Grandma was the chosen one but she put off fulfilling the prophecy to start a family and have a fulfilling career. Now that she's retired, she has the time and is off to fulfil the prophecy and wants you, her favourite grandchild, to come with her for company.
Sally sighed. She was stood on her balcony, arms folded across her chest as she stared across the moon-lit water. The full moon cast such a bright light tonight, and in the distance she heard her grandson's howl as he paid his own respects to Luna.
Her family was whole. Her son was back to full fitness, both iR and TI were going better than ever. Gordon and Penny was a surprise to no-one. There was a regret building.
Her name was being called across the water, and Sally unfolded her arms, holding her hands out in front of herself. They were beginning to glow. And she sighed.
It was time.
She'd put it off for almost 50 years, but now Luna would wait no more. Sally couldn't grumble, she'd been given first Grant, then Jeff and lastly her five amazing grandsons, so the hope for great-grandchildren wasn't going to change anything.
Virgil's howling sounded much closer, and as she watched the huge black wolf ambled into sight beneath her. He howled again, a howl full of desolation, and once more Sally sighed.
It was time, and somehow Virgil knew it.
The light consumed her. She rolled her shoulders and released her four wings. Sally hesitated, looking back at her closed door and the family she was about to leave behind. Virgil whined, and she moved, leaping from the balcony to join her grandson below.
She ran a hand through his fur and his tail thumped as he nuzzled her leg. Sally laughed, kneeling down to hug him tightly.
'I have to go, Virgil. I have an obligation to fulfil that cannot wait any longer.' He whined again.
The rush of wings sounded behind her, and she knew without needing to turn that Scott had appeared. The shrill call of an eagle confirmed it, and then warm arms were encircling her.
'I always knew you were special, Grandma.' Scott's voice was quiet and raw with emotion, and as he spoke his arms tightened. 'I just didn't know how special.'
Sally patted his hand, and when Scott released her, she turned and patted his cheek.
'It is time, Scott. I have a promise to fulfil.'
'And Virgil?'
She looked at the wolf before her. The wolf smiled and winked at her before turning to Scott, who sunk down onto his knees and buried his face into his brother's ruff. Virgil whined.
Eventually, Scott pulled away. If he was suspiciously bright-eyed, well, Sally wasn't going to say anything.
'You look after Grandma, you hear, Virgil?' The tail thumped again, and Scott found himself with a wolf in his lap and a very wet face. He laughed, pushing his brother off him and he stood up, turning to Sally.
She pulled him into a tight hug.
'They will be safe with you watching over them. I'll look after your brother.'
'He always was your favourite.'
Sally snorted but didn't deny the light-hearted accusation. Instead, she finished transforming into a giant moth and settled on Vigil's back. Flexing her wings while Virgil ran for the cliff face, she just about heard Scott's whispered farewell.
'Fly safe.'
