Barry was still running around the vortex of the singularity, trying to contain it.

"Brilliant," Stein exclaimed in excitement. "He's containing the singularity by increasing its angular momentum!"

Caitlin had no idea what that meant, but Cisco seemed to understand. He held his phone up to his mouth and said, "Barry! It's stabilizing! Keep doing what you're doing!"

"I'm not sure how much longer I can." Barry's voice sounded faint, but she closed her eyes, listening to him. "Cisco!"

"Now what?" Joe asked.

"We have to merge the inner and outer event horizons," Stein informed him.

"How will we do that?" Ronnie rested his hand on Caitlin's shoulder.

Stein paused for a moment, and when he spoke, his voice was considerably less excited than before. "By separating the eye of it. The amount of energy from the fissure should do the trick."

Caitlin grabbed her ex-fiancé's hand, wordlessly pleading with him not to leave her.

"It's our only hope, Ronald," Stein said quietly.

"Ronnie, no!" Caitlin hated herself for being selfish, but she had already lost him once. She couldn't do it again. "It's too dangerous. What if you can't escape the in-rush?"

"Cait." He murmured, squeezing her shoulders. "We have to try."

Those words would be the death of her, Caitlin knew that for sure. Ronnie grabbed her in a tight hug and kissed her forehead. Then he and Stein merged into Firestorm.

But this is where things change.

The second that they merged, Peter zapped FIRESTORM with a taser web, taking Ronnie and Stein down. Not willing to let it happen a second time, Peter walked over and yanked the FIRESTORM Matrix off of their chest.

"No," Peter stated as he looked at his friends. "Not this time." He then looked at the device and saw it was about to go critical. "I already let you do this once to me, Ronnie. I'm not letting you do it a second time."

"Pete..." Ronnie tried to stop him. "Don't do this."

Peter sighed as he looked at the singularity, knowing that his world was doomed if he didn't do something. "Take care of May for me..."

Then before anyone could even attempt to stop him, Peter shot out a web that grabbed onto some debris being dragged into the singularity. Making his way as high up as he could go, Peter managed to get as high up as he leaped onto another piece of debris. Taking himself over one piece at a time to that gigantic wormhole, he passed Barry and made his way to the center.

Barry panicked when he saw what Peter was doing. "Peter, don't do it!"

"Take care of the city, Barry," Peter said as he started setting off the Matrix. "You're their hero now."

The pulsating Matrix suddenly burst into a thousand fragments, unleashing a torrent of energy that engulfed Peter and the singularity, consuming them both in a blinding blaze of light. Amidst the chaos, Barry was hurled away, as debris and rubble flew in all directions. The ground shook violently, and the air was thick with the sound of crashing metal and shattering glass. And then, as suddenly as it had started, it was over.

The blinding flash of light subsided, and the swirling vortex dissipated, leaving behind a dark, ominous mass of clouds hanging over the city. A streak of something that could only be Barry plummeted from the sky, hurtling towards the earth with terrifying speed. Everyone lurched forward, their hearts pounding with fear and adrenaline, as they scrambled around the corner to see what had happened.

Barry stumbled when he crashed into a building and took several stories to steady himself as he ran downward. When he reached the ground, he yanked his cowl off as he searched the skies for any sign of his friend if he had survived the explosion.

"Spider-Man, are you there?" Barry asked into his comms. But all he was getting in return was static. "Spider-Man? Peter!" As he started to panic, he began to lose faith in his friend's survival. "No..."

There was no Peter.

Everyone rushed over to meet up with Barry, hoping to see that their friend had made it. But when they saw Barry, he dropped to his knees in agony and fear that he had failed his friend. Caitlin's eyes filled with tears and Barry shook his head and held out his arms.

"I'm so sorry."

Caitlin fell into his arms and dropped to her knees, burying her face in his shoulder as her cheeks became wet with tears. She never even got to say...she never got to explore these feelings she was having for her friend, but now she knew. She loved Peter. And now he was gone.
