Hello readers, this is something that I decided to try a Saphira x OC story. I don't have a good record of writing Inheritance Cycle Series fanfictions, So I thought that I would give it another try with this story. The setting in this fanfiction is in the first book of the Inheritance Cycle series 'Eragon'. It's between Garrow's death and Eragon's visit to the storyteller's house in search of a name for his dragon. I will make it as close to the books as possible but with better wording and added dialogue. Before I continue the oc dragon that I will use is my oc dragon Volkossah who I will describe and what kind of dragon he is shortly. On that note the foul language will be caused by Volkossah mainly. So without further ado enjoy the fanfiction.
Disclaimer: I don't own the Inheritance Cycle Series. The Inheritance Cycle Series is owned by Christopher Paolini. All the rights and copyrights such as the character's name, places and events belong to him. I own nothing, but my own ocs.
Chapter 1:
Meeting Eragon, Loss Of Family
I never thought that I would be here of all places. I'm in a very small clearing in a forest called The Spine, I was very lost at this time of day in the evening hours. Just searching for food but got lost in the process, wondering what the fuck am I going to do now? An answer that I don't have for my question. I guess you are wondering who I am.
Well... I'm Volkossah, a male parasitic dragon that is a forbidden race of dragons with parasitic darkness. I'm a very muscular black plated scaled dragon with seven yellow beast-like eyes, one on top of my head and three on each side of my head. My horns are light blue, shaped like a crescent moon with four side horns. My bottom jaw is split down the middle while my tongues are split into three separation tongues with serrent ends.
My red & purple underbelly is split open down the middle like a mouth, it continue down my hind legs before stopping at my pelvis. My ribs stick out like multiple bone-like teeth that are very sharp, while a thick hard protective layer of flashy scales covers my organs. My neck is the same as my ribs but without the protective layer, but with many tentacles which can reacted while my esophagus is fully showing my neck organ.
My light blue wings are split into two other wings from one joint each altogether making four wings in total. All four of my wings have one side that is torn, showing the wing membrane bone and the other side is perfectly fine. My tail is split into five long like-whips with serrated blades at the tips. I've five hydra-like heads on my back that can tear apart tough scales. They most seeks there targets but I can reacted them cause I can control them with ease.
At age one and a half I started to develop my parasitic powers and I don't mean a small single fireball here or there that could damage someone's arm, then could be healed back up. Oh no, I mean utter destruction and what I mean is limbs flying off, mutating your own limbs into weapons, mind control or bending other's will. My first time using that kind of power, I caused 1½ of my home to be destroyed. Though there is always a negative side to that kind of power. That negative side can cause me to be uncontrolled and very dangerous to be around with others.
My species is unknown to Alagaesia due to living in an underground city called Parlyilies Dracoiyz, which means Parasitic Dragons in the dark language. Even though the ancient language is used in Alagaesia today, the dark language is extremely ancient and was used before Alagaesia was formed. I was born two years ago and have been alone since then. You see my egg was laid in this underground city away from Galbatorix's eyes and ears. If he had found my egg, he would had tried to control me, something I don't want at all.
I'm the last parasitic egg laid of my species in an attempt to repopulate my race. The reason why the parasitic race died out except for me, is because the other adult parasitic dragons had starved themselves before I hatched from my egg. Because food was very scarce here, the only food that I found was the bodies of my kind. Going above ground would be very risky but there was food there, but every time I went above ground. I would run the risk of the mad king discovering me and using me for breeding purposes only. My race can mate with other dragons, which is good cause I am the last of the parasitic race.
In my early life I had to eat my own kind, I know was cannibalism but it was either that and survive or starve to death. The parasitic race can constrict their food in their stomachs, let's say I eat a deer. It will last a couple of weeks within me, but the bigger the prey the more it will last.
Before I could think about my past, I was snapped out of my thoughts as I heard a scream of terror above me. I looked up as I stared at the sky, trying to pinpoint the source of it, then I hear the roar of a dragon. I saw something falling to the ground as it impacted hard on the ground not only a few feet from me, causing me to jump back in a battle stance.
I dropped my stance as I saw a Alagaesia sapphire dragon in front of me and a boy with brown hair and matching eyes, who had fallen on the ground in pain. He was about average height and he was wearing human clothes, something that I don't understand or ever will. His legs were skinned up from something. I saw him rubbing his legs as his dragon was staring straight at me. Leaving her very curious about me as she staring at me with wide open eyes, drooling at the sight at me. I titled my head curiously.
