At this point, Earth's defenses were still maturing with significant gaps in coverage. An orb suddenly emerged from hyperspace and fired an intense continuous laser beam at Florida. The thin beam seared the ground as it hit and created a scar across the landscape as it moved south. The orb continued its attack with the laser beam moving directly south across central Florida, into the Gulf of Mexico, through Cuba, and stopping in Venezuela. The orb then collapsed in on itself and fell to the surface in pieces.

On the USS Nemo, Imra and the Insane officers discussed what they were going to do on shore leave. "I'm going to Disney World," Laurel said bubbly.

"I'm going to smoke Cuban cigars and get me some hot bitches," Dax smiled.

"The lightning storms in Venezuela are magnificent," Ol remarked.

"It's the Florida Keys for me," Eltro said.

Mon then entered the officer's conference room with his serious face on. "The Earth has been attacked by an unknown probe. It cut a 4,000 km swath through Florida to Venezuela. There may have been a million casualties. We have been recalled."

"Well...shit," the Insane officers said disappointed.

"A million?" Imra questioned.

"Most of them are drones but drones are people, too," Mon smirked.

"Why?" Eltro asked confused.

"You mean the attack? I didn't ask them," Mon mocked.

"It will take a while to get back," Dax informed Mon.

"Set a course for Earth, maximum warp," Mon ordered.

Mon invited Eltro into his quarters as they were underway. "Did they say what part of Florida?" he asked worriedly.

"No, I'm sorry," Mon replied.

"It's just I had made...reservations for this sweet vacation rental in the Florida Keys. What if all the tour guides are dead and the boats are destroyed?" Eltro asked morbidly.

"The number of casualties has been revised. It's up to three million, mostly drones still," Mon said vaguely.

"Why would someone want to ruin my vacation plans?" Eltro asked shocked and appalled.

"I don't know," Mon said softly.

Imra then entered Mon's quarters and noticed Eltro's distressed face. "I've talked with Titan High Command. They discovered the remains of the probe in Central Asia. They are analyzing the remains as we speak."

"What do they know?" Mon pressed.

"Very little. There was a pilot killed on impact," Imra replied.

"What species?" Eltro asked angrily.

"They don't know," Imra answered.

"Did they say anything about the Florida Keys?" Eltro pressed.

"No," Imra said flatly.

"Eltro had reservations for a vacation package in the Florida Keys," Mon explained.

"Are you for real?" Imra scolded.

"We have a Khund decloaking and firing at us," Dax radioed.

"Well...shit," Mon muttered.

Mon entered the bridge annoyed. "We just lost our forward laser canons," Ol reported.

"Fire torpedos," Mon said quickly.

Ol fired two torpedoes and got two hits on the Khund ship. The Khund ship fired on the Nemo's engines at the same time. "They say they want you, Sir. If you surrender, they'll let us live," Laurel reported.

"Tell them to go fuck themselves," Mon ordered.

Three Poseidon-class subs arrived on the scene and fired on the Khund vessel from different angles. The Khund ship quickly lost their shields and then their forward weapons forcing them to withdraw in disgrace.

The Nemo then surveyed the damage to Florida from space. The Insane officers looked crestfallen as their vacation plans were now definitively ruined.

On Earth, Kara, Mon, and Leto discussed how to deal with the attack. "The remains of the pilot and the material of the probe indicate the Harvesters," Leto revealed.

"We should trail the probe to their point of origin. Allow me to use Nemo to find these Harvesters and kick ass," Mon said to Kara. "Or, we risk a second attack. What do we have to lose? A single ship?"

"Barney already has the coordinates. At Warp 5, it will take three days," Kara said.

"They're inside the Delphic Expanse," Leto said ominously.

"What the fuck is that?" Mon asked ignorantly.

"A region of space nearly two thousand light-years across. Titan ships have entered it but few have returned," Leto said somberly.

"Sounds like the Bermuda Triangle," Kara said wide-eyed.

"There have been reports of fierce and dangerous species, queer anomalies, and even regions where the laws of physics don't apply. A year ago, a Khund ship emerged from the expanse. Every member of the crew was anatomically inverted and they were still alive," Leto warned.

