Chapter 127: Jamie and Eddie 2.0

Abby stands on the 14th floor of 1PP waiting by The Police Commissioner's private elevator. A moment later the doors open up to reveal Jamie and Eddie both dressed in their dress blues with their everyday NYPD jackets overtop and they step off carrying multiple bags and Jessie in her carrier.

"Welcome!" Abby pleasantly greets them before she turns and heads straight for the Commissioner's office "Right this way."

"Actually…" Eddie begins to protest as she and Jamie move to follow "Is there somewhere we can dump all this stuff first before we see The Commissioner?"

Turning slightly Abby smiles at the family then puts a hand on the door, turns the knob, opens it, steps inside and then waits for them to enter "Like I said, right this way." She instructs as she gestures for them to enter "You'll be staging out of here."

"Wow." Eddie notes impressed to her husband "That hook of yours is finally paying off!"

"Our hook." Jamie corrects "But the only reason it's working in our favor is because of her." he pointedly adds as he slightly lifts and gestures at Jessie's carrier in his hands.

"So then its not our hook…" Eddie deduces as a look of amusement plays on her face "It's her hook." She adds as she gestures to their daughter.

"100% yes." Jamie concurs.

"Good to know!" Eddie outright laughs.

…..

Eddie is standing in the still mostly empty press room of 1PP trying to adjust her dress blues around her when she hears a baby that is not her own so she looks up and spots Garrett escorting a woman and baby inside and up to the stage. He sees Eddie and gestures in acknowledgement waving her towards them so Eddie walks forwards to meet them.

"Eddie…" Garrett begins to introduce "I'd like you to meet Kelly Riser, the woman who's life you helped save and Kelly, this is Sergeant Edit Reagan."

"Hi." Eddie greets.

"Where's Jessie?" Garrett prompts.

"Jamie's got her." Eddie explains "Trying to keep the dress blues spit up free – at least until I have to hold her for the medal ceremony – after that I make no promises." She adds with a laugh but as she is talking Eddie can't help but notice a look of confusion appear on Kelly's face.

"Is something wrong?" Eddie inquires of the woman.

"So you were the pregnant officer?" Kelly slowly inquires.

Eddie nods "Yes."

"And your name is Edit?" Kelly presses.

"Well formally yes." Eddie confirms "But I go by Eddie."

The woman looks even more confused at hearing that "So then who is Jamie?"

"My husband." Eddie replies "Lieutenant Jameson or Jamie Reagan why?"

"Oh." The woman realizes with a frown as she looks down at the baby in her arms then up again with tears welling in her eyes.

"What?" Eddie prompts in concern "What's wrong?"

"Oh I've made a terrible mistake!" Kelly cries as she bursts out into tears.

….

Eddie stands there a bit stunned as she watches Garrett whisk a crying Kelly and the baby out the door to somewhere private to regroup but the second they are gone, Eddie just bursts out laughing.

"What's so funny?" Jamie asks as he walks up behind his wife with Jessie in his arms so Eddie turns to face her husband with total amusement playing in her eyes.

"You remember when we delivered that baby in the movie theatre?" Eddie inquires.

"I do." Jamie replies.

"You remember that the parents thought they were naming the baby after you and mistakenly named him Eddie thinking that was your name?"

Jamie rolls his eyes "Don't remind me."

"Well Kelly wanted to name her daughter after me so guess what she named her?" Eddie prompts – her eyes dancing in absolute delight.

Jamie takes a moment to study his wife and think about her words before realization hit him "No…" he breathes out as an amused smile of his own creeps up on his face "She did not." But Eddie bobs her head up and down in confirmation "She did! She named her Jamie – after me." She reiterates as she cracks up laughing all over again "Told you it was a girl's name!"

"That's too funny." Jamie admits with a shake of his head.

"Isn't it?" Eddie agrees "We seriously need to arrange for those two to meet when they are older." She decides "Maybe they'll hit it off and there can be a Jamie and Eddie 2.0 out there!"

"Wouldn't that be something." Jamie notes.

"I don't think the world is ready for another pairing like you two." Danny adds as he walks up – also in his dress blues "Well don't you look spiffy!" He quips.

"Thanks." Eddie replies but Danny grins and points at his niece "I meant her."

"Of course you did." Eddie deadpans annoyed.

Danny turns his head to look at his brother but points at Eddie "She used to find stuff like that funny."

"I used to get sleep too." Eddie adds.

"Okay good point." Danny relents.

"Where's Maria?" Jamie inquires.

Danny looks around "You mean she's not here yet?"

"I haven't seen her." Eddie offers.

Danny's face scrunches up in concern as he pulls out his cellphone to contact his partner but then the sound of a very unhappy yet familiar baby reaches his ears "Uh oh." He breathes out as he looks up to scan the entrances to see Maria in her dress blues appear with an unhappy Elena in her arms. He immediately moves towards her and a look of relief appears on Maria's face the second she sees him.

"Danny please take her." She pleads as she just begins to hand her daughter over.

"You brought her?" Danny inquires in surprise as he has no choice but to take the almost two year old into his arms.

"Don't even get me started." Maria huffs out super annoyed "Daycare cancelled. Mom's got some appointment she can't cancel, I couldn't even reach Anna and look at my jacket! She threw her apple sauce back at me!"

Danny looks over and tries not to cringe "It doesn't look that bad."

"Quit lying." Maria growls back as she reaches into her baby bag to grab the wipes.

"At least it's a dark color." Danny offers.

Off to the side, Eddie watches the scene with a mixture of fascination and trepidation "I'm happy that today, that's not me." She admits to her husband next to her "But realize one day it very likely will be."

