Route 16 and the Super Rod
After leaving the hotel, the group found themselves looking at a sign that read 'Route 16'.
"Route 16? Weren't we on Route 15?" asked Kevin.
"Well, we did go out an entrance from the hotel that wasn't the one we went through to go in it." said Nazz.
"Well, it doesn't matter what route we're on; I'm still training my Pokemon." said Kevin.
"Yeah; I want to be famous like the Eds." said Jonny.
"Before we start, I want to use one of my Full Heals on Dedenne to cure her of her burn after that battle with Litwick." said Nazz. She opens her backpack to grab a Full Heal when something in the backpack caught her eye; the Fly HM Professor Sycamore gave them. "Hey, guys; didn't Professor Sycamore say that once we earned Plant Badges, our Pokemon can use Fly outside of battle?"
"Yes; Rolf does recall Professor Sycamore say that." said Rolf.
"I forgot we had that HM." said Kevin. Nazz takes the Fly HM out of her backpack; she uses it on her Farfetch'd, Kevin then uses it on his Talonflame, Rolf uses it on his Pidgeot, and Jonny uses it on Charizard.
"Now we can get to places quicker." said Nazz.
"Bummer that we can only travel to places we've already been to, otherwise we can get to Anistar City quicker." said Kevin.
"On the plus side, if we take the long way, we can meet more Pokemon." said Nazz.
"True." said Kevin. As Jonny was putting the Fly HM in his backpack, Kevin hears some rustling coming from the grass. He looks and sees a purple, scorpionlike Pokemon that had a pincer at the end of its tail and stingers on the end of its arms. Kevin takes out the pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Skorupi, the Scorpion Pokemon. It burrows under the sand to lie in wait for prey. Its tail claws can inject its prey with a savage poison." said the pokedex.
"Okay, I'm catching this one." said Kevin as he pulls out a pokeball and throws it, releasing his Tyrunt.
"Get it, Kevin!" said Nazz.
"Okay, Tyrunt; use Ancient Power!" said Kevin. Tyrunt summons up rocks that had fossils in them, and launches them at the Skorupi, hitting it, and doing super effective damage. A surge of energy rises up from him.
"Ancient Power gave Tyrunt a power boost!" said Jonny. The Skorupi responds by biting down on Tyrunt with poison-coated mandibles.
"Now use Bite!" said Kevin. Tyrunt bites down on Skorupi, making it flinch. Kevin then takes out an empty pokeball and throws it at the Skorupi, hitting it, and sucking it in. The pokeball wiggles a few times before clicking.
"Way to go, Kevin!" said Nazz. Kevin looks up his new Skorupi's information.
"This says my Skorupi's a dudette, she knows Bite, Poison Sting, Leer, Knock Off, Pin Missile, Acupressure, Pursuit, Bug Bite, Poison Fang, Venoshock, Hone Claws, and Toxic Spikes; plus, she has the Battle Armor ability which makes it so she can't take critical damage from an opponent's attacks." said Kevin.
Kevin also takes the time to train his Pokemon also. His Greninja learned Substitute, his Talonflame, Golett, and Venusaur got stronger; his Vivillon learned Safeguard, and his Tyrunt learned Thrash.
Also, during Tyrunt's training, he froze up and started to glow.
"Check it out! Tyrunt's evolving!" said Kevin. Everyone watches as Tyrunt started to evolve. When he finished, he was a LOT bigger, his skin was rust red, on his forehead was a light orange crest, and he had orange spiky protrusions on his upper legs and going down his tail.
"Whoa!" said Jonny. Kevin takes out the pokedex and points it at his newly evolved Tyrunt.
"Tyrantrum, the Despot Pokemon, and the evolved form of Tyrunt. Nothing could stop this Pokémon 100 million years ago, so it behaved like a king." said the pokedex.
"This is awesome." said Kevin with awe in his voice.
Jonny's Chesnaught learned Mud Shot, his Linoone learned Bestow, his Charizard learned Slash, and his Krokorok learned Sandstorm. During the training, his Krokorok began to glow.
"Check it out! Krokorok's evolving!" said Jonny. Everyone watched as Krokorok began to change; when she stopped glowing, she was bigger, maroon colored with a white underbelly and black stripes, triangluar spikes going down her back, her snout was longer, and her tail long, thick, and had black stripes. Kevin points the pokedex at the newly evolved Krokorok.
