After they had decided that Mammon would be Stella's caretaker, Lucifer got down to brass tacks, her tasks to be done at the Devildom. He explained how she had to acquire the power to resist demons, because, to a demon, a nice soul is equivalent to a shiny jewel. Mammon's eyes seemed to glitter at the word of an expensive item, which made Stella almost want to laugh… Almost. Apparently, the demons at RAD also had tasks assigned to them just like her. Lucifer explained how the brothers would help her with her tasks since she didn't have magic like the other human exchange student, which made her really want to meet them. Basically, she would have to attend school and do homework assignments while not getting eaten by devils. Then at the end, she would write her report on how she liked her stay at the Devildom, which didn't sound too bad.
Mammon then stated, "I wanna make one thing clear right now: Don't blame me if someone gets eaten, 'cause it ain't my fault." Stella sighed then tried to give her best smile, "Well we might as well make it a year to remember!" Mammon looked at her confused, "You… sure are a positive one." She looked down embarrassed, "Sorry, I'm just looking forward to being here…" Mammon paused then shrugged, "Welp, I won't stop ya from havin' some fun."
Diavolo then spoke, "Stella, from now on you will be living in the House of Lamentation. You'll be staying there with Lucifer and his 6 younger brothers. Humans, angels, demons, I imagine a universe where each accepts the other. Where we are brought together as friends. This is my dream, and I'm asking you to be the foundation for it." Stella nodded, "I will do my best, Lord Diavolo." he smiled and said, "1 year, that's all I ask of you Stella… Good luck." With that, Mammon left to head to the House of Lamentation, leaving a nervous Stella to follow him.
While heading to the House of Lamentation, Mammon was muttering up a storm, "I don't believe this. Of all the rotten luck… Why should I have to look after some human? It's insulting, that's what it is!" Stella was silent and let him vent to himself. She felt really bad about having to be a burden on him, but she felt like the best way for him to like her was to let him be upset for now, "That rotten b******... Does he really think he can scare me into doin' whatever he wants?" He then turned to Stella, startling her a bit, "Just so we're clear… it's not like I can't say no to Lucifer, okay? I only agreed to babysit you because, um… Well you know, because….uh…" Stella tried to hide her smile, 'I guess Lucifer has Mammon under his thumb, and Mammon's too embarrassed to say so…'
Mammon waved his hand, "Anyway, it doesn't matter! Just don't go thinking that I'm scared of Lucifer or anything! Because I'm not!"
Stella quickly nodded, "Of course! I know that you're not…" Honestly, she couldn't see how anyone wouldn't be afraid of Lucifer. He seemed very powerful and not someone that likes to be trifled with. Mammon seemed to relax a bit, "...Oh. Okay then, as long as we've got that straight." Stella breathed a sigh of relief, 'Thank goodness for my acting skills, otherwise, I'd have been human toast…' Mammon turned back to the house, "Let's move on..." They arrived at a huge mansion that looked like it was taken straight out of the Victorian ages, it gave her shivers just looking at it. She took a deep breath in as she followed Mammon inside.
After she adjusted to the light, she discovered that the lobby was huge! Lots of statues, portraits of people she assumed were important, and 2 staircases leading to a 2nd floor. Mammon smiled at seeing her amazement, "This is the HOuse of Lamentation. It's one of the dorms here at RAD," Stella looked at him in bewilderment, "This is a dorm?" Mammon chuckled, "Well, it's not JUST one of the dorms. It's the dorm reserved for student council members. Lucifer, Asmo, and the others take every chance they can get to insult me. Callin' me scum, sayin' that I'm a money-grubber and stuff…" Stella nodded sympathetically, 'I remember that some classmates treated others like that to… Really pissed me off.'
Mammon continued, with fresh vigor, "but I'm an officer on the student council, same as them. The elite of the elite, the top of the RAD social pyramid. In other words, I'm a big shot. A REAL big shot. Like, even regular big shots are impressed by what a big shot I am." Stella giggled at his proud smile, 'He sure seems proud of it…' she thought to herself. Then Mammon went serious, "So don't you go thinking that I"m just some ordinary demon. I'm nothing like those other peons walking the halls here." Stella nodded her head in understanding, Mammon continued as if he was educating a child, "By the way, Diavolo is even MORE of a big shot. He's so important that he's got his own castle. That's why he doesn't live here with us." Stella nodded, "That makes sense," she muttered quietly
Mammon continued boastfully, "Anyway, the long and short of it is that us 7 brothers all live here together. Now, it's time I show you to your room…" They walked up the stairs and headed down a hallway. They passed by a billboard which Stella took a bit to look at, "Opening for a part-time position?" Mammon quickly noticed she stopped following him and snapped, "Hey, don't just stand there with your jaw open. Hurry up, or I"m gonna leave ya behind." Stella quickly ran to catch up with him, "Sorry, Mammon!" He shook his head and sighed, "You're gonna need all the help you can get…" Stella laughed embarrassed, then Mammon got an idea, "I'm gonna give you a piece of advice, so listen up."
