Hello there! Welcome fellow sinners to the next chapter of Light Bringer Stories: The Witcher.
Hope you enjoy it has much as I had writing it and now review time.
TheRagFromTheCrag: Okay your first comment I had no idea what was so strange about that chapter. Well Lucifer already did Yen, the threesome could still work but with the other two might be difficult to work in now. I actually overheard Phili and Rita talk about that in-game.
Now story time.
"You win again!" Priscilla said throwing her 'Clear Weather' card down on the table. The afternoon had been spend by Lucifer and her playing a few games of gwent at The Chameleon.
And as usual Lucifer had won all of them much to her frustration. He was sometimes asked if winning every time made the game boring, though in his opinion winning was rather like a child with cancer, it never gets old.
"Do I look like a Devil who is willing to take an L?" Lucifer said with a satisfied smirk, "Why do all the pretty ladies play a Scoia'tael deck?"
"What do you mean?" Priscilla said.
"A few months ago, actually on the same evening when we met, I played a woman named Shani." Lucifer said, "She played a Scoia'tael deck as well. She was the closest thing I had to a challenge that evening."
"But still it's unnatural how you manage to win all the time." Dandelion said having observed the games, "You sure your not cheating?"
"I never cheat." Lucifer told him sharply, "What fun is there in that? I find it much more satisfying to out smart my opponent, especially when they are cheating themselves."
But he was suddenly interrupted when a panicked and distressed Ciri came running up to the table. "Lucifer!" she said.
"What is it?" Lucifer said, standing up at once, "Is it my dad?"
"What? Of course not..." Ciri said, gesturing to the stairs, "Can we talk in privet?"
"Yes, of course." Lucifer said immediately, with a simple snap of his finger his cards disappeared, "Thank you for the game, Priscilla."
"Your welcome." she said with some concern, "I hope everything will be alright."
"They always do when I'm involved." Lucifer said with a wink before following Ciri up the stairs.
"...Yeah." Dandelion whispered once they where out of ear shot, "I think he's cheating at card games."
"Totally." Priscilla said.
Once they walked two set of stairs and came out on the landing, when they where alone, Lucifer leaned against the wooden railing as he watched his beloved explained what had gotten her so worked up.
"Something's afoot." Ciri began to explain, "Philippa and Margarita want to speak to me."
"Oh, the horror!" Lucifer said in a mock dramatic voice, "Two attractive sorceresses wish to speak to you. In Hell, that's a punishment we reserve for the greatest monsters in history!"
"Luci, this is serious!" she said, and she began to slightly pace across the landing, "I bet they have plans for me. And they're deigning to inform me of them."
"Doubt you could avoid women like them for long." Lucifer noted, "It's just like a band aid, just pull it off and get it over with."
"And if they try to force me into something?" she said but this only resulted in a amused chuckle from him.
"As if there is any force in the Omniverse that can make you do anything against your will." Lucifer said rather proudly, "It's one of your many qualities I find so attractive."
"Thanks, Lucifer." Ciri said with a smile, "Kiss for good luck?"
"You don't need any luck." Lucifer said nodding his head, "But a kiss couldn't hurt."
Ciri gripped the front of his coat, pulling him down closer her face, standing on the tip of her toes as they placed a quick but loving kiss on the others lips. With renewed confidence, Ciri turned around and walked into Phillipa's room, where the sorceress herself was waiting.
"I hate it when she leaves." Lucifer muttered as he watched the door close, "But I love watching her go."
"Never figured you for someone to talk to themselves."
He turned around to find Yennefer walking up the stairs, apparently having picked up some or all of their conversation.
"Oh, I just love the sound of my own voice. Why do you think I enjoy singing so much." Lucifer said with a smirk, "So what brings you here?"
"Priscilla mentioned a distraught Ciri, thought she could use some help." Yennefer said walking past him, "I'm surprised you didn't went with her."
"She doesn't need me there." Lucifer said as he watched the sorceress walk to the door, "What are you doing?"
"Trying to hear what's happening in there." Yennefer said as she kneeled down.
Just then he heard footsteps and soon Geralt joined them on the landing, "Dandelion said there is something with Ciri." he said, "Where is she?"
