Chapter 1
Olympia
Colonel Jack O'Neill found himself half falling asleep at the briefing room table as Daniel went upon another long winded rampage about his recent discovery. He tuned most of what Daniel was talking about out as he waited for any relevant information about whatever it was that Daniel was excited about this time. He then heard his name.
"Jack!" Daniel huffed.
Jack prodded himself awake and looked up.
"Are you even listening to me?" he asked.
Jack admitted, "No."
Slowly Daniel exhaled in displeasure. He gathered his wits ready to storm out of the briefing.
General Hammond took control of the situation, "Could you pay attention, Colonel?"
Jack blurted, "I'm paying attention."
Daniel's eyes narrowed at him.
"Continue Dr. Jackson." Hammond instructed.
He took a breath and continued, "The planet is called Olympus. The City is called Olympia, I believe much of our Greek mythology is rooted from the civilization on Olympus. It's ruled by a monarch and they have a naquadah mine that is operational. And since we just lost our main source I thought it might be something we would want to look into." His eyes settled on Jack for he was still perturbed.
Jack sat up at attention, "They got a working mine." He glanced at Major Samantha Carter who was equally interested.
Sam smiled, "That's something we can use. Are they part of the Free Jaffa?" She asked glancing at Teal'c.
"They are not." he informed.
Daniel stated, "They are human inhabitants. Not Jaffa."
Jack figured, "So we go and check this place out and see if they want to set up some kind of trade."
"That's what I was thinking." Daniel agreed.
Jack asked, "Well, why didn't you just say so instead of all that about ancient Greece."
"I was trying to give you some context." he explained.
Jack rolled his eyes.
Hammond stated, "You're next dial out will be to Olympus, SG-1."
Olympus
The capital city, Olympia was located near the planet's equator and just outside the mining operation that kept the citizens employed. The city was large and sported brick roads and building made of iron and stone. It was an elegant city with a population of twenty-five thousand residence.
On a hill just above the glimmering city sat the castle that housed the Queen and her trusted and loyal companion. Unlike the Goa'uld the Queen of Olympia was kind and cared about the lives the people she was entrusted to lead. She had to be wary of any attempt of the Goa'uld to infiltrate her kingdom and gain control of the mining operation. Queen Abigail was far from stunningly attractive as she sported light brown hair, brown eyes and sun tanned skin. She was short at only five foot two inches and rather petit in size and weight.
The Queen's companion and bodyguard was the opposite in physical stature. She was tall and had dark cocoa skin and amazing bright blue eyes that shined. She was athletic and very attractive with a well toned and lean body. Monique was not only the companion to the Queen but her trusted adviser and bodyguard as well.
At breakfast the Queen was seated at the large wooden table that could host all her generals and admirals as she had a formable military to keep any Goa'uld threat at bay. The dining room was elegant with gold accents and marble floors and doubled as the Queen's briefing room with her military.
Monique was neither a general nor an admiral. She lacked any title and was simply listed as a companion to the Queen. She entered the room leading the castle chef, a tubby older man with gray hair, who brought breakfast for the Queen.
Queen Abigail glanced up. Not only was Monique her trusted and loyal companion but also her dearest friend and confidant. She noticed Monique sported a long white flowing gown that morning. She glanced down at herself as she wore a plain tan tunic and trousers. She soured a bit jealous for no matter what Monique wore the woman looked radiant.
Monique came to the table with the chef behind her. She greeted her friend, "My Queen…" she began to announce what they were going to eat when Abigail interrupted.
"Moe," she gave a look. "You know I don't like titles."
Monique smiled in jest, "I'm aware of that your highness." She then stepped sideways and placed the bowl of mush before the Queen. "Your food is served."
Abigail looked at the mush and asked, "What is this?"
"The Free Jaffa traded it with a few scouts. It's called 'oat meal' and it is from the a new trading planet…Earth." she explained. "I hear is taste well."
Abigail was suspicious for she knew Monique liked to play tricks on her. She picked up the spoon and scooped just a bit on the end. She tasted the new cereal and promptly spat it out. "That's is hideous."
"Indeed," Monique agreed and then pushed the bowl out of the way and placed a plate of local foods before her. She found bread, eggs and cheese.
