Monday. My last day of summer school. I showed up every day and did every ounce of homework. My last summer school class is Social studies with Mr Neck. He asked us to do a report on the American Revolution. I hand my report to him. He looks at it.

Mr Neck: this is A grade work. You know, I was wrong about you, Sordino. When I first met you, it seemed like you were being defiant. Your report on the suffragettes was excellent and this one is too.

Me (smiling): thank you sir.

Mr Neck ( strong face): Now get out of here, enjoy your summer and see you September. I have to enter the summer school grades in the system.

I leave the building.
