This is a follow-up to the episode 'City on the Edge of Forever.' I'd imagine there was much confusion on McCoy's part as to what just happened, and repressed anger on Kirk's part. Here's my take on what occurred after they beamed up to the ship. Rated T for McCoy's mouth.

After Spock is promoted to Captain and Jim has to come to grips with losing the Enterprise again, a chance discovery leads them to reevaluate their relationship. Set between The Motion Picture and The Wrath of Khan.

When a training mission for an academy just outside the Federation's reach ends in destruction and desperate distress calls the crew of the "Discovery" is surprised to find that the Enterprise has answered their call and comes to their rescue. Can the survivors move past the tragedy they've found with the help of the crew of the Enterprise? What relationships will form, or crumble?