'Well shit this is not what I've expected? But oh well.' I thought privately as I growled in confusion while the boy was trying to stand up. Before he could, he yelped and grabbed his legs in pain, while falling down on his ass. His dragon on the other hand was surprised to find another one of its kind as this was happening. I examined this dragon from top to bottom while it was staring back at me.
The dragon was female, it had blue sapphire scales with matching eyes. A very curvy and agile dragon with back spines all the way from her head to the tip of her tail. I saw two serrented fangs that were prodded out of her upper jaw, with possibly four curved small spines and slightly curved horns between her main horns. The dragon's head was roughly triangular with main horns that were slightly curved upward a bit, while four possible cheek spines.
I can sense hope, shock, confusion, suspicion and most of all... curiosity in her sapphire eyes as I noticed a large amount of drool from the dragon. She is thought to be the last dragon of Alagaesia like I'm the last parasitic dragon. I guess getting lost has its perks, we both may be the last dragons of our kind Alagaesia and Parasitic, but one thing I can say is that. And that is this female is very gorgeous to look at as I saw her trying to lick her lips from drooling, surprisingly it worked.
I saw a few about the tales of Alagaesia dragons on stone, roaming the world over my two years of living in my home. The Alagaesia dragons were in an order of dragon riders until Galbatorix so bluntly killed every dragon and rider he could find. He is a power hungry bastard that needs to be put out of his misery. He can take his ego and pride, shove it up his own ass until he bleeds from internal injury. That is what I think about him and his so-called army.
I watched her rider and the dragon look at each other, probably having conversation using telepathy. For a few minutes this went on as the boy gestured towards me for some reason, before sitting up in pain. The sapphire dragon puffed smoke as she carefully took a step toward me, then took two more before shooting a clearly annoyed glance at her rider. I guess she was seeing how I would react toward her. She touched my protected chest to see if I was real while testing me either as a physical threat or a friendly dragon. I kept my eyes locked on her as she began to move around me while she began to sniff me everywhere. Just about every part of my body even between my hind legs while I kept her in my sights.
I looked at the boy and saw him raise an eyebrow at his dragon behavior. Dragons do this to look for a mate or to examine the other dragon more closely, I kept allowing this dragon to examine me. Not wanting to act threatening towards her, keeping my body language from becoming too aggressive.
The sapphire dragon pulled back from examining me, and walked back in front of me. We both stared at each other as I felt something probing my mind. It was a gentle touch, I knew she was not going to harm me. So I let go of my defence barrier and allowed her mind to join mine, that was when I heard a beautiful voice.
"Who are you? I thought I was the last dragon here." The sapphire dragon growled as she asked me, while I tried to prevent my bloodlust from controlling me. Luckily it was easy for me to control since I was not in my rage state, while the boy wanted something, but we both ignored him.
"I'm Volkossah a parasitic dragon." I simply let out a dragon-like grin stating my name and what kind of dragon I am. I saw the boy slowly trying to walk on his skinned up legs, but failed miserably.
"Vol-koss-ah, a parasitic dragon?" I heard her slowly pronounce my name and my race in a question. The sapphire dragon relaxed her body, which was good, because she will not attack me.
"Yes a parasitic dragon, Who are you? You've not heard of my species before?" I growled in curiosity as I thought about the tales of the dragon race above ground. I saw the tales of Alagaesia dragons in stone plates in my underground home. Of how the dragons and elves started a war between themselves, while the dragons were battling for freedom, an elf unexpectedly bonded with a dragon hatching. It created the dragon rider order until one mad power hungry rider entered the picture: hint the name: egg and oath breaker.
"My name is Saphira, my hatchling of a rider is Eragon, who named me after going to the storyteller just a day ago. To answer your second question, no I've not heard of your dragon species before but I have many questions about you." Saphira grew curious in a calm tone of voice as I could tell that Saphira had a lot of questions about me.
"As much as I would love to stand here and answer your questions Saphira, it seems that your rider wants something from you." I stated as Saphira turned around to see her rider. I was curious about what he wanted.
