Alan's footsteps are loud on the floor, but Alan doesn't slam the door. Scott stands there for a long time before finally bending to pick up Alan's discarded uniform.

He sets it safely on the counter and opens the refrigerator door. There was half an apple pie waiting there.

Scott swallowed against the bile in his throat and gently closed the door.

He stood there for all of thirty seconds before turning and making his way up to Alan's door. It was open, and Scott watched from there as his brother packed a bag without looking up or acknowledging him at all.

Finally Alan was done, and he turned to Scott with a small bag in one hand and an expectant look on his face. Scott swallowed.

'If you want, I'd like to fly you. Anywhere you want to go.'

Alan didn't say anything for a moment, but then he nodded and moved past him heading towards the hangars. Scott paused before following.

There was still silence as they boarded Scott's jet.

'Take me to New York please.'

'Ok.'

Scott put together a flight plan and sent it off in record time and they took off.

There was silence as they flew.

There was silence as they landed.

There was silence as they exited.

A car was waiting at the hangar entrance and they both climbed in. Scott drove them off the airfield and stopped, engine running.

They sat there for what felt like forever, although it was less than a minute, neither knowing what to do. Suddenly Alan reached over and pulled his brother into a tight hug, and just as quickly let him go.

'Thank you,' he whispered, climbing out and closing the door. He walked away, not looking back at the figure of his brother sat in the driver's seat. Scott sat there, frozen, staring after his baby brother.

Ignoring the pain in his heart and the tears running down his face.