"Krookodile, the Intimidation Pokemon, and the final form of Sandile. They never allow prey to escape. Their jaws are so powerful, they can crush the body of an automobile." said the pokedex.
"Congratulations, Jonny." said Nazz.
"Thanks, Nazz." replied Jonny.
Rolf's Delphox, Pidgeot, Gogoat, and Blastoise got stronger, his Diggersby learned Bounce, and his Beedrill learned Endeavor.
Nazz's Florges and Farfetch'd got stronger, her Pyroar learned Crunch, her Gardevoir learned Psychic, her Skitty learned Heal Bell, and her Dedenne learned Entrainment. Nazz was suddenly appraoched by a teenage boy in fishing attire while carrying a fishing pole over his shoulder.
"Hey; you a Pokemon trainer?" the boy asked Nazz.
"Yeah; you want to battle me?" replied Nazz.
"Sure; I'll go easy on you." said the boy.
"Don't go easy on me, dude." said Nazz.
"All right." replied the boy, shrugging. Soon, Nazz and the boy were standing several feet from each other while Jonny, Kevin, and Rolf watched. Nazz pulls out a pokeball while the boy pulled out a Lure Ball. "Go, Basculin!" The boy threw the Lure Ball and released a green, fishlike Pokemon that had a thick, black stripe going down its back and a thin red line going down by each side of it.
"What's that?" asked Kevin as he points the pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Basculin, the Hostile Pokemon. Red and blue Basculin usually do not get along, but sometimes members of one school mingle with the other's school." said the pokedex.
"Dedenne, go!" said Nazz, throwing Dedenne's pokeball and releasing her.
"Basculin, Aqua Jet!" said Basculin's trainer. Basculin becomes surrounded by water and it flies at Dedenne, ramming into her, and knocking her to the ground.
"That Aqua Jet looked strong!" said Kevin.
"My Basculin has the Adaptability ability, which increases the power of the moves that are the same type as the Pokemon that uses them." replied Basculin's trainer. "Since Basculin's a water type, his water type moves are stronger."
"Dedenne, Charge Beam!" said Nazz. Dedenne holds out her paws and fires a beam of electricity out of them and it hits Basculin, dealing super effective damage. Dedenne begins surging with electricity and her special attack strength increases.
"Basculin, Aqua Tail!" said Basculin's trainer. Water begins spiraling around Basculin's tail and it hits Dedenne with it, knocking her to the ground. Dedenne struggles to get up.
"Dedenne, Parabolic Chage!" said Nazz. Dedenne forms a large ball of electricity above her and electricity shoot out from it, hitting Basculin, dealing enough damage to knock it out. "Great job, Dedenne." Dedenne nods weakly in response.
"That was close." said Kevin.
"Yes; that Basculin was indeed strong." said Rolf. Basculin's trainer returns Basculin to his Lure Ball. He walks over to Nazz and gives her pokedollars.
"Good battle." said Basculin's trainer.
"Thanks; your Basculin was tough." said Nazz. Basculin's trainer walks away.
"That Basculin was indeed strong." the group hears someone calling out to them; they look to see a man, also in fishing attire standing in front of an old shack.
"It was; it almost beat Dedenne." said Nazz.
"Basculin's a water Pokemon you don't want to cross paths with." said the man. "You have some water Pokemon yourself?" Nazz reaches into her backpack and pulls out the Old Rod.
"I caught a Luvdisc once; it was the only thing I could catch with this thing." said Nazz, holding up the Old Rod.
"You'll never catch anything stronger with that." said the man. "Wait there a moment." He walks into the shack; seconds later, he walks out with a fishing pole in his hand. "This here's a Super Rod; it can catch water Pokemon way better than that old thing." He gives it to Nazz.
"You sure you want to give it to me?" asked Nazz.
"Sure; got a lot of them cluttering up the shack." said the man. Nazz smiles and takes the Super Rod.
"I'll try it out later; but for now, I'm getting hungry; plus, I want to get Dedenne treated, as well as my other Pokemon." said Nazz.
"Rolf also wishes to get his Pokemon treated." said Rolf.
"Me, too." said Jonny.
"Then let's get to Dendemille Town before it gets dark." said Kevin. Nazz returns Dedenne to her pokeball and the group begin travelling up north towards their next destination: Dendemille Town.