"Saphira, I need to hurry back to the farm, my uncle Garrow is in danger." I heard Eragon's voice in my head as I noticed his determined tone to rescue him.
"Eragon, if you do that, they will kill you. I'll not put your life in danger, little one." I heard Saphira snarl, as she argued with Eragon, who started to pout like a young hatching.
"But Garrow is in danger, I've to save him with sword skills or none at all." Eragon yelled out at Saphira as she growled in anger. While I saw them argue over something that is pointless.
"You idiot hatchling, if you go there you will die Eragon. I'm protecting you for your own good." Saphira roared at her rider, trying to get through Eragon's thick skull that this was a bad idea. One thing that you should never do is argue with a dragon or anger one. If you do that then you will likely face that dragon's fury.
"What about you Volkossah, will you take me to the farm?" I was flabbergasted at Eragon as he simply asked the same question he asked Saphira. I looked down at the boy as I knew Eragon would be disappointed with my answer, but I didn't care one bit what he thought.
"Saphira is right, Eragon, you need to stay here with us. So that me and Saphira can protect you. You will likely get yourself killed before you can start your journey." I answered wisely as I saw Eragon looked hurt from my answer. Saphira on the other hand was satisfied with my answer.
"What! So you'll not help me save Garrow. I can't believe you, you are worse than the king." Eragon replied as tears ran down his cheeks, I noticed he was angry at me. I was not happy with what he said, while Saphira was shocked at her rider's words.
"Eragon, how fucking dare you? I'm not like the king just because I am not willing to help you out. Never ever say that to me Eragon." I roared in fury at Eragon's clams, but I was not finished yet.
"You are injured, you need to stay here for the night. Tomorrow I will go to the farm with you two. So sit the fuck down and shut up or I will shut your fucking mouth for you, boy." I roared in anger as I was so pissed off that my parasitic darkness almost caused the ground to be infected. I lost control of my anger for a bit. This causes my parasitic darkness to almost infect Saphira, luckily I was able to stop the spread before it infected Saphira. If I lose control over my parasitic darkness then I would enter a bloodlust frenzy. Meaning that I would kill anything in sight, dragons or no dragons.
This caused Saphira to lose her balance a bit due to my power almost infecting her, like she was in a drunken state before the sapphire dragon regained her balance back. I heard Eragon sigh in defeat who was unaware what happened to his dragon. Knowing that nothing can be done to save Garrow from his fate.
"Fine! But you better hope that Garrow is still alive." I did not know if that was a threat or a warning from Eragon. As I saw Saphira sweep leaves out of the way to make a comfortable spot for her rider. I saw Eragon lay down in that spot as Saphira lay down next to him, then she covered Eragon with her wing. In a few minutes Eragon was asleep while I turned around to stand on guard.
"Volkossah, are you going to sleep?" I hear Saphira growl in worry as I turn my head back to her. I was curious at her question as I puffed in anger at her rider.
"Not yet, is there anything that you want Saphira?" I asked as I turned back around, I saw Saphira's tail wrapped around Eragon. Saphira seems calm to me as I sit on my hind legs.
"I want to apologize for Eragon's behavior just now." Saphira answered while looking at me in curiosity as she tilted her head.
"No worries Saphira. Eragon was just angry at me and I forgave him." I stated, telling Saphira that I forgive her rider's outburst, because he wants to protect his family. I would be angry too if my family was in danger.
"Thank you Volkossah for forgiving him, he is a good person to be with. Besides that I have so many questions about you, if you're willing to answer them." Saphira growled with curiosity as I nodded my head in acknowledgement. I know that Saphira wants to learn about my species so I gladly answer her questions.
"You're welcome, Saphira and ask any questions that you have." I hummed as I was in a good mood while showing a dragon fang-like grin to Saphira. Meanwhile Saphira was thinking about her first question, but I was shocked to hear her first question.
"What weakened me?" I was so surprised that Saphira asked that first, so much that I nearly toppled over. Luckily I regained my balance, before I could embarrass myself in front of a female dragon. After the near embarrassment, I gathered my thoughts as I landed on all fours instead of balancing on my hind legs.
"Uh… Saphira, that was parasitic darkness. It's a parasitic like-energy that I can use to infect an area or dragon. I can even control dragons using parasitic darkness, but I only use it if it's necessary. That is why you felt weak." I stated as I was nervous about Saphira attacking me. I can tell that Saphira was thinking about this, until I got a surprising response.