"Don't threaten me with a good time," Mon smiled.

"You'd be more than foolish to risk this mission," Leto scolded.

"It's a risk I'm willing to take," Mon said eagerly.

"And what of your crew?" Leto asked.

"Fuck my crew," Mon scoffed.

"This is typical of Insane impulsiveness. You're putting your crew's lives at stake when you have no intelligence," Leto said condescendingly.

"Typical reaction from Titans," Mon rolled his eyes and then exited the room into a warehouse that contained the remains. He took out a scanner and started giving off the years in which they were built.

"Your point, Mon?" Kara asked impatiently.

"They've been working on this weapon ever since our arrival to this time. They're scared," Mon concluded. The three then walked over to a refrigerator chest. Mon opened it, revealing the body of the Harvester. The body was humanoid in shape but with lengthy reverse-jointed legs, small arms fixed in a forward position, and a wide head with a face in the middle. The alien was burned and busted up from the crash.

"Is this a Harvester?" Mon asked Leto.

"It is," Leto confirmed.

Mon got himself back on the USS Nemo and reported to sick bay where he found Brainiac 5 and a Titan doctor. "This is Dr. Farak. He's here to determine whether you're mentally unsound."

"Why waste both our time? I fully admit it," Mon said dismissively.

"It won't take long," Dr. Farak assured him and began to scan. "It must be so difficult to have so many question your sanity."

"Actually, it's super easy, barely an inconvenience," Mon corrected.

"Does it upset you?" Dr. Farak continued.

"I find it amusing," Mon said truthfully.

"I'm sensing some insecurity when you talk about this," Dr. Farak sensed.

"Why do you give a shit?" Mon wondered.

"Just curious," Dr. Farak replied.

"Why so curious?" Mon stared at him.

"I think this psych evaluation is at an end," Brainiac 5 said before the doctor could be killed.

"I'm merely doing my job," Dr. Farak said defensively.

Mon pointed his hand at the doctor and created a sphere of energy. "Here I am, pointing an energy orb at you inside a ship in space. Does that satisfy your report?"

"Indeed," Dr. Farak said spooked.

"Now, get the hell off my ship," Mon ordered.

"I will escort you to the airlock," Brainiac 5 offered and then removed Dr. Farak from the room.

Eltro and Ol were on the surface surveying the damage. In front of them was a deep canyon where a Florida island used to be. "So, sorry," Ol said sympathetically.

"My vacation home would have been here. The strip club over there," Eltro said mournfully.

"Are you certain your paid escort was here?" Ol asked.

"Someone would have heard from her if she hadn't," Eltro sighed.

Kara and Mon took a tour of the shipyard in an Atlas shuttle. Inside the shipyard was the construction of the USS Lena, a Prometheus light carrier. "The Lena, huh? This takes queer-baiting to a whole new level," Mon mused.

"I name the first carrier after her...because it will soon be the smallest, oldest, and most obsolete carrier in the fleet in no time. I'm saving the real carriers for other people," Kara explained. "It will be ready in fourteen months."

"Slow as fuck," Mon remarked.

"You better be back well before that time," Kara warned.

"Whatever. I'm going to take my time fucking around in the Delphic Expanse," Mon told her.

"Why? You've been told the dangers," Kara said annoyed.

"As long as I'm in the Delphic Expanse, I'm not dealing with you and the brats," Mon said obviously.

"Have you told your crew, yet?" Kara asked.

"I'm not telling them shit. They'll bail on the mission if they find out," Mon said.

"Or...or...or, you tell them and your cowards and weaklings get off and get replaced with eager volunteers," Kara corrected.

"I want to see the weaklings scream in terror when it gets tough," Mon smiled.

"I'm putting all the Vindicators on your ship to keep an eye on you," Kara informed him. "You got a problem with that?"

"You putting the living nuke on my ship? Outstanding," Mon said referring to Wildfire.

"They're the best we have. You're going to need all the muscle you can get," Kara said.

"When you put it like that...it sounds really gay," Mon frowned.

"Do you have any idea where to look in the Delphic Expanse? Space is fucking big," Kara said unimpressed.

"If it has a front door, it has a back door," Mon theorized.