"Nah." Jamie rejects as he smiles at and bounces his daughter a bit in his arms "Jessie's a good baby. You'd never do that would you?" He asks of his daughter.

Eddie turns to look at her husband "Then you're delusional." She flat out states.

"I know." Jamie agrees.

"Then why say it?" Eddie presses.

"Gonna live in my happy little bubble as long as I can." Jamie explains as he again makes funny faces at his daughter.

Eddie stares at her husband another few moments then the next second she gets a giddy happy smile on her face as she makes faces at her daughter too "You are an angel!" She tells the baby "You would never do something like that to Mommy would you? No you would not!"

Hearing Jamie and Eddie babble like fools to their daughter, Maria and Danny look over and for a moment just stare at them in amazed wonder.

"It's the sleep deprivation." Danny decides.

"Yup." Maria wholeheartedly concurs before her attention is drawn back to her unhappy daughter so she pulls out one of her toys from a bag and hands it to her in an attempt to distract her "Can you keep her during the ceremony?" she pretty much pleads to Danny.

"Hmmm…" Danny ponders "Maybe take her up with you. Eddie will have Jessie and The Mayor might just love the thought of 2 mom's getting medals together with their babies in their arms – you'll both be front page news for sure." He jokes.

"I love it!" The Mayor's voice suddenly sounds.

Startled Jamie, Eddie, Danny and Maria all look over to see The Mayor standing there next to an unhappy looking Frank staring super unimpressed at his oldest son.

"Sorry." Danny apologetically mutters out with a cringe just as Garrett, Kelly and baby Jamie reenter the room.

Seeing them, The Mayor looks around at the three mother's and three babies and his smile grows "This is perfect! Absolutely perfect!"

But a second later, Elena's temper tantrum flares up again as she starts to cry and throws her toy which causes baby Jamie to cry which leads to Jessie starting to cry and just like that there is a chorus of three very unhappy crying babies and three sets of moms trying to soothe and calm them down.

Smirking Frank leans towards the Mayor "Ah babies. They are so unpredictable aren't they? I'll try to speak loudly so everyone can still hear me."

Looking at his boss, Garrett picks up on Frank's meaning "Yes, this will make for a great medal ceremony for sure. Great headlines." he helpfully adds to The Mayor "I can just see it now – 'Mayor's attempted use of Babies at Medal Ceremony backfires' or 'Babies temper tantrums upstage Mayor at Medal Ceremony'." he offers causing The Mayor to get a very unamused and annoyed look on his face knowing Garrett is right - this is not the type of press he is looking for…

"You know I think you can handle this ceremony Frank." The Mayor suddenly decides "I have some phone calls I need to make anyway."

Frank looks at The Mayor and offers him an accommodating smile "Up to you."

"Great." The Mayor grumbles "I'll use your office."

Everyone silently watches The Mayor disappear out the door then Eddie turns to look at Frank "So..." She slowly deduces "…I don't need to bring her up on stage with me?"

Frank looks at his daughter in law and offers her a genuine smile "No."

Jamie let's out a breath of air in relief at hearing that.

….

Eddie and Maria without their daughters stand on the press stage with Frank. He picks up a medal and places it around Maria's neck "Congratulation Detective."

"Thank you sir." Maria returns.

Frank smiles at her then moves a step over to stand in front of his daughter in law. He again picks up a medal and places if around Eddie's neck. "Congratulations Sergeant." He offers.

Eddie smiles up at her father in law "Thank you Commissioner." She accepts as she looks out into the audience to see her husband with their daughter in his arms looking on in pride as Garrett steps up to the microphone.

"And that concludes the press portion of today's ceremony. Thank you all for coming."

So as people start to get up and leave Jamie with Jessie and Danny with Elena also get up

"Press portion?" Jamie questions to his brother "That's new isn't it?"

In response, Danny just shrugs and instead says "There's Mommy." to the toddler in his arms as he gently picks up Elena's wrist "Let's wave at Mommy." He prompts as he waves her little hand at Maria which leads Jamie to try to get Jessie to look in Eddie's direction "Look at Mommy Jessie." He whispers to his daughter as both men gravitate towards the stage.

Smiling the two Mother's watch as the most important men in their lives move towards them with their daughters.

Standing off to the side with Frank, Henry leans towards his son as the men watch Jamie and Danny hand Jessie and Elena over "Maybe it's just me…" Henry begins as Maria shows Elena her medal "…but watching those 6 together is…"

"I know." Frank interrupts "I see it too."

"Gives a new meaning to the word unit." Henry points out.

"I know." Frank states as Sid suddenly appears and offers a black box out to Frank "Thank you." he tells his Captain as he takes the box and walks towards his sons "Before you go…" Frank states as he approaches "…we have one more piece of business to conduct."

"We do?" Jamie questions in surprise.

Frank nods and looks down at the box in his hands "We do." He confirms as he opens the box "One more set of commendations to give out."

"Come again?" Jamie questions confused.

"The unit citation." Frank explains with a smile as he turns the box around to present to the group and there inside, Jamie, Danny, Eddie and Maria see 4 unit citation bars.

"Oh." Danny notes "Now I get why you made us wear our dress blues too."

"I made you?" Frank challenges.

"Heavily suggested it." Danny corrects.

Frank smiles at his oldest son then turns his attention to his youngest son as he pulls a pin out of the box "Lieutenant." He prompts as he hands the box out to Sid standing next to him "Step forward."

Still a little stunned and a lot overwhelmed, Jamie steps forward to receive his citation bar…