"Interesting, so that almost causes me to feel weak and almost helpless." I was surprised that Saphira hit it right on the head. As my parasitic powers can do that, while I notice Saphira was very calm about this.
If humans heard this, they would probably outright try to kill me for revealing my power to them and think that I'm an evil vibe creature that needs to be put down. Surprisingly Saphira didn't try to kill me or piss me off. I was glad that neither of these things didn't happen today.
"Yes, Saphira but I was able to control it." I yawn as Saphira notices my tiredness. I looked up at the sky and I saw the sun setting, as we both heard Eragon's slight snoring.
"You must be tired Volkossah, Let's get some rest shall we." Saphira yawned, while laying her head down. I lay down in front of her as I curl my tails and tuck in my legs, Saphira did the same as me with her legs.
"Yeah good idea Saphira, goodnight Saphira." I agreed with Saphira on that, we needed rest for the journey ahead. I closed my multiple eyes as I began to fall asleep.
"Goodnight Volkossah." I heard Saphira replied fadely as she did the same as me while we both started to drift to dreamland.
My sleep was peaceful as there was no distraction in the area, I was glad to find another dragon here. It was early in the morning, I was asleep with Saphira and her rider until I was woken up by someone pounding on Saphira's left wing. I was very groggy at the nose, I moaned as I wanted more sleep.
'Oh you've to be fucking kidding me, seriously! Can I just get some damn sleep for once?' I thought as I lazaly opened my eyes then turned my head to Saphira. I saw her curled up around Eragon, who was pounded her wing to get out.
"Hey, wake up!" I hear Eragon muffled voice through Saphira's sleeping form. I grinned as Eragon got no answer from his dragon, I stayed quiet as Eragon tried again.
"Saphira, get up." I heard Eragon yell out as Saphira stirred a bit, before I could get Saphira up. Saphira woke up as she lifted her head, while uncovering Eragon to let him out. Saphira then turned her head towards me as Eragon was trying to stand up.
"Good morning Volkossah." Saphira yawned as she showed her teeth. While Saphira uncurled her legs as Eragon rubbed his skinned up legs.
"Morning Saphira, ready to go to the farm." I yawned as I uncurled my tails and legs. I stood up and began to stretch my legs. While Saphira stood up as she lowered her head to Eragon's level.
"Yes I am, ready to go Eragon?" Saphira asked, while I heard Saphira humming as she nuzzled her rider. I guess she is in a good mood today, despite whatever happened yesterday between Eragon and her.
"Yes, let's hurry to the farm, Saphira." As I heard Eragon's desperation tone in my head as I was ready to go. Saphira then crouch down for Eragon as the new rider carefully mounted Saphira's back, I on the other hand was flapping my wings to get the knots and kinks out of them.
"Ladies first." I growled in a gente tone as this caused Saphira growl in embarrassment while she rose back up with Eragon on her.
"Th-thank you Volkossah." Saphira stuttered as she opened her wings and began to flap them, and within a few seconds Saphira was airborne. She was headed to the farm. I followed her explanation as I opened my four wings then flew after her.
After I was airborne, I followed Saphira towards Garrow's farm that was near Carvahall. A village that was close to The Spine to the north. As we were flying towards our destination I flew beside Saphira. We passed Palancar Valley as the village of Carvahall was up ahead and the sapphire dragon started a conversation.
"Volkossah, why did you come to The Spine anyway?" Saphira asked as she growled curiously while keeping her eyes forward. I know Saphira was curious but not like this.
"Well Saphira I came to The Spine to find some food, but got lost in the process." I growled in embarrassment as I answered Saphira's question, while I hung my head in shame. Hoping that Saphira doesn't laugh at my embarrassment for getting lost in a forest.
"There's no need to be embarrassed, Volkossah. I've gotten lost in The Spine sometimes too as a hatchling." I was surprised that Saphira didn't laugh at me, instead she hummed in confrontation as the sapphira dragon flew faster. Causing me to increase my pace to keep up with the sapphire dragon as I decide to tease Saphira.
"Oh really! Is the all-mighty Saphira afraid of getting lost in a forest? Ahh poor poor little Saphira." I teased Saphira as I growled playfully. Unfortunately this caused Saphira to snort as she puff smoke in annoyance.