"That's better," she gave a nod of approval.
Monique sat down on the chair beside the queen and dismissed the chubby chef who promptly left. She took the bowl of oat meal and began to eat it.
Abigail gave a cockeyed look, "You are going to eat that…stock food." She referred to live stock.
"I don't mind it." she replied. She then added, "About those from Earth…SG-1."
"Sss, Gee…One?" she asked unsure.
"Yes, I have been following their encounters. They have made an ally with the Free Jaffa and made some enemies with many System Lords..." she started.
Abigail interrupted, "Just because they are an enemy of our enemy doesn't mean they are our friends."
"Of course! I suggest we investigate them further. Sources have informed me that will be interested in making trade deals. They are interested in the mine. I suggest when they come here and I was told they likely will and soon, that we get to know them further."
Abigail agreed, "That sounds good."
Monique then added one more request, "I am concerned for your safety, Abby. They will want to meet directly with you and perhaps invite you to their world for negotiations. We must take measures to ensure your safety and allow us to vet them at the same time."
Abigail suggested, "We can switch. You be me and I can be you. We did that before a few times and it worked out."
Monique smiled, "That was my suggestion as well." She then added, "If an attempt is made it shall be made on my life."
"I will have your back," she assured with a firm nod worried for her friend.
"And I shall have yours." she agreed.
Later that Day
SG-1 walked through the event horizon and found themselves in the midst of a beautiful city and a castle on the mountainous hill above. The sky was clear blue and the land filled with brush and trees. Off in the distance was the entrance to the mine that was abundant with workers. They noticed some machinery moving in the distance as the mining operation continued.
Jack stated, "Not as stone age as I thought it would be." He then glanced at Sam, "And trees…" he kidded her.
She gave a small smile at the joke.
Daniel stated, "Obviously Olympia has some technological advances. They have managed to keep the Goa'uld at bay for some time, Jack."
Teal'c agreed, "Indeed! They do have ships."
"Ships, huh." Jack pondered the information. They started to walk towards the city. He noticed, "And roads…"
"Brick roads." Daniel added.
Jack smirked, "Follow the yellow brick road."
Sam stated as she walked, "I would like to see the ships, sir."
"Me too, Carter." he agreed.
Daniel warned, "Let's meet the Queen and see if we can get a trade agreement before we go snooping around too much, Jack."
"But I like snooping." he rebutted.
They soon came to a park and spied children running and playing. It was a good sign for Jack for had children been working in the mine he would have second thoughts about any trade agreement.
"Weird." Daniel remarked.
Jack gave a cockeyed look, "What's weird? Kids playing."
He shook his head, "No…the architecture. In the city they have Greek style pillars but there is this castle on the hill. It's like this weird combination of ancient Greek and Old Style English."
"I suppose it's kind of weird." Jack agreed.
"You there!" a voice shouted out.
SG-1 turned slightly. They soon discovered a large burly man with black hair and brown eyes sitting on a white horse. He wore a blue tunic and trousers. Across his waist was a high placed belt and a holster with what appeared to be the handle of some kind of weapon exposed. The handle was silver and looked metallic to Jack. He then noticed a golden rope across the man's shoulder indicating he some kind of official.
Jack pointed to himself, "Us?"
The large man came to a halt before him. He asked, "Who are you and what is your business in Olympia?"
"Who would like to know?" he asked him with a smirk.
"I am Nolan, the city's constable." he introduced himself. "And you?"
"I'm Jack, this is Daniel, T and Carter." he replied sarcastically as he understood it was the local law enforcement officer who was questioning them.
Daniel gave Jack a look, "He's the city's sheriff, Jack."
Nolan spied the odd patch. "Tell me, what does your markings say."
"This," Jack pointed to his patch.
Nolan gave a nod.
"It says SG-1." he told him.
He gasped, "The Queen is expecting you."
Jack asked surprised, "She is?" He wondered how she knew they would be coming. He glanced at Teal'c for he wondered if the Jaffa tipped the Queen off. Teal'c seemed just as surprised as Jack.
"This way." the Constable stated and pulled the reigns on the horse to lead the team towards the castle.