"Bloody hell, I'm surprised Emhyr doesn't know yet!" Lucifer said with a roll of his eyes, "She's in a meeting, the same one Yennefer is trying to listen into." taking the flask from his coat.
"Yennefer, relax. She will be fine." Geralt said leaning against the railing, "Do you have so little faith?"
"I don't trust Philippa and Rita." Yennefer said simply, "Rita won't hurt her, but Philippa... She can be ruthless."
"Ciri's been in tougher situations and come out of them all right." Geralt said, declining Lucifer's offer of a swing from his drink, "Besides, I think Lucifer would burn Novigrad down if they hurt her."
"Burn Phillipa, maybe. But not an entire city that has nothing to do with it." Lucifer said, slightly insulted, "The punishment must fit the crime, after all." taking a drink from the flask.
"So..." Geralt said who couldn't help himself, "What do you see?"
"Philippa pontificating." Yennefer told them, "Ciri pacing wall to wall. She stopped. She's saying something... Philippa's turned pale!"
"My girl!" Lucifer said with a proud smirk, "Though isn't Philippa already very pale?"
"Yeah, she is." Geralt said with a smile of his own, "That's my Ciri. Probably gave her an earful."
"Quiet!" Yennefer said as she stood up, "Here she comes."
She jumps back and both Yennefer and Geralt utterly fails to look nonchalant as the door creaked open and Ciri joined them back on the landing.
"...You were eavesdropping." she said immediately upon spotting their guilty faces.
"No." Yennfer and Geralt denied at once and at the same time.
Obviously not believing them, Ciri turned her attention to Lucifer, who was looking to the side to avoid her gaze, "Lucifer Lux. Did they eavesdrop?" she said.
"Yes." Lucifer said, earning himself a glare from the witcher and the sorceress, "What? I never lie."
"What?" Geralt said in disbelieve, "But you play gwent."
"I might have dropped a few hints that I'm a gwent enjoyer." Lucifer said casually, "Your point?"
"At gwent you need to bluff, which is lying." Geralt pointed out, "Something you just claimed you don't do."
"Bluffing and lying, two totally different things. Get it straight, Geralt." Lucifer said before turning to Ciri, "What where those hot witches up to?"
"I'd rather not talk about it." Ciri said, "Not yet, at least."
"Of course, when you're ready." Yennefer said.
"I'm going for a walk. Clear my head." Ciri said before turning to the tall blonde, "Are you going to accompany me?"
"As much as I would like to, I can't." Lucifer said gesturing to the witcher, "Geralt needs my help."
"No, I don't." he said rather gruff.
"Why?" Ciri said jokingly turning to her father, "Is it your turn to take a little field trip with Lucifer?"
"Yes, it is." Lucifer said throwing an arm around an annoyed Geralt could respond.
"Can't you take him off my hands?" Geralt said turning to Yennefer, "Take him on a field trip?"
"I already had mine with Lucifer back in Skellige." she said with a slight giggle, "It's where I found out the lad is very skilled."
"The lad? You do know I'm older than you." Lucifer said with a roll of his eyes, "Like a lot older."
"That's an interesting point." Yennefer said crossing her arms, "How old are you exactly?"
"Well, time works very differently in Hell, so..." Lucifer said looking as if he was doing some calculations inside his head with some very big numbers, "I guess I have to go with ageless."
Despise the protest from Geralt, which Lucifer promptly ignored and followed him up to the Ruby suite where Avallac'h had taken up residence. Walking into the large, lavishly decorated room, they found the Aen Elle elf sitting on the large king size bed, on the floor where drawings of naked women in very seductive poses.
"Need a hanky?" Geralt said, "Gotta admit, never expected this of you..."
"You humans have..." Avallac'h said, "Unusual tastes."
"Don't pretend elves are any different." Lucifer said, smirking as he saw the glare the elf was giving him, "Mortals are not so different from each other as they would like to think."
"Seems your smugness has only grown stronger over the years, Star of Morning." Avallac'h said as he stood up, "Never thought that was possible."
"Oh, bloody hell. Is this still about Lara Dorren?" Lucifer said with a roll of his eyes, "Get over it, Crevan."
"Get over it? Coming from you that is very hypocritical." Avallac'h said with clear distaine in his voice, "One so famous for his grudge against his Father."