"Little Saphira! Really Volkossah, just wait until we have a race. I'll show you who's little, hatching." Saphira growled playfully as she slapped me with her tail in a playful manner. I snorted at Saphira's proposed for a race, it may be my dragon pride talking now but I will not lose to a fucking dragoness, especially not by a female. Before I could say anything back to Saphira, we saw the farm.
It was a fucking mess, burned down to the ground. The wooden beams and the panels all over the property were either snapped in half or burned like coal. I caught a whiff of soot and ash which was scattered in most places. But I also smelled a large amount of blood, burned flash and poison? I know Garrow couldn't have survived this, so I keep quiet as I want Eragon to find out for himself. Eragon gasps in shock at the state it's in.
Eragon was in fear of finding his uncle dead as me and Saphira quickly dived, folding our wings as the wind rushed past us until we pulled up at the last minute and impacted the ground hard. After Saphira landed, she ran to a stop. I impacted the ground beside Saphira as Eragon half dismounting and half stumbling off of Saphira in grief, running to the wrecked farmhouse before falling to his knees in sorrow. I know he was terrified at his lost home as he looked over the farm.
"Sorrow breeds here." Saphira replied in sadness as I saw Eragon clench his fistes in anger. He stood back up and turned back to us with anger in his eyes that was directed towards us.
"This wouldn't have happened. If you hadn't run away with me!" Eragon yelled at Saphira trying to blame her for a burned down farm. I was confused as to what Eragon is saying, but to blame Saphira for something that not her fault. It completely stupid for try to blame your own dragon.
"You wouldn't be alive if we had stayed here!" Saphira stated, understanding Eragon's anger from his loss, as Eragon looked at us in anger.
"Look at this! We could have warned Garrow! It's your fault Saphira that he didn't get away and don't think I haven't forgotten about you Volkossah. I told you to take me to the farm and you deny it! You share the same blame as Saphira does!" Eragon screamed at us in rage as he put the blame of Garrow's death on us. I snort at Eragon's claims, blaming us for something that's not our fault.
Eragon thought that he was right, but in truth he was dead wrong. It was not our fault that Garrow is likely dead, it was someone else's fault. Who is the culprit and why did they do this to Eragon? That is something for us to find out later.
Eragon turns back towards the farm with his head down in grief, he was about to walk towards Carvahall. Until he hears a slight grunt of pain as Eragon looks up to see the wood pile slightly moving on its own. Why would a pile of wood move by itself unless? The answer is in the pile of wood.
Eragon gasps in shock as he rushes inside the ruined farm. As soon as he reached it, I saw him as he began to remove pieces of wood, until he saw a hand poking out. This caused me to smell the scent of burned flash that was in a large pile of wood. Because Parasitic dragon senses are stronger than Alagaesia dragons. The Zxhydra parasite race can make changes to a dragon to fit whatever needs it wants. Every parasitic dragon has a hierarchical order, The royal parasitic dragon are the kings or queens of the Zxhydra race, they have more stronger senses than normal dragons. Followed by the elite warriors, then egg caretaker follow next in line. Soldiers or drones are the weakest of the Zxhydra race, but before I could think more about my race. I was snapped out of my thoughts by Eragon.
"Saphira, Garrow is trapped here. Help me lift this off of him." I growled in irrationally as he didn't mean me. What am I… chop liver? Before I could think about Eragon ignoring me. I yelped as Saphira nearly slapped me over with her tail on my head, as she rushed to Eragon. I saw Saphira stop in front of the farm and lower her head as she somehow poke her head into the small structure. I was surprised that she shoved her whole head in the house without getting it stuck.
I watch Saphira lift the wooden structure a little bit, allowing Eragon to crouch underneath the wood pile as I stand guard for intruders. He grabbed and dragged Garrow out of the house, while Eragon was removing Garrow from the farm. Saphira removed her head from the wooden structure as I looked at Garrow and saw his condition as Eragon dropped him on the ground in front of me.
Garrow looked like a fucking mess, he had multiple burns all over his lifeless body as these burns were in patches, his skin looked like someone poured acid over him, but without the skin eating away itself. Garrow's face didn't have as many burns as I thought, rest of him says otherwise. White and oozing pus was in his wounds, clothes were ragged and torn. Saphira saw what happened to Garrow as she walked over to my left side. She felt fear in Eragon, while Eragon knelt down to check his uncle's condition. I on the other hand was currently trying to figure out who the fuck could have done this?