On the Nemo, Imra had a chat with Brainiac 5. "Are you confident you should be on this mission?" she asked condescendingly.

"I am awaiting a shipment of two hundred snow beetles and no one in the galaxy has any idea what to do with them," Brainiac 5 replied.

"I feel that has nothing to do with my question," Imra frowned.

"What about you?" Brainiac 5 asked.

"My father and Titan High Command have made it clear they don't want me on this mission. I'm the Titan princess and the heir to the throne," Imra said.

"But what do you want?" Brainiac 5 asked.

"My reasoning tells me I should get the fuck off this ship at the soonest opportunity but I get a sexual thrill from the dangers we face and the Insane men I serve with," Imra admitted. "Their constant inappropriate thoughts about me are intoxicating."

"Go or stay, for me it was a simple question of cost/benefit analysis: One drone lost to all the knowledge I could acquire. There is also the sad realization that you'll need me more than ever on such a crucial mission. After all, I'm the only non-organic on this ship immune to disease and psychological terrors. For you, it's a more difficult decision," Brainiac 5 mused. "Do your loyalties lie with your father, your command, your planet or do they lie with the greater good of the galaxy?"

On Earth, Kara, Mon, Leto, and Imra had a meeting. "Is this supposed to frighten me, make me piss my pants, lose my shit?" Mon mocked.

"It's important that you know what you'll be facing," Leto said seriously. "A Titan scout ship was in the Delphic Expanse for two days when we got a distress call. This transmission arrived six hours later."

Mon eyed the view screen of Titans fighting each other, killing each other, bathing in the blood of their comrades, and shouting incoherently. "Can I get the entire video? That was fucking awesome."

"Last than an hour later, the ship was destroyed. No indication of a malfunction or an attack," Leto continued.

"So, they went crazy as fuck and initiated the self-destruct? Is that what you're telling me?" Mon asked unimpressed.

"I'm telling you to reconsider this mission," Leto said.

"Why do you give a fuck?" Mon asked incredulously.

"Because my daughter intends to go with you," Leto said obviously.

"Then, kick her off the mission. Problem solved," Mon said dismissively and then walked out.

Leto eyed Imra who hadn't said a word. "I need to speak with you."

Leto and Imra took a walk outside the HQ building. "You can come back to Earth in a year if you want. You haven't been back on Titan in some time. You may find your assignment at the Ministry of Information refreshing," Leto enticed.

"That sounds boring as fuck. Why can't I, at least, stay on Earth?" Imra asked.

"You have spent far too much time with humans and their alien overlords. It will do you well to return to Titan for a while," Leto said.

"It was critical that I be on the Nemo on its first couple of missions. We have seen things, encountered several new alien species, and greatly expanded Titan's sphere of influence. I've faced numerous dangers. Why not know?" Imra protested.

"You were there to provide telepathic cohesion between the Insane and humans, but your abilities will not help you in the Delphic Expanse," Leto said.

"How can you be so certain of that?" Imra doubted.

"You are to return to Titan. That's an order," Leto said finally.

"I believe that should be my decision," Imra resisted.

"This is not a matter of choice. You cannot defy your king. To do so would immediately exile you. You are my daughter, the heir to the throne, the Princess of Titan. You have a duty to your people to live long and ensure their prosperity," Leto lectured.

On the Nemo, Kara and Mon did an inspection. "Leto agreed to allow me to take Imra back to Titan," Mon said.

"It's not far out of your way," Kara allowed.

"You're both naive as fuck. I intend to impress her into my service," Mon said obviously.

"I could tell you that a lot of people are counting on you but you don't really give a shit, do you?" Kara assumed.

"No," Mon shook his head.

"Then, just know that I'm counting on you," Kara said and then gave him a formal handshake. "Good luck, Mon."

The USS Nemo then launched from the orbiting space dock and departed. On the night before entering the Delphic Expanse, Mon and Eltro decided the best course of action was to get shit-faced in the mess hall. "How are you holding up?" Eltro asked.

"Been sleeping like a baby," Mon replied unconcernedly.

"If normal people come back from the Delphic Expanse fucked up what chance do the Insane have?" Eltro asked anxiously.

