Chapter 10: All the World is Only You and Me (Maria POV)

(One Month Later)
The sound of Maria's alarm clock went off and dread filled her. It was 7am, which meant she only slept for four hours. As tired as she was, the memories of the night before made up for it. Tony and she spent the evening on the roof of Doc's watching the stars and kissing; it had become their favorite activity. Sneaking around wasn't easy for either of them, especially with both working, but they always managed to find time together. With each date they had, Maria found herself longing for more time and more visits, and especially more kisses. So long as they were careful, no one would ever find out.
As Maria stumbled towards the coffee and grabbed two pieces of toast, Anita came in modeling her new red dress.
"You look like you were up all night. Did you sleep any?", Anita asked.
"Yes. Mostly.", Maria replied trying to hide her blush.
"Are you sure? I could run to Doc's and see if Valentina has anything."
"No!... I mean, yes. That would be a good idea. I'll go myself before work.", Maria said.
"Ok, I have to get ready for work. I can't wait to get use of this dress. Your brother won't know what hit him.", said Anita dancing out of the room. Maria finished her breakfast and began cleaning the house. She hoped it would make her day go by quicker before going to see Tony at Doc's. She couldn't wipe the smile from her face anytime he was on her mind, which was all the time.
When 5 o'clock came, Maria was dressed and already heading in the direction for work like always. Maria walked into Doc's and immediately began searching for Tony. He must be in the back since he was nowhere in sight.
"Can I help you", a voice startled her.
Maria jumped at the voice. She turned and saw Valentina. "Perdóname, Valentina. Me asustaste."
"Lo siento, I was coming from the back. Can I help you, Miss…?"
Suddenly, Tony came from the back and stopped short. He came up beside Valentina and said, "Val, I can help her. You can finish going over the books."
Valentina gave him a strange look then looked between her and Tony. A hidden smile began on Valentina's lips as she said, "Vey well… help this young lady with what she needs. I'll be right over here.", then walked over to the corner while looking over her book.
Tony and Maria both blush at the thought of being watched over. Tony spoke up first, "How can I be of assistant, ma'am?"
Maria smiled and said, "Do you have anything to help with sleep? I've been very tired lately. I've haven't slept a wink." She secretly winked at Tony and his grin grew a mile wide.
"Right this way.", he directed her to the counter. He grabbed a bottle of something and bagged it up for her.
"Before you leave, would you be interested in anything from our candy display? Wait, let me guess… a peppermint fan?", he winked back at her.
As her blush grew, Maria replied, "Yes. And I would love some."
He added another bag of peppermints and whispered quiet enough for no one to hear, "Meet me here tonight after work."
"I'll be here."
"See you tonight."
He spoke up at a normal tone and said, "That all, ma'am? That'll be $2.55."
Maria handed him the money and replied, "Good day, sir."
As she walked out the door, she glanced back at Tony and blew him a subtle kiss, making sure Valentina didn't see. Maria went to work with thoughts of Tony filling her mind, and a smile permanently on her face.