"Murderers!" Saphira hissed in anger at what she saw as she was pissed at whoever did this to her rider.
"More like blood thirsty bastards to me." I growled in anger as I saw what they did to Garrow. This got me thinking about my split personality, mainly my host: Zylydra. Before I could even think about him, I heard Eragon once again.
"We can still save him! We have to take him to Gertrude, but I can't carry him to Carvahall." I growled loudly, after Eragon's statement as there was no possible way to heal Garrow, while I felt Saphira's presence on why I was growling at her rider. I looked at Garrow, he was barely breathing with a very shallow pulse to boot. He will likely die from his wounds.
"Eragon look at him... do you fucking think that he will survive the night with these injury?... No he will not, I say we leave him here." I snarled knowing that I would have pissed him off, but I don't care about people dying at a time like this. Safety is more important than fighting head-on, that is the only way. Eragon must fight until the mean threat is destroyed, I just hope that he chooses the right course of action.
"No I'll not leave him, I'll save him with or without your help Volkossah." Eragon yelled at me as I growled, knowing that without my help Eragon would not be able to carry both him and Garrow on Saphira. While Eragon was trying to make a makeshift bed out of the debris from the ruined farm.
"Fine, I'll help you but don't expect me to be happy about it." I snarled in anger as I had to help Eragon before he got himself killed. Saphira watched us exchange words as she watched her rider making something to carry Garrow on.
For a few minutes, Eragon finished making a makeshift bed for Garrow to lay in. I looked at this bed that Eragon made, it had a wooden board as the platform with leather straps from the ruined farm. Multiple holes were on each corner for Saphira to carry Eragon's uncle.
"Saphira can you carry Garrow?" Eragon asked Saphira as I groaned at Eragon's question. You can't carry two people on a young dragon like Saphira, she will fall out of the sky due to the weight underneath her.
"I can, but any more weight than him and I will fall out of the sky." Saphira may be young but that was a very wise answer for the sapphire dragon as she growls in worry for Eragon's uncle. I on the other claw had an idea to fix these issues.
"I have an idea, how about you Saphira carry Garrow, while I carry your rider." I smiled in a dragon-like way as I grabbed Eragon and Saphira's attention and hoped that this plan would work out without one of us dropping out of the sky. This caused Eragon to think for a few minutes, as I looked at Saphira. I saw her in her own thoughts about this.
"I don't mind as long as Saphira argees." Eragon wanted Saphira permission to ride on me, so that Saphira can carry Garrow without having to worry about her rider. While we both watched Eragon walk in front of Garrow he grabbed his arms. Eragon then pulled Garrow to the makeshift bed until he was in position, after that he waited for Saphira to respond.
"Yes you can ride Volkossah Eragon, but just this one time." Saphira argees but feels disheartened about her rider on me as Eragon nodded in acknowledgement while attaching the wooden board to Saphira's legs. I then crunch down and waited for him to climb on my back, after he was finished with his task. Eragon then walked over to me and began to carefully mount my back. Saphira pulled off to the skies as I watched Saphira wanting to make sure that she wouldn't fall out of the sky.
I rose back up as Eragon was seated on my back. It felt like I had an itch or a tickle on my back, but I needed to be careful not to harm Eragon. I know if I did harm him, Saphira would beat my ass in seconds.
I saw Saphira fly ahead of me towards Carvahall as I took to the skies with a flip of my wings. I follow Saphira in a formation at a very quick pace, we increase our speed up until the landscape below becomes too blurry to see as me and Saphira fly faster. I matched Saphira's speed perfectly until we were near the town, we immediately dived towards the ground carefully so as not to harm our passengers. Saphira had to land a couple of miles from Carvahall, she was way too spented to carry Garrow the rest of the way.
I felt Eragon climb off of me carefully, he then walked to Saphira and began to untie Garrow from her. I saw Saphira was out of air, she was panting trying to regain her breathing while I was concerned about Saphira's health. I just hope that Saphira didn't overwork herself, to the point of having a heat stroke.
"What do we do now?" Eragon asked, feeling hopeless to save Garrow, I had an idea on how to help out Eragon.
