Chapter 1: Waking up Bright-Eyed
Above Chef Saltbaker's Bakery is the complex where he, Ms. Chalice, and Acinus live. There are two bathrooms, two bedrooms, one living room connected to a kitchen, and one desk office. Ms. Chalice's room is decorated with play posters, famous dancers, and pictures of her friends and new family. But on her nightstand, close to her bed, is a heart-shaped frame of Cuphead and the marbles he gave her in the 2nd last episode of Cuphead Show. Chalice is sleeping in her bed with Acinus in her arms. Chef Saltbaker quietly came in with a tray of grape tarts. He smiled warmly when he came close to Chalice.
"Wake up, Chalice and Acinus," he said, gently shaking them.
When they woke, Chalice said while Acinus clucked, "Morning, SaltDad."
"I made you both grape tarts."
"Sweet. Ever since you adopted me, I never felt so grateful."
Chalice begins to think about her times in an orphanage and living homeless. But then she imagines all the people she met, like C.H.A.R.M, the Cup Brothers, Elder Kettle, Chef Saltbaker, and the Guardian Pet Trio. Chalice cried tears of joy as she ate her tarts with Acinus.
At Elder Kettle's house, he reads the newspaper while the Cup Brothers have pancakes and their favorite drinks, tea with extra sugar cubes and coffee with extra creamer. Sugercube and Creamer are eating with Elder Kettle's Goat.
"Hey, boys. Listen to this," said Elder Kettle.
"What is it, Elder Kettle?" the Cup Bros answered.
"The Mayor of Inkwell Isle is holding the annual Butterfly Photography Contest."
"Butterflies? Boring," Cuphead, unimpressed.
"Cuphead, you'll never understand the majestic beauty of butterflies. They help us pollinate our crops and flowers. And they keep our world green," Mugman said, acting fancy.
"What good will come out from a silly photo contest on sissy bugs?"
"The money of those participating while helping save the endangered butterflies, Cuphead," Elder Kettle continued. "They even give out prizes to the three best winners. This year's prizes might interest you. The 3rd place prize is a hundred-thousand-dollar cash prize, the 2nd place prize is a complete collection of the rarest Dirk Dangerous Comics, and the 1st place prize is two custom-made motorcycles."
Hearing the prizes made Cuphead have a cheeky grin and say, "I need to get my camera. But I don't know which prize I should go after. All of them sound great."
"Cuphead, we should go for the motorcycles. I bet we'll win a lot of ladies if we win 1st prize," said Mugman.
"But Mugman. The girls love you already."
Mugman and Elder Kettle thought, "If only he knew the truth that he is the one that the ladies love."
"Sugarcube and Creamer, you want to help Mugman and me win the prizes?" Cuphead asks.
Sugarcube barked, and Creamer meowed in agreement.
"Mugsy, our guardian pets, are in it. Let's prepare our cameras for the competition. We're going on a butterfly photo hunt," Cuphead said.
"Let me guess. We should call Chalice to get her and Acinus to join us?" Mugman smiled.
"You know it. It's not an adventure without the Cup Trio together.
"Remember that old clearing that we used to have picnics, boys?" Elder Kettle asks.
"Oh yeah. Dad would make his hotdogs, and Mom would allow you to frolic on the field to find flowers to bring home," Cuphead answered.
"Perhaps you can find some butterflies over there. I heard rumors that a butterfly kingdom lives near it, too."
"A butterfly kingdom? I like the one in the fairytales?"
"Oh, yes. Your Mother mentioned she visited there a couple of times. She even claimed to have befriended one of the royalty."
"That seems hard to believe. But then again, I did encounter many crazy things in my life. So, it might be possible."
"Come on, Cuphead. Let's see if our parents' cameras still work," said Mugman.
The Cup Bros quickly goes off with Sugarcube, and Creamer follows them.
"Have fun, you four. Wanna go for a ride, Goat?" Elder Kettle said, puts on an helmet.
The Goat agreed before it, and Elder Kettle ran out of the house and drove in Elder Kettle's car.
