After nearly half a decade of taking life, hers was finally to be claimed.

She could have accepted her role as a woman, lived a peaceful life with the Assassins in Normandy, while the men handled the turbulence and violence of life. Instead she had thrust herself into the frontlines of war.

The trial had been humiliating and heart-breaking. She saw the grip the Illuminati had on the minds of Paris. The letter she had intended for her father had been intercepted and read aloud before them. The man she had hoped to defend her during the trial, Gustave le Doulcet, had not shown up.

Then there was Arno. She had sent him no letter, thought it better he die not knowing of her love, incase he shared it and fully comprehended his loss.

Walking through the streets of Paris, trailed by two soldiers while her hands were bound, she could see nothing but evil. The city she once thought she fought for had now become her enemy. Onlookers jeered as she was marched towards her place of execution: the Hotel De Ville.

What lied on the other side? An endless black void? A judgmental God?

Ahead was the scaffold, upon which sat the guillotine, the modern face of death. She would share the fate of the king. The officer atop the scaffold looked at her with a hard, steely gaze. Two soldiers with muskets on their backs were by his side. Two more were visible guarding her side of the crowd, although on the relatively narrow stretch of street she was currently walking through, she could not even begin to see the full extent of those gathered.

Suddenly two objects dropped fast from the sky and exploded into a wall of smoke ahead! There were two thuds as the guards were pounced from above! She quickly looked to her side! Cloaked figures had come to her rescue!

Behind the wall of smoke, several guns thundered, but all the shots missed.

"Hold still," said a voice to her left. Arno! His blade cut rope as the other man fired a shot towards the scaffold. She was free!

"Come on!" She turned and joined her saviors, feet furiously pounding the ground in flight.