"I can carry your uncle with my five whip-like tails and carry you on my back. But it will let everyone know that I exist, I'd prefer to stay in the shadows." I answered with a snarl as I was very skeptical about going into Carvahall.
"Being seen doesn't matter!" Eragon yelled as he dragged Garrow towards me.
"Yes it does, the king doesn't know that I exist in Alagaesia; only you and Saphira know of me. If Galbatorix finds out about me, he will try to enslave me, use me as a weapon or he could kill me and take my Eldunari." I growled as I meant Galbatorix, I didn't want to do the king's bidding.
Eragon dropped the boards behind me as I used my tails to gently wrap around the board and Garrow then lifts them carefully into the air. I crouched down as Eragon walked to my back and carefully mounts me. It will be hard to stay balanced with my tails occupied, but I will try to help Eragon as much as possible.
"Fine Volkossah, just take me as far as you can. Saphira, find a place to regain your strength. I don't know how long I will be in Carvahall, so you just have to take care of yourself while I'm there." Eragon was determined to keep Garrow alive as Saphira just regained her breath.
"Go, I will wait for you." Saphira was comfortable about me taking Eragon to Carvahall. I was unsure why Saphira would trust a strange looking dragon to help her rider, so I will ask her after I help out Eragon with Garrow.
I left Saphira alone for her to find a place to rest, while I started to walk towards Carvahall with Eragon on my back and Garrow wrapped around my tails. We didn't talk as I carried both of them to their destination, wanting to give Eragon time to think about what happened just recently. About a quarter of a mile later, I stopped because an old man was coming towards us with a white beard, silver hair and blue eyes. I saw his mouth open in shock as he looked at me, in awe as he looked up and down. I guess he had never seen a parasitic dragon before, Eragon then peek his head over my right shoulder to see why I'd stopped.
"What have you got yourself into, young man?" He asked half in awe and the other half in a question. Taking this as my cue I gently placed Garrow on the ground beside me then I unwrapped him from my tails. I then crouched down as Eragon quickly dismounts my back.
"Call my name if you need help." Eragon nodded at my words as I opened my four wings and took to the skies spiraling in the air.
After I put a good amount of distance from Carvahall, I noticed it was late afternoon as I thought about what recently happened. From rumors I hear Galbatorix will do anything to get what he wants, every kill other riders and their dragons. He will even kill innocents to end the threat for his false throne. But before I could think about this, Saphira interrupted my thoughts by contacting me.
"Volkossah, is Eragon alright? I can't contact him? Where is he?" I hear Saphira firing off a barrage of questions at me as I heard her growling in fear for her rider, while I had pinpointed her location. Saphira's scent was in Palancar Valley as I flew towards Saphira's location.
"I left him with an old guy with a white beard with blue eyes. Eragon may be unconscious from his injuries earlier." I growled in worry for Saphira's rider as I followed Saphira's scent until it led to a cave in a mountain that was around The Spine.
"I hope he is okay but he should be safe with Brom, a storyteller in Carvahall. Eragon and his uncle will be in good hands with him." Saphira sighed in relief as that made me less worried for Eragon, while I was diving toward the ground until I opened my wings to land. As I landed, I saw Saphira laying down in front of the cave.
"Eragon will be an emotional and mentally wreck for now, So it's not wise to contact him until he recovers." I wisely answer as my stomach growls. Unfortunately Saphira heard my stomach, she knew I must be hungry, luckily I was not embarrassed by this.
"You must be hungry, Volkossah. Do you want to hunt together?" I would have agreed with Saphira. But she must be still tired from carrying Garrow, so I had an idea in mind.
"I would have agreed with you Saphira, but you're still worn out from carrying Garrow. So how about I get our food alone? While you rest up for the journey ahead." I proposed my idea to bring a deer to Saphira as she must have been sore from the heavy lifting.
"You're right Volkossah, you go and hunt. But don't expect me stay still in a cave for only breeding purposes, Volkossah. Once I recover my strength, I'll fight with you." I guess Saphira hated enslavement as she snarled in anger at the thought of it. I would never dream of using Saphira like that. I'm not an evil dragon, I'm just very uncontrolled once I completely enter my bloodlust state.
"Saphira I will not use you as a breeding tool like the king would. I just can easily lose control of myself, due to my parasitic darkness. I will be back with our food and your right to fight for freedom." I stated my parasitic darkness can control me.