Stella nodded and did her best to pay attention, Mammon gave her a smirk and continued, "If you wanna survive even a day here in the Devildom, you'd better listen REAL close to what I'm about to say. If it ever looks like a demon is about to attack you… run away. Either that, or die." Stella nodded, then a voice behind her angrily hissed, "How about this? I vote for YOU to die, Mammon." Stella turned around startled while Mammon exclaimed, "D'ah..! Levi…" The man that Mammon called Levi had a messy head of indigo-colored hair and sunset-like eyes, which were filled with the fire of rage.
"Uh, l-listen up, human! This here is Leviathan, the Avatar of Envy. He's the 3rd oldest of us brothers. Since his name's sorta hard to say, you can just call him Levi! Okay then let's move on." He went grab Stella's arm to bolt when Levi went past her and confronted Mammon, "Mammon, give me back my money. Then go crawl in a hole and die." Mammon chuckled nervously, "Come on, I told you I'd get it to you! I just need a little more time. And you still want me to die even after I give it back? That's real harsh, Levi!" Levi was losing his patience, "You need a little more time? How much more?" Mammon started to back away slowly, "A little more, okay?! A little more means a little more!" Levi responded angrily, "You've been telling me that for the last 200 years, Mammon."
Mammon looked offended, "Hey, no! It hasn't been 200 years! It's been 260! Get it right, Levi!" Stella covered her face trying not to laugh while Levi and Mammon continued fighting, 'You're not supposed to correct people when the actual time Mammon…' She started paying attention when Levi mentioned something about a Blu-ray box set of an anime sounding series. She wished she had paid attention, anime from a different culture would definitely be interesting. Mammon angrily replied that he didn't have the money to pay Levi, which made the whole situation kinda worse. But since she felt kinda indebted to Mammon, she decided to step in, "I'm sure Mammon will pay you when he has the money, Mr. Levi…"
Levi, finally noticing her presence, turned around surprised, "What's the deal with this human you've got here with you? Are they your newest sponsor or something?" Before Stella could explain herself, Mammon cut in, "Wha… no! I'd need someone rich enough to support me. Don't be crazy." That's when he noticed that Stella's room, which had been filled with some of her items from home, was similar to the things that Levi liked to hoard. He quickly hatched a plan that would make anyone jealous. Mammon smirked as he gestured to her room and said, "Though now that I think about it… Levi, I'm pretty sure this one likes to collect the same stuff that you do. I bet you'd kill to have some of the stuff in Stella's collection. You know what I'm talking about those doll things you always buy. What do you call 'em again?" Levi and Stella answered simultaneously, "Figurines." They looked at each other surprised, while Mammon enthusiastically agreed, "Yeah those!" then he left when he could tell that Levi wasn't paying attention to him anymore.
Levi looked at Stella interested, "So you also collect figurines?" Stella nodded embarrassed, "In my spare time yeah. My first ones were from Girls Only and Diamond Dust, but I've recently gotten into Battle Princess Brigade…" She muttered quietly. Levi exclaimed excitedly, "OH, NO WAY! NO WAAAAY…! You're SO lucky! Ugh, the human world sounds AMAZING! I'm sooooo jealous!" Stella blushed, "I mean it's not that big of a deal-" then she noticed Mammon was gone, and so did Levi, "Hold on a second! You've got to be kidding me…! That a** Mammon ran off!" Stella looked slightly confused, then Levi explained, "Mammon used you as a distraction to get away from me… Or maybe I should say he used you as a sacrifice."
Stella made a vow that when she saw Mammon again, demon or no, she was gonna throw a pillow at him the next time she saw him. Levi shook his head, "I'll admit that Mammon is one of the scummiest scumbags you'll ever meet. A total lowlife." he turned to Stella chastisingly, "But still, that was a pretty dumb of you letting him use you like that." Stella hung her head ashamed, Levi continued ranting, "This is EXACTLY why humans are-" he suddenly stopped and looked at Stella with a cunning smile, "Wait a second. Humans… yes, that's it… Suddenly, I've got an idea. Listen, are you free right now?" Stella was about to answer when Levi cut her off in a hurry, "Of course you are. You've gotta be, right? You know what? Never mind. Either way," he grabbed her arm, "You're coming with me." Stella had no choice but to get lead away by Levi to his room and hope for the best.
