My good friend, Shawn Hunter," Topanga ended her speech as she welcomed her friend to the stage.
Shawn beamed at Cory, then Topanga. They had arranged this switch yesterday, after Shawn had finished Mr. Feeny's assignment. An assignment, Feeny believed Shawn never even began. Feeny looked at his student curious as to what he had to say.
"I attended John Adams High School sporadically during the last four years, I barely have a C average, that's why I'm here," Shawn began.
It was in that moment, Topanga tried to find her opening. She touched Cory's arm to get his attention. Alas it failed.
"Shhh, Shawn's speaking in public. This will never happen again in our lives," Cory said, enamored by his best friend and the vulnerability he displayed.
"Mr. Feeny asked us to write about what we were feeling this week and, of course, I was feeling like I always do, I couldn't wait to get out of here. But now, high school is over. And just when I'm finally free, I find myself sneaking back into this place and sitting in the hall, thinking about my friends and all the time we spent here. And you, Mr. Feeny. I started thinking about you. And how you've always told us what to do without ever telling us what to do. You taught us about life. I was thinking about how much this place has been my home. And how many times I screwed up when I was here. How I could've done better. I could've done better. That's um… That's what I wrote. That's how I feel. I'm sorry. I could've done better. Congratulations to those who did," Shawn finished, earning a well-deserved round of applause from the audience.
Walking past Mr. Feeny back to his seat, Shawn shook his hand and said, "I'm sorry. I could've done better."
Feeny smiled at his student. He did not expect Shawn to actually go through with the essay and if he did, Feeny did not expect such fine work from the young man. "That was a fine paper. No one could've done it better," Mr. Feeny assured.
Shawn grinned.
And so the moment came that everyone had been anticipating, until Eric Matthews, Cory's already graduated older brother, sprang from a seat on the stage. He dedicated a song, performed by him, to Mr. Feeny's retirement, something Eric had a hard time coming to grips with.
After Eric finished his song, the ceremony continued as expected without a hitch. One by one their names were called by Mr. Feeny and each had their moment on stage becoming high school graduates.
"Shawn Hunter." Shawn leapt from his seat and gleefully grabbed his diploma from Mr. Feeny. There was a point in his life that he did not think he would make it this far, but with the help of the Matthews, Topanga, Mr. Feeny, and Mr. Turner, Shawn could officially say he was a high school graduate. Looking out into the crowd, his older brother Jack, smiled from ear to ear. If his mother or father couldn't be there, he was glad he had Jack.
"Topanga Lawrence." Topanga graciously accepted her diploma and smiled back to her family and eventually Cory. She had to tell him. The fact that he was completely in the dark left him in a state of unknowing, something she never wanted for him.
"Cory Matthews." There he was accepting his diploma, alongside his two best friends. And to top it off, his brother was standing right next to Feeny when he got it. Eric always had to cause a spectacle. Cory was at least glad his parents and Morgan came back after Eric's show to see him for his special moment.
And so the three of them sat, cheered, and congratulated their fellow students as they each walked across the stage. They even hugged Minkus.
When Feeny handed out the last diploma, he turned back to the audience to officially announce the graduating class of 1998. Everyone stood from their seats, except for Cory and Topanga. Topanga had stopped Cory before had the chance to.
"Cory," Topanga began.
"Yeah," Cory answered. He noticed something was off with his girlfriend. He figured this had to be about Yale or Pennbrook. As much as he wanted her to go to Yale, he wanted her to stay close, at Pennbrook with him. Cory figured she must've made a decision.
Topanga gazed into Cory's eyes with her big brown ones and blurted, "I'm pregnant."