"Go ahead Volkossah but don't take long, cause I'm still curious about you." Saphira hummed in a good mood as I nodded in acknowledgement. I took flight once again, as I began searching for some deer for us to eat in the forest below.
For a few minutes of flying around The Spine, I found a clearing with a herd of deer. Without alerting them, I silently dived towards them. About 1'000 feet above the ground, I pitched my wings upwards causing me to drift upwards as I grabbed two does with my claws by their throats, one for me and the other for Saphira. While I was soaring upwards, I squeezed them with my claws. Causing them to struggle for air as they started to slowly suffocated from asphyxiation, my dragon strength easily crushed their trachea and the air in their lungs. After a few seconds went by Saphira's and my prey struggled in my claws, they quickly succumbed to asphyxiation, then I turned 180 degrees as I began to fly back to Saphira. While flying back I carefully used my tails to gently grab the two deer and place them on my back, so that I wouldn't land awkwardly on my hind legs.
"Saphira, I'm coming back with some deer." I purred in happiness at my first successful hunt as I contacted Saphira while I made it back.
"Your first hunt was a success, I'm surprised Volkossah. You know I'm starting to like your company." I was flattered by Saphira's words as she hummed, while I was gliding down to Saphira as I saw her laying down while I softly landed in front of the sapphire dragon. I pulled a doe off of my back and dropped it in front of Saphira.
"You do? But why do you like my company?" I growled in happiness as I saw Saphira start to eat her meal as I did the same with my meal.
"Thank you Volkossah. I like your company because I don't have another dragon to talk to or to play with. I would love to get to know you better." Saphira thanked me for the doe as she answered my question. I was surprised at the reason why she likes my company, while hearing Saphira tear into her food.
"That's nice of you to say." I complimented Saphira's answer as I tore into the upper part of the doe, while Saphira was eating the lower part.
After that conversation is over, we continue to eat in silence as we were lost in our thoughts. Until I thought about the question I had for Saphira.
"Saphira, why would you let a strange dragon like me help your rider?" I asked as I growled in confusion, while I saw Saphira stopped eating. She looked straight at me with blood on her muzzle.
"I… I don't know why I let you help Eragon? I hope that since you and me are the last dragons in Alagaesia, maybe in the spring time we could uh…. you know." I saw Saphira looking at her doe, growling in embarrassment. I know what Saphira was implying: she wanted to increase the dragon population, but with Galbatorix as a threat he would search far and wide for mine and Saphira's eggs if we mated.
"Whoa whoa Saphira! We still have a long way away before that happens, okay let's just take this one step at a time. We'll talk about this later alright." I was surprised that Saphira was implying, I want to wait until spring. I'm sure Saphira wants to wait to mate as well.
"Your right Volkossah! Let's wait to sort out our feelings so that we can decide on what to do next, sorry for almost ruining the start of our friendship." Saphira apologizes as she growled in fear of losing me, but I was not affected by this at all.
"Saphira, you don't need to apologize as one single small mistake will not ruin our alliance. We've just got started on our journey for freedom and I will be along for the ride with you and Eragon by my side." I stated hoping that this would lift up Saphira's mood as I purred in happiness. Saphira was surprised to hear that I was going to help her and Eragon avenge his uncle, whoever the killer was.
"Thank you Volkossah for cheering me up. Let's continue eating, we have a big journey ahead of us." Saphira was hummed in happiness about having another dragon with her to keep her company as she questioned our friendship. A fang dragon-like grin was plastered on my draconic face as I brightened up Saphira's mood.
"Yes, let's finish our meals, tomorrow we have a long road ahead." I purred in happiness of having another dragon as a friend. Then after that conversation was done, we continued to eat our prey in silence. After a few minutes, we finished our food as we both lay down to digest our meal. I noticed the sunset in the early evening hours.
"We should get to sleep for our journey ahead. Goodnight Saphira." I yawned, showing my teeth as I laid my head on my paws. While I was tired from the rough day that I had, I'm sure Saphira was tired from this day too as I heard her yawn while I began to fall to sleep.
"Goodnight Volkossah." Saphira yawned once more as she laid her head down. We both started to snooze about the future ahead, but unknown to us. We both are about to embark on a journey of a lifetime.