"Can we skip the arguing and get to the point?" Geralt spoke up, "I'm tired."
"Your right, witcher." Avallac'h said, "It's about Imlerith, how his death caused by the Star of Morning has greatly weakened Eredin."
"What can I say, except your welcome?" Lucifer said smugly.
"Two others remain." Avallac'h continued, ignoring the smug Devil, "Caranthir is a loyalist, but Ge'els... That is another story. He was a devoted follower of our former king and as it happens, Eredin poisoned our beloved ruler."
"Regicide, serious stuff." Geralt said crossing his arms in front of his chest, "Take it not many know about this?"
"Of the living, only I." Avallac'h said, "And Eredin, of course."
"That's all well and good." Lucifer said, "But you didn't mention sending Ge'els to the Shadow Realm or whatever afterlife you elves believe in."
"Such drastic means are not always necessary." Avallac'h told him sharply.
"So I assume your going to try and convince Ge'els of the truth?" Lucifer said smugly, "Doubt you have it in you."
"Nothing you need to worry about." Avallac'h said.
"I do believe it's something I have to worry about, a great deal in fact." Lucifer said with great seriousness, "Because it does concern a woman I care a great deal about."
"So what are you planning?" Geralt spoke up, "Your going to offer him a deal."
"Brilliant deduction, bravo." Avallac'h said, rather sarcastically, "What I propose is to bring Ge'els here, show him the truth of what happened."
"Fabulous plan." Geralt snarked, "If we only knew where to find him."
"We do." Avallac'h said, "In the land of the Aen Elle."
"Of course, how predictable." Lucifer said with a roll of his eyes, "Why is he so important?"
"Eredin differs from the king he killed." Avallac'h explained, "Power for its own sake interests him. He spends most of his time atop his steed, leading the Red Riders. He as little patience for bureaucracy."
"Well, finally something me and Eredin agree on!" Lucifer said, "So Ge'els is a viceroy of sorts?"
"Ge'els is an excellent administrator and an even better plotter." Avallac'h continued, "He's the most dangerous individual amongst the Aen Elle."
"Sounds like the life of the party. Can't wait to meet him." Lucifer said as he turned around, "Well then, let's go."
"What do you mean?" Geralt said.
"I'm going to fly us there." Lucifer said looking over his shoulder, "Or would you rather walk? Or worse, use a portal?"
With the beat of great white angel wings on the night air, Geralt and Avallac'h where dropped down on a large balcony in Tir Na Lia, viceroy Ge'els palace, landing in a heap on the stone floor. Lucifer touched down as his wings folded back into himself, standing tall and proud.
"Better than a portal, right?" he said as he watched the two get up.
"Okay, I'll give you that one." Geralt said, much to the satisfaction of Lucifer as the two followed after Avallac'h.
They followed until they came across a large garden overlooking the city down below, where they found their target for this visit. The elf was busy with a painting of another elf in the nude.
"I believe we're done for the day, my tulip." the tall elf said from behind the canvas, "Be a dear and leave us alone."
And as the elven woman left, Ge'els stepped out from behind the painting, tall enough that he even looked down on Lucifer, who was very tall himself. "For I think we can agree this matter is between us and us alone, correct? Star of Morning."
"Again with the titles." Lucifer said with a roll of his eyes, "I have a name you know!"
"We refer to you as Star of Morning, because of our legends, to honor a being of supreme might, out of respect." Ge'els said eerily calm, "Would you rather we address you by the other name we have for you? The one we use in tales we tell to our children? The stories of old Scratch?"
"Actually I like that name." Lucifer said amused as he watched the naked elf walk away.
"Do you like my new model?" Ge'els said as he walked towards a table, where a handsome collection of fine wine bottles where located, "Something of a Lara Dorren about her, wouldn't you agree?"
"Meh." Lucifer said dismissively with a shrug of his shoulders.
"What about you, Crevan?" Ge'els said turning to the other elf, "Do you agree with old Scratch's opinion?"
"As much as it pains me, I have to agree with the Star of Morning." Avallac'h said, "Her height, perhaps. Nothing more."
