They all stood there is a rough approximation of a circle, the silence heavy with shock at the words.

Time moved in slow motion as they all watched Scott turn on his heel and leave without a word.

It was Gordon who reacted first.

'What the hell, Al?'

'What?'

'Why did you say that?'

'Say what? We were all thinking it!'

'No, no we were not. I was definitely not thinking that I wished my oldest brother was dead. Were you guys?'

'No, I wasn't thinking anything remotely like that.'

'Me neither.'

'I … I didn't mean it. Not like that. I…shit.'

Everyone heard the jet leaving.

'What – how can I fix this?'

'I don't know, Alan. I don't know.'