"Perhaps if someone goes in fucked-up, they come back out normal," Mon theorized.

"Say it ain't so, captain," Eltro said horrified. "You going to get rid of Imra?"

"No," Mon said quickly.

"You want her, don't you?" Eltro figured.

"When she was first assigned to this ship, I wanted to strangle her but in a sexual context. Now, I just want to treat her nicely and give her proper respect for her rank and accomplishments," Mon admitted

"She does grow on you," Eltro allowed.

"I figured you'd be the first to send her out the airlock," Mon said.

"Not before scoring with her," Eltro clarified. "To Lar Gand, I wonder what he would thought if he knew his son would save the human race."

"He would have been shocked and appalled," Mon said seriously. "Forget the Galactic Federation, Earth, the crew. All that matters is our Insane pride."

"I can't wait to get in there, captain, and fuck things up," Eltro said eagerly.

"We will do just that, whatever it takes," Mon assured him.

Suddenly, the ship was hit from behind by the same Khund ship as before. Mon and Eltro stumbled their way to the bridge. "Let's test the new torpedoes," Mon said to Ol.

"What yield?" Ol asked.

"Maximum," Mon grinned.

The torpedo hit the Khund ship and completely destroyed it with nothing remaining. "Nice," Mon said pleased. "Imra, my quarters."

Mon had a chat with Imra while still drunk as fuck. "Dax says we're not headed to Titan," Imra said slightly alarmed.

"Have a seat," Mon offered. "It looks like you're going to have to put up with our cooking and our smell. I'm impressing you into my service."

"Fuck me," Imra realized.

"I'm making this easy for you. Instead of being court-martialed as a deserter and traitor to your people, you now have a convenient excuse," Mon reasoned.

"Titan High Command and my father will never trust you again," Imra pointed out.

"Well, if we all die, I won't give a shit about that. If we do survive, it means we kicked ass on the enemy and mapped the Delphic Expanse. Either way, it will be just fine," Mon argued.

"Unless, of course, you run out of the Delphic Expanse like a bitch," Imra said.

"That's your job, of course. You will use your telepathic abilities to keep the crew focused, to keep me focused. So far, there's nothing the galaxy has given me that has made me feel nervous. That might change. We could be literally flying into hell," Mon said seriously.

"Are you saying you need me?" Imra narrowed her eyes.

"I'm saying I want you," Mon said hungrily.

Mon brought Imra back onto the bridge. "It was unofficial up to now but it is now official that we are impressing Imra against her will into our Insane service," he announced.

The other Insane officers clapped for her. "Hate you all," Imra said to them.

"Continue our course to the Delphic Expanse," Mon ordered Dax.

Upon arriving at the Delphic Expanse border, a large purple nebula cloud was in their way. "Long-range sensors?" Mon asked Imra.

"Nothing beyond the perimeter," she reported.

"Take us in, Dax," Mon ordered.

"Launching Hermes probe," Eltro said as the probe departed from the Nemo. "I have a test signal from Earth."

"Keep them informed of our position," Mon said lazily.

Suddenly, three Khund ships, pissed off by the destruction of the previous ship, were on them. The Khund ships were missing constantly as their targeting computers could not lock on inside the dense nebula. Occasionally, the Nemo would get hit from behind.

"We're being hailed," Laurel said.

"Surrender or be destroyed," the lead Khund captain ordered.

"Fuck yourself," Mon replied.

"I'm detecting clear space ahead," Imra reported.

"Increase speed, Dax," Mon ordered.

Two of the Khund ships withdrew, scared of the expanse while one remained. The Nemo fired rear torpedoes without much effect. "Bow shielding has been enhanced from the last engagement," Ol reported.

"Dax, maneuver us so that we are behind them. I doubt their shielding to the stern is as good," Mon theorized.

As the Khund ship entered the expanse, it saw only complete darkness. The Nemo came around and fired from behind. The torpedoes hit the engines of the Khund ship and blasted it apart.

"Sure you want to tag along?" Mon teased Imra.

"Do I have a choice?" she rolled her eyes.

"No," Mon shook his head. He then turned to Dax. "Keep us steady, Dax. If we find out what we're looking for, we can fuck around."