"Seems I touched a tender spot... So let's change the subject, shall we?" the viceroy said gesturing to the table, "Care for a drink?"
"Got any vodka?" Geralt said dryly but the elf shook his head, "Oh, yeah, keep forgetting you don't touch that filth, disgraceful as it is."
"And they wonder why I'm not fond of these particular elves." Lucifer scoffed as he crossed his arms, "No taste for a good drink."
"...I must admit, you appearing here, quite the surprise, witcher." Ge'els said turning to Geralt, "Incidentally, interesting choice of allies. Do you think Avallac'h is honest with you? Just curious."
"Yeah, he's being honest." Geralt said crossing his arms, "I think that even among the Aen Elle elves there are those capable of being decent."
"Naivety is a fools blessing." Ge'els said before glancing at the blonde Devil, "And what about your friend, the one who goes by many names?"
"Lucifer is not my friend." Geralt said much to the slight disappointment of the blonde Devil, "I might not like him, but I trust him. Hasn't done anything to betray that trust."
"Interesting, not many would dare speak about old Scratch like that, least of all in his presence, knowing what he is and what he is capable of." Ge'els said, half impressed and half amused, "But I detect a shadow of impatience in your faces. So, what brings you here?"
"I've come to tell you who killed our king." Avallac'h said as he stepped forward.
"You've gone through a great deal of trouble to reach me..." Ge'els began.
"Not really." Lucifer said casually, "I just flew them over."
"Of course you did..." Ge'els said with a hint of disbelieve as he turned away from them, "I must believe you've put equal effort into preparing this lie."
"You shall see the truth." Avallac'h said, "You will dream it."
"My intuition was correct. This will be interesting." Ge'els said as he turned around, "Where will we be going?"
"To the world of the Aen Seidhe." Avallac'h said, as the shorter elf led the way.
Ge'els and Geralt followed after them, but after a few moments the witcher stopped in his track and looked over his shoulder.
"Lucifer." he said seeing the blonde Devil standing next to the wine table, "Your coming?"
"Go on ahead." he said waving his hand, "I'll be right behind you."
With a shrug, Geralt continued to follow after the two elves. Lucifer turned back to the table, one arm crossed in front of his chest with the other propped up on it as he stroked his face with his hand.
"Ini mini miny..." Lucifer said as he looked at the bottles, "Oh fuck it." and he just grabbed one of them before following after the three.
Back at the chameleon, Ciri was waiting in the door leading to the balcony of the room where she would meet Lucifer, Geralt and Avallac'h once they would return.
She had her doubts about the journey Lucifer and Geralt had to undertake, and while she was worried for the two, she knew that nothing could touch her beloved and that he wouldn't let anything happen to Geralt under his watch.
But soon the door opened and a loudly shouting Lucifer stepped in, "Honey, I'm home!"
"Welcome home." she said with a small smile as the other three stepped in.
"Greetings, Zireael." Ge'els spoke, "So it's true, the Swallow has befriended the Fox."
"There's naught you can do to make us turn on one another." Ciri bluntly told him.
"What if Avallac'h had eaten the last Sweetroll?" Lucifer said walking up next to her.
"He wouldn't." Ciri said, glancing at him, "He knows I would send the Devil on him."
"My, my." Ge'els said with a mixture of wonder, amazement and amusement as the looks the two had given each other hadn't been lost on him, "It seems the Swallow has captured something infinitely precious and powerful beyond measure. She has the heart of the Star of Morning."
The tall elf then turned to Lucifer, a grin on his face but a pleasant one it was not. "Old Scratch, did you know Avallac'h blackmailed your beloved?"
"What." Lucifer said flatly.
"Nobody mentioned that?" Ge'els said surprised, "He tried to force her to warm our king's bed. Treated her body like a side of pork."
Immediately Lucifer's eyes began to glow red as his eye white became pitch black. What he might have done after that, they would never know as with an instant upon seeing the green eyes of Ciri, her smaller hand resting against his chest, he calmed down.
"Lucifer, it's alright." she assured him and her words did seemed to have an effect on him, something only two others could put a claim to.
He gave her a small nod before she turned back to look up at the viceroy, "I remember. But I also remember what you advised Eredin do with me once I was caught." she told him, "And I remember what the Red Riders did at Kaer Morhen."
"I didn't come here to argue." Ge'els said turning to the other elf, "The proof you promised, where is it?"
"You will see it." Avallac'h said, "In your dreams."
"Ah yes, I believe old Scratch should be capable of oneiromancer. Visions that cannot be fabricated. Do you wish to show me how Eredin murdered our king?" Ge'els said turning from Corinne to the others, "What then? Am I to incite the Aen Elle against Eredin? Call for revolution and proclaim Avallac'h our new king?"
"No. You will withdraw support from Eredin. Spare as many lives as you can." Lucifer told him simply, "Or do you believe any of them can survive an encounter with old Scratch?"
A moment of tense silence filled the room as the Aen Elle elf and the Devil had a stare down. Which ended in a victory for Lucifer as the viceroy conceded.
"Well then, we will all dream." Lucifer said raising his hand, "Just so there can be no misunderstandings, of course."
And with a snap of his fingers, the prove flashed in their heads. Auberon, the old king, sat slouched over his throne before chocking on the poison as the bottle dropped to the floor. Once the old king died, from behind him and out of the shadows stepped Eredin, picking up the bottle.
"The king is dead. Long live the king."
Confronted by this revelation, Ge'els struggled internally for some moments as he turned to the open door, looking at the city.
"Old Scratch..." Ge'els said, not daring to face them, "Are you still the punisher of evil?"
"It's what I've always been." Lucifer said, "And what I always will be."
"Sail to Skellige and find the Sunstone. With it, you will summon the Naglfar. Eredin will come too. And at the moment of your choosing, you can slay him." Ge'els said as he turned around, "Should he call for reinforcements, no Aen Elle will answer."
"Thank you." Avallac'h said, "A portal to Tir na Lia will open. I shall stabilize it, and you will return. Come with me."
Night had fallen as the three who remained stepped out into the balcony to discuss what had transpired in the room.
"Just as well, could've been bluffing." Geralt said, leaning against the railing, "Might've just said that so we'd let him go."
"My intuition tells me Ge'els was being truthful." Lucifer said, "I'm an master card player and I know when someone is bluffing. Besides even if he betrayed us, there would be no hiding from me."
"Avallac'h knows him better." Ciri said, "We'll hear him out when he returns."
Geralt looked to his side before saying, "Speak of the devil."
"What?" Lucifer said confused before noticing that Avallac'h was joining them, "Oh, you mean him."
"Geralt's worried." Ciri said immediately, her hands resting on her hips, "He believes we let Ge'els go too easily."
"Can never be too careful." Geralt said.
"While I'm not as worried as Geralt." Lucifer said gesturing to the witcher, "I do agree."
"Seems the three of us agree on something at last." Avallac'h said, "Yet I do believe Ge'els will keep his word, withhold support from Eredin. Seeing as he asked the Star of Morning to punish Eredin and he wouldn't send any Aen Elle into a garanteed suicide mission."
"So what is the plan?" Ciri said, "Care to share it with us?"
"Once we find the Sunstone, aided by your sorceresses and their magic, we shall draw Eredin's ship to a bay along the coast of Undvik." the elf explained, "We will wait in ambush. Lay a trap. When the King of the Hunt arrives, we will spring it and with the Devil on our side, we will slay him."
"Sounds like a simple enough plan." Lucifer said stretching his back, "It's time for Skellige 2: Electric Boogaloo."
That was the chapter, hope you enjoyed. Many thanks to everyone who read, reviews, favorites or follows this, you beauties.
So I was thinking of which ending to go with, and while I considered an ending with Ciri dying, which would be extremely bitter, it would definently result in Lucifer waging war on Heaven in a suicide attempt.
But I decided against it since it would contradict a certain scene in another story which takes place after this one.
Also, I hope I didn't write Geralt as to much of a dick to Lucifer, I try to portray him as a protective father who doesn't like his daughter's boyfriend.
And about the 'Old Scratch' name the Aen Elle elves have for Lucifer and their stories, I kind of imagine him being a sort of Santa Claus figured combined with Krampus. You know, Old Scratch brings good children presents while he punishes naughty ones?
Anyways, I hope you will join me next time. Bye for now and I hope you will join me next time.
